LOVE the Baltimore Tattoo Museum. Had to stop by while at conference to check it out. The museum is pretty much on the first floor and so they say, they'll be doing some renovations in the upcoming month. It's a really cool free museum with great history. The folks in there are really nice as well. To take a souvenir I decided to get a tattoo as well. Drew was my guy and he did such a great job. Mary was frickin delightful!! She did FIVE piercings on me and hardly felt even a pinch on every single one! I would definitely go back to her for more. She switched out one of my piercings for me too. It's a tender conch piercing that hasn't quite healed after 3 years and was explaining the latch when I looked and it was already in her hand. I didn't even feel a thing. Literally, she's awesome. If you want piercings, go ask for Mary. Overall the place was really cool, didn't get to check it out too much because I have newly semi disabled legs and walking is only partially my friend now. But it seemed like there was a ton to look at, so go check it out. All the staff we talked to were really nice, even when they were declining a specific type of piercing my boyfriend has just because they hadn't really done many (or any maybe, can't remember) and they suggested someone with a bit more experience. So that was really nice and professional of them. Better to say the limits out loud than try something you're not 100% on. But I def recommend the place. After living in Baltimore for five years, I was nearby with a friend and finally decided it was time to check out the museum, which one drives by on the way to Fells Point or Canton. We walked around the "museum," which consisted of wallpapered drawings of flash/custom/signature designs from artists over the past 100 years (the most recently dated stuff maybe mentioned the early 2000s) in the hallway/waiting area of an active tattoo shop. Small biographies of significant artists were nestled in, which contained some funny anecdotes of this fascinating profession. Like other reviews mention, there was no info about present-day art styles, and I didn't see anything about female and/or non-white artists. "No photos allowed" signs were posted throughout the building. It was an interesting collection of tattoo history but not a professional museum by any means. After 20 minutes of looking at the displays and flipping through flash binders, I talked with the storefront manager John about a silly tattoo idea (melon on my melon = watermelon tattoo behind my ear), and he was friendly and laughed at my idea, which was all I needed to convince me to go through with it. After that, he tapped in his coworker Ian, who listened to my explanation and talked me about the realistics, suggesting we simplify the design so I could keep it small yet discernible over time. Ian drew a melon up, which certainly seemed much plainer than what I was envisioning, but I trusted his judgment that "if it was any smaller or more detailed, it would blow out like if it was on knuckles." He then set up while I filled out paperwork and waited in the museum, then he called me in and got started with shaving my hairline and laying the stencil down. Ian warned me the placement might not hurt that bad, but it would be loud, then got to work. From start to end, the actual tattoo time was 25 minutes. For pricing, it was a minimum $100 for arms and legs, $150 for face/neck/hands/feet, and $120 for everything else (I believe) - mine ended up $180 plus tip. They took card, but something I found weird was that I paid and tipped before the tattoo session started. Ian didn't talk to me much, only asking to reposition, but he was thorough and clear about healing directions. He was professional in demeanor; when I checked out the design in the mirror, I was pleasantly surprised to see the added shading detail that made the design much cleaner than the original, demonstrating a great attention to detail. Great walk-in tattoo experience when I wasn't expecting to even get a tattoo when I walked in! (PS: Funniest part was the "F*** Yelp!" sign at the register...) read more

If you're looking for a place to get a spontaneous tattoo... this might not be the place. My friend and I were in town for a concert and wanted to get something cute to remember the trip by. I forget the woman's name that did my tattoo but she was unprofessional and I am not very pleased with the tattoo I got. She didn't greet me or thank me for coming in or for the tip. Got mad bc I didn't pay prior to the tattoo (nobody told me that I had to and never paid before a tattoo before). I'm writing this out of frustration, which I try not to do, but this place really pissed me off!! I arrived at the shop at about 1:45pm or so with a friend. We work on a tour crew for a band so we had a finite amount of time in town. We were greeted by a not so friendly receptionist who basically had a "you buying or leaving" attitude..... She explained that one artist was working on a sleeve but her other artist was handling walk ins and would be done in about an hour. We filled out our paperwork and told her we would be back in an hour. We had skipped lunch to walk the 2/3 mile to get there and we were hungry. She explained that if we left, we would lose our place in line.... So we didn't leave One hour turned into 2, and then 3. By 5pm the walk In artist was drawing up my companions outline. Meanwhile, a second artist (I assume the guy that was doing the sleeve) was available, but not doing anything. Then, a 3rd artist showed up..... while I continued to sit and wait for the walk in artist, I guess Then guy 3 took on a pair that walked in together (a little frustrating, but I'm a patient guy) Round about 6:15 or so, my friend was done and it was my turn. I explained to the guy what I wanted, and he tried to talk me in to shrinking it down and simplifying it. When I refused, they told me that they wouldn't have time and I was out of luck after sitting there for 5+ hours and getting passed up and basically ignored by 2 other artist while that unfriendly receptionist knew DAMN WELL she told me I couldn't leave to eat or walk to a store or I could be passed up. I also work for one of the big wrestling tours, and when we're in town on our upcoming tour stop we damn sure won't be spending any of our money at this place, and neither should you! read more

This review is of the museum. I did not get a tattoo while here. The museum is basic, focusing on a few famous tattoo artists (who I'd never heard of but I wouldn't expect to, outside of today's "celebrity" artists) and the evolution of tattoos, tattoo machines, etc. Lots of work on the walls, floor to ceiling. Most of it was older stuff, no display of Japanese vs B&W vs tribal vs portraiture, etc.. That would have been cool. But for the small place that it is, I felt they did a decent job. read more

I finally had the pleasure of coming here for a tattoo. I enjoyed looking at all the memorabilia on the walls and reading about the history of different tattoo artists. My hubby and I got both of our tattoos with no problem. They were professional, clean, respectful and truly wanted to make sure we were happy with our art. I will say that I called 3 tattoo establishments this day and they were the only one to call me back and communicate with me in a professional manner. 5 stars all around! read more

I had my rook pierced at a place in south Florida that my ear really did not take to, honestly one of the most painful piercings I've ever had. Lo and behold not only did it never heal but my ear had some kind of reaction. Came in here, not only were they super knowledgeable but also really gentle when removing the bad piercing from my ear which was extremely swollen. Given this, you'd think the removal would have hurt worse, and aside from feeling it being moved a bit, did not have any pain surprisingly. Will absolutely come back here if I choose to have something else done. Came highly recommended from a friend who had her Monroe pierced and from what she said is healing beautifully. If you need a tattoo this is the place to go! I got a few done in the past by Chris Keaton who happens to be the owner of Baltimore Tattoo Museum and I definitely plan on going back! The whole staff is super friendly and when it comes to COVID-19, they are sure to make everyone safe. They make sure everyone wears masks and uses sanitizer upon entry. You have to call the minute you get there to let someone let you in. Once inside, they take your temperature and ask you some COVID questions and have you fill out some paperwork and then it is time spent with your artist. The experience is the best and you feel comfortable in knowing that they want you to feel safe as well. I am definitely going back soon to finish some more work! read more

We walked in for a tattoo for our two friends and the artist was being such an asshole about us having the size and style ready. It was an spontaneous thing and being rushed like that felt very unprofessional. The ladies at the front desk were so nice trying to get down our idea as much as they could but the artist kept making comments that we could all hear. If you accept walk ins, you should accept that spontaneous tattoo are a part of that. read more

Went in to get my tongue pierced and everything went very well - everyone was friendly and willing to answer my questions though the answers I was given seemed to contradict everything I had read prior to going in. Putting that on my possibly not being as informed as I originally thought my tongue got pierced and the jewelry was installed but seemed too large for my mouth though I had been under the impression this was normal to accommodate swelling. Two weeks later I went to another piercer to down-size my jewelry (Tattoo Museum told me 8-12 weeks whereas everywhere else said 2-3 before downsizing) and I was informed I'd been given an industrial bar instead of an actual tongue ring which is why it was entirely too large for my mouth and causing issues with my gums. Would not go back and will not be recommending. read more

I went in about 3-4 months ago to get a piercing on my body. I walked in, everything was fine - signed the paper, paid and then went into the room. The person who did my piercing said nothing to me as I sat down. They didn't ask me which jewelry I wanted or how I wanted it. I later learned that this type of piercing needed to be marked on your body with a marker BEFORE you sit/lay down. They didnt mark me up or anything. They seemed annoyed if I asked any questions (maybe they had a bad day?). Afterwards they said you're all done and walked out. They didn't ask if I liked it or anything. And I didn't like it. But I rolled with it because I thought that's how the piercing is going to look on my body type. It started to depress me after awhile and I started to hate it enough to want to get it removed. I just so happened to stop by a different piercing store a month or so later to change my jewelry. I asked the piercer there if the piercing I got done at the Tattoo Museum was done correctly. They said they would have done it differently and then marked it to show me where the holes are supposed to be. On the spot, I asked this piercer if they could repierce it for me. They had me stand up. Marked me up. Asked me to look in the mirror and see how I felt about the marks. Showed me different jewelry options, etc. And omg after the new piercing I was in love!!! This person did it right versus the piercer at Baltimore Tattoo Muesum who butchered my piercing and caused to be very insecure with it. Maybe Tattoo Muesum is good for tattoos but never going again for any piercings. read more

This is the only tattoo shop in Baltimore that I would give 5 stars to. A lot of the artists here do really good work. Chris Keaton in particular does amazing work. He did some lettering on my arm a while back, and I get compliments on it from random strangers all the time. 3+ years later and the lettering hasn't started to fade or get blotchy at all (a common problem with fine-line lettering work). If I'm ever back in the land of pleasant living and am looking to get some work done, this is where I would go. No ifs, ands or buts about it. read more

I haven't been here in a long while, but I'll still record my experience. Baltimore Tattoo Museum is very professional, clean, and caring about your body getting art assembled. They ensure that everything is safe and sanitary. Before you have any procedures done, such as tattoos or piercings, they give you a checklist and paper to sign. It asks you routine questions to ensure that you may not have infected blood or whatever they are concerned about. As well, when people stroll in looking like high schoolers, they card you to ensure you are over 18 and do not need parental consent, if needed you will need an adult with you. I received two piercings here a couple years back, eyebrow and tongue ring. Long gone, now. But they were very kind and reassuring that I was going to experience a pinch of pain, but that I would be okay. The staff informs the customer of the correct at home cleaning procedures and as long as you follow their instructions you'll be on the road to success with a scarless, uninfected piece of art. Normally, the shop has about 2 or 3 tattoo artists on duty but sometimes you may have to schedule an appointment or try to drop by when they place is empty. The prices are pricey but when you want great quality tattoos you have to pay the price! I was a little turned off when I wanted a rose on my hand and the artist told me that I couldn't get the small size I wanted. Instead he stated it may cover my whole hand, so, I opted out. I was upset like a spoiled brat because I couldn't get what I wanted. BUT I was satisfied that the artist was kind enough to inform me of the circumstances before tatting me up and taking my money. I'm glad I didn't make a regretful decision, check them out and compare them to your regular shops. Can't wait til I want my rocker look back LOL...I WILL go here again....I trust them! read more

This place is dirty and unprofessional. They don't clean any of their stuff. My girlfriend got her ear pierced here and it was immediately infected. She called them and asked about it, they said it was normal. She ended up going to the doctor for antibiotic and had to remove the piercing. You would think this place would at least give her a refund, but they did not. Do not go here. read more

I've had two tattoos done here. The first was spontaneous, and I was with a group of college freshmen girls getting various piercings (and who were asking busy tattoo artists many annoying questions about pain), and they were still very professional and willing to take my tattoo idea seriously. I got it done on the inside of my ring finger, a location that is notorious for fading, and it has held up great even with the rubbing of a ring on it. I don't remember who did it, but I don't recognize him on the current staff online. My second was much more planned -- I got a butterfly tattoo on the inside of my left wrist. I came in with a picture of the butterfly I wanted on my phone (from Nabokov's sketches), and when I got there they told me to email to their shop email and in a few minutes they had it printed and resized. Chris Keaton did my second tattoo - he was super nice and did a BEAUTIFUL job - and listened to exactly what I wanted and then did it. Doesn't get any better than that. Ah, maybe a little bit -- It was only $70, which I considered a very fair (if not inexpensive) price for the beautiful tattoo I received. Besides that, the place is very clean/sanitary and has lots of displays to look at while you wait. Very happy I chose this place. read more

Went here to get my tongue pierced my freshman year at Loyola. They are really friendly and chill. I had a great experience they educated me on the process before I paid or made my choice. They don't try to sell it to you which is good when it comes to physical investments haha They make sure its entirely your choice yet they guide you with their expertise. Not intimidating like most piercing and tattoo places I have seen. The museum part is really interesting. The Baltimore Tattoo Museum is by far one of the best places to get tattooed on the city. I recently went, though, to see Ida Slaughter who does eyebrow microblading! I went in and we talked about what it was and what to expect. She's very thorough and professional, this woman is amazing. She measured and used an app to make sure everything was symmetrical and going to be beautiful. The microblading process itself was not painful to me, it was fun! After the first session I followed the care instructions perfectly and then a month later went back for the second session touchups. The end result is INCREDIBLE!! I have the eyebrows of a 20 year old who never over-plucked!! I highly recommend this to any person who wants the perfect eyebrows with zero daily work. Thank you, Ida! read more

I had a fantastic experience!! We were visiting Baltimore and my husband and I decided to set some tattoos that we've been wanting for some time. I was paired with Luke and I could not be happier!! He was super meticulous and my tattoos are the crispest, most beautiful I have. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and talented. My husband's tattoo is also beautifully done (script) but I don't remember his artist's name - so sorry! I'm guessing everyone there is great, but I can personally recommend Luke. I was a bit nervous about getting my Tragus pierced, but Chris calmed me down and was super friendly. He marked my ear based on where I wanted my piercing, told me how to breathe during the process, checked on my stability after and even provided me care instructions after.
