After finally trying Bakersfield, I can confidently say I think there's better places for Mexican fusion and tacos in the city. Service was okay given how busy it was, it's a popular spot before concerts and sporting events, but the entire staff seemed disorganized. We grabbed a spot at the bar while we waited for our table, the bartender wasn't the friendliest when I asked about the non-alcoholic options but I gave him the benefit of the doubt because it was the weekend rush. There was confusion with our table so after that was sorted we were finally seated at a sticky table with bench seating, which was not comfortable. But hey, we were hungry and it's what they had. However, a note for restaurants everywhere, no one ever wants to sit at a wooden picnic table indoors. The chips and various salsas were a highlight. The tacos were hit or miss. The carnitas one was good but the fish taco tasted borderline spoiled. The rice and beans were good. Starting by saying I placed my order through Doordash so this is on food and carryout/delivery service only. No comments on interior design or service as of yet. I placed my order later (around 8p) on a Sunday evening and the location is pretty close to home so I thought it should be an easy and pleasant transaction. Hours online said they didn't close until 10p and I had been wanting to try this place for a while. I immediately had a dasher assigned who arrived to the location in a fairly timely manner. My order must not have been ready yet because for the next half hour the DD app showed my dasher going about other parts of Midtown. Allegedly they returned to the restaurant after that but then they were unassigned from my order and I was now waiting on a dasher. Second dasher got assigned and she seemed to wait for my food for a while as well but it finally arrived after over an hour (half a mile away from me mind you). My food was all super cold by time it had arrived and the restaurant notated on the receipt they were out of one of the items I had ordered. Pretty mindblown no one from the store took the two minutes to call me and update me on that since my order was with the restaurant for so long in the first place. They took it upon themselves to substitute something at least but it's still unsatisfactory when you're expecting one thing and given another without being asked. No idea what was transpiring with the initial dasher being at the store and then leaving, etc but either way pretty poor service from both DD and the restaurant. The only reason this isn't a 1 star is because the food I did receive was decent even though it was cold. The queso would have been better hot as the cheese was literally starting to harden on top. 3 out of 4 tacos had really good flavor. I loved the al pastor taco and the shrimp taco the best. Chicken taco was pretty good. I would skip the fish taco next time as it was nothing special and I felt it tasted too fishy. The guac that they gave me but I didn't order was fresh, but lacking flavor. I've made better batches at home. Super bummed I didn't get to try the Esquites. I also felt the tacos were teeny tiny for what I paid (even after a promotion it was still almost $40). Came on a Saturday night with reservations and it was packed but we were sat quickly! Our server was quick as well which was nice bec we had tickets for a show. Now the chips were AWFUL like a pile of grease the server did get us new ones upon request but that's just how the chips were which was absolutely unfortunate but the short rib queso was good at least!! My girlfriend and I came here after a Tiger's game. We had passed by many times and it always smelled amazing. We were seated right away and ordered the dinner for 2, which is one dip, two bocaditos or app/sides, and 6 tacos. We also shared a pineapple margarita. We added chorizo to our queso, so an $11 dip, and it was smaller than we expected. However, it was very tasty. Our bocaditos came, she had the rice and beans $7, and I had the stuffed poblano pepper $10. Outside of one taco, this was our favorite part of the meal. The rice and beans were cooked perfectly and tasted great. My stuffed poblano left me wanting another one. (Total $25 or $28 w/ chorizo) The only reason im including pricing is to point out that $27 dollars went to six tacos. So each one was $4.50 They were street taco sized... Pictures all show what we got. The only one i would recommend would be the baja shrimp taco, it was killer. The rest were nothing to write home about. I've been here a couple of times now... I've tried a few different things on the menu. It's a great place with a great atmosphere and the perfect location to grab a bite to eat before an event downtown. Service is always great. The food comes quickly even when the restaurant is over crowded with fans dining out before a game. The tacos are okay. The short rib queso is okay. I asked for some tajin to sprinkle on-top and it took the dish up a a few notches. I really think they should consider just putting that on there in the 1st place. The dish went from a 5/10 to a 9/10. It was amazing after the fact. The tajin tastes so good, I like to lick it off the rim of my drink (no shame). They put it on the rim of the pineapple margarita which I'm very obsessed with. That was the only thing on the menu that I truly love and will rave about. I got it every time I went. WOW! Where do I begin? Visiting Detroit for the first time I was looking for a place to grab dinner near a family member's hotel. Bakersfield DET had good reviews, and I was able to make a reservation on a Monday at 5:30 for 4 of us. The host was so friendly and accommodating to find us a table that would be better for one of us who uses a cane to get around. He was so kind and positive. Two of us went on a Thursday at 4pm with no reservations just as they opened. It's bench style seating with a country/western theme to it and TVs all around. We were seated right away and our drink orders taken. Within 3 minutes our cocktails arrived and we were able to place our order for apps and entrees right after. To start off we got the honeydew margarita and the grapefruit radler cocktail. Both were delicious! I'm not much of a drinker and that was the first time I finished a margarita by myself. We chose the dinner for two that included chips & dip, 2 apps, and 6 tacos for $26 per person which wasn't too bad for all that was included. We ordered the basic chips and salsa that came with a salsa roja and salsa verde. The verde was my favorite of the two since it was more sour. The roja was just a bit too sweet for me. For apps, we ordered the esquites and the chicken taquitos as well. The esquites, while they were good, we expected it to be a hot dish rather than a cold dish but still enjoyed it and even dipped our chips into it like a salsa. The chicken taquitos were such a surprise when they arrived to the table plated beautifully and made with blue corn tortillas! We loved them. We tried several different tacos including the pollo verde, carnitas, fish, and al pastor. Each taco had it's own unique flavor and were also well-presented. I'm a huge fan of this place! If you like a trendy, more american rather than traditional taco, you will love it here too. Surely they have more food than tacos but come on, $4.50 a piece isn't bad for a nicer establishment. You can pick between chicken, steak, mushroom, fish... i think even a few more options. You must pay for chips and salsa... but the ~$10 for salsa trio is soooo worth it. Comes with 3 different options all with different taste profiles. On weekends, maybe even weeknights if you're inpatient, I'd recommend making a reservation. You may still have to a wait a little bit for your reservation on a busy day at dinner. They definitely pack them in here. They even have high top standing tables as an option...which I don't understand but if you do- request one!. Because of its popularity understand it is a louder environment, but not a sports bar type. Several TVs play only westerns. There is NO PARKING lot or designated area so understand if youre driving you're gonna be fighting for street parking in very busy midtown area. My best advice is park at brush park and walk a block. Bakersfield is pretty solid. You can get some good whiskey, you can get some good tequila options, you get some food at the same time. Drinks are actually pretty good from there. They have a mezcal Margarita. That's actually pretty solid. There's a very nice and spacious bar area so there's plenty of places to sit at the bar. They also have copious amounts of seeding outside of the bar. So you really don't have an excuse unless packed to the brim. Getting yours going to be right on Woodward but there's of course, street parking. You can pay to get parking in the front of the building or along the sides around where the gray ghost is. But there's options. If it's a busy night, you may have to do a little bit of circling the block. Again I will say the food is good. This night, the last night that I went, it really wasn't warm like I would have thought it should have been. The last thing you want is almost warm. Okay, so we're almost warm tacos. But the flavor was still there. Short rib queso - The dip was good. Very good. It had plenty of case all around it and had plenty of chunks of meat and other additions that were very helpful to the flavor. Stuffed pepper - The pepper could have been warmer as I've mentioned, but it had a really good flavor to it. It was stuffed to the brim. It had a lot of kick to it. So if you're into something with a little bit of spice this is probably good for you to try. Short rib taco - This taco was good. It was a little bit dry but not like it was killing the taco, but it was noticeable. Chicken taco - pretty solid. This one was suffering trying to say anything. I mentioned earlier that it really could have been a little bit warmer or piping hot hopefully. But the flavor was there. It had the meat and the sweet put together very well. If you're headed to Little Caesar's arena, this is a great option for dinner/drinks before the game! They have a huge bar area with fantastic margaritas. They have some interesting margarita flavors but the OG with a salted rim on the rocks is the best. Also, for those doing Dry January or don't drink alcohol, they also offer to make some of the margaritas without alcohol. Love this option as I've been drinking a lot less alcohol these days. Onto the food, THE thing to get here is the torta Milanese. It is the only torta on the menu and it is delicious. The chicken is fried to perfection and the sauces they put on it are so tasty. You honestly could split this with someone with a chips & guacamole order and be more than full. Best taco was not the shrimp but the short rib - it was tender and mixed well with onion and radish. The order for me was 1) short rib, 2) fish. 3/4) shrimp/Pollo, 5) carnitas. Fish was juicy ans well fries. I had the LOWEST expectation for the chicken but this turned out incredibly tender and juicy. Shrimp was a disappointment and did not live up to the high expectation. The lowest was carnitas. Could not chew; it was not tender. Dry and unpleasant. BUT, the winner was the chicken cutlet sandwich. It reminded me chicken katsu in sandwich form. Beautifully fried abs crispy AND STAYED THAT WAY even after I got home. Arugula added a hint of needed freshness from the meat. Good, filling bread. It was a warm day so they had the big windows open so you can enjoy the weather and people watching down Woodward. The margarita pitcher is a great deal if anyone in your group plans to get more than 1 margarita. The guacamole is very fresh. The queso was good. I was disappointed in the tacos. While they were loaded fillings, i found the tortilla to be dry and smaller than expected. The short rib taco felt like it should have been tossed in some of the short rib juices.
