It's an old charm kind of a shop. Quiet and have free WiFi even though the place is not optimized for long period working but you can go enjoy good coffee with award winning nata pastel while you are at it. €5.50 for 6 pastel is pretty great. There food menu is small, breakfast menu is mostly omelette

Horrible food- greasy fish surrounded by limp chips. Took forever. Clearly were taking advantage of non natives. Our only bad meal in Lisbon.

My boss loves pastel de nata and we were on a mission to eat them every chance we had. He found this little cafe and we walked on over. This place is classic, beautiful chandeliers in the ceiling, mirrors on the walls, gold trimmings. You can either order and eat at the counter or you can get a table. We opted for a table which was great because we were able to look at the menu in English. There is a case full of all different kinds of pastries as well. We ended up getting two different kinds of breads and a pastel de nata and two Americanos. The pan de deus was my favorite with the sugar on top. The bread was airy and fluffy and delicious when dipped into the coffee. Service was fast and the place was clean.

Based on the items I ordered, everything was just passable. Maybe I'm not really appreciating the difference in textures between similar pastries in different countries, but even compared to several other bakeries and cafes in Lisbon, this was my least favorite. (Overall outside of pasteis de nata, I found pastries and baked goods in Portugal to be a bit drier, breadier, and sweeter than some other countries.) The chocolate croissant I ordered used melted chocolate sprinkles on top and inside, and the bread was laminated on the outside but kinda dense and dry on the inside, no airy pockets, just bready. The palmier tasted a bit stale, like when a crispy cookie has been sitting out and softened. The croquettes were average. The espresso was pretty normal. I sat outside since it was a nice day, they had a number of tables and patrons dining outside. They seemed to be understaffed bc it took a while for the server to come out and take my order, though the food came pretty quickly once ordered. Inside it's a very old-school feel, very ornate with many mirrors and liquor shelves along the wall. Not sure about prices now though will say in 2022 they were very reasonable.

That is exactly the "good" problem Landeau has as besides their famous chocolate cake, all they have are beverages, inadvertently making their sign outside with the proclamation "When in doubt, try chocolate cake!" kind of hilarious. Once you've huffed and puffed your way up one of Lisbon's stairmaster hills, the darkened and vintage feeling interior of this particular Landeau feels very welcome. Although there is ample seating for the size of this store, the ample line of people waiting to get in from the outside might make getting a seat difficult nonetheless. I do like the regular lattes here but let's face it, any beverage you get here is really meant to be a sidekick to the main star of the show, Landeau's famous chocolate cake. And it is indeed, the best slice of chocolate cake you'll ever have, and that is not hyperbole. Layered and textured, but pillowy and light, it's really difficult to describe what a beautiful heavenly experience eating a chocolate cake at Landeau is. It's like treating your mouth to the most sumptuous and comforting experience it's ever going to have when eating something and you never want to end. And for under 5 euros, it almost feels like a steal. I really do consider going to a Landeau one of the highlights of my trip to Lisbon and urge everyone to put it on their must eats here. Even yes, over the egg tarts.

The crust was super flaky and the tart was nice and warm out of the oven, but I didn't like the flavor of the custard. I did forget to add cinnamon to the top, but I don't think it would have helped me personally. The woman who stood next to me at the counter had a nearly orgasmic experience next to me, so it's obvious that my taste buds are apparently off. I loved the patience of the server, who got confused when I told her I wanted to eat in but wanted to take water to go. Note to self...Portuguese folks want to have their "to go" as "takeaway." What I also didn't know was that there was no place to sit!! I scooted down the counter just like all the other folks to watch the bakers prep the next gozillion pastries for the day. That was interesting. Then, I didn't know how to bus my dishes. I just left them on the counter like all the other folks and went away. I wouldn't skip going because of my personal taste buds, though. Enjoy it for yourself and let me know if you have a different opinion than I did!

I had been here about fifteen years ago on a solo trip when I waited in an endless queue for a takeout order. That same line still existed a couple of weeks ago when Jamie W and I visited on my return to Lisbon. This time, we decided to try the dine-in option which I wasn't even aware of until I saw a YouTube video from a travel vlogger who recommended it. Sure enough, the line was a lot shorter and moved quite a bit faster. It turned out they serve up to 400 people in an expansive dining room. The menu goes beyond the pastels and offers croquettes, salt cod fritters, various sandwiches, and other pastries. Of course we ordered the 1,6€ Pasteis de Belem. Four of them (Photo 6). Based on a secret recipe dating back to 1837, they compare favorably to the multitude of competitors, even Manteigaria, whose shops appear almost everywhere in Lisbon. The custard filling is creamy but not excessive and it's not overly sweetened. The standout is the thick and flaky crust, tender with a touch of salt. The 2€ Iced Coffees with Milk was a nice complement. Since we didn't have time to get lunch while sauntering through Belem, we decided to take advantage of their cafe menu and each ordered the 3,9€ Tuna and Mayo with Boiled Egg and Lettuce on Mixed Wheat Toast (Photo 9). I know it sounds simple, but it satisfied much like the kombini sandos in Tokyo. Totally worthy of my 8,000 milestone. This means I can now say who made them best, and more importantly, why. The interesting thing is, I didn't think the pastel de nata here were particularly great, on any dimension - fairly flimsy, doughy crust, with a pudding-like, drippy filling that was too sweet and not quite eggy enough. Don't get me wrong, I'd still eat them any time someone offered, they were still tasty, you just have a ton of options nearby, some of them notably better than the ones here. I also tried one of their fancy-looking cookies, which definitely looked fancier than it tasted. Was just a cookie. Dessert-wise I was unimpressed. They were also always fairly busy, which made ordering feel a bit rushed. So why am I still giving this bakery 5 stars, and why did I come back here a couple more times, including to get food to-go the morning we left, to get food to take on the plane with us? For exactly one reason, and it's a weird one: oddly enough, the samosas here are the best samosas I've ever had, and by a wide margin. You'd think the best samosas ever would come from an Indian restaurant or bakery, but nope, they're here. The other small savory food items we tried were also pretty good, but the samosas are the juiciest, meatiest, most perfectly bursting with spices samosas I've had. Who knew? They also had pretty solid espresso and pretty solid free-squeezed orange juice, but those aren't hard to find in Portugal (I miss seeing inexpensive fresh squeezed OJ all over the city... especially *truly* fresh squeezed, to order, from whole oranges. Portuguese OJ definitely was the best. Though obviously not *better* than other places you can get the same thing around - probably indeed the same oranges. Definitely better than anywhere you can get fresh OJ for a few bucks in the US, though, if you can find such a place. :p)

Which, as it turns out, I can't - this one would be in a 3-4 way tie for 1st, with other, equally perfect places to get one. Funny enough, they do sell a decent number of other pastries that are pretty fancy looking, and have price tags to match (higher than other bakeries in town, or at least the ones I went to.) But I wasn't here for those, and if you're smart, you won't be either. Their pastel de nata are, or at least were as of ~3 months ago, 1.50 euro, which is very reasonable, especially for how good they are. Perfect crust, crunchy but not crumbly or dry, perfectly balanced, not overly sweet, eggy custard that stays intact after biting into it instead of falling out like pudding... and the perfect, marshmallow-y crème brulee torched finish. Great cortado, too, and very reasonably priced. It was fairly busy, but there was also a decent amount of space to stand and drink a cortado inside without feeling cramped (which was good, since at that specific time I was here, right when I got inside, it started pouring rain.)
