The inside was clean with several few tables for dine-in, and the employees were friendly and efficient. I got a piece of chocolate babka, which was tasty and well made, with both a crispy outside and a chewy, layered, and flavorful inside. After taxes and fees, it came out to be $7.50, which feels quite pricey for a baked good. This was a scheduled delivery order through their website as a birthday surprise breakfast. It was the first and last time. To begin with, for some reason the location changed the delivery time by almost two hours; was supposed to be around 9am, and instead got moved to 11am. This was unexpected: the initial confirmation email had the proper requested time, but the email that came the day before with the reminder had the new time but I didn't look at that until the 9am hour came and went. Customer service issue #1. We tried calling the location multiple times, perhaps 20 or so times, and they never picked up. Ever. So there was no way to rectify the error they made. Instead, the surprise birthday breakfast came almost at lunch and there wasn't a thing we could do as we waited those two hours, short of maybe driving down there to see if there was a human we could talk to. Customer service issue #2. Food was fine. Honestly, the babka was fine but not amazing. The chocolate flavoring was too sweet and the dough too brioche-y for our tastes, and the shellack of sugar on top was a bit much, but tastes are subjective. What isn't subjective is that the thing they call a bagel is nothing close to a bagel. When I read reviews about how they weren't "real" bagels I assumed these were just NY deli snobs who complain if it isn't exactly like their corner bakery back in the UES or something. Nope. What they bake and sell as bagels are like Wonder Bread in circular shape. They just simply aren't bagels. Frozen grocery store brands come closer to the real thing than these. We stopped by Bakey on a Tuesday afternoon and found it moderately busy. The interior had a casual vibe, with orange wall accents and plenty of seating. We had to try the classic Chocolate Babka, but had a hard time choosing a second pastry because so many looked delicious. I asked the employee what we should get and he recommended the Broissant. The Chocolate Babka was fantastic! Bakey really nailed the texture and sweetness level, and I would happily order this again. However, the Broissant was pretty disappointing. Came in to try a babka for breakfast and was so tempted by the challah bread and savory pastries but decided that I wouldn't have the stomach space for more food and just grabbed a chocolate babka to try the classic. It was absolutely delicious and I loved how rich and chocolatey the bread is without being too too sweet. The chocolate is spread throughout the braided sweetened bread and the edges are actually a bit toasted for a textural difference. It was so yummy I'll definitely be back to try the other flavors. My order: Iced mocha with oatmilk and my mom got a spinach boureka! The Review: Bakey is always fantastic and this location is no exception. This brought me back to my gluten days. Although there were zero gluten free options for me, I was able to show my mom one of the delectable delights of Cambridge. She absolutely loved her boureka. I got the iced mocha; I think they used the baking chocolate and it was SO good. My hot take--if your business specializes in flour, it's okay that there's no gluten-free! They aren't able to toast the bagel as the sandwich was preassembled, although come to think of it not sure if they toast the bagel if asked separate, will need to find out. But once I started eating it I see why, that challah bagel is so soft, fluffy, easy to chew, doesn't need to really be toasted. The ice tea was good as well. Can't wait to try more. read more

The place is bright, modern, clean with lots of seating. Cute touch is an "Oven On" sign . I guess they specialize in babka so they served strawberry babka and raspberry babka. My daughter and I shared the latter. The texture was good, not dry but there was an aftertaste that I wasn't sure what it was, whether from the dough itself or the glaze. There are things to like here - they actually have a restroom that you don't need to grab a key for, and I enjoyed the coffee that I ordered. I also appreciated that there was seating and you weren't rushed out. I live Bakey! I am lucky enough (or unlucky, if you ask my wallet) to work next door, so I stop by frequently for a little treat. I've tried pretty much all of their wares at this point and the standouts for me are their chocolate chip cookie (perfectly caramelized around the edges but still gooey and melty in the center), spinach and cheese bureka (stuffed with super creamy and salty feta cheese... yum), and of course the famous chocolate babka, which is rich, chocolaty, buttery perfection. Went here for their grand opening day! It was a super good experience. I was immediately greeted by people working here, and offered to try chocolate babka samples. The babka tastes great, it was soft, warm with plenty of chocolate fillings. I also tried their bagel ---it is definitely a non-traditional bagel, more with a challah texture, soft, fluffy, and eggy. I would not ask them to toast it but just warm up with microwave, since it's more of a bread experience (and I enjoyed it!) There are several larger tables decorated with fresh bouquets for group to hang out, and small tables for individuals to work. I studied here for a bit, and it was a decent time. I went here on their grand opening day. I had heard great things about Bakey and their other locations, so I was really excited that a store was opening in Kendall. They had posted on social media that they were offering a boston cream babka for a limited time. This sounded extremely delicious and enticing, so I went early before work and to beat the grand opening rush to try the boston cream babka. Unfortunately, they said that flavor babka would not be available until 10am, which they thought they had communicated on their social media post. I went back to check and they had not said anything about 10am in the original post, nor did they update the announcement. I saw multiple people ask about the same thing and be turned away, so it did seem like the post was misleading. Nevertheless, I was interested in trying their other treats. They provided a sample of their almond babka, which had lots of almond flavor and paste, but honestly seemed closer to a croissant than a babka. I bought a chocolate babka loaf, which was decent. It had a glossy sugary coating on top, which had a nice chew, but the loaf was overall lacking in chocolate. I also typically prefer a much denser babka than what Bakey has to offer (like Oneg Heimishe or even Green's). I also tried the cheese stick, which I really enjoyed. The cheddar flavor combined with the texture of the bread was really satisfying, I just wish it was a bit warmer. In general, I would say that Bakey is serving different variations of croissant dough with interesting flavors. It wasn't the style of babka I was hoping for, but the items were tasty enough that I would go back. There are still some finishing touches being made - there was loud drilling in the building, they had no honey for my drink even though it was on the menu, and service was somehow attentive but inefficient - but I think time will help them adjust to this location and bring a more polished feel. read more

This is the best bakery in Boston/Cambridge. The broissant was buttery, pillowy, warm and delicious-- everything a croissant should be. The bakery is also large with ample seating, so no need to feel crammed and rushed like some of the other bakeries around. I hope Bakey is around for a long, long time. read more

Lattes are decent, babkas a great and lots of different flavors, bagels are very fluffy but not a traditional bagel.
