I found this place from yelp when looking for bbq on the way home from vacation. There is no inside dining or restrooms available. This is strictly a drive through location but there are a few picnic tables in the parking lot if you want to sit outside weather permitting. Service was quick with wonky on other person on front of us. The cashier definitely had a strong Carolina accent so I imagine they are local. My son and I got bbq sandwiches with hush puppies and fries. The bbq sandwich was clearly the highlight and was vinegar based topped with chopped coleslaw. The fries and coleslaw were just ok for me. I like my hush puppies a little on the sweeter side. My hubby got the 2 pc fried chicken special for the day with baked beans, coleslaw and hush puppies. He thought the chicken had good flavor, the baked beans were a little sweet and the slaw was good. I think it as worth the trip. Next time I'd probably try different sides and skip the hush puppies but maybe they just weren't my thing. I definitely felt like I was getting a home cooked meal. read more

I have eaten here for years,, Food was always good but over the last year a lot has changed .. The BBQ was always decent, not great but good.. Now the BBQ is just mediocre,, The seafood was always good but it seems they changed their breader and just isn't good anymore.. It's ok,just not worth what you have to pay for it.. Seems like most of the sides have changed also.. Don't know why but there has been no indoor dining since the pandemic.. it's sad to say but the quality of everything has gone downhill.. Driving into Washington I saw this place & went there today for lunch. No table service, you go to the counter and place your order and are given a restaurant buzzer to let you know when you order is ready. I ordered the small barbecue plate with fries and sweet tea. The small was enough to fill me - I'd hate to see how much food would have been with the large plate. Great Eastern NC style BBQ pork. Just the right amount of seasoning, and if you wanted more of a vinegar or hot sauce taste those items were on the table. Decor has lots of farm, country, and animal photos on the wall and little country odds and ends everywhere. Very nice restaurant choice for good BBQ. read more

This is some of the BEST southern home cooking that you will find. The 2 piece fried chicken special is my favorite with fried okra, homemade mac and cheese, half dozen hush puppies, side of slaw, and beverage for only $8! It is enough food for TWO meals! The flounder and barbecue is also very good. Homemade cakes are made daily with strawberry being my favorite. Staff is very pleasant. I stop by the place at least once a week. I had half a rack of ribs, collared greens & fried okra. The hush puppies were pretty unique & fresh. The food was so good here. The servings are huge. Friends had pulled pork & a whole bunch of other stuff. Everything we tried was great. This restaurant has alot of bows & random items for sale & looks like a carry out place. Don't be fooled. I am from out of town and found this Great BBQ joint on Yelp. I am glad i did, this is what NC is known for! You order at the counter. I got the BBQ sandwich meal, complete with fries and a drink for $6. Another got a platter with great fried chicken, BBQ and a side. Food was fast and excellent. Have not had food from here in a few years since leaving NC. Visiting family for Thanksgiving and thought to get food from favorite BBQ place in Washington, NC. What an absolute waste of money. The food was horrible and had lost any decent flavor. Whatever flavor was left was sour and sickening. Unfortunately will never go here again and will have to enjoy Eastern NC BBQ by making it at home in Kentucky. Went there for the first time yesterday. So far I've been disappointed with the "authentic barbeque" that I've seen in and near Greenville. Most of the BBQ places in town taste like fast food and I had about given up hope. However...this place is the real thing, and then some. I ordered the large plate and I got enough pulled pork to fill me up (which is very hard to do, trust me) along with awesome Brunswick Stew and Hush Puppies on the side. The 'cue was just right, and in true Carolina fashion the vinegar and hot sauce are on the side. My only criticism is that there wasn't any bark mixed in with the pulled pork, but that's something I can only get when I have a pig pickin at home every July 4th. Highly recommended read more

Stopped in for some BBQ while heading to Swan Quarter to catch ferry to Ocracoke. We kept it simple ordering Pulled Pork BBQ sandwich (with slaw of course!) Man it was yummy .. Great flavor with just the right amount of Carolina vinegar sauce. Love the coleslaw ... I have no idea how they ground the cabbage so small (almost like Cous Cous) not a mayo based sauce but really good. Added a side of Brunswick Stew which was also very tasty, not the best I've had but solid. This would be my go to BBQ spot if it weren't 5 hours away. Stop in don't think you will be disappointed! I am giving this two stars because I am not familiar with North Carolina style BarBQ so may be unduly harsh, but this was the strangest BarBQ I have ever eaten. The meat was a mystery to me. I think it was pork (based on color--grey) but I don't really know. There was a lot of it, but it was the consistency and texture of dry tuna fish and kind of tasted like it. There was no sauce-- I think it was mixed in. The coleslaw was all ground up and mushy. I found the texture of both meat and slaw to be very off-putting and weird. The collards were good as was the stew and you get a lot for a reasonable price but I just couldn't get the mystery meat past my eyes. read more

Really disappointed in the barbecue sandwich. There simply was no barbecue on the bun. I cannot tell you if the 'cue was any good because all I could taste was the chewy bun and a little of the slaw. Very disappointed. The sandwich is only 4 bucks - I recommend raising it to $5 and actually putting some 'cue on it. Otherwise, you are going to continue to have put-out customers who think you are a bunch of cheapskates. read more

I was in the Greenville, NC area visiting family. I looked online to find a place where I could buy whole live crabs and steam them yourself. I passed this place called Hog Heaven BBQ. I have actually turned my family on to this place. I have tried Parker's BBQ, Gardner's BBQ and a number of other places near the eastern part of the state. There is ABSOLUTELY no comparison!!! Classic Eastern NC BBQ, and great fried ckn. Fri is a rib special that is excellent. Not much for atmosphere like some of the other older ENC places, but the food is well worth your time. We went recently and were very disappointed. The hominess of the place was gone, no more gift shop and you had to go to the counter to order your food. When it cameout to us, it was mediocre at best. The food here is really good. However, I was disappointed for the first time ever and I have been going here for over 20 years off and on. It wasn't the taste of the food...it was what I paid for versus what I got! I got the barbeque chicken white meat. It was moist and very good. However, the size of the chicken breast on both plates was the size of a not full grown chicken. The breasts were about the size of a thigh! Skimped on the veggies as well! They looked to be a half serving on my to go plate. This all cost me $30.00. Way to much for way to little. But the food is good! read more

The service was efficient. I ordered a BBQ sandwich and fries. The fries were great but the sandwich was only ok. The BBQ was very salty. I actually did not eat all of the sandwich due to the salt. My husband had a BBQ and Chicken plate. The fried chicken and collard greens were good. The potato salad was not very good, but I like drier potato salad and this was very creamy. Went here for my Dad's birthday...the only way to describe the pulled pork is using the Southern saying, "it's slap-yo-mamma-good!" Very moist, done the right way.
