Like many, of course, my yoga practice grew and grew amidst the isolation of the pandemic and I am now happily obsessed with daily practice and challenging myself often. Luckily, I found Maven Yoga right as I decided I was feeling safer and ready to attend in-person classes to grow my practice. I am even LUCKIER to have this sweet little studio near home, and though I've only been attending a few weeks so far, I am SO excited to continue my practice at Maven Yoga moving forward and definitely recommend their unlimited 30-day special for anyone considering new yoga studios in their routine! I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the classes I've attended with different instructors and have found myself both challenged and relaxed after every class! I really appreciate that a sense of community seems to be a goal in this studio - the instructors, especially Kai, make it a point to make you feel seen and guided throughout class. I don't feel like just another number at this studio and feel welcomed every time I step in! The amenities are also great! A relaxing studio with big mirrors and a cool ambiance, changing rooms, showers, restrooms, and super clean - what more could you ask for? As far as Covid-19 protocols go, I felt safe and did feel that there was attention to detail in cleaning as well as safety practices during my visits - masks are worn unless you are practicing and you must show proof of vaccination/negative Covid test if you do want to practice without a mask. The class sizes are spectacular and I have felt comfortable every visit. All in all, I am so glad to have found a yoga studio to incorporate in my weekly routine and am grateful to Kai and all instructors at Maven Yoga for creating such a safe and welcoming space for yoga practice and community.

When I did return, the people who had been taking from Linda Hiller all those years, many people who were struggling to keep up back then, looked amazing. They had done the work and the results were the yoga bodies. I felt humble to be among them again. Linda Hiller isn't just a great yoga teacher, she is simply one of the best teachers I have had in any subject. She is tough, and it is all worth it. I agree with Chris R's review. I can't believe I am posting this on Yelp. But, it is a business I totally love and I cannot leave it off my list.

It seems like a person should should stumble upon Linda Hiller by some stroke of fate that has nothing to do with a website like yelp. Once there, perhaps a person realizes their good fortune because their body has been ravaged by the well-intentioned but inexperienced teachers at other yoga studios, maybe because they need an ongoing ego spanking, or maybe they just need a yoga teacher with years of experience, true depth of knowledge of the body, a lovely sense of humor and a giant benevolent Leonberger dog named Rosie who lounges in the studio and gazes serenely at them as they toil away at their practice. Linda crosses the line effortlessly back and forth between strict, alignment-oriented dominatrix, and sweet, compassionate co-conspirator on the path. She manages to be completely involved with her students, while at the same time healthily detached - clearly the result of years of attending to her own practice. Obviously her own practice has served her well, she knows intimately what she teaches for better and for worse - she has been through it all herself. And while she makes the poses look effortless, she lets you know where she comes from and where she's been, and that she is no different than you can be if you put in the time and effort. Her dedication to providing her students with an extremely challenging class experience that is accessible to all levels is unique. Bonus points for no major overt display or discussion of "spirituality", leaving a practitioner free to bring in his or her own ideas and feelings, bonus points for her husband David in class to heckle her when the going gets too tough, and bonus points for the community of regulars who inspire with their toughness and dedication. This might be the only yoga studio in Seattle that has managed to randomly pull off an all male class one Friday night. It's $20 per class for Linda's 1 1/2 hour classes which often end up going over by 15 minutes...there are no punch cards, no monthly unlimited specials, no deals. Now that most studios in Seattle charge 16 or $17 for a drop-in, and because it is such a small group that it feels like a semi-private, I would call it hands-down some of the best money I've ever spent. I have never been to any other teacher at Tulinda but Linda Hiller, and if you aren't available M, W, F nights from 5-6:30 and Sundays from noon-1:30, then I'm sorry, you'll have to find another fabulous yoga teacher. Good luck. They're out there, but teachers like this are not easy to find.

Most classes start on your back, which I love because it helps me clear my mind before class starts. My favorite instructors are Bekah, Chelsea, and Tami. Whenever I see their names on the schedule, I know I'm in for an excellent session. They're easy to hear throughout class and give clear, straightforward instruction that makes the practice accessible without unnecessary complexity or repetition. I highly recommend trying these instructors, though you really can't go wrong with any of the instructors here. There is street parking around the building and also a parking lot that you can access from 71st or 72nd street. I am writing a review because we can't practice in person right now, and I miss it so much…read more Commune Yoga is hands down the best yoga studio I have ever been a part of. I say I am a part of it because they truly do create a community there. Everyone is so kind, and the teachers always take time to say hi to you. When I first went, I was sort of intimidated by how friendly and talkative students were. I thought everyone knew each other from a previous location but, no, it turns out the studio just creates a welcoming and outgoing energy that makes everyone want to interact with one another. I have even made friends from the studio just by going to classes, which is a rare thing in Seattle. The energy of the studio is lovely, but the classes are even better. They have a class series dedicated to handstands. It's not a workshop, its weekly classes! Never have I ever had the opportunity to learn how to invert before properly. Teachers had always offered it in the past at other studios but never showed how or helped building the foundation for it. I think that is special. All of the flows at Commune are so unique, and you never get the same thing twice. (unless you want to, in which case they have a class just for that!) Usually, at other studios, you can tell if a class is close to over because the flows are repetitive and boring and so your mind wanders, and you start to think about what you'll get to do once it's over or what you'll have for dinner. Commune flows are NEVER like that, and by the time it ends, I'm always a little surprised at how FAST the hour flew by! I want to talk about their pricing too. As a student, I find their pricing incredibly accessible. I no longer have to choose between other expenses or a month of yoga. I left a chain studio to come to Commune and was paying almost double for half the quality of a studio. Commune has excellent rates that won't break the bank. They also have high-quality mats to use for free, unlike a lot of other studios have mediocre mats you have to pay to use. I also love that Commune Yoga is not a hot yoga studio. It gets warm, but not because they cook you with a heater. It makes the practice enjoyable, and I find the lack of overbearing heat makes it easier to stay in touch with how you're feeling physically during your practice. They have also handled the switch to online because of the pandemic with grace and ease. The classes are still just as great, and they are constantly filming and pumping out new content for us every week. We truly don't deserve them.
