I was down…read more280 for a meeting and my wife asked me to stop by and get some fabric she needed for a project. That may not sound like a lot. But the fact that she had to tell me how to even get the fabric cut and paid for should tell you how blind I was going in. After navigating my way through painted quotes, giant fake flowers, and light up fixtures of things you see at the top of the number keys on your computer, I found my way to the fabric section. Well things only got uglier from there. They have everything from plain white satin, to spider-man fleece! I took about 15 seconds of walking through and decided to seek some help. A very friendly lady was helping cut some fabric and asked if I needed help. Even during the middle of her project, she noticed a puzzled (and might I say handsome) man standing in the middle of Fabric-opolis. Once she was done and able to help, she was not quite sure what exactly I needed. I learned she was normally in the floral department and someone else was the "section expert". We started discussing the bounty I was seeking and a by-standing customer laughed that simply looking for this ONE item, was not as simple as it sounded. On our way to where she thought this might be, we came across the true guardian of textile goods. She was more than happy to show us both where the drapery liner was. You could tell both of these ladies were friendly, funny, and happy to help however they could. Even when the surprise of MULTIPLE drapery linings (hence the other shopper's chuckle at my threaded naivety). After discussing the project and what would be best, we took our spool and cut away. I was packaged up and out of there in no time. Though times were tough in my lonesome quest through this Lobby of Hobby's, the employees were just as outstanding (if not more) than most I have come across in many stores.

I've heard of the Brass Bear when I've been to a few estate sales. So when I looked over while…read moredriving by and saw it, I figured I'd check it out. Kind of a mistake. It's a pretty big store, and there is a lot to see. I'm sure there are many fabulous items, but it's not really a place to "stop in and check it out." I think you have to both be in the mood/frame-of-mind to really look at everything and have the time to do it. You could very easily spend all day there. "Just browsing" isn't going to cut it. That said, I had neither the time nor the inclination to spend the time to really give it a good shopping. Instead I found it overwhelming, so I just politely walked most of the aisles only looking at the things that really jumped out at me. Because it was a Saturday, there seemed to be a number of vendors there, so I'm sure there are some interesting stories to be told, and they could surely help if you're searching from something specific.

First things first. The pricing was PHENOMENAL. The day I went was 50% certain colored tags, although those were few and far between, mostly for less desirable items. Huge selection for clothing, as well as appliances that were reasonable (used 7-8qt Crockpot for $30, air fryers, etc) and decor/glass and plateware. I did not get the chance to see the books section but it was back there as well. Great mens section for dress shirts and pants. Unusually, they had a pack of paper in the paper goods/office/school aisle. Free Bibles in the front when you walk in. Several videos of third world scenes in Africa and what you donate toward. Worship music throughout the store. The ministry aspect was very apparent and actually made me a little uncomfortable, although we need more good causes these days. Not every shopper may be comfortable with the forwardness of that though, but I am very happy I could visit and see this new establishment!

The outside section of the store has lots of sports and durable medical equipment; plus there's luggage and pet carriers. But the book, music and housewares are my favorite sections of the store, because the prices are so low. I honestly can't believe I used to pay full price for fictional books - never again. There's also plenty of free parking that makes for an enjoyable experience.
