Our waiter was able to speak English and that helped a lot. Menus was both German and English again making it easy for us. The special menu had tune tartare and it was very good. I added a combination of oysters that were delicious. Then main menu of salmon for my wife and lobster with spaghetti and lobster bisque sauce was wonderful. No room for desert but had caffeine free cappuccinos that were very good.

So, our group of 10 booked a private guide and drivers and set out. After the initial drive and some touring, we needed lunch and our guide took us to Gendarmerie. First off, it is one of the coolest restaurants inside that I have ever seen. The large piece of art that stretches the width of the restaurant is outstanding and eye catching. There are also replica pieces of the Berlin wall used as art and a series of giant portraits of famous German actors and actresses along with John F. Kennedy. Strange combination. We were seated at a long table. Our server was excellent and very entertaining for this table full of Americans. I can only speak of the two dishes that my wife and I ordered. I had the fried pike-perch fillet, but it was served on fresh local white asparagus which was in season and highly recommended. I can say without question that it was the largest asparagus I have ever seen in my life. Full of flavor with a sauce on the side. Trouble with it was that there was too much and much of it was quite tough. I prefer my asparagus thin not tree trunks. The fish was good but a bit dry so the sauce was welcome. My wife had Konigsberger meatballs with red beetroot and mashed potatoes all in a cream sauce. They are not shy about their sauces here as the photos indicate. But, the meal was very good. At the end, knowing we wanted to divide the check, the server merely had us come to the counter a couple at a time and simply tell him what we had to eat. It all added up so we were good. End review is that it was a great location, but the food was not outstanding at all. If given a greater scale, the review would be a solid 3.5.

It's nearly midnight on a Friday night and I came up on this place for a late dinner (sober as a nun, by the way, as I was sitting at my office nearby all night working American hours). It turns out this place makes a mind blowing good doner kebab, and I mean really monumental. Get the one with the feta cheese. It'll toast your noodle.

Though the shop is small, they do have tables nearby for those needing to take a break from the crowd or just step away. The duo running the shop was efficient and respectful of the customers - taking their time to understand english-only speakers like myself. The food itself was affordable in the context of quality and quantity. I ordered a döner kebap with everything topped into it including sauces. Upon biting into their döner kebap, you can sense the freshness of all the vegetables and cooked meat. The food's combined mouthful was sensational given the vegetable's fresh crunch, the bread's fluffy chew, and the meat's succulence. The only critique that I do have is that the döner kebap that I ate did not have as much flavor as I have anticipating. The delicious smell of it did not match the flavor experience unfortunately for me - I hope this was a one off thing. Overall, I would give this place another shot - I hope others have a better experience than me!

We arrived around 5:00 pm but since we had no reservation, the host informed us we would have only one hour to enjoy our meal before we had to leave. I speak only for myself as i was disappointed in my meal. I do not read German so had difficulty determining what I might want to eat. Our friend said no English menus were provided, so I decided on Vienna Breaded Chicken and salad with a lemon vinaigrette dressing (26,50 €). My plate arrived with three pieces of heavily breaded crispy chicken strips, a lemon wedge and a small bowl with butter lettuce coated with tasty dressing. The chicken, however, was dry and required a knife to cut through it. In the U.S., such chicken strips one might find at a fast-food restaurant like KFC and would come with a dipping sauce to heighten the taste. Fortunately my companions had no complaints about their food, so I'm supposing I simply ordered the wrong offering for my taste and the cost for such a simple meal.

The Brandenburg duck arrived looking like it knew exactly how good it was. Perfectly cooked, glistening, and confidently posed beside lush red cabbage, a tender dumpling, and a half caramelized apple that leaned in like it had a secret. One bite of the duck and--oh yes--succulent, rich, and finished with skin so perfectly crisp it crackled ever so slightly before melting away. Pure seduction on a plate. Our waiter was attentive in that smooth, unhurried way--patient and charming as I ordered in English, never rushing, always present at just the right moment. The kind of service that makes you linger longer than planned. The atmosphere? Romantic without trying too hard. Candlelit energy, soft murmurs, and the kind of elegance that invites close conversation and another glass of wine. Reservations after 6:00 pm are absolutely necessary--this place doesn't stay a secret for long. Lutter & Wegner doesn't just feed you... it flirts with you.
