I used to love this place. Min, a really sweet Chinese woman used to work there every day. She worked her butt off and would sing (practicing Chinese opera completely out of tune) while she was working. It was so endearing. The new owners have it close earlier which I have finally adjusted (10 pm instead of 11pm) but they always act mean about it when people forget the hours... and it's so silly because these hours listed on yelp, still do not reflect their actual hours. There is a giant sign on the wall that says "last wash at 9pm". So tonight I put my clothes in at 9pm and got back at 10pm to put them in the dryer. There was an older Chinese woman there signaling for me to go away but I told her I need to put my clothes in the dryer ..(she didn't speak English but she's filling me around trying to get me to leave) She calls someone on the phone and the two other younger Chinese couple Christina and her husband (brother?) show up. Clearly they have been sent to translate. As I'm putting my clothes in the dryer Christina (the only one who speaks a word of English) angrily try's to get me to stop. I say to her: "look, I'm not gonna leave my clothes over night, wet. I can't allow my clothes to get mold. Now, I understand you close at 10pm, but it is literally 10:01pm and I'm just asking for 30 seconds to be able to put some quarters in the dryer. I will come in the morning to get them" She still protests, tells me it cannot be done. At this time the male worker and the old lady are yelling at each other in Mandarin.. I turn to Christina, "look, if this is really that big of a deal to you can I pay you for the extra 1 min.. $5, $10, $20 what feels fair?" She ignores my offer. At this point I have already put my quarters in and the machine is running and the male worker stands in my way from being able to leave and starts yelling in Mandarin ( I don't understand what he is saying but I wait for him to finish and go around.. I almost have to exit a different way) Long story short, I pay you guys at least $50 a month to do my own laundry here... Please lighten up and act more professional. I will be happy to change my review if you do. read more

We started using their wash & fold service when our apartment building's washers and dryers were out of service over a year ago and never stopped. Super super friendly staff. They recognize my husband and I now and sometimes even help us with carrying our laundry bags in. Reasonable prices if you're already paying for coin laundry, plus we save so time getting it folded as well. Highly recommend, esp if you're busy or always fighting with your partner over who's turn it is to wash and fold the laundry haha read more

I am humbled and amazed at the generosity of some people. I wasn't even supposed to be here. I have laundry facilities on site, so the only thing to get me out was a laundry date. We chose Clean X-Press because of magic formula: put your dirty/clean linens to wash/dry, walk to Java Cat for a coffee or eat a quick roll @ Sushi Bistro or simply window shop and peer into Frankenart. The point being, there's plenty to multi-task with. On the way out, I dropped a Benjamin on the floor without noticing. Most people would have seen 100 opportunities and reasons not to tell me, but the beautiful, kind, woman that worked there went up to me and returned it. WOW! Really?! I quickly went out to break the money and returned to try to give her $20 as a reward, but she wasn't having any of it. Her hands, strong from folding thousands of shirts, clasped gently around my daily moisturized girly geek fingers and a smile beamed from her face stronger than a bluetooth connection. "Just keep coming back and tell your friends," she uttered in broken English. And hence, this post. Thank you, Clean X-Press. Me happy. read more

So this was my first experience with Wash-and-Fold, and I was a little nervous: I had included a new, soft white sweater in the mix, and, in a moment of cheap stupidity, had told the woman behind the counter NOT to separate my whites and darks. What was I thinking? Sure enough, when I got my laundry back, my new white sweater was stained. There were a few light blue markings on it from a pair of colored jeans. Upset -- this is my current favorite sweater, after all -- I took it back. Calmly and gently, the woman told me that that was why she had asked me if I wanted my whites and darks separated. She then told me how to get it out: hot, hot water and a little soap. Scrub it together with your fingers. I was all set to do that, and ready to go home, feeling a little sad but like things could maybe still be fixed. Then -- lo and behold! -- she grabbed my sweater and disappeared into a back room. When she reemerged, she had dunked my sweater into a small bucket of hot water. She took 15 minutes to get all the stains out for me. She is a goddess, and I'll go there forever. read more

I brought in a sweater for dry cleaning, one I'd almost destroyed because I was cheap and ignored the "DRY CLEAN ONLY" label. The sweater was fuzzy (it was NOT supposed to be fuzzy) and misshapen. The woman took one look at it and actually said she wouldn't take it. What kind of person refuses service?!! An honest one, to my surprise. She was refusing it, she explained, because she wasn't sure she could fix the sweater and was actually pretty positive she couldn't do anything for me at all. She didn't want to charge me for something she already knew she couldn't help with. I thought that was the most awesome service. I convinced her to dry clean the sweater for me anyway, basically begging her to help me. I understood it wouldn't be like it was brand new but as long as it was wearable, I would be happy. A week later, I picked up my sweater. She remembered me and pulled it out of the plastic wrap to show me that while it was still a bit fuzzy, it was fuzzy like mohair which was acceptable, and it was back to its normal shape. Wohoo! I thanked her profusely. This is definitely my dry cleaner of choice from now on. read more

Came here because the coin laundry near my house is closed by remodeling. Here the washer is more expensive like 50 cent more but the load is smaller. (Front load washer seems smaller than the up load one.) The reason I gave it 3 stars because the dryer is shabby. They only have high and low heat option. I chose high heat and set them the same amount of time with same amount of clothes I used to dry my clothes in other laundry place. It turned out my clothes are still a bit wet not complete dry! (I chose medium heat in other place!) Be aware the setting if you have more clothes! read more

I've Ben coming Tony his place for years. I appreciated that it's owner operated, pretty clean and the pricing is fair. I walk 10 blocks, past three other places to get here. But, the owners, their close friends and family are very selective about customer appreciation. One woman is friendly to everyone. She works with her headphones singing opera. She's a really nice and happy person. Everyone else is pretty rude. I get the side eye, or stared at when they don't remember that I can see them behind me in the reflection of the dryer door. If I ask a question the answers, if any, are abrupt. I haven't done anything differently. But, I think it's time for me to take my time and money elsewhere. What can I say this is my dog's favorite restaurant! Seriously, every time we come in or even if we just walk by, the wonderful woman who runs this place feeds our dog a mix of pork, cabbage, and rice that he goes CRAZY for. We can barely walk by now without him pulling to go visit her. In case you don't have a dog, this place is also awesome to drop off laundry for by the pound wash-and-fold. I LOVE this laundromat and dry cleaner!! I echo what Amy O. wrote about Ming, the owner, who refused to dry clean that sweater. Ming has said the same to me---and thank God for honest service! One time Ming repaired a hole in one of my sweaters to be dry cleaned, and she did it for free and on the spot! I didn't even ask. Another time she noticed I put my laundry on the wrong wash setting, and she stopped me to explain how the setting I put would not wash my clothes well, and I'd have to do it twice. She also does an excellent job at washing and folding your clothes, and for a decent price...79 cents a pound. That's not all...it's ALWAYS clean and bright there. Most of the other places in the neighborhood are really neglected. Balboa Clean X-Press is the best! Hands down. read more

This was my first wash and fold experience.... Let me start off by saying... my washer/dryer broke in my apartment and I have been meaning to fix it but...but..what can I say? I also had a little camping trip style party to go to this past weekend and I had to leave by Friday afternoon... So...Thursday I decide that the laundry that has been piling up for like three weeks must be done before I can go...but alas....I had school all day and no time to sit at the laundro mat for hours so I decided to find a wash and fold type place.....and this is the place I decided on...thankfully... my experience was pretty awesome 1. dropped off my laundry at around 5pm on Thursday and I got it back Friday at 11:30 am. 2. everything was perfectly folded/...PERFECTLY...all the socks matched and even my undies were folded... 3. The little lady working there is super cute. 4. It only cost me $9 and change to do all my laundry. I had at least two loads so considering how much I would have spent in quarters...wow...amazing times! Highly recommend!! read more

Giving this place 5 stars because none of the washing machines smell! It's like hitting gold considering how many laundromat s I've been to where the washing machines smell moldy or stale. There's also seating and plenty of folding space which is nice. The dryers are powerful and can dry a lot for less than a dollar. read more

This place suuuuuuucked. Don't go there for coin laundry. So clearly I got the day when the male owner was working and not awesome Ming. Cute dog was there. Tried this place based on great Yelp reviews. This is a negative coin laundry review, not for wash and fold. No experience with W&F. Based on my experience there, you would be better off using another coin laundry and not waste your money on broken dryers and bad customer service. My washer is broken and the kids' laundry was piling up rapidly, so off I went to the neighborhood coin op laundromat. Totally empty on a Thursday morning, which says something. While loading 6 machines (4 x 2.75 and 2 x 4.75) the male owner (?) grumbled past me while I said pleasant hellos as it was my first time here. Asked him where to put baskets while I went out during the dry cycle to run an errand -- he pointed to the hardest to reach spot and grunted. When I came back, I found that one of two identical loads in the large dryers ($.25/6 min vs. $.25/7min), which had gone for 36 minutes, was completely wet and cold. The other was dry and hot. I loaded the cold load into the hot dryer and mentioned it to the owner -- and wasn't even intending to ask for credit. He put new coins in the hot dryer and said he didn't know what was wrong. He asked how long I had dried it -- I said 36 minutes and he told me it wasn't enough. I politely said I thought one was getting hot and the other wasn't (stating the obvious) and 36 minutes was more than enough for the same load -- he said it wasn't broken and turned his back. Hmmmm, defensive much? I then unloaded the other four loads (42 mins each in the smaller dryers) and found the same situation -- some dryers worked and others were wet and cold. I politely mentioned this again to the owner and said I thought some of the dryers weren't getting hot. He shot back and said none of them were broken. The exchange went very poorly from there. I wasn't asking him for refund money, just politely suggesting that he look into why some dryers were hot -- since one of the things that makes doing coin-op laundry a huge drag is inconsistency of dryers. He told me to leave and not come back, I resisted the temptation to just rant, and again politely suggested that as a fellow small business owner, I was trying to help and that just acknowledging me and trying to make it right would go a long way to keeping me as a customer -- since I lived in the neighborhood and this was my first time. He told me to not come back. So I packed up my stuff and promised that I would write a Yelp review today and do my best to keep other people from making the same mistake I did in using his business. This morning, I was doing my laundry in 601 Balboa, as I have done for the last 8 years. I closed the doors because it was freezing cold. As soon as the owner noticed that I closed the doors, he came stomping and yelling at me "Why are you closing my doors!" I told him that I was very cold to which he responded by widely opening the doors and continue yelling. I told him "Don't you talk to me like that" and that was it. I finished my laundry and I left. He was so violent and rude that I am still shaking. The lady who owns this business has always been extremely nice and polite to me. She is always singing and cleaning the place and helping you if you need anything. The place is clean, some machines are usually broken but nothing awful. He can be a little stingy when you ask him to give you back your money when you have used one of his broken dryers that don't have a sign saying that they are broken. If anyone has a recommendation for a good and nice laundromat in the neighborhood I would really appreciate it. Have a good holiday. read more

I don't think of myself as someone flush with cash, but for the extra like $5 or so I spend a week to get wash-n-fold over doing it myself, well... that's a luxury I'm ok with. And they do wash-n-fold well here. DONT GO HERE!! They lost a whole bag of my boyfriends and my clothing. When we went back to talk to her she just said it wasn't her fault. And kept insisting we only brought 1 bag in (we brought 2). When I had her look up her log book it showed we brought 50lbs so she finally admitted we brought two but said she gave us everything. After arguing for a few minutes she was completely unapologetic and rude and told me there was nothing she could do. Worst part is we had been bringing our laundry there for a while now and she didn't care at all about loyalty to her customers. I would have at least liked an apology and an offer of how she could fix it instead of being yelled at in Chinese. And now I'm out of a bunch of clothes. Please don't go here. read more

Since I just panned another wash and fold, I feel like I should praise a good one. Decent prices, convenient hours, nice folding, paired socks, and optional fabric softener. The clothes come back in clear plastic bags instead of bundled tightly in blue paper, but ultimately I don't choose a wash and fold based on the wrapping. I've been to three wash and folds in the inner Richmond, and this one's my fave. read more
