Anna has since opened SageHouse Yoga in Carmel, and Georgia is teaching here, along with a number of other great instructors. How wonderful to have a yoga studio with such amazing people leading it! SageHouse is a beautiful space, with three different rooms designed for different types of yoga. They offer hot yoga and regular (unheated) yoga, which is great. My personal preference is regular unheated yoga, which I would have signed up for but the class was booked very quickly. So I took a heated class, which was held in the Sun Room, where the temperature was set to around 100 degrees. Georgia was our instructor. I have never sweated so much during a hot yoga class in my life! I loved the class, and left feeling purified and light as a feather. Georgia is such a great instructor -- she challenged us but also constantly reminded us that this was our practice, and we could take a break or modify if we needed to. One thing to keep in mind, if you take a hot yoga class here: If the class is full (which is probably will be), the mats will be very close together! They have tape on the floor to indicate where mats should be placed, and there is no extra room to spread your arms out. It is what it is. I'm used to practicing in a space where there is more room between me and my neighbor, so it was a little different to be so close to everyone. One of the things that I loved about the hot yoga class at SageHouse is that during savasana, they put a cold towel over your eyes, if you want. (And if you don't want, you can indicate that by putting your hands on your body.) It felt so nice to feel that coolness on my face as I relaxed after an intense class. I'm definitely returning to SageHouse Yoga to take more classes! What a great space to practice yoga, with great teachers to guide you along the way.

This is such a calming yet energizing space. I loved the gentle yoga class that I signed up for at Prana. One of the things that I noticed right away that was different about Prana: the class was set up with designated places to put your mat, and each spot had a bolster and two blocks. So cool! I don't usually use props because I don't like to go get them and then put them back, but because they were already there for me to use, I used them. How nice it was to experience savasana in fish pose with a comfy bolster supporting my spine. How nice to do bridge pose with a block under my sacrum. I need to remember to make the effort to use props, especially during gentle or restorative yoga. They offer heated and non-heated classes, as well as events like sound baths and aerial yoga. I will be back for a non-heated vinyasa flow class, for sure. Prana is located right in the Nickel Plate District of Fishers, right by where concerts take place in the summer. There is lots of parking, because they have their own designated parking lot.

I went on a Wednesday at Noon for the restorative session and it was my favorite yoga practice to date. Cris (she's a she, by the way) is an amazing instructor and is not only studied but her kindness is out of this world. The instructor, Beth, made me feel welcome and comfortable and she did a great job leading the class. The class itself (yin + deep relaxation) was so relaxing and exactly what I needed. I was fortunate to attend an outdoor yoga class at the downtown Canal on the morning of the total…read moresolar eclipse. It was put on by Pure Soul Paddle Board Yoga. Trisha, the person who led the class and who is also the owner, was so warm and welcoming. She led a great flow, and it put me in a great mood to start the special day. Pure Soul provides SUP (stand up paddle board) yoga, so you will find them where there is water around central Indiana: the Canal Walk downtown, but also at the Monon Community Center pool in Carmel, Lakefront at Keystone and other places. I didn't do SUP yoga (our yoga class was on dry land), but I will now seek out a SUP yoga class! Other people around me were talking about their experience with SUP yoga, and it sounds like it's a lot of balancing and core work, which I can get down with. The people I interacted with at Pure Soul were literally pure souls -- so kind, so genuine. I'm so glad that I was able to practice yoga with these guys, and I'm looking forward to doing so again soon.

I've paddle boarded before but it's been awhile and never on the canal. The staff were really friendly and helpful getting everyone settled in their boards. The yoga instructor was awesome and took her time with everyone. The headstand on the board is beyond my capabilities but hey maybe next time! Pure Soul also does paddle boarding on the monon and the Lake at Keystone. They also have multiple yoga classes to chose from. Free session are thru the end of the summer and by raffle only. Definitely worth signing up. It was a blast!!

The instructors lead everyone in a group warm up first and then we were split into groups to take turns with the apparatuses. I felt more naturally inclined with the silks and got to try out some beginners tricks! The pole fitness was a little harder for me but still a fun challenge. The instructors for both halves were helpful and encouraging. They have a variety of class rates (as low as $15/class) and a wide schedule of classes between this location and their new studio in Fountain Square. I'd definitely try a full silks class again!

I haven't had the pleasure of practicing at the Roots and Wings indoor studio yet. But I did take…read morean outdoor yoga class with them that met at Flat Fork Creek Park in the outskirts of Fishers (almost Fortville). What a great class, for many reasons. First, the instructor. I believe her name was Martha. Her cues were so clear that I never had to look at her -- I could just close my eyes and focus on myself and the flow. She also cued some interesting and slightly challenging poses, which I enjoyed. Second, the class itself. This outdoor class that I got to experience on a beautiful and auspicious morning was completely free. Free! I didn't even have to register online or anything. I just showed up to the park, climbed to the top of a hill, and placed my yoga mat down on the grass. I think it is so cool, and so in the spirit of yoga, that Roots and Wings offers free outdoor yoga classes to the community. Talk about spreading good vibes! Roots and Wings is practicing what they are preaching. Third, this class that I took was not a one-off. They offer free outdoor classes all summer, plus some in the fall. I will definitely be joining some of the other classes they are offering, and also visiting them in the studio at some point. I can already tell that these guys are my kind of people.
