    a menu for a restaurant

Appears where all the locals go. There was a line to get inside. We waited probably just 10 minutes for a table, which wasn't terrible. The wait staff was nice, but appeared a little overwhelmed. The restaurant is a little out dated. Could use a fresh coat of paint and replacement of stained ceiling tiles. The food was decent. We got the fried chicken burger, which was good. The fried okra was good and fresh. Was disappointed in the crab cakes. The menu said "fresh from the gulf" thinking I was going to get me some good crab cakes, was disappointed to get imitation crab cakes. Would not recommend this from the menu. Kids had the fried shrimp (not fresh from the gulf) and a grilled cheese which was good. The only conflicting thing is that the restaurant identified and named themselves a bakery but they had only had 3 options in the desert options. No pastries, fresh bread, or desserts. They cater more like a diner for lunch and dinner.

Took my Dad to Bakery Cafe today because he wanted a diner-type breakfast before driving back to his home in Dallas. Bakery Cafe served that purpose for us, but it wasn't anything special and wouldn't get on my list of places I'm planning to visit again soon. It is a small-town diner/cafe, through and through, nothing more. Think simple breakfasts, black coffee, & burgers. Their menu wont surprise you, their dishes wont wow you with presentation or taste, it has a musty/old smell about it, & it may take longer than you think it should. But you can be fed here.

I seriously don't know what took me so long to finally dine at the Bakery Cafe in Aransas Pass. This place was established in 1929!!! Our waitress was so nice and they seem to have plenty of workers! The place is very well kept! We went old school. We started off with an order of basic nachos...refried beans with melted cheese on top of light crispy corn tortillas and an order of beer battered onion rings!! Both were delicious! The onion rings were full of flavor, light, crunchy and sweet. Mom ordered herself a simple bowl of delicious chili and I ordered a Homemade cheeseburger with fries! Everything met our expectations! Been a long time since I've enjoyed a true original homemade cheeseburger! Slice of apple pie for later!

    Mushy nasty fired oysters.

Good home cooking. Not much on seasoning outside of salt and pepper. Very nice staff and very helpful.

Nothing fancy loved the ambiance. Immediately greeted and self select of a table. A little bit of a wait for menus and drink orders buts that's okay, Rockport is a laid back place on my opinion. I had the 2-egg (choice of scrambled) with hash browns and choice of meat-Canadian Bacon and toast, I chose an English Muffin. My husband had the grits but asked for Catfish instead of Shrimp and they obliged. Thank you Chef!! Overall I enjoyed my first experience at JJ's and will most definitely return for lunch. I overheard the chicken fried steak is a winner.

We have lived in Rockport for a year now and I would imagine I have frequented this establishment…read moreprobably 30 times during that year. Always great service, excellent food and great prices. Guess something has changed. That all got ruined by one rude employee today. Came in this morning at 10:10 and ordered a migas breakfast plate to share. The waitress asked us if we wanted flour or corn tortilla(s)! I said can we have both please. She said I will have to charge you for the extra tortilla. I'm sure she knew I looked astounded but I said how much is a tortilla. Response: I don't know I would have to ring it up to know that... I simply said if it's more than a dollar for a tortilla I don't want it and I did say charging for a tortilla with migas is nuts as she walked off. So it's now 10:40, keep in mind no meat in the micas only onions, tomatoes and eggs. The onions were huge and raw, so 25 minutes to basically cook two scrambled eggs. There were only two other tables with customers so they were not busy at all. Never had that happen here before but just wait. Food comes and The server sets down the plate with one flour tortilla and an aluminum roll with two more corn tortillas, ok that's good. She adds, I just went ahead and brought you a couple corn tortillas at no charge. Didn't mention "paying" for them for us! We thanked her and went about splitting and eating our breakfast. About that time another server walks over, not the owner, not the owners daughter but just another server and says directly to me in a very condescending and rude tone " your server was nice enough to PAY for your extra tortillas but in the future don't expect that to happen ever again"! Wtf! She felt the need to come over and try to shame me over a freaking tortilla that was none of her business to begin with. I responded don't worry about it because I will never be back! I then asked to speak to the owners, weren't there but daughter of owner was. Explained the situation and while she was apologetic for the rude waitress she also tried to add about the economy and blah blah blah but seriously. We all know the economy sucks but charging more than $1 for a tortilla that they sell at Walmart next door for $2.99 for a 20 pack. Give me a break. So will not be returning to or promoting this breakfast/lunch spot to any more of my visiting friends, family or my community. I guess JJ's is off our list. It's a shame too.

Being on island time has kind of thrown off our internal clocks, we lost track of…read moretime, and when 7pm rolled around we realized we were hungry lol We knew what we wanted MacDaddy's BBQ, during our 7 hour drive to get here we pulled up Yelp to search for some new restaurant options, and after seeing the photos and positive reviews we knew this spot was on our list! What we didn't think about was it being a weekday and closing times, we just goofed! So anyway once we realized the restaurant closed at 8:00pm according to Google we got a little worried, being that I work in a restaurant I know how overwhelming it can be to see customers coming in less than an hour until close, fortunately my hubs double checked here on Yelp and then their website and found the closing time was 8:30pm, so we hopped in the car and got there as soon as we could, and we were relieved to see a few people still eating, and another arriving just after we pulled in. There was a little curfuffle once we were sat, the hostess initially offered us a table with bench seating, but one of us isn't able to sit on a bench due to disability, she kindly offered us a table with chairs, in what appeared to be a different servers section, we were close to the TV on the same wall as the front counter, anyway, after sitting a few minutes Johnathan greeted us and took our drink orders to get us started. The ambiance is so relaxed, there was trivia on a couple of the TV's good music, and lots of cool merch to buy, some of the shirts really made me laugh. We quickly made our selections, hubs got the one meat and two sides and opted for the pork ribs, they were cooked to perfection, and he was delighted considering that we were there the last hour of the day, he really enjoyed his meal, I too opted for the one meat and two sides, selecting the regular sausage, and it was delicious. The highlight was Johnathan, he was friendly, made recommendations, and offered dessert, which we couldn't resist, deciding on the German Chocolate cake, with a side of ice cream. We had to take that to go, we couldn't eat another bite. They have two choices for BBQ sauce, hubs got spicy, and I got regular, and I am glad cuz I'm a yellow bellied tender foot, I tasted the spicy and it IS spicy so for all of you that enjoy the heat, I think you will like their, tomato forward sauce. I usually like to dip each bite of my sausage in BBQ sauce, this particular flavor was just different, I think I will have to try it again, it wasn't typical Texas-esque smoky BBQ sauce, more like ketchup as the base and then flavors and spices added to make it their own, we did find it slightly odd that BBQ sauce doesn't automatically come with the meals, we had to ask for it, but one of the things I REALLY like about MacDaddy's layout is it's a TRUE sit down restaurant with servers vs going thru a cafeteria style line to get our food, ironically as we drove down and talked about wanting to find a BBQ spot, and in that conversation I mentioned that I'd love to find one that's not self serve, being that one of us is disabled it can add a lot of extra work for the other, we come down twice a year if possible and have been doing so for at least 10 years, and had never found a dedicated BBQ place, we have now, the food was good, the service was friendly and the vibe was casual and relaxing, we will definitely be back!

Glad we made the stop... living closer to the bbq capital of texas i was surprised by the brisket here, it was pretty good as was the turkey. we asked our waitress Joanna what sides she liked and ended up trying the potato salad, beans brussel sprouts, mac & chs, all of which were damn good!! the potato salad has a twist on it but it is a good one. the corn bread is some of the best ive ever had, EVER!! Our waitress was very polite and would definitely make it one of our stops when in town again.
