Royal City Community Fitness

Awesome! The very fact that you've reached this review means that you're considering CrossFit…read more That's amazing. Don't worry, it's really not scary, and you can start no matter your age, weight, or fitness level. Everyone at Royal City CrossFit is behind you 100 per cent. I don't just mean the excellent ownership, nutritionists, and coaches, but the other members too. This is a fantastic community that is dedicated to making you a better version of yourself. I've been attending Royal City for nearly 2 years now, and I'll never again look to a commercial gym for wellness. Let's be fair, when you first walk in it can feel a little intimidating. The music is playing and there are probably some people sweating throwing some dumbbells overhead. You'll also be greeted by some friendly members, and welcoming staff. Everything you see happening on the floor can be scaled to your abilities, and like me, you can start right at the bottom. There is no judgement here, and you'll soon be in those classes getting cheered on by your new CrossFit family. Friendship, community, fitness, and nutrition. Royal City CrossFit has it all. Please come by for a visit, I'd love to see you there. Look for the guy that looks like a younger, fitter Santa (okay, in fairness I'm not as Jolly but I have a big beard) and don't be afraid to say hi!

This gym is the perfect place for me. I'm a private and conservative guy, and I love how small and…read moreuncrowded this place is. The private showers and change rooms are hotel-quality while the staff are friendly and approachable. The equipment is modern and top-of-the-line, and while you get the odd muscle freak grunting and groaning and intimidating all the other users with death stares, this is going to happen anywhere and in no way reflects poorly on the gym Its the same price as Goodlife or the Y, but the private showers and change rooms give it an edge, making it the best gym in Guelph!

Terrible experience at this gym. I joined in January after receiving a lot of pressure from the…read moremanager I spoke with. I would told if I moved I could cancel the membership since I explained I was a student living in Guelph at the time and wouldn't be staying there after graduation. 6 months later (and using the gym about 3 times) I went in to try to cancel my membership. I was told that since I used my parents address to sign up (even thought I was living in student housing in Guelph at the time) I was not legally changing my address. So I am now stuck paying a gym membership for a gym that isn't even in the city I am currently living in as a student with no real source of income. This is by far the worst experience I have ever had with a gym. I have been part of many gyms and have never had any issue cancelling my membership. I am disgusted in the owners and managements way of handling my situation in a rude manner. I will never recommend Anytime Fitness to anyone (especially this location).

When i first signed up to this gym, it was a quick run through of the facilities, appeared to be…read moreclean that day and have all i needed to train with on my off days with my trainer. It was referred to me as a great place and price to go to for the weight training i do. Now that' I've been there for half a year, i'll say I'm sadly disappointed in the way the gym is kept, not so clean, half the machines are ripped, dirty, and it is missing a good set of proper weight sizes under 50lbs (i.e. there is ONE singular 15lb weight in the whole gym), it needs a wee refresh. It would be nice if there was music playing or ability to access wifi for our fitness apps as well. Until I can find another fitness facility to train at, i'm here but it would be great to see some changes there. Make that side room into a room for women to work out with, like the open area, though maybe have some weight racks there too for those who don't want to waste time dragging weights all over. PLEASE hire a business to come in and clean the facility more often or have the staff do it (wipe the rims of the toilets down, close off the open ceiling tiles etc) Again, not a bad place just needs some more TLC and the price you can't fight with at all.

When I signed up in early september of 2015 a friend and I had decided to do training sessions…read moretogether. After taking the classes and deciding on a trainer we were told to message the trainer on Facebook to set up session times. My messages were ignored and nothing was ever done about this. So basically we paid for training and never got it because nothing was done about the trainer not responding. This trainer still works there and nothing was ever done about this situation. Besides that situation there was an instance where a friend of mine and I were squatting and using one of the cages. A different trainer came up to us in the middle of a set and said "have you girls ever worked out before?". He then proceeded to tell us that we were facing the wrong way in the squat cage (which I know from working at a gym isn't something that matters, its all personal preference) and that we should face the other way to squat. Both my friend and I go to the gym regularly as I am an ex-competitive swimmer and she's a Jr. World Champion figure skater. We were both shocked that someone would approach us mid set asking if we knew what we were doing. Not only did that offend us, but it took a huge hit to our confidence as girls working out in a predominantly male area of the gym. As a customer service and front desk employee at a gym I can say this is a very inappropriate way to speak to members at your gym. I also find that a lot of people just come in with their friends at night and don't actually have a membership. The key FOBs also still work after a membership has been cancelled so anyone can get in free.

I would suggest you spend your money on home equipment and do a 1000x better workout than the silly ones these fake instructors create (and ya, they have quals you get in a weekend, lol - so laughable compared to what a real "Head Coach" would be required to have - thanks "RACHEL" (ya, the new Karen for 2024/25).

Hello OTF Guelph team,…read more I have been in the Ontario region for the better part of two weeks now and have had the opportunity to visit and work out at many of the OTF studios in the region. The experience has been ok, one was pretty poor in one of the studios, however last night I was luckily enough to get into the 830pm class in the OTF Guelph studio. Right away first impression blew me away, the two wonderful staff members who were working the counter were very friendly and welcoming. I felt so welcome coming into the studio. Extremely clean and well kept, to me it looked liked the studio opened up a month ago, surprised that the studio had been open for so long. Then I met the coach for my class. Jet was so full of energy and was so personable and genuine. Had a great conversation and got ready for the class. When Coach Jet was doing his prep with the group he went out of his way to recognize me as a guest from out of town and that is was my birthday as well and got the group to welcome me with a round of applause. WOW, I felt jacked up for my workout. Jet brought it. Motivating and attentive to everyone in the class, I had one of those moments that I normally get in my home studio (OTF Davie - Vancouver) where I am on the tree and the coach is pushing the group, motivating - I have a moment where I think how lucky I am to be part of a community like OTF. The city of Guelph is so lucky to have a studio like this, filled with amazing staff. Thank you for having me and I really look forward to dropping in again next time I am in the GTA. Keep on Burning!
