This is the best car audio store I've ever visited. Without question, I'd recommend Bill and Ballard Custom Audio for any car electronics repairs or upgrades. Not only is he a master of his craft, he is also scrupulously honest and puts the customer's interests first. On top of the quality of service, friendliness, and honesty, prices are exceptionally fair. I went in with an annoying audio problem in my $8-10k 2006 Audi A4 (from an ok but not-perfect installation at a shop in California 5y ago). I was ready to spend $2k to replace the stereo and AV to eliminate the problem. I actually slept through one appointment here, which was graciously rescheduled for the following day. I showed up a bit early for my appointment and Bill took a quick look at the car. We discussed what would be required to upgrade the car (which has some other benefits, but the car will likely be replaced as soon as a $2-5k major maintenance issue comes up, which on an audi turbo over 100k miles, is unfortunately not that uncommon.) While pulling the factory radio and discussing options, he found the source of the problem; the current booster for iPhone 5 and later phones on the particular old Dension adapter was creating electrical noise due to placement. By rearranging wires, the problem was fixed. What really impressed me is fixing this basically prevented a $2-3k major upgrade (or rather delayed it -- I still am likely to upgrade to get all the new functionality I want). A lot of shops would have been tempted to just directly go for the upgrade. When it comes to smooth, I'm tough to beat: I put a nice sized piece of lumber right through the infotainment screen on my VW Touareg. Bill sourced the replacement screen at a price equivalent to the best price available after an hour searching the internet myself, and completed the install in a very timely fashion. But where they earned that fifth star was the support provided post-replacement. The part itself, through no fault of Ballard's, was faulty. Bill sourced a second screen, tested it, and re-installed it, at no additional cost to me. I email Car Toys to set up an appointment for my new stereo and Bluetooth, after one response they never followed up to set the appointment. I search Yelp for another place besides Car Toys and Best Buy, and I found Ballard Custom Audio. I was weary of the 5 star reviews - after all, if it's too good to be true... Well, it's true. Ballard Custom Audio was $35 dollars cheaper than Car Toys. Installed my stereo and bluetooth in less than an hour, and on my schedule. I contacted them via email to set my appointment. They were very responsive and friendly. I'm going back for speaker and amp work in the future. This place is great! I would recommend to anyone to come here for installation. First off, I know nothing about stereo equipment let alone ones for your car. I emailed them and got a quote right away, I followed up with a call and got to make a appointment for two weeks later. Again the person I was dealing with was nice and helpful. At my appointment, told I was the facts, explained what I was being charged for and I would pay once completed to make sure I was satisfied. After 3 hours my car was done on time as they said. Both Bill and the other guy (didn't get his name) were extremely nice. Bill showed me how to use it and explained warranties and I was good to go! I live across the water from Seattle, but I was determined to find a car audio place that knew their products, was friendly, and did high quality installation work. After exchanging a couple of e-mails with Bill, I could tell right away that he offered reliable information and he was able to take my budget and work with it. He let me know what my options were, and never tried push things on me that I didn't need. I wound up a leaving a very happy customer. His work was fast, the speakers sound great, and he stands behind all of his installations. As somebody new to aftermarket car audio, the whole experience was comfortable, informative, and pressure free. It feels good to support a local family business, and the level of service was much higher than you'll find at any chain or big box store. I had a system installed on my 2014 Audi A4 by Bill back in 2013. The system was originally an LC6, a Kenwood amp, a custom subwoofer box in the trunk and Morel speakers for the fronts and backs. After a short period of time, I found out about another piece of hardware that could be used to replace the LC6 and potentially integrate with the Audi system directly - a Mobridge DA2. Bill had never heard of them, but was happy to give it a try, and we got it installed. Fast forward to the present, and the Mobridge had stopped working (some combination of it being my own fault for playing with the setup, and the mobridge being very poorly documented and unreliable.) I went back in and Bill was quite happy to help bring the system back to a working state. I don't think I can emphasize enough how friendly, knowledgeable and helpful Bill has been - other than the drive into Seattle from the east side, Ballard Custom Audio has been an awesome place to go for my car. Bill is THE custom audio electronics professional, hands down.  I purchased a front and rear dash cam from him and had him install it in a 3 week new hybrid. I had to take it back since some fluke weirdness happened to the fuse area after the installation and my rear window stopped working.  He was so patient and wanted to make sure the issue was fixed, and even had to deal with the headache of having to listen to the car dealership meatheads talk garbage about his work (lies) and what they thought was wrong (they were incorrect).  After everything was fixed I had him install new Hella horns in my new car since I hated the stock horn - weak and lame sound.  The entire time I'm in there, he's ripping out peoples' cars and outfitting them with custom whatnot - I was amazed at the scope of vehicles he works on. Bill is a dedicated, honest, talented professional.  I've seen him working on run of the mill and vintage cars and much nicer ones (Teslas, Infinity) - he is truly talented.  If you are super finicky about who touches your car (like I am) and concerned if it will get the care and attention it needs, bring it here. This is the antithesis of taking it to Best Buy or Car Toys.  Probably about the same price or maybe very slightly higher, but world class vs dubious quality service. We are fortunate to have such a technically talented, honest, and hard working pro in this area. Stop looking at reviews and call him. Where do I begin? Well, first by clicking the little 5-star button. Bill and Ballard Custom Audio are the best additions to the neighborhood in years. I called them on a whim -- my wife and I just purchased a small shuttle bus that we're converting into a kämping-wagen/party bus and I was daunted by the idea of installing a great audio system in there. Bill and Elysha were immediately excited by the project. Bill worked closely with me to match my budget and my big dreams for the bus. He carefully explained his product choices, and the exact way he was going to setup the system. He scheduled me quickly, just a few days out. And once I rolled the beast into the garage, he was done fast. He discovered some other issues with the bus like my bad rear battery, explained how and why it was negatively affecting the system, then invited me in to help fix it. When it was all done, the work was pristine -- I've installed a few car audio systems for myself and friends, and unquestionably this was the cleanest, most solid work I've ever seen. Service here is top notch. I had an iSimple cable installed that would allow me to connect my iPhone to my car stereo. After several months the cable stopped working properly. I brought it back in and got a replacement, no charge. It then happened again, and I just brought it in and was offered an upgrade to Bluetooth for just the cost of the parts. Bill and Jordan at Ballard custom were a pleasure to work with and I'm happy to recommend them. I wanted an Alpine head unit installed in my 2005 Scion tC and Bill helpfully listed out the pros and cons of the particular unit I wanted vs. others from Pioneer. Once I'd decided on the unit, Jordan was able to find me an appointment the same week, knowing that I was excited and in a bit of a hurry so that I wouldn't exceed the return policy on the unit. On the day of my install Bill quickly determined I was missing a bracket from my factory stereo that he'd need in order to complete the work. Rather than send me on my way, Bill kept working on what he could get done while my wife drove the bracket over to us. During the work, I sat on a stool in the shop and chatted away with Bill and Jordan about business and life, and it was like hanging out with friends. Once the job was done, everything worked great and looked good. Ballrad Custom gets 5 stars because they were so nice, but mentally there's a half star knocked off because I think they should consider how they handle their considerable success. When my install was being done, it seemed like the volume of walk-ins and phone calls was quite high, which is obviously a good sign, but I also felt that Bill and Jordan were spread *just* a bit too thin, and might risk losing clients. For example, I had to call back to catch a live person when my voicemail went unanswered the first time. read more

As I told the ladies across the street at the way station "I came here because he seems to be the only guy in King County that knows about stereo installation". It's not far from the truth. I have a 20th AE GTI that I've mucked with over the years, and one day a few years ago I busted the connector to the antenna. Parts went a flyin. I thought I'd fix it later. Fast forward, I got a new stereo (without a tape deck this time). Took it out and thought "crap, how am I going to deal with this problem". I called a local stereo place my mechanic recommended, and a VW dealership, another local place. Everyone was completely incompetent and frankly unwilling to help. Bill at Ballard Custom Audio heard the problem and said "Yeah I'm pretty sure I can help you out, bring it on by". Now my preference would be to replace the connector with the same one, but even doing research online, these connectors seem to be unicorns. He offered instead to just splice the antenna with the right adapter for the new stereo, and install it. An hour and a half later, he was done. It was installed wonderfully, at a reasonable price. I'd make the trip out here from Woodinville any day for the great service he gave. Oh and hanging out at the Way Station Cafe across the street wasn't bad either. read more

After changing out my antenna, my old stereo in my 1987 Minnie Winnie Winnebago stopped working and after much time, I decided to call these guys and ask if they could take a look. Bill and Jordan were not only friendly,informative and helpful they did a quick test on my unit and alas! After 30 years of use it had gone to the graveyard...GO FIGURE! :-). I was in luck as an appointment had been cancelled and they set to work right away replacing it with a brand new modern stereo with blue-tooth and the works, installed for a very reasonable price. They were so professional I thought I was in a dentist office and not a audio repair shop. I was dazzled with all the features of the new unit, but after installation I noticed that my windshield washer no longer worked. I haven't had any work done here yet but when inquiring about an autokey keyless entry system Bill asked me to bring the car in so we can chat about it. Once I did Bill walked me through the options and told me how expensive the full suite of features (keyless entry, alarm, remote start) would cost to get installed. He then asked about my needs and what I was looking to get out of the system, because a lot of the cost came from the remote start feature and if I was looking for just the keyless entry then it would be much cheaper. I didn't feel pressured at all to pick one or the other. He seemed genuinely interested in making sure I got what I was needing . He spent a half an hour with me just chatting about the process, the install prices of each portion of the system, and timelines. Bill is obviously very passionate about his work and the quality he delivers. He might be a bit more pricey than your average stereo shop, but I can tell from other reviews and pictures of installations that there's a really good reason for it and why he's booked up for weeks on end. I found Ballard Custom Audio online and after reading the reviews I called and talked to Bill about a system for my DJ husband (audio snob) for Christmas. I wanted to surprise him, but being a DJ he knows what he wants. Bill was great and informative over the phone and we set a time for me to go in. I went into his shop and he helped me pick out what to get based on what I thought he would want, what Bill felt would be up to par, and what would work in his truck. I purchased a set of front and rear speakers and a 8 inch subwoofer. He recommended I purchase them in the box and give, then if he wants to change it out we're not stuck with what's been installed! I waited a couple months to write this review just to be sure everything was working well (it is). I have a 2007 4Runner that I really like, but the electronics were dated (e.g., CD player in the dash). I looked at new cars and didn't find anything I liked as well as my old 4Runner, so I decided to look into getting new electronics. I am so glad I did, and very glad I found Ballard Customer Audio. Bill took the time to understand my needs and make "right sized" recommendations for radio, amplifier, speakers, etc. I now have a touch-screen radio with SiriusXM, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, backup camera, dash cam, and upgraded speakers with subwoofer and it all looks like it was installed at the factory. I also have an inverter for 120VAC power under the front passenger seat. They installed sound deadening material that cut the road noise down tremendously. Outstanding service. The aftermarket Pioneer head unit in my Toyota was dead and before that had inoperative steering wheel controls. Bill and his team might have upsold me on a new unit -- but they didn't and told me the current unit was good and just need a fuse. I needed to find someone who could do a bit of customizing to put in a new multimedia head unit and back-up camera in my older vehicle. I am usually very reluctant to "trust" any shop and it makes me very nervous when I am so unknowledgeable in any area where I am receiving service. However the shop had actual pictures up on their website of both the vehicle I have and the work they did on it--which was exactly what I wanted. I talked to approximately 7 different shops before connecting with Ballard Custom Audio. There was no question they knew what they were doing; and somewhat to my surprise I put myself in their hands. The work was superb, the service was superb. I checked independently on all their recommendations and found them to be excellent (from speakers, to head unit to back-up camera). I brought my '87 VW Vanagon here. It's a classic! But difficult to get good sound in one of those things - they're big and boxy, the doors are pretty slim, etc. Turns out vanagons are in vogue these days, and these guys have seen quite a few of them. They did so amazingly on it. Also, they worked with me, walked me through options, and got it all done on a tight schedule. Very fun. Turns out that the day I was there was the day of the Fremont solstice naked bike ride. So I got a coffee and cheered naked bikers in day-glo paint while the guys worked on my van. I got a backup camera installed here for my Subaru. I gave them a call and the person was very helpful over the phone with many details and told me if I stopped by I'd get a consultation. No appointment necessary. The hardest part was finding them as it literally is a hole in the wall. The owner took a look at my car and told me what my options were. In order to get the price lower, I gave up some of the features. The unit came with a new stereo and some of the stereo features didn't interest me. We made an appointment within two weeks and I brought my car in and they installed the camera. It was pretty uneventful. When I went to pick it up they took their time to walk me through the new stereo. They even set up my bluetooth. I never felt rushed. I love the camera. I'm much better at parallel parking. No more bumping the cars behind me. And I really feel it's the ethical thing to do. I would be devastated if I hurt anyone with my car. I really wish this were something that was required. I contacted Ballard Custom Audio after reading the reviews on yelp. It was the week before christmas and I had just gotten a new (used) car with a faulty radio. Bill responded promptly, and offered to squeeze me into the schedule so that I wouldn't have to drive around without music! Despite the fact that he was leaving for vacation the next day, he installed my new head unit, speakers, and alarm. He helped choose a system that fit my budget and didn't pressure me to get something more expensive. The install was done very well and the system sounds great. A couple of thing. First you will pay a little more. Second, it may take a little longer to have the install done. Third, IT IS WELL WORTH IT! I am a music freak. I have had stereo systems installed by Car Toys and Super Stereo Warehouse. I have always felt a bit uncomfortable with kids that think they are expert installers and not being able to see what they have done to my vehicle. My last install was done at SSW and it was not the most pleasent. I hate when installers call you and say "Hey we need to add this and it will cost you." Then you pick up your care and they say "Hey we needed this but didn't have it so you will need to bring the car back." Then YOU find the part a couple blocks from thier shop. Then you pull the stereo out to put the part in. Then you see a lot of electrical tape and speakers that were not hooked up. Not so with Bill @ BCA. Between him and Logan, they had me covered. Logan (sales guy and Bill's right hand guy) walked me through what would be good ideas to get the quality I wanted. Bill (owner and installer) did an outstanding job and went above and beyond. He/they even fixed something for me that the car dealer had screwed up and had bothered me for a few years. My dash was a bit out of line and I'm a little OCD about my vehicles. The dealer wanted to charge me again to fix it right. When I went to pick up the car (Jeep) Bill said "I fixed your dash on the house." That made my day. It's the little things. Then we turned on the system to run me through it. You don't get that at CT's or SSW. I didn't want to get out of the car it sounded so good. Logan made sure my phone synced with the Bluetooth and tested it to make sure it sounded good on both ends. The car wasn't quite ready when I went to pick it up but I got to spend some time with Bill's three year old son in the shop. What a delightful little guy. My only complaint. They didn't set the clock on it. I'M KIDDING. If you want a stereo done right. If you want old school craftsmanship. If you want straight up people. If you want peace of mind. Go see Bill and Logan. When I get in the car and crank the system, I get wood. They will be THE ONLY people that do a stereo system for me again. read more

All these 5 star reviews must be getting boring... ;-) But here's another one. I called Ballard Custom Audio because I had a closet full of stuff I'd bought online, intending to install it myself given that I had lots of free time and good intentions. Cut to the present and I had no more time and was starting to feel guilty about the stuff gathering dust in the closet. So I found Ballard Custom Audio by looking here on Yelp. Honestly - sometimes I'm leery of a place with too many 5 star reviews, but the praise here sounded genuine, and so I gave them a call. For some reason I felt a little shy about getting custom audio in my nearly 10-yr old Rav4. Putting a valuable stereo in a not-valuable car seemed like overkill in my mind, and the reviews for the custom places were full of comments from porsche and BMW owners. But I love my trusty little car, and it definitely needed some stereo TLC after all these years. Who'd want to take on my trusty-but-unexciting, little econobox as anything but an afterthought? Well - when I talked to Bill, he immediately grasped the whole situation and displayed nothing but good humor, excitement and understanding throughout the entire process. Bill seems to have a good grasp on who his customers are. He seemed very much on the same wavelength from the get-go, and there was no pressure to do anything more or less than what I had planned. Certainly he had some suggestions, but there was no pressure, and they were all in line with my budget and the rest of the system. I also got the impression that he just genuinely wanted my car (whatever it may be) to sound as good as it could, and for me to enjoy being in it. I never got the impression that my little job was unworthy of his time and he treated my vehicle with respect. His work was done on time and very neatly. He even turned an unused storage cubby in the back into a custom enclosure for a sub-woofer so I didn't have to give up any cargo space. It turned out beautifully and I'm thrilled with it! It looks just as good as it sounds. I had a bluetooth microphone installed. It's installed in a perfect spot, no wires show and he made sure my phone paired with the system before I left. Bill was very careful to explain how things had been done, and gave me all the information I needed to know in order to use it. I would also like to note that I did opt for installing Dynamat(sp?) and it makes a noticable difference in the level of interior noise and, to a lesser extent, vibration. This is an older vehicle that has always been noisy (esp on the highway), and while it's not night and day - the difference is definitely there and I am so glad I went for it. Bill recommended it to help optimize the speakers, but I appreciate it even when they're off. I also appreciate that he was careful not to oversell it. It may be overkill for a nicer car, but boy has it made this one more comfortable. My car sounds fantastic - better than I even hoped for. The audio is crisp and clear, and that car never sounded that good new. It is 100x more fun to be in now that I have quality sound and seamless integration with my devices. I am extremely thankful I did this, and I couldn't be happier with the quality of work and the high level of customer service provided. I would highly recommend Ballard Custom Audio to anyone, and will most definitely take my car there for anything that comes up in the future. read more

Long story short, I self-installed a Mediabridge in my 2003 BMW to bring it to modern technologies - Bluetooth, AUX, iPod, Sirius (great product), yet when I had the system completely installed as per the install manual I had no audio. It was a previously installed other BMW after-market system that was installed that prevented the new system to work properly. I called several audio specialists, including BMW dealers in Seattle and Bellevue, to receive no help. Well, BMW offered to inspect the system for $169. Then, parts and labor after that to the tune of around $320 (just to inspect and install!!!). Frustrated, I just drove over to Bill's garage after speaking to him earlier in the week. He remembered my problem, jumped in my car (as the dash was still open and dismantled) and took care of the problem within 10 min. Saved me a ton of time, frustration and money. Bill knows his stuff and is a true to pleasure to work with. These guys are the best around. I've had Bill do 3 very different and very complex builds - all with different budgets and use cases. He's a creative perfectionist. The sound quality of these builds are always amazing but just as importantly the fit and finish of the installations is beyond compare. I purchased a advanced keys kit for passive keyless access and a knob to start(woo hoo no more annoying car keys!) but the install was way beyond me. I sent an email to Bill and he was super quick to respond and said drop by when I receive it. I dropped in and he seemed super knowledgeable and scheduled me the next day the shop was open. The quality of the work was perfect, and I was really happy with the results. After getting home I realized I needed a few things tweaked and I emailed him. He responded to me at 10 PM! And said to drop by when I could the next day. He quickly took care of everything I needed and the system is perfect. Exactly what I envisioned. Seriously, don't even consider going anywhere else.
