It's been 8 weeks since I stated at Nu Fitness, but it's long enough to give Nick, his trainers and…read morethe facility a positive review. I spent a few days looking for a personal trainer close to work. After some searches on the Internet and Yelp reviews, I started reading reviews about Nu Fitness and Nick. After some positive reviews, I filled out the form and emailed him. I noted my fitness journey to this point in life and briefly explained what I wanted to accomplish going forward. I found myself in a terrible routine, work 12 hours, then heading to the local breweries for a few beers and dinner. Needless to say this didn't bode well for my wellbeing. Looking back over the years, I had gained control of health in my mid-30s, where I lost 40+ pound, gained strength and started running. Running led me to a period in my life that saw me conquer a few 50-mile races. An achievement I never thought I would attempt, hell I never thought I would run 5 miles. Life changed. Priorities changed and slowly I saw everything I had worked hard for slowly slip away. Now age 55, life wasn't getting any easier. I knew I was not very active. I also knew that my daily routine was not one for success. I decided I needed to help make a change in my life, but more importantly to make that change permanent. Previously I joined 24 Hour Fitness (never again) but found too many excuses NOT to go. Sound familiar? Searching Yelp for personal trainers, I ran down a local list in the Oakland/Alameda area. Reading profiles and reviews, checking website, I ran across a trainer, Nick Baltazar. It felt right. I emailed Nick with my story and filled out the form on the Nu Fitness website. It wasn't even a day and I had a response from Nick and we were talking about my fitness journey, where I had been and what I wanted to achieve. He was willing to work with my schedule to get three days of training. After a day of communication with Nick, he connected me with Wyatt. I met Wyatt at Nu Fitness, located at 2345 Broadway, parking in The Hive. Yes, they have easy parking and validation while you are at your session. This makes getting in and out quick and easy. I was highly impressed with the facility, the way Nick had spoke about it, I knew I would be. The work out areas were clean and profession, a small reception area, all Rogue power racks and weights, with room for everyone to work on their fitness goals. Wyatt Berreman, my personal trainer worked with me, after provided basic information from Nick on what I wanted to accomplish. He created a plan specifically for me, tracking my journey, weights and reps for each session. It's been just about 2 months, but its been reestablishing a workout routine. I have a sense of accomplishment, even through I don't see it in the mirror...yet. It will happen. Wyatt has been a wealth of knowledge and has helped create a plan for me to gain strength, balance and flexibility. But also work within my limitations due to previous surgeries on my knee and shoulder. I am very impressed with Nu Fitness, Nick, Wyatt and what they have to offer in the way of personal training. I would highly recommend giving Nick a chance to show you want they can do to help create a fitness plan for your to achieve your goals.

She always starts our sessions asking me how I'm feeling and how my body is feeling and, if needed, will adjust my workout to accommodate. Alison offers as much or as little nutritional support as I want or need. There have been periods where I've sent her what I ate each day so she could help me balance my carbs, fats and proteins. I no longer do this, but we still discuss healthy eating habits, smoothie recipes and how to eat in a balanced way very often, if not every time I train with her. She's incredibly supportive and knowledgeable without being pushy, which is awesome. The logistical flexibility Alison offers is a game changer for my hectic work schedule. I can see Alison at the gym or virtually using Zoom. At first, I was VERY hesitant to try a virtual workout. It just seemed like something that wouldn't translate well to virtual (from in person). One week, my work schedule was such that I had to either do my session virtually or cancel it, so I gave it a shot! It was great - almost exactly like being in person. I now workout virtually with Alison 100% of the time. I am not someone who loves working out, but my workouts with Alison are enjoyable and sometimes even fun, as Alison is super funny and great to talk to. Her company makes the workouts go by quickly, which is an added bonus for those of us who don't love working out. Before I found Alison, I had tried a couple different personal trainers. They were either inflexible (I got the impression they had a cookie cutter workout they used for every client, regardless of the needs), annoying or outrageously priced. Alison is amazing at what she does, and I'd recommend her to anyone, regardless of their workout needs!

I knew that the only way to keep working on my feet was to get stronger -- but I had no idea where to start. Being an extreme introvert with limited executive function, just showing up to a gym or public fitness classes on my own volition didn't feel like an option. Thankfully my partner and I were introduced to Alison. With Alison's guidance we've been getting stronger and more confident in our work and daily activities. Consistent weekly appointments help me stay on track with my goals and give me a sense of accountability that I just can't impose on myself. She makes sure we never do the same workout twice which keeps things interesting and never boring. I've never felt stronger or more comfortable in my body. Over those three years, I've become so much more confident--not only in the gym, but in myself and what my body is capable of. She really listens to your goals and knows exactly how much to push you while still meeting you where you are. I came to her with a previous back injury and was honestly so scared of re-injuring myself. She was incredibly attentive and thoughtful about my progression, tailoring my workouts so I could gradually build strength and confidence without feeling like I was being pushed too quickly. She also understands the struggle of being a petite girlie and how much harder it can be to see noticeable changes in your body! She always helped me keep things in perspective, focus on my progress, and appreciate how much stronger I was becoming even when the physical changes felt slow. She's also very affordable, especially considering the level of personalized programming and support she provides. I always felt like my workouts were genuinely tailored to me rather than being given a generic program. One of my favorite parts was the community she's built. All of her clients are genuinely wonderful people, and it made training with her that much more enjoyable. I only stopped training with her because I moved away. Otherwise, I truly would have kept her as my personal trainer for life.
