I have been going to this salon for the past year for just my hair with Jennifer B and it's always such a great experience ! My highlights and cuts are always 5 plus stars. I have been the type to switch around places and stylists but since coming here I have not changed! It's a nice hidden gem in malvern where they focus on quality and professionalism everytime. I live in Wilmington and work in West Chester so it's a little bit of a drive when coming from Delaware but I refuse to look for anything closer! When they reopened after Covid I was so impressed and felt so safe. Now I have added in massages with El who is also amazing and my brows which I go to for Jordan. This review is for services in August 2013. I worked with Ellen who was a perfectly capable stylist and colorist. My service was fine, nothing extraordinary, nothing to prevent me from coming back. Ellen was helpful in giving me the service that I asked for, though the miscommunication was due to having issues with the last salon I visited and not having any knowledge/understanding of the coloring process. I was not thrilled that Ellen preferred to dry my hair then flat iron it (especially with the amount of over-processing done both a previous salon and by her). When I returned for a corrective service she was very helpful and understanding and worked to help explain more. Then the blowout she gave wasn't anything to write home about. I would recommend her for color services (if you know what you want) and see someone else for a cut/style. Color is really her thing. I'm ultimately not coming back because the lighting in the salon was terrible (I should not have to go outside to check the work done because I can't see in the low lighting of the salon). I've found another stylist who is a specialist with blondes and I am having more success communicating with her. I also had a facial with Sonja. Again, nothing special. I was surprised to pay an extra $20 for a 'massage' when it was only 5 minutes of a light rub. Nowhere near what I would expect for a massage. My skin felt better after my facial but not as clean as other facials I have had. There were no needle extractions on the whiteheads I had, and my pores were smaller but still not clean feeling. I would save the $20 and skip the massage, then you'd get a better value for your money. I love this salon! My mom and I have been going here for a years now and they always get the job done beautifully and for the right prices! I always feel special and paid attention to here and they always remember me which is nice! Always ask me if I would like anything to drink and I always love to have conversation with the girls that do my hair! They always get my to my blonde goals considering I'm a natural dark brunette! They never go too far in one process and always know what to do! Showing them pictures of what you want is super helpful so they know exactly what you want visually instead of with just describing with words what you want! First visit, new to the area. Found on AVEDA site. Attempted to book online, received an email about appointment availability and responded; no appointment when I arrived so they accommodated me as a walk-in. No tea, no complimentary massage service. Not what I am used to in an AVEDA salon but the price was acceptable. My hairdresser was pulled away in the middle of my cut to review her schedule (!). The hairdresser in the next booth blasted me repeatedly with her hair dryer as she was styling her customer. One star for accommodating me as a walk in, one for price, one for my hairdresser, who was pleasant and accommodating. Minus one star for service issues previously noted and minus another for not feeling the "AVEDA VIP treatment." read more

She does an excellent job and has greatly improved my thin hair between recommending products to use and her cut and color expertise. I have also had facials that have been wonderful. Alessandra (colorist & stylist) is absolutely amazing!!! I've been an Aveda color client for over 20 years. I've been to various Aveda salons / colorists over the years depending upon the convenience of where I'm living or working etc, etc. I choose the Aveda color line for my very fine (tends to get dry) double processed blonde hair because it's gentle and much more conditioning than other brands. You would think, as long as my color formula was in the computer any colorist at any Aveda salon, would be able to duplicate. Unfortunately, not always the case - I've had my share of color disasters... I recently starting seeing colorist & stylist, Alessandra at Style Masters for Balayage and she is absolutely amazing!!!! I have never been happier with my hair color!! My dry, over processed blonde hair - now has warmth , dimension and looks & feels healthier!! Gone is the over processed, one dimensional, bleach blonde hair that I've had for years. Alessandra is also a talented stylist who takes the time listen to her clients wishes and goals! I've recently moved to the Hamptons and continue to make the 3.5 hour drive every 5-6 weeks to see Alessandra. Her expertise is worth the trip - I'll never trust my color & cut to anyone else! read more

I also was surprised my stylist did not say a word to me during the entire process, nor did she offer me a drink. I ended up listening to nearby conversations between stylists and clents for entertainment :) As this was my second time there, they followed the color on the card supposedly, but the roots came out dark brown, not my lighter golden blonde that i usually get, and i had told her the golden color i got there a month ago was TOO DARK. SO SHE MADE IT EVEN DARKER WITHOUT ASKING ME!! the stylist HAD to change something and not followed the formula, though she says she did not. she seemed shocked when I casually mentioned i was a red head. She didn't ask and I guess it wasn't on the card. my guess is she took the red and lightness out, thinking my original color was dark brown, but as she does not speak, she did not ask me to verify. SO i did not get the color i wanted, but its only temporary and looks good enough, but i usually stop going to salons that insist on dying me brown. Im not sure i will return and i don't know how i will get back to non-brown at this point and probably will have some weird dark stripe when the silver grey starts coming in. thats why i keep the color lighter to avoid the skunk-stripe if you don't want to re-dye every 2 weeks for $100. I had a haircut the previous time, and it was barely passable, and I could have done as well myself probably. Also the styling needed to be finished at home as she left the ends unfiinshed and i had an event to go to. I much prefer the nearby Avante salon, which i went to accidentally because of the similar name when i was trying to find an Aveda salon :) Stylemasters also gave me a run-around on redeeming the value I already paid for a groupon, not the promotional value, and they did not let me redeem the paid value, claiming i had to go back to groupon then changing the story to only can be redeemed on a haircut. I did not see the fine print when clicking "view details" on the groupon,(it can only be seen when clicking on validating- which i didn't want to do as it can nullify the groupon) so i went in within 6 months of using another previous groupon. she did not tell me it was invalid until the hair coloring was already underway and too late to stop, though i had been borderline deciding whether to re-color yet after only a month and i got there 20 minutes early to submit and verify the groupon at the desk. The only reason she knew I had been there within 6 months is because i told them. So using information I honestly gave them, she refused to give me the money i already paid. All in all - i don't think thats a smart way to treat customers paying $100+ a pop since its money they WILL have to credit me at any time. They kept acting like if i pursued the issue with the owner ,who was on vacation, at another time, i could get a credit. Well the groupon paid value IS ALREADY a credit, so that was frustrating and leaves me with more hassle with a salon I'm not really thrilled with anyway. read more

I've had many services done here including haircuts, manicures, facials and massages. Everyone of these has been top notch. The employees are well trained, courteous and professional. The salon is always spotless and the coffee is hot. It's just a fantastic experience where you walk away feeling fabulous after being pampered with Aveda products.
