And in case you were wondering, yes a paddywack is indeed a strong elastic ligament in the midline of the neck of sheep or cattle. Room upon room upon room, the labyrinth that is Ballard Consignment has everything from your standard 3-seat airport bench to a gigantic golden ox-head which is obviously mountable from walls. Reached out to owner after he publicly stated he would pay for repair. His exact words were "nothing I can do on this one." If I sold something that I wasn't proud of, I would do everything I could to fix it. Why even bother shopping there if the quality is poor and they do not honor their merchandise? Just order off the Internet and avoid the mark-up. None of this changes the fact I have two pieces of junk furniture from this place that I paid $1,000 for. DO NOT CONSIGN HERE True Story: 1) They accept my 1940s metal and glass wall sconce for consignment. The sconce is in excellent condition. 2) I call each month to see if it sold per the contract - they will not call you. 3) Six months pass and when I make the monthly call I am told that the item was sold and I can pick up my check. 4) I go to pick up the check, but there is not a check for me. The clerk checks my account and tells me that that it actually had not sold but instead that the sconce "fell apart" and was removed from inventory. 5) I ask for evidence of this. None is provided, not even a picture. I am told that they had it for a "long time" in some storage room which has now been cleaned up. This "long time" was three weeks, during which I was not notified at all about the situation. 6) I mention that the item was in excellent condition when I brought it in and should not have "fallen apart." I am told by the clerk that customers and movers break items all the time and per the contract the store is not responsible to compensate me. (Apparently they don't hold whomever breaks an item responsible either??) At best this is terrible customer service and at worst it is theft. They were unapologetic either way. So rather than being nice and apologetic for being misleading about a couch they sold me that was covered in paint and filled with trash once we pulled up the cushions, (Yes, I know it's a used store and I should have been more careful but what's with the high markup then if they're going to do nothing to it?! It took me only 30 minutes to clean it) the owner decided to bully and insult me, which you can see he has done to anyone who leaves less than a 4/5 star review. How does he expect to gain any business by being this way? No wonder his business is failing. He sells trash for a high price then treats you like trash if you complain about it. For this, I update my review to one star when in fact they should get 0. I am a small business owner myself and would never treat a customer this way AND I have NEVER been treated this way by any other complaint I have made to a business. He should have apologized and held his tongue if he thought I was wrong or said it in a more mature manner. People leave way crappier reviews on Yelp for stupider reasons and its their to right because this is a place for OPINIONS. Not only did he bash me on the review response in an unprofessional manner, he ALSO messaged me PRIVATELY to further intimidate me. He said I should have called him first before I posted my review. He said I should have been more careful with what I purchased from his own store. Blaming the customer and intimidating them is NOT the way to run a small business. I recently purchased a click-clack couch from this consignment store. I'm not sure if I was sent home with the exact one I picked out for myself... when I got it home I realized it was put together incorrectly. I called the store and emailed pictures to confirm that this was the case. The response that I got was "sorry" and I was told to just fix it myself. No offer for assistance. If I wanted to put stuff together myself I would've gone to Ikea. Overall though I love browsing through this store. They have an amazing selection of furniture. Lots of unique pieces and a variety of styles and price points. I just wish that my first purchase had been a better experience. read more

Really wanted to like this place! Came out on Wednesday and found a chair I liked, but the sign clearly stated that All Sales are Final And No Returns Allowed, so I needed to make sure I loved it before I bought it. Called on Saturday and reserved two of them. When they called back to confirm they had the chairs in stock they told me that SURPRISE! They had raised the price $100 on EACH chair!! I went in to discuss in person and spoke with the owner and even showed him a picture of the tag! I was about to buy a sofa and a lamp as well, but I was so turned off by the owners unwillingness to honor the agreed upon price that I left empty handed! I went to a few furniture stores before coming here when I was couch shopping. I stayed here for what felt like hours and sat on every couch in the store, but ended up going with the very first couch I sat on. It was the perfect firmness/softness for me, and seemed to be sturdy enough. It was around $1000, which is a bit pricey considering that the employees didn't know the construction details of the couch (the seller is a couch manufacturer that sells custom made couches on consignment if things don't work out with the original buyer, or they made a mistake), it is was so comfy that I bought it anyway. I didn't know I liked furniture stores... until I first walked into this place. Ballard Consignment is a neighborhood staple that is loved by newcomers and locals alike. With a tremendous collection of furniture for any room or space, Ballard Consignment's collection includes vintage, midcentury, antique, modern, and any style in between. In one corner, a manly leather sofa sits under a set of antlers. A globe and record player are close by. In another, a white shag rug sets the space for one of those futuristic egg-shaped chairs and other eye-catching, contemporary pieces that can make your dining room look like the milk bar from A Clockwork Orange. The folks who run the store are unbelievably helpful, and are willing to negotiate prices within a small window. Ricardo has been an excellent listener, a huge source of positivity, and an overall expert amidst the stress of my recent move. He is friendly and unbelievably helpful, using his good eye to match pieces and help me create my new home. My close friend had a similar experience with Ricardo and several others at the store. I just bought two armchairs yesterday that were each labeled " Leather" by the store.. When they were delivered today, I had to flip them over to remove packaging around the base. I discovered labels that said that the "leather" covering was "Made in China - 100% polyester." ***Ballard Consignment responds to Yelp reviews, so it will be interesting to see how they react to my beef.*** Update: Here is the private message I got from Victor G of Ballard Consignment. "Real asshole move. There isn't enough room to write bonded leather on our tags. Yelp review is the worst you could do. You played your hand. Glad to be rid of you" WTF!??!! Victor G. you're clearly overdue for a reality check - polyester and vinyl are NOT leather. Educate yourself brother. You say you didn't have enough room on your tags to write "Bonded Leather?" Yet you had plenty of room to label it as a "Stone Leather Glider." What gives with that BS? You must have had success with lying or you wouldn't do it so often. Nice try to shame me for my review by calling me childish, inappropriate and an asshole for pointing out your false advertising. Next time try responding to unhappy customers who review your shoddy business with some attempt at understanding before going off the deep end. It will work out better for you. While I'm sure some folks have had different experiences, I can only speak to my own. My husband and I have just moved here and were looking for decent furniture at a good price. I tried ordering things online and that was the biggest mistake. Waste of time and money. After reading a bunch of reviews, we decided to come in and see for ourselves. What an eclectic and interesting store! Loved walking through and seeing all the different items available. I can definitely say if you're looking for an interesting statement piece in your house, you'll find it here. Animal skull? Check. Fur rug? Check. Table chairs? Check. Austin Powers board game? Check. We found a dresser we loved. Not only was it already assembled, it was sturdy and well made. I saw the price tag and was a bit overwhelmed by the price, but was told by an associate that we could make an offer. After making an offer, they countered and we accepted. At the end of the day, we ended up only paying a smidge more over the crappier piece we bought online. Our positive was super positive and I anticipate we will be back again should we need anything else. They do work with a local delivery company should you need help getting stuff back to your place, which is a huge plus! :) read more

Huge amount of inventory, not rock bottom prices but good quality at fair prices. The staff is very helpful and you have a week to pick it up. Place is large and the have a great selection of styles. We called about a couch (awesome leather sofa) on their website that was "in excellent condition". The salesperson who answered said it was, in fact, "in mint condition". When we picked it up and put cushions in the cab of the truck I realized that it was a brand new (cheaply made) couch. We literally drove a half mile down the road before we decided to turn around and take it back. Their response : "Once the item leaves the store, there is nothing we can do." Of course. BEWARE -- this store rips you off! I wanted to pick up an item that hadn't sold so I could give it to charity. However, it could not be found and it became my problem, not theirs. I was told it was my responsibility to find the item if it hadn't been stolen. Then, when it couldn't be found, I was told I was supposed to have insurance for the item. More variety, decent quality, good prices, and courteous staff This is a large, two-story consignment store that carries new and excellent-condition used items for the home, including furniture, area rugs, artwork, lamps, and various intriguing knick-knacks. I've enjoyed browsing this store several times over the past several years, and finally bought something last week--a sofa! I had been looking for a turquoise sofa for my small living room, and they happened to have one for just under $500! The staff were were attentive, asking if they could help, but did not pressure me and gave me plenty of space as I browsed, considering whether I would buy the sofa. They do not deliver, and I ended up renting a small van to get my purchase home. I was hoping the sofa might fit in the back of my hatchback, and the sweet young men gamely tried to put it in there for me, even though I'm sure they knew it wouldn't fit. They did not act at all annoyed, and I appreciated that very much. The next morning, two other courteous young men loaded my sofa into the rented van. I've had my sofa a week now, and am very happy to have exactly what I wanted, for a fair price. read more

There are some great things about this place, and some less. The folks working here were great and you can't beat the eclectic selection. We ended up with a great dining table and chairs. But the sectional we bought was of poor quality. It lasted all of six months before really showing some wear and tear. Then again we got a stellar table out of it and a decent dresser. Their furniture, clocks and chotchkes are faintly mid -century modern. Aaron is my favorite manager, because he will take as much time as you need and wants to see you satisfied. Also,you can make an offer. A little secret :you can easily get 15% just for the offering. Haggle with Joey, the eccentric, mercurial owner. I have spent about $3000 so far. The artwork they're selling is mostly tacky. Oh: if you're wheelchair bound,like me, this store is a nightmare to navigate. They could easily put non-ADA ramps o n the Leary Avenue side. It would not be fair to ask them to put an elevator to the 2nd floor...way too expensive and the building is pre-1995. I practically bought 90 % of my furniture there. The owner of this store is one of the thickest people I've ever met. If he makes a mistake he will not admit he is wrong even when presented with hard facts, nor will he try and make it right. Where I'm from whether you're a business or a person, if you wrong someone you try to fix it. I will never go to this store again, not worth the time, energy and effort. First of all parking is a nightmare. Unlike the Greenwood store there is no parking here which is very inconvenient for a furniture store. Once inside the store is quite nice. Many of the prices are higher than I think is reasonable but they have a nice selection. I prefer their Greenwood location (The Furniture Guy) to this one but it's worth taking a look here if you're in the market for used furniture. They do take offers. read more

Mid-century Modern Mausoleum. This place is amazing. I call it "The Mausoleum" because of the first time I ventured in there. It was a time just after the rapid start of gentrification of Ballard, as the Ballard Landmark (assisted living) was opening up down the block. I realized after walking through the well-curated and themed living rooms, showcasing some of the best and worst of mid-20th century design, that these living rooms and tchotchke filled cabinets could very well be the former living rooms of the now warehoused elders just down the block. I caught sight of trinkets from the 1964 New York World's Fair, just like my grandparents' had in their living room. The awe turned to sadness, as I realized this was a shop filled with things left behind by over-burdened children, or seniors unable to take these souvenirs with them to their smaller efficiencies. These are what has been left behind for the new, younger Ballard residents to purchase and fill their luxury apartments. The staff is largely available to help, but not intrusive. The store is pretty well organized, and overall, if you come in looking for something specific, I find things are fairly easy to find. This is one part consignment, one part curiosity shop. When in Ballard, this is definitely a place to come in and browse, and maybe leave with a few mementos of days gone by. read more

This place is sooooo sweet. I can wander around in here for a solid hour, pretty much ogling every thing that my eye scans. So many amazing items its actually a bit overwhelming. They even have full rooms set up, somewhat thematically, which are fun to just chill in and pretend they are your actual rooms in your house, and you have strange and impeccable and trendy and cluttered taste. Someday when I'm rich I'll deck out an entire abode with items from this place, for now I just buy the occasional decorative piece. read more

I'm tickled pink with the small houseful of furniture I got at Ballard Consignment after my recent move from DC. The place has an impressively eclectic array of furnishings for every room of the house, ranging from unique antique pieces in great shape to recently crafted artisan pieces of extraordinary quality (check out the beautiful wood dining tables on the upper floor--rock solid and to die for). I got a couple of showstoppers and have to say that the staff handled my frenetic half-day shopping spree with aplomb. Take a stroll through the store the next time you're in Ballard. Their saying is "like your grandmas house... only cooler" and I feel like that just says it's all! Such a fun place to go to browse around especially when trying to furnish a house. They have new stuff literally everyday and probably every two months or so it's like the store is completely new. My husband and I spend so much time there the staff probably thinks we're crazy tbh. You'll find lots of cool modern/contemporary/vintage things, the price point sometimes seems a little high for what it is but we're always happy with the purchase! If you see something you like though, def grab it up ASAP because we've been bummed a few times waiting to go look at things in person to only find out it's sold :( read more
