Bally's Casino in downtown Chicago is a solid spot if you're looking for a convenient place to gamble in the city. The casino itself is very clean, well maintained, and the staff are friendly, which definitely makes the experience more enjoyable. Went here on a Friday night for the first time since it's been open and had a really great time. The atmosphere was very exciting and fun. The staff was friendly. Beautiful scenery on the inside including a Michelangelo S Dan in the middle. It has three floors. I meant some great people as well. Surrounded by great hotels and restaurants that stay open late. Of course they stay open 24 hours. All in all I don't even gamble I just go for the atmosphere the drinks and the food. You won't be disappointed. read more

Came to check out the casino here. It's three levels with no-smoking allowed. There are plenty of slot machines and a few open table games that are very expensive to play. The music in the casino is so loud that you miss the exciting sounds of the slot machines clinking and dinging. There is a large bar in the front of the casino. The staff is sort of bland. I went to Bally's a couple of times during a recent visit to Chicago. There are some positives. It's clean, convenient to much of downtown and River North, and there is a decent selection of dining venues from snacks to sit down. But you don't go to a casino because of the food any more than you take an airplane trip because of the food. Your primary reason is to play. And, hopefully, win. "Good luck," I say. You'll need it here. While there a variety of machines with minimum bets from 25 cents (if you play only one line of a 9-line reel) to 88 cents (with eights appealing to the Asian guests) the machines are tight, tight, TIGHT. They're set up to make all the sounds that supposedly signal a win, but too many of those so-called wins don't even return your initial bet, let alone anything substantial. Bonuses were rare during my visits and, even when they did hit, they were stingy. If you just want to kill a little time, great, but you'll get a better return on your entertainment dollar if you sit at the bar and watch the TV. The machines? Meh. read more

I was then standing behind an overpopulated roulette table waiting my turn when a pit boss literally forced me away saying I need to make a hole. Power trip. Multiple dealer errors of not paying out when the correct color hit, and dealer marking wrong number. Multiple calls to security for footage. Man blatantly went through a woman's purse and staff was too nonchalant about it. Cash cage told me the chips I gave them weren't mine, to which I replied they were. After they stared at me for 20 seconds they paid out. Uneducated staff with no hospitality experience. Zero customer service and quite frankly too many errors which should warrant an investigation. I brought my family here who were in town and wanted to do something in the city without being out in the rainy weather. The bathrooms were extremely clean--at least the women's bathroom was; I can't speak for the men's. Clean bathrooms are something I'm always impressed with, especially in busy places like this. It was easy to get right into the experience, which was great. I didn't get to explore the upper level, so I'll definitely be back. One downside is that the complementary drinks offered are only non-alcoholic if you are gaming. Every other casino I've been to provides both complementary alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages as long as you're actively gaming. This place is conveniently located in the middle of River North with a parking garage right across the street, which is great. Also, if you have a Bally's membership card, they offer complementary parking. It's close to the mall as well as near other eateries. I have been to many casinos in different states and countries. This one was probably the worst that I can recall. The first time we visited during our trip to Chicago was after my birthday dinner, that was conveniently across the street. Our ID's were checked immediately upon entering. At least I received a happy birthday wish from the bouncer lol. There were also metal detectors. Holy shit! I guess better safe than sorry!?!? We then went to the bar and ordered drinks. Holy crap those were expensive! We decided to walk around and browse before sitting to gamble impulsively. There were several floors and we went through 2 before we sat down at a slot machine. We didn't bring much money with us but we also didn't expect to lose it so quick. OMG!! We decided on a revenge visit a couple days later and the same thing! What struck me was there was no excitement in the air. No one was loud or yelling with joy because they were winning. A fun thing I like to see at casinos are the regulars bumping into each and chit chatting. None of that here. Damn, people were not even hitting the machines! You definitely have to be a gambler and know what you're doing to win or even play at Bally's. This casino has 3 floors of games, with two of the floors having a bar you can get drinks at. The bartender on the first floor we had (Vinny) was truly awesome. The drinks here are also very expensive for plastic cup drinks, like most casinos. The place overall was busy, kind of cramped, and not the cleanest. For it being relatively new, it seems kind of worn down and outdated. It's very old-school classic casino. We were here in the middle of the day after brunch on a Saturday and it was busier than we thought it would be. This casino definitely brings in an interesting crowd, too. Garbage. We came here for one reason, because the casino was located in the old, historic Medinah Temple building. The positive portion of my review starts and abruptly ends with visiting a culturally historic building. Bally's has managed to hire on some real trash to run this casino, with particular attention to their craps table. The table boss here was nice, but the stick and chip handlers were awful. An older lady came to the table who was obviously learning the game. We were the only other people at the table, and trying to help her, as we know the game inside and out. The stick and chip women were abruptly rude to her, and constantly muttered insults under their breathe. The table manager should have dealt with the situation but let it go. I can only hope this trash is not afforded a job at the new casino when it opens. Treat your customers with respect!!! read more

Interesting concept, put a gambling casino in a Masonic temple. Can you think of a better oxymoron? The facility is lovely and the guests seemed to be having a good time. My complaint is with the security. I have seen this facility at several different phases of its service to River North so I only wanted to see the facility, not gamble, drink or eat. Since I was in the area I decided to stop in. I walked in with a large back pack over my shoulder (I had been shopping at the KristKindle Mart) . I did not pass through a metal detector. A young man asked to see my bag. I opened the 1st zipper area, he glanced in and said, "fine". I hadn't even gotten to the other 3 zipper areas. Not that I had anything dangerous in there, but I could have. Moral of the story, if you go into Chicago, be careful, but that is not new news. read more

It was so exciting and refreshing when I found out a casino opened downtown. It was about a week old when I visited. Security is a lot. There is a metal detector, ID scan, bag check. There are 3 floors with tables on the 2nd and 3rd floors. The slot machines were all of the newer animated ones that do a lot of song and dance for no reason. The tables..interesting. One dealer told us that some of them transferred from other casinos while others were BRAND new and went through training. Boy did it show. I went several times over the course of 3 days and saw dealers fumbling with cards, not knowing how to count chips and not knowing basic gambling jargon (color up). We even had a cashier not give us the right amount of money. I understand this is a temporary location, but it should not feel this sloppy. I hope they get it together because it's a wonderful amenity in a central location. read more

Brand new! It's clean, smoke free and spacious. The food service has not started yet. So, when that comes, I shall come back for an update. There is a cafe on the first floor that is open - it has pastries, coffee, sandwiches. On the third floor, there will be two restaurants. One is a Vietnamese restaurant and the other is a different cuisine type. The dealers are nice but still getting into the rhythm. The servers are nice. Soft drinks are free. There's a big bar on the second floor. Right now; there's a $10 free slots credit + reusable Bally's bag deal. So drop by and check it out. read more

This place looks like a nursing home , it is a place for the homeless to come and sit around and drink ! The staff is rude , they never come around to bring any drinks , classless ! There is no diversity working there only African Americans that are sitting around and if you need help , you are being dismissed! Total and absolute waste of time. They advertise free parking for Rewards members - but what they don't mention is that you have to spend rewards points to get the free parking. My wife and I learned this the hard way after going up to the 11th floor of the garage to where the free parking was, and holding up the line because my card wouldn't scan. Made everyone back up and we went down a few floors to park for the normal rate. Strike One. We walk across to the casino and it's in this beautiful old building that used to be an auditorium of some kind - pretty cool. It was very clean and had a bunch of bars and restaurants inside. It was a Thursday night and pretty crowded. They had crowds of people waiting for 15-25$ Blackjack tables and the single open $25 Craps table. They even had one Blackjack table where a guy was playing two hands with easily 3-5 people waiting to play. This is in addition to multiple tables with folks taking up seats and not gambling. Whatever. Usually in Vegas, they'll open up tables if they have too many people waiting. Makes sense right? Apparently not. Bally's didn't care to open enough tables for everyone wanting to play (strike two), and you definitely saw your usual trashy people taking up space in the casino as it was a cool, free, dry place in the city (strike three). I wouldn't waste your time to be honest. If you want to gamble, go to Indiana or to Rivers in Des Plaines. Or to the real gambling capital, Las Vegas. I always have a good time in Vegas. They check IDs and bags at the entrance, typical for most casinos I've been to. We asked if they could change 1 of the 20 TVs on the floor we were playing slot machines at to the football game that was on and were told to go up to the top floor bar where we could watch it on the big screen (a different game was on there, so no we couldn't.) Not a lot of options for slots here as far as variety, I've seen a lot better at other casinos. We only liked 2-3 of the games we played here. Didn't try the food or drinks as we came here to kill some time after dinner and watch the game but they wouldn't put it on, so we didn't feel the need to spend money on drinks. The exterior of the building is a gorgeous historic building, but I don't think it's really noticeable once you're inside. read more

My wife and I were downtown and stopped in on a lark. My wife sat down at one slot machine, put in $10, won on her second spin, and cashed out after a third spin. We went to a redemption machine to cash out her voucher for $17.75... and it was refused. Up the escalator we go to the cashiers station! They said it was coming up as a "duplicate ticket." We waited there for a good 20 minutes while they sorted it out. Less than 5 minutes of play and 20+ minutes waiting to cash out. This was our first visit to this casino. We'll never go back. Disappointing and Unwelcoming Experience at Tre Denari Tre Denari bills itself as an Italian concept promising warmth, authenticity, and an approachable team. Unfortunately, our visit offered none of those qualities. From the moment we arrived, it was clear management prioritizes certain guests while leaving others to fend for themselves. Despite only two tables being seated when we walked in, no one explained the "tasting menu meant to be shared," a detail we had to learn from nearby casino staff--not the restaurant itself. The service was disorganized from the start: my husband's drink arrived promptly while mine required two follow-ups. We placed our full order--appetizers, salads, pasta, and entrées--at once. Appetizers and salads were dropped on the table together, then we waited nearly 25 minutes for our entrées while watching later-arriving tables enjoy multiple courses and finish eating before we'd been served. The pasta never came despite repeated inquiries; we finally canceled it and asked for the check. What made the situation worse was management's indifference. They seemed far more interested in catering to people they knew than ensuring every guest received equal treatment. The staff displayed none of the "warmth" or "approachability" promised in the restaurant's concept statement. Not even a token gesture--like comping an item--was offered for the poor experience. Ironically, the casino dealers nearby were friendlier and more attentive than anyone on the restaurant floor. If Tre Denari is not prepared to give all customers the elevated experience they advertise, they should make it an invitation-only club rather than misleading the public. For a place that claims to deliver hospitality and authenticity, Tre Denari was an absolute letdown. I'd give them zero stars if I could. read more
