We came here after having been turned away by an Indonesian restaurant that was "full for the night". We are so glad that fate brought us here instead of that Indonesian restaurant!! What were we even thinking anyway --forget the Indonesian food, get the local specialities!! Ordered the schnitzel as well as the meatballs and both were executed perfectly. Schnitzel was hot and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside -- not overly salty either. Meatballs were juicy and packed with flavor from the minced onions that they had mixed in. The beer (we ordered a Pilsner) was the best that we had tried in all of the Berlin and Dresden restaurants that we visited. I believe it is from some small private brewery affiliated with the restaurant somehow. Whatever they are doing, they are doing it right, so definitely order the house beer. Super cozy seating (you'll probably be sharing a table with other guests) and packed all night long but amazing vibes and casual comfort food. Would come back if I ever visit Berlin again!

The pig knuckle which was what I came for was excellent! Super tender and flavorful with unctuous fatty goodness. It paired excellent with mustard and a slightly sweet sauerkraut. Also tried their Hackethals lager which was very good a dark and slightly sweet caramelized lager and also a foussebasse (lemonade soda kind of drink). The apple streudel was ok, nice apple and pretty presentation, but flavor was just ok for me. Really pleasant dinner in a very cute pub and really excellent staff. Loved it! It was within walking distance from the hotel, and good reviews convinced us to give it a try. We arrived just before the kitchen closed, but they greeted us graciously and sat us for dinner. Food was outstanding, but that was only the beginning. After our meal of sausages followed by desert and accompanied with their own beer, we sat a while longer and met the owners Frank and Nils, and a couple of regulars, Andrea and Anton. Our night of a quick dinner turned into an evening of great conversation and drinks with new friends. This was a fantastic evening, made only better by Frank offering us taste tests of the sauce he was preparing for the next days venison. OUTSTANDING! DO NOT pass this up. And say hello to Frank and Nils from me.

I loved the classy ambiance, but found the establishment very child-friendly. We were given bread with several decadent spreads to start with, followed by an amuse-bouche of mushrooms and a plum dumpling. Outstanding! For our tapas, we ordered the soup of the day, a carrot salad, potato gratin, schnitzel, meatball with sauerkraut, salmon and spinach rolls. The standouts being the potatoes and the salmon rolls, while the others were decent. We also ordered one of the flammekuchen, which was fantastic. We were worried that it might not be enough food, but it turned out to be too much and we ended up carrying home a doggie bag. The food at Restaurant Die Schule was very tasty, but the highlight of the evening truly was our server, Nico, who was so attentive and kind. And his suggestions were spot-on. I have already suggested this place to my friends in Berlin.
