Thomas is my stylist and he does and AMAZING job on my curly hair. Each time he cuts it, he uses different techniques to achieve fullness without sacrificing length. John did a beautiful job on my daughter's makeup for her senior prom! He was extremely attentive and super kind and made sure to offer a glass of wine for me as well as water for my daughter. We laughed and joked with him the whole time we were there! He has an amazing spirit and surprisingly he admitted that he was introverted! Had been coming here for about one year and had been satisfied. However, recently called ahead for a last minute hair cut and was told my usual barber was available. Upon arrival, was notified she had left 30 minutes earlier...? Was then told no other stylist was available for a cut. There was no notification phone call. No apology. No explanation from staff. I used to like Balance, and unfortunately for me, ironically enough gave it a 5 star review on Yelp a few years ago - but in recent months they have gotten to be absolutely awful. This establishment is dreadfully overpriced now, and gives mediocre to terrible results. The reason this salon has done so well is because they have good marketing strategies but they don't live up to what they claim to be. Please do not go here!!! I know three individuals who had HORRIBLE hair cuts and color at this salon... including myself. Two family members went into Balance, one ended up from light blonde to pitch /black/ hair which she didn't want at all, and the other got a long, awkward hair cut that looked awfully like something from the 1980s. (So basically, this place is outdated and you never know if you'll get a good or a bad result.) Most recently I wanted to get a short precision hair cut by Thomas, the owner of the salon, and he did a horrendous job. He took poor creative liberties, cut my hair randomly, was arrogant and somewhat rude to me throughout the cut in that he did not listen to what I had to say. At times I felt I was giving more directions on what to do, like he did not have a CLUE about what I wanted even though I was polite and specific in what I wanted, and it was not that complicated of a cut! I had to go to another salon the very next day and have it fixed. He was pushy and did not seem to care that I stated multiple times how unhappy I was. Don't bother going back for them to fix your hair, if you are unfortunate enough to have a bad cut by Balance: they are all unprofessional in the way they dress and act, and I personally would never have trusted someone else there to cut my hair after the OWNER himself screwed it up so badly! Thus, I am now out 70 DOLLARS for a butchered look. Thankfully, it was fixed by someone else in Glen Mills. Again, this salon has gone downhill and hit rock bottom. The receptionists are all weird now, and the main hair dresser Thomas is a joke. Please do not waste your money!!! read more

I used to trust only myself to the cutting of my locks, but due to getting a little too old to look like an art student, finally I sucked it up and sought out professional help. I recently just started using Balance. I went for a color and cut. The stylist did a great job and I loved the results so I went back and got a peel and micro in the spa. Again an excellent experience with the staff in the spa. The charge $35 to blow dry and style your hair if you don't get a cut which I think is crazy and the two older ladies at the front desk could use a little charm school.....not super friendly and they never smile other than that my actual device experience has been good. I have been getting my hair colored for over ten years and I must say, this is the first time that a salon did more damage to my hair than I have done on my own. I did not want to write this, but when I went to the salon with the damage, I was given a lot of excuses, that it was my fault, etc. All that I wanted was my hair to look semi-normal again and instead, there was no accountability. I'm a new client, researched a bunch of salons (as I'm guilty of no haircuts for ages!) and decided to try this location. Their stylists and salon coordinators are amazing! So happy!! I did a layered style with a partial shave and love it! Booked two more appointments right away; "tune up" and later on going to get a summer undercut and layer touch up. Balance Hair Spa saved my wedding. My long-time hairstylist quit two weeks before the day and since I was getting married out of town, I was at a loss for a replacement. Balance happened to be across the street from my hotel! Megan did a fabulous job of doing my hair exactly as I'd envisioned. I had my hair colored for the very first time and it went so poorly. There was more color on one part of my hair than any other, whole pieces of my hair were missing dye completely and the color didn't even start where we had discussed. People asked if I dyed my hair myself. I went back to have it fixed with a different stylist who did the best she could. I have been coming to Balance for 5+ years. I have only gotten one not so great cut at Balance years ago, but the male stylist that did it has since left. Every other cut I have gotten here has been great! I have had over 5 different stylists, since I am not too picky, and they have all been fantastic. What I love about Balance is how unique everyone is, they all have their own styles, which makes it fun! The salon is so clean, beautifully decorated, and relaxing to come to. They have great receptionists that make you feel welcome and your business appreciated. I have never had to wait long for my cut. I have been going to Balance for at least six months and then my stylist, Keyana stopped working there. Since her departure, It has been a wreck. 1. My appt with Keyana: No one called me and told me she had left, they just rescheduled me with someone I did not know. I only found out when I called to reschedule. 2. I went with a new colorist, Wendy who seemed fine. She was just doing a root touch up. She did not blow me out and did not once come over to see how I liked my color. 3. The worst part. They had told me that Wendy was not able to blow out my hair and that an "assistant" could do it. I said fine. My appt was at 3:30 and I said I had to leave around 5pm when making the appt and they said that was not a problem. As I saw that they were washing my hair out right before 5pm, I knew it was going to be later but told the assistant I had to be out by 5:30 and she said it should be ok. The "assistant". I am not sure what their definition of an assistant is, but you would think they would be capable of doing a blow out. This person was not. She dropped the blow dryer on my head and ONE hour later I had to have her stop while my hair was still wet. She was horrible, my hair looked frizzy and dry--my 11 year old could have done a better job. I asked for the owner or manager to call me when I left and never heard back from anyone a day later. On top of it, the people at the front desk did not seem to be concerned when I told them how upset they were. They simply said, well we did not charge you for the blow dry. Perhaps they should consider money not the biggest motivator and understand that if I was willing to pay for a blow out, that is what I truly wanted and not to save a few bucks. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else where they respect their customers. read more

Horrible salon. Gave them several chances. Each experience worse than the first. Made my dissatisfaction known, hence two colorists/stylists offered to "redo" my Color which they got terribly wrong. Wrote a review on their website which was taken down because clearly they want "only happy clients comments." Wrote review in google with specifics to how terrible my experiences were and Biff/Piff, sorry cant recall his name (owner) said my words were hateful. No its called honest feedback. They turn over stylists like a revolving door which is not surprising. And yes people complain about stylists or colorists but all the front desk does is put a note on your account which denotes who you refuse to let touch your hair. Awful place and owners so out of touch, who cant yake critical feedback. Thankfully a new salon is n town that doesnt feel like a biker shop and knows how to do hair. read more

Balance Hair Spa is truly a one of a kind salon. I am 64 years old and have been to many, many salons in my years. The difference with Balance and and the other salons I have been to is the feeling I get every time I go to the salon. All the employees are friendly and always greet you with a smile. They make it a point to know your name and make you feel very welcome. Most important, Thomas is the absolute BEST!!! I depend on him to advise me re color, cut, etc. and he is always very honest with me. I struggle with fine hair and it is so hard for me to get any volume in my hair. Recently, Thomas suggested I get a body perm. He thought that would give me the body I was looking for. I was a bit concerned about getting a perm but I knew that I could trust Thomas because he has always done a fantastic job on my hair. I get many, many compliments on my hair and I am always very pleased after each appointment. Well, I got the perm and I have never been happier. I was afraid I would have hard to manage hair after the perm ... BUT just the opposite. I finally have VOLUME and my hair is so easy to style now. I absolutely LOVE IT... In short, the salon is an absolutely Wonderful Place. From the moment you arrive until you leave, you are treated very special. Just moved to the area and was recommended this place by a coworker. Made an appointment a little over three weeks ago. Showed up for my appointment and the front desk was appallingly rude. The one girl was taking about inappropriately about another women. They didn't even welcome me in or say hello for 5 minutes. Very unprofessional. Finally after hearing the front girl talk about "this girl being a bitch" mind you for 5 minutes I finally got up and walked out. Will not be returning. Jennifer Sanchez, at Balance Hair Spa, has just blown me away with my last three cuts. She had an opening and took me last minute to fix a horrible haircut from another salon months ago. I was in tears when I walked in, but I was in awe when I walked out with my new pixie cut. We talked about options, but decided to go short and start over growing it into the cut I wanted from the other designer. Well, Jen has now cut my pixie three times since, and she's so good that I don't think I will grow it out. She makes me look and feel amazing. I recently moved to the Chester county area and have been in search of a new salon. I chose to take a shot with Balance based on their website and the yelp reviews, yet after visiting the salon today I feel a bit duped. The receptionists were not friendly nor welcoming, and the overall feel of the salon was not of a luxurious salon, rather more like a strip mall salon. In their reviews, some of their customers mentioned being offered a refreshment, but that was not my experience. I got a wash, cut, blow dry and was on my way. As I left the receptionist offered poor customer service and did not ask about my experience. The stylist was new and did a reasonable job, however, I had to fix my bangs when I got home. Unfortunately, this is not the salon for me. I will continue to travel to Philly to achieve the look and professional treatment that is expected when you pay for a service. read more

The last three years have been spent going to Balance Hair & Spa. I couldn't be happier. Those working the front desk have always been very nice and welcoming. I had Dreamcatcher hair extensions put in my hair at a salon out of town and I needed to find a local place to maintain them. I called a few places in the area and the prices were outrageous. I rendomly chose Balance knowing that they worked with extensions. Their prices were great and the they reccomended that I get more bundles put in. I've been trying to persevere with this salon for the better part of a year thinking things would get better. I kept hoping that the next appointment would be the one that finally resulted in my hair turning out how I had asked. First cut resulted in drastic, uneven lengths of hair being cut off when I had asked for a "little bit of long layers". One side was more than an inch shorter than the other side and the ends were left really stringy looking. I didn't want to be that person that bounces salons, so I let it go and the next time I asked for no layers at all. The highlight jobs I received were mediocre at best. Three times over the course of 8 months I went and all three times the color and tone were not what I asked for. Some of the highlights were blotchy, some were heavy, others really thin. Overall look was washed out and brassy even with the added expense of the recommended toner. Third visit I took pictures thinking maybe I wasn't saying the right words or using the correct terminology. Still the exact same result as the first, wrong color. The last straw was the second butchering of my son's hair. His hair is super easy to cut (from what I'm told), but this person gave him the worst cut he's ever had. Some sections long, some short, one side of the bangs cut almost to the scalp. It'll take 3 months to grow out what looks like a horrible, horrible, choppy, uneven cut. I really tried to like this salon. It's in a convenient location with a lot of available hours that fit my schedule. But the prices are high compared to what you get. Subpar stylists with big egos who need more experience, training and continuing education. Sorry, but I wouldn't recommend. Time for me to move on. read more

I thought they are stylist (like doctors, for example, "you tell me what needs to be done to fix me", SO "you tell me what haircut would work for my face type") Instead, they, like "whatever you like". I've been to a million hair salons in the area and every cut was so so. Then I stumbled upon New Balance for a cut and color with Ebony. She was right on perfect with her suggestions and the precision of the cut. It's a new shorter style for me and I love it! I receive many compliments and I just tell them to go see Ebony.
