We absolutely love coming to Bakery Lorraine, and it remains one of our favorite spots in San Antonio for the good vibes and friendly service. On our recent visit, we ordered a cafe au lait, which was perfectly balanced for a slow morning, along with a delicious lemon blueberry scone that had bright flavors. For breakfast, we tried the sausage (ordered a side of it) and the yogurt parfait, which had great flavor overall, though the strawberries were slightly soggy (the granola balanced out the textures well). We also paired our meal with the brioche toast, and we enjoyed it, we really miss the old way they used to cut it because that thicker slice from a while back was definitely superior (iykyk). Of course, we couldn't leave without grabbing a pop pastry and a few of their signature macarons to go for later including the Earl Grey, Pistachio and Mangonada. I ordered at the counter and got a number, and my food came out in about 15 minutes. The staff was incredibly friendly, answered all my questions, and even helped me choose a lemonade--great service all around. For food, I tried the quiche Lorraine (with bacon, caramelized onions, and Gruyère cheese) and a side of potatoes, along with a lemonade. Everything was delicious. The quiche was rich and savory, with a perfectly baked crust that balanced nicely with the soft, creamy egg filling. The portion might look small at first, but it's actually very filling. The potatoes were also a standout--crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and well-seasoned. The lemonade tasted fresh and homemade, which made it even better. My family and I had a prolonged ER visit and just needed some food. In the past there have been some gluten friendly options. Today when I asked if perhaps a sandwich could be made with a gluten friendly bread- The woman at the register flatly said No we don't have anything. And then laughed. Now. If I hadn't had a migraine and stomach pain from the accidental gluten exposure this morning maybe it would not have stung so bad. Came here a few times and definitely a great spot to return to. Parking can be a little difficult since there are a few 15min only parking and limited open parking shared with neighboring shops; though can always park on the street next to the complex on Clinic Dr. Ambiance is always lively and bright, people chattering casually so probably not the best place to have a private conversation. Good place to study or do work if you have noise canceling headphones. The food is always wonderfully made. Pastries are made in excellent quality. The breakfast sandwiches are also very hearty and savory. Their fruit juices are made fresh as well as very well made coffee. Staff are always welcoming and cheerful. I quickly stopped by to pick up a cinnamon roll. The service was okay, the man working at the register asked me for my order, then immediately left to do something else in the middle of my sentence. I would not have minded if he excused himself or acknowledged it afterwards, but he didn't. When he returned, he asked for my order again and that was pretty much it. I was not mad about it, but it did feel quite rude. The cinnamon roll was really good! It was a huge cinnamon-flavored croissant with icing. It was the best cinnamon roll I have ever had; it wasn't too sweet, and it was flaky and buttery. I don't know if they can warm them, but mine was room temperature. Current guilty/not guilty pleasure! I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and started chemo treatments in March. Part of the chemo regimen is that I cannot eat out and have to be very careful in how food is prepared. We found this lovely bakery near the Medical Center and my treatment hospital and called in a to go order so I would not be in public. Image my delight when I got some of the BEST Avocado Toast w/Lentils I have ever had and finished it off with fabulous Cinnamon Toast Macaron. Now, it is a blessing if my chemo treatments are done weekly before 3:30pm so I can make it by Bakery Lorraine before the close at 4pm for a fantastic to go meal that they are kind enough to package special for me to go. You can wait in line inside for their full service kitchen, but to save time, see if their side service window is open; the indoor line can take a while and I picked up my baked goods in a matter of a few minutes. I am a big coffee and cake person. I make it my personal quest to look for places that fulfill this need. Bakery Lorraine has always been an easy stop, when I do not feel like searching for new hangouts. I remember Bakery Lorraine's beginnings, when they were located in a converted house, close to the Alamo Heights area. A friend took me there for the first time, and I loved the quaint look and the delicious breakfast. This was such a long time ago, I can't remember the meal I had, but I do remember being very impressed with their food. As now, they were known for their macaroons and made other cakes and pastries as well. Fast forward to 2022, the original location is long gone, but more Bakery Lorraine locations have been opened throughout SA. I stopped at their Medical area location for some tea and a muffin. To be truthful, my drink of choice is usually coffee, but I am not a big fan of Bakery Lorraine's coffee. I am not sure if it is the coffee itself or the way it is brewed, but it has a bitter too-much coffee taste. In fact, I find that a lot of places in this city tend to do this. The "hipper" the place, the more bitter the coffee. I can never seem to get past the first sip. Since I have had meals at Lorraine since its inception, I know this was not always the case, so I'm not sure what changed. The cakes at their Medical area were varied and the place was not crowded at all, which I loved. Their cakes are always pretty good, and this was the case of the muffin I purchased. It was worth the visit. For a beverage and cake stop, Bakery Lorraine certainly works. Look, I can tell you that the food was not fantastical, but that would make me a LIAR. The food here was SO good. I had the lunch special of 1/2 sandwich and 1/2 soup. . I mean, that's fine and all, but I'm still irked that this happened to me the last time I came here, too. This is at a very convenient location right in front of the health profession school! I tried the chocolate caramel tart and the lemon blueberry frangipane tart, and they were one of the best tarts I had. The only downside was like it was a little expensive. The chocolate caramel tart was so rich in chocolate flavor, but you could definitely taste the salted caramel with each bite. It hits you after the initial chocolate flavor!The pastry that made the tart was also very nutty and made a perfect balance to the sweet+salty combo. The lemon blueberry tart was something that I've never tasted before, but it was THE BEST pastry I hav had. The blueberry nodes had most of the flavor with fresh blueberries on top, but the lemon was the kick that made it so good! It had blueberry jam and also an almond cream that made the pastry so soft and buttery. Each bite was so delicious and I would come just for this tart again. Stopped in for coffee and decided to get breakfast. I've never had anything other than coffee and a pastry here so I branched out and tried the chicken salad croissant. I'm a fan of chicken salad but recipes vary. Depending on the restaurant sometimes it's too bland, too wet, too dry. But usually. I enjoy it. Not so much today. I was served an overdone croissant that had a very dry chicken salad (only the slightest amount of mayo/mixture on chunks of what appear to be pulled roasted chicken. Nicely dressed with grapes and sprouts and some white opaque chunks of vegetable that could be the stems of a lettuce or maybe jicama.. not sure - those were flavorless. The house made potato chips are good and the coffee was excellent. Staff were friendly and efficient. If the croissant had not been overdone and the chicken salad a little less dry I'd say 4 stars... I'll come back because I know some of their other items are good, but probably won't try this late again. read more

I've been to the location at the Pearl so I was already familiar with the menu options. I figured that this was a solid choice for a quick lunch with my husband. I was a bit disappointed because the edges of the bread were burned.... not just a little either, they were black as can be! It completely ruined the taste of the sandwich. If I'm paying $12+ for a sandwich, it better taste good! I'm shocked that they would even attempt to serve anything that wasn't of good quality. My husband ordered the chicken salad sandwich. The croissant was absolutely delightful! The chicken salad fell short. It was lacking flavor and texture. Again, if I'm paying $12+ for a sandwich, the flavor should reflect the price point. We were both disappointed in the food quality. The value and quality didn't match the price. We had initially considered also ordering a pastry for dessert but changed our mind after receiving sub par food. Sadly, we don't have any intentions of returning. read more

I have visited Bakery Lorraine at the Pearl several times and always been impressed - but also always stuck with their pastries which are awesome. However the visit to the Med Center location and selecting a lunch bowl instead of a pastry turned out to be a really bad idea! It was awful and both my colleague and I ended up getting sick! We went with a quinoa bowl and in all honesty should have sent it back. It was topped with a poached egg that was way underdone - yes a poached egg should be runny but this was cold, and almost transparent at the edges. It was akin to breaking a raw egg on top of out food and stomach churning. We both left the quinoa / Bulger part as it was inedible once the egg was on it. The bowl also has some breaded eggplant - at least I think it was; whatever it was, it was tough and inedible. So I ate some charred tomatoes- those were fine, along with some sautéed greens and pickles. Ultimately there was very little edible food for price, and the next day when I met my colleague she too had been sick and this meal was the only thing we had eaten in common. Would not go back to this location again nor buy anything other than pastries at the other location read more
