5/5 Stars - Unmatched Pies and Cherished Memories ​Bakers Square will always hold a special place in my heart. Their pies are truly phenomenal--especially around the holidays when picking up a fresh, delicious pie makes hosting so much easier. While it's disappointing that so many Illinois locations (like the one in Orland) have closed, leaving the closest spot across the border in Indiana, I'm so grateful for the years of great food and memories. Bakers Square offers the best pie experience around, and I truly wish they would open more locations again. Highly recommended! read more

It pains me to leave this review because my wife and I used to love going to the Baker's Square in Orland Park, IL. Granted that was over a decade ago, but maybe the food was as good as we remembered. Not a chance. She had the fish and chips, and I had the club sandwich. The club was throw together sloppily with chunks of lunch meat stuck together and hobbled into the sandwich, and the bacon was burnt, greasy, and disgusting. The worst of the two was the fish...it was inedible. My wife had one bite and pushed her plate away. It was way too greasy and the fish somehow was translucent, not flaky and white like fish should be. We didn't even order pie, we just wanted to get out of there. read more

I was really disappointed with my meal at Baker Square. The food looked good, but it had almost no flavor. Everything tasted bland and underseasoned, making it feel like very little effort went into the preparation. I expected much better, especially for the price. My husband and I are always satisfied with our meal here. He gets breakfast and I usually have the turkey dinner(and of course, delicious pie!) We appreciate that the pot of coffee is left at the table, as well. What I would like to rave about though is our waitress, Kimberly (Kim.) We had an especially hectic morning, fielding some important phone calls and not being ready to order for a while. Kim took it all in stride, never rushing us or being annoyed that she had to come back several times to see if we were ready. She was just so patient, cheerful, and understanding in a situation that likely would have irritated most people. I have had her as my waitress other times as well, when out with my girlfriends. Went here for the all you can eat Fish Fry. I was extremely pleased with this special. It was Cod fish deep fried in a good batter. Not too thick and not to thin batter. The server kept checking on us to make sure we had more fish. The Manager came buy 2 times to check on us. The place is family oriented, quiet, and clean. No loud crowd or cussing teens. The staff is polite and attentive. So get there on Fridays for the all you can eat Cod Fish before the special is over. Enjoy it. Have a piece of pie too. read more

I'll start with the food from this restaurant. I picked up some pies for my family event and they were delicious. I bought the French apple pie and pumpkin pie with whip cream and they were perfect. I warmed up the apple pie just a bit and added some whip cream and it was delicious. Service was good the waitress that attended me was fast and respectful. I have not eaten at Bakers Square in at least 8 years, and I use to love this restaurant. However, my cousin and I came here for breakfast and I was pleasantly surprised! Since I had not been to the restaurant in so long, I did not have many expectations, but everything was so good. I ordered the Create your own Omelette with sausage and lite cheese, pancakes and French fries. My omelette was cooked to perfection; however, there was still a little too much cheese, but it was still good. The fries were so good, but I was disappointed because I remember the fries being steaked, but these were crinkle fries. Lastly the pancakes were so good with the warm syrup. Also, the prices are definitely reasonable. Our server was really attentive and the service was fast. Fast service and good food! My cousin and I came here on a Saturday for brunch and it was a somewhat crowded, but they got people seated, and the restaurant was actually clean. The waitress didn't let us know that you had to order a beverage to get the free pie and she lied to the Manager, saying she told us and the Manager was no help when we complained. Out and about getting our running around accomplished, we came across Bakers Square!!!! We haven't dined here in years. The atmosphere walking in the door felt we just walked right up in Grandma's house! Our server Amber was friendly, her smile comforting, and her Southern accent was further reminiscent of being in Grandma's kitchen. I ordered the Fish n Chips minus the chips, but with a side of Green Beans that were actually delicious!!! I had a side salad with their house made Ranch dressing which was by -the-way on point. The hubby had pot roast and gravy with veggies and mushrooms and a side of Broccoli and Garlic Toast, he said the meat was tender and the gravy was just right. He actually snapped a pic and sent it to our daughter to prove he actually had veggies on his plate. The food was reasonably priced, and served piping hot. No additional seasonings were needed. Of course you cannot come to Bakers Square and leave without at least a slice of Pie!!! I chose Key Lime, the Hubby had the famous French Silk. Getting a slice of Their Pie is like being rewarded for good behavior, or being on the Honor Roll... you just feel like I must have done something fantastic to get this treat! What a pleasant surprise! I haven't been to a Baker's Square in years. I used to purchase pies but very seldom ate at one. Frankly, I wasn't a fan of the food; however, this changed today. We stopped here for breakfast. I ordered a make your own omelette with avocado, pepper Jack cheese, tomatoes and onions. The portion size was perfect and the omelette was delicious! I ate a pancake and some of my hash browns. The potatoes were a bit too crispy for my taste but the coffee was quite good. Overall, the meal was delicious! The prices are good, too. Lynette, our server, and Brittany, our hostess, were friendly and welcoming. Their hospitality, the good food, and outstanding service are reasons I plan to return. read more

I used to frequent the bakery in CA. Years ago...I ordered the breakfast 4 for $9.99. I chose 2 eggs sunny side up,2 Turkey sausage, hashbrowns and 2 slices of French toast. It came relatively quick hot and tasty. What impressed me was the hot syrup for the toast. The carafe of coffee didn't help either... Great experience for $9.99.... no pie this time. read more

Upon entering the restaurant the server was very pleasant and let me choose where I wanted to set. As I sat there I checked out the setting and the Salt & Pepper Shakers and they were filthy, the menus needed to be cleaned, but everything else was great. My order came within 15 minutes and it was so good. Full of flavor, pleasant to the eyes and large portion sizes. I had coffee and it was a bit bitter to me so I had to doctor it up. All in all a good cleaning of items used between customers would be a great additive and cleaning of the menu's would make for a healthier environment. read more

Maybe it's because I grew up with the food. Maybe it's the delicious honey mustard, Or maybe pie? Especially if it's Free pie Wednesday. I LOVE Baker Square! I wish they had one in Indianapolis or Hamilton county. My favorite entree is the Stir Fry Chicken Pita, but the honey mustard chicken is also delicious... The menu here doesn't have too many options. I ended up just ordering the Chicken Tender Dinner with Fries. My girlfriend and I also shared a bowl of Tomato Basil Soup. The soup arrived and it came with crackers. They didn't serve any bread or rolls along with it, which was disappointing. The soup was good, but I wish it had a thicker base and more tomato chunks. The Chicken Tender Dinner was pretty average. It wasn't anything extraordinary and for the price of about $12, I'd definitely say to take a pass on them. The fries were seasoned nicely and were good to dip into the barbecue sauce. The ranch was runny and I don't recommend to try it. The honey mustard sauce was smooth and complimented the chicken tenders nicely. The dinner included a slice of pie for Free Pie Wednesday. I chose the Country Apple. The crust wasn't even held together. The entire slice dropped down with the apples. The flavor was hardly detectable. There was nothing good about the pie. It was a waste of calories. I can see why it's free. The service was alright. Things seemed to move slow, especially with us ordering basic dinners and the restaurant not being that crowded. Overall, I'm not impressed at all. The food is for the most part, flat-out average with the exception of the prices being too high. The quality just doesn't match. read more

My mom and I stopped by to get a few slices of pie to go. First strike was that the menu has been stripped of many of our favorites. We selected a slice of coconut cream for my dad and got slices of pecan and french silk to share (and possibly create a semblance of the pecan silk they used to have). When we got home to eat our pie, the coconut cream was fresh and silky and matched my dad's expectations. The other two slices were nowhere near what one would expect for the price. The texture of the French silk's filling was gritty and stiff. The crust tasted like it had been in the refrigerator much too long. The pecan was 100% inedible. It was like sugary gelatin and, like the French silk, the crust had an old taste like it sat next to some bad leftovers in the fridge. Three slices of pie, $16, and two of them went in the trash. It was late and I was put on hold/ignore when I called to speak to a manager. When I called back, they didn't answer! I'd Give them ZERO stars if I could! read more

Amazing experience. Staff was friendly and helpful above and beyond expectations. Baker's Square French Silk pie is my dad's favorite treat, and we happened to be driving near a Bakers Square on our cross country trip. We got 3 pies which they helped us pack up so they will get back safe to NJ, they even gave us 2 huge bags of ice for our cooler. I was mad about the pie that last review (it was a bad day) but I'm updating to say that I DID get pie to go again but the lady said the pieces were a little small so she put 3 slices in boxes for me. You can tell this place stopped caring about their food quality a long time ago. My husband and I came excited to eat here last night and the food seemed like it was microwaved and from a package at best. Very disappointing. Our server Micheal was wonderful. He was prompt, attentive & friendly. My beverage on this chilly rainy night was hot tea. But the water was just above warm, not actually hot! My husband had soup, fish & chips w/ coleslaw side. He ate every single bite! When it comes to coleslaw he is picky and usually complains..not so with the slaw here. He also tends to be picky about his fish. Hates it when it's too dry, overcooked or greasy. Like I said he ate every bite w/o 1 compliant. My patty melt w/ fries filled me up. Just enough onions, cheese and cooked perfectly. I had French apple pie for dessert. Unfortunately I did not realize they would serve it straight out of a cooler. For some reason i thought hot apple pie when i ordered it and was disappointed when it was served so cold. Maybe they should post that or ask of you want it heated up. They did inform us that they are going to be doing away w/ handheld menus and going to an online menu only. It think this will be a big mistake, but hey I don't get to make those decisions. Recently, we visited this location on a Saturday night, three (3) people total. The receptionist took our name and we waited and we waited, standing for nearly 30 minutes. The waiting bench was full and there were many empty tables before us. OK! So you're short of help and can't seat people at the empty tables. That's your problem not ours! We should have been seated at an empty table, rather than to be made to stand and wait on our feet. Some elderly people can't stand that long on their tired feet and legs. This is unacceptable and unprofessional, especially when tables and chair were empty and clearly in our view. I looked at the receipt and it was the the usual $4.99 so I asked the waitress what's up with the half of cake? She checked with someone and said that's the way it is now. I asked again at the register and they said "corporate" made them reduce the size. As much as I like this location and the people there, I won't be coming back for the pie/cake. There is one reason to come here: pie. Every kind and they are almost all good. Whatever you order, save room for pie. You have to. Thanksgiving week was Baker's Square pie week in my life. The French silk is stellar; pumpkin got good reviews, as did the apple. I liked the pecan turtle, and the French apple as well. The food at Baker's Square is along the lines of Perkins, or any of those other chain diner style places. This is type of place you go to in high school and drink hot chocolate and coffee and talk for hours without ordering anything because you're not old enough to do anything else. Or the type of place you go to because you remember that they have good pie, but then after eating there you say, "I'm glad we ate here but let's not do that again." And then three or four years from now, you do it again because you remember that you think the pie is good (it is). Breakfast served all day, bottomless coffee, a variety of entrees. I can't tell if he is the owner or just a manager, but his name was Tom and he was the rudest person I have ever met in a family environment. I get treated better at Ed DeBevick's in Chicago---If you've been there, you'll know what I'm talking about. He was rude with his hostess, mocking her in a way she she greeted my wife and I with a smile. I paid up front and he cashed me out, didn't even say "have a nice day" so I did and he just turned around and walked away. Never going back there again, unless he is FIRED. "You're not in Kansas anymore" is what I was thinking being back in IN driving around on Christmas day looking for a place to eat. Even most of the McDonald's were closed. Several Chinese restaurants were open, but fried rice and Christmas don't seem to be an ideal match. My family was out of town and I was craving a full Turkey dinner. As it turns out, Baker's Square was the only restaurant open with a decent menu (the McDonald's close by was also open). It was very busy and I so didn't want to be lost in a crowd. To my surprise, I was seated within 10 minutes AND there was a special menu which included a full turkey dinner with a free slice of pie for $12.99. It seemed made to order for what I was looking for. Being that I had mashed potatoes the night before, I opted to get a potato pancake with my dinner. So, there's opportunity to augment the traditional turkey dinner menu, but choosing different sides. I chose raspberry pie (Yum!). I would have to say the food was good. The turkey was just a little dry, but I don't think there's a good way of serving turkey to the masses without this happening. It did taste freshly sliced and that's all that matters as there was plenty of gravy on the turkey and stuffing. The service was also fast and cordial as I know the staff was working its butt off. I also saw large families having their Christmas dinner there, most were Christians and a few were of other faiths that don't celebrate Christmas. Interesting! Amazing pies but that is all that is good here. Waited 30 minutes to be seated while half the dinning room was empty. Then we waited over an hour after being seated for our meal which of all 3 meals not 1 was made correctly. Our waiter Paul tried his best to keep us happy and the wait was not his fault. The kitchen was extremely slow and lacking. The menu is not at all like it used to be. It's either breakfast, a burger, sandwich. They used to have a wider variety. Our group will not be returning to this location unless it's to pick up a pie which they still do well. read more
