Fresh pastries and friendly service. Easy in and out but parking is limited and there is a Merit coffee here as well. Clean space to enjoy your baked goods and great to meet up with someone. Average noise but can be quiet as well. Well lit inside. Closes around 3pm daily. $$

We loved Bakery Lorraine at The Pearl! Everything was fresh, beautifully made, and full of flavor. The pastries were buttery and melt-in-your-mouth good, and the coffee was the perfect pick-me-up while exploring the Pearl area. The vibe is charming and busy in the best way, and it's absolutely worth stopping by if you're in San Antonio.

Stopped by Bakery Lorraine (Medical Center location) for a quick bite, and it did not disappoint. I had the avocado toast with smoked salmon and a perfectly soft egg on top--super fresh and flavorful without feeling heavy. I paired it with an iced latte made with coconut milk and sugar-free vanilla, and honestly, it was perfect. Smooth, not too sweet, and exactly what I needed to get through the day. The staff was friendly, my order came out quickly, and the whole vibe was chill even though they were busy. Definitely a solid go-to spot in the area for good coffee and fresh bites.

Came here a few times and definitely a great spot to return to. Parking can be a little difficult since there are a few 15min only parking and limited open parking shared with neighboring shops; though can always park on the street next to the complex on Clinic Dr. Ambiance is always lively and bright, people chattering casually so probably not the best place to have a private conversation. Good place to study or do work if you have noise canceling headphones. The food is always wonderfully made. Pastries are made in excellent quality. The breakfast sandwiches are also very hearty and savory. Their fruit juices are made fresh as well as very well made coffee. Staff are always welcoming and cheerful. Because of the good food and friendly staff, will come back to try more dishes. Keep up the good work Cafe Lorraine!

    Huge croissant cinnamon roll

I quickly stopped by to pick up a cinnamon roll. The service was okay, the man working at the register asked me for my order, then immediately left to do something else in the middle of my sentence. I would not have minded if he excused himself or acknowledged it afterwards, but he didn't. When he returned, he asked for my order again and that was pretty much it. I was not mad about it, but it did feel quite rude. The cinnamon roll was really good! It was a huge cinnamon-flavored croissant with icing. It was the best cinnamon roll I have ever had; it wasn't too sweet, and it was flaky and buttery. I don't know if they can warm them, but mine was room temperature. I did not get the best look at the bakery, but I remember it looked cute to me. It's a small bakery, so it's pretty cozy and gives off a nice little cafe vibe.

A delicious surprise... I was thrilled to see the Lorraine's standards of service and quality of food have transported perfectly to the new Medical Center location. I enjoyed a marvelous triple espresso... made with Merit espresso beans, which are full bodied and bright... We thoroughly enjoyed the cheese and peanut butter macaroon - yes, it taste like a cheese and peanut butter sandwich cracker. The staff was friendly and helpful... I appreciated them clarifying I wanted a triple espresso and not an Americano. I like my coffee strong. Cheers!

    Beet Salad

Excellent food, excellent atmosphere, and friendly staff! Their bakery items are exquisite and delicious. Can sit inside or outside, the back patio is nice when weather permits. This past time I tried their beet salad with goat cheese and fried chickpeas, which might be my new favorite. A little on the pricier side, but the quality of the ingredients, food, preparation and the experience make it well worth it. Also greatly appreciate the healthcare worker discount!

Interior view from the indoor ordering line
    Sam S.

I've only ever had pastries from Bakery Lorraine, but it's always one of my favorite spots when I need a good quality croissant or baked good. You can wait in line inside for their full service kitchen, but to save time, see if their side service window is open; the indoor line can take a while and I picked up my baked goods in a matter of a few minutes. The croissants are always a good choice, but if you're looking for a sweet option, grab a morning bun. Can't go wrong with the macarons either. Park in the Koehler Garage for 2 hours free parking.

I am a big coffee and cake person. I make it my personal quest to look for places that fulfill this need. Bakery Lorraine has always been an easy stop, when I do not feel like searching for new hangouts. I remember Bakery Lorraine's beginnings, when they were located in a converted house, close to the Alamo Heights area. A friend took me there for the first time, and I loved the quaint look and the delicious breakfast. This was such a long time ago, I can't remember the meal I had, but I do remember being very impressed with their food. As now, they were known for their macaroons and made other cakes and pastries as well. Fast forward to 2022, the original location is long gone, but more Bakery Lorraine locations have been opened throughout SA. I stopped at their Medical area location for some tea and a muffin. To be truthful, my drink of choice is usually coffee, but I am not a big fan of Bakery Lorraine's coffee. I am not sure if it is the coffee itself or the way it is brewed, but it has a bitter too-much coffee taste. In fact, I find that a lot of places in this city tend to do this. The "hipper" the place, the more bitter the coffee. I can never seem to get past the first sip. Since I have had meals at Lorraine since its inception, I know this was not always the case, so I'm not sure what changed. The cakes at their Medical area were varied and the place was not crowded at all, which I loved. Their cakes are always pretty good, and this was the case of the muffin I purchased. It was worth the visit. For a beverage and cake stop, Bakery Lorraine certainly works. Maybe, at some point, their coffee will improve, but meanwhile, their other beverages, make it a good choice.

I too, downloaded this app to review this bakery!! I never leave reviews but this place is amazing!! The avocado toast with smoked salmon was the best I ever had. I enjoyed it with an Iced Brown sugar latter. Beautiful place to sip your drink and study! Or catch up with family or friends. Super friendly staff and very attentive. Stop by and support local

Gigantic Almond Croissant! Looks half the size in a display case. So delicious and flaky- reminded me of the ones in London!
    Katie N.

This place is always phenomenal. Simple coffees with big time pastries. Their almond croissants remind me of those I've had in Europe- so decadent. They have a large indoor area and a pretty big back patio with seating. I'd like to go back when I have more time to order food from the menu versus being on the run and grabbing a pastry.

Bakery goood. Coffee goood. Food goood. Vibe , seating , staff all so so good! every time i come here they never disappoint. One of the rare coffee shops that has really good Americano. Its not too light of a roast so i love it. There's a lot of seating and even outside. so when the weather is nice out def come. Because its a bakery i didn't expect much for their food options but omgosh all their sandwhiches and other food items come out in pretty big portions. so its definitely worth it.

Met up for lunch and had the chicken salad sandwich and a cheese sandwich with tomato soup. It was a great experience. Everything was so flavorful. This was the best grilled cheese I've ever had. I will definitely be back to get it again. love that they use different cheeses went perfectly with my tomato soup.

It's been shaped with care, like a well-tuned string on a guitarra, each choice meant to stand on its own but better still when taken together. The flavors come through bold and honest, with a little flourish here and there--nothing overdone, just enough to remind you somebody back there knows what they're about. It's a small spot, sure, but that only draws folks closer. So, when co-workers wanted to go yesterday, I jumped on it. Don't get me wrong. I love the vibe of this place. I LOVE their story. It's very NY/Northeastern deli feel (they're from Pittsburgh, but you get my drift, right!?). No nonsense. Small inside area. No tables inside. Just enough room to look at the menu, order, and go wait outside. I opted for the chicken bacon ranch on hoagie. What came out was a decent size sandwich, but incredibly messy and soggy. There was so much juice/ liquid the sandwich quickly became unmanageable and just disintegrated. Look, if you're going to serve a sandwich that messy, please upgrade your napkins. It was a one bite - two napkin ratio. The sandwich was good, but the mess and difficulty eating it just took away any enjoyment. Additionally, the flies outside rivaled the worst I've experienced. Do you remember the scene in the Lost World, Jurassic Park movie when the hunters found the Rex nest!? Okay, okay, maybe not that bad, but it was a lot. Hang some fly bags or strips or somethin'. Found price to be a little high. By the time I bought chips and a drink, plus tip: $22. Just FYI: my co-worker disagrees. He thought it was the BEST SANDWICH HE'D EVER HAD. So, yes, go give them a try, but bring a beach towel for clean up.

While preparing my sandwich, I watched the employee place ham directly on the scale without wiping it down, using parchment, or putting down any kind of barrier. When I asked if they could place something underneath the meat before weighing it, the response was simply that they "sanitize it." The scale clearly wasn't clean. I could still see leftover meat on it and given that this location serves chicken, turkey, roast beef, pork, and more, cross-contamination should be a major concern. Customers should never have to point out that a dirty scale needs to be wiped before food is placed on it. What makes this even more frustrating is that I've experienced this same issue at other Potbelly's locations. I drove farther out to this store specifically hoping it would be different, but unfortunately the same unsanitary practice was happening here as well. Food safety should always come first, and this experience left me questioning whether proper sanitary practices are being followed across the chain.
