One we have been to was closed for the holiday, understandably so. We happened upon Rouse's and so glad we did. The food was hot and fresh and delicious. The atmosphere was very traditional with a bit of vintage quirk. I had the bbq chicken with okra and onion rings. My husband had fried chicken with squash and fries. He was a tad disappointed that we were too early for a baked potato (they start serving those at 5). The chicken was fall off the bone delicious!! Our server Esli was quiet, very sweet and very attentive to our drinks and requests. Don't pass by without stopping at the little gem.

I recently took my mother to have an early lunch during the Sunday buffet on New Year's Eve. She can't stop talking about it. It is a wonderful value for $15.99 a person AYCE. My favorite menu items are the fried chicken, hamburger steak, sweet potatoes, turnip greens, squash, Lima beans, hush puppies & fried fish. The options are plentiful. You should plan to arrive early. It was crowded but the staff kept things replenished in a timely manner with wonderful friendly service. The dining room is very vintage and traditional. I loved the Christmas decor, real wood burning fireplace, and the deer in Santa hats. The restaurant staff provide excellent southern hospitality. I can't wait to come again or plan a family dinner in the event room.

As we sat enjoying the atmosphere while sipping our wine we decided to venture up to the salad bar. The options of toppings were many and everything was fresh and well stocked. We gathered our salads and returned to our table. When we were almost done our appetizer reached the table brought by a pleasant young man dressed in black. As he placed it on the table he inquired if we needed anything else and true to form I requested a bottle of A1 sauce. The young man looked puzzled but obliged my request. Even though I and my husband have eaten steak at some of the best chophouses and steakhouses across the nation and some in other countries I always found that A1 was needed to bring much needed flavor and moisture. The loaded potato skins were absolutely delicious!!! The melted cheddar cheese and crumbled bacon was perfect! While we finished our appetizer the same black clothed young man placed our main course in front of us. The fragrant, ribeye steaks that adorned our dinner plates wafted to our noses and mixed with visual cross seared markings that glistened caused us to salivate instantly!!! The asparagus and green beans were bright and beautiful while the grilled shrimp were scrumptious. I grabbed the well weighted steak knife and my fork making the first cut into this luscious piece of beef before me. I don't even think the knife was necessary as this perfectly cooked, buttery beef was effortless to cut with a fork. The sear and crust of this steak was unlike anything I've experienced. I took that first piece and placed it in my mouth and just closed my eyes while savoring the perfection that was the most perfect steak I'd ever eaten in almost 50 years of life! I sat and savored every single bite like it was the only food need for living. The asparagus was like butter with absolutely no chew or fibers of the stalk and the green beans had a beautiful snap with the mushrooms were flavorfully perfect. At the end of our meal we ordered dessert which was cheesecake. I opted for the sweet potato, maple and my husband opted for chocolate. As we spoke to Stephanie our amazing waitress I requested to speak to, meet and shake the hand of the master chef that cooked the amazing meal we had. After receiving our coffee to accompany our dessert a tall, pleasant bearded man in a black chef coat walked over to our table. James who is not only the master of his kitchen but he is also the owner of this amazing establishment. He shook our hands as we showered him in praise regarding his beef cooking prowess. James was warm and jovial accepting our praise some humbly thanking us for our kind words. He asked to take a seat at our table to continue our conversation and we quickly motioned for him to take a seat. My husband and I told him about the national article written about him and his restaurant leading us to drive there just for the steak. He was so surprised because he had no idea this article even existed. My husband handed James his phone so he could email the article to himself. The conversation continued and James told us the story of how he and his wife built their staff and how they all have become such a supportive, loving family always watching out for and caring for one another. It was truly one of the greatest experiences we have had in a long time! The food, the atmosphere, the company and conversation was perfect. It was an honor meeting James and his staff and we will definitely return every chance we get. Anyone in the pursuit of the perfectly cooked steak needs to make a trip to FarmVille North Carolina and allow James to change your mind about how beef should taste! By the way, that bottle of A1 remained on the corner of our table and was never opened. Unfortunately, I didn't take photos of the amazing steaks we ate because we were to busy eating them. I didn't take photos include photos of the cheesecakes.

We were delighted to be personally greeted by none other than Vivian Howard -- James Beard Award-winning chef, restaurateur, television personality, and author. It was our first visit since Chef Vivian reimagined the restaurant into its current format: an intimate, chef-driven dining concept she calls "Chef New," inspired by one of her favorite restaurants, Chez Nous in Charleston, where a compact menu of six rotating daily selections keeps the focus squarely on quality and creativity. Chef Vivian herself seated us, and from that moment, the warmth and intentionality of the experience never let up. We were fortunate to be seated directly in front of the open kitchen, where we had the pleasure of meeting Chef Hope and watching the culinary team work with quiet precision. Every member of the staff -- from our server to the pastry and salad chef -- contributed to an atmosphere that felt both refined and genuinely welcoming. The prix-fixe menu, which rotates weekly, offered a wonderful range of choices. We opened with a starter of soft-shell crabs -- caught just two hours prior -- served with charred scallion mayo and a bright corn relish. The dish was extraordinary: delicate, fresh, and perfectly executed. My wife's Brussels sprouts, tossed with spiced peanuts and goat cheese and finished with a honey vinaigrette, were equally impressive. A generous pour of Sorgente Prosecco made it all the better. For our mains, I chose the flank steak, accompanied by asparagus with green butter and a silky root vegetable purée. My wife opted for the house-made tagliatelle in a shrimp scampi that she couldn't stop talking about. Both dishes were beautifully presented and thoughtfully composed, reflecting the restaurant's deep commitment to farm-to-table sourcing and local ingredients. The meal concluded with fantastic desserts and continued conversation with the staff, who were as knowledgeable as they were passionate. Throughout the evening, there was an evident attention to detail in every element -- from the food preparation to the way each dish was explained and presented. This is the kind of dining experience that reminds you why food matters. We will absolutely be back.

Let me also say that I am the consummate "foodie", my life has been driven by my passion for all types of food. When I dine, I try to go into the restaurant with no expectations, so you can pretty much trust what I am telling you about the experience. With that being said, we had just moved to Greenville a few days before and decided we needed to treat ourselves after the week of moving and unpacking. We decided on The Rickhouse, notwithstanding the fact that my first name is Rick! Anyway, we were sat immediately, and were approached quickly by our waiter, Christian. In short, Christian was fabulous throughout the entire meal, even considering the fact that it was only his first week on the job. He certainly has a flair for waiting tables. We ordered drinks and I have had a fair amount of Grey Goose dirty martinis in my life and let me tell you, the bartender knocked this one out of the ballpark. One of the best I have ever had anywhere! We ordered an app, the Chef Crab Dip and it was wonderful. Not too crabby, perfect blend of cheeses and pita chips that I am pretty sure are house-made. I had the Chicken Cordon Bleu which was absolutely out of this world! I got to sample the other two entrees at the table, which were the Garlic Parm Chicken Pasta and the special that evening, which was a bacon wrapped Filet Mignon topped with a bacon jam. Both of them were also to die for! We didn't have dessert as we were stuffed already. The bill was $189, which I didn't consider bad as we had an app, three entrees and six drinks. While some might consider that a lot for dinner, I'm also the guy that doesn't bat an eye at spending $600 for a dinner for two at a gourmet French restaurant. Anyway, I can't recommend The Rickhouse enough. Everything from start to finish was just about as perfect of an experience as you can get at a restaurant! I just hope our next visit will be as wonderful as our first!

However, the best part was the service. For the course of a dinner at least four times service staff stopped by and asked if everything was to hour satisfaction. Got to give it to them - really nice place.
