I came in expecting this to be more of a vintage, re-seller situation. Southeastern Salvage is really more of a home-improvement, new/overstock furniture spot. They have things like doors and windows in addition to some outdoor furniture, interesting (tacky) art, dog bedding, and rugs. I strolled through the furniture and they have a good selection of dressers, sideboards, and buffets, but the prices were still steep. I loved a couple larger pieces that were all over $800. For that price, I think you're better off opting for the luxurious experience elsewhere. Somewhere like Nadeau in Homewood or more of an actual vintage store. As for service, nobody spoke to me, but I was just waltzing through. The front doors were confusing and broken and unwelcoming. Honestly, this place is a maze and generally an unpleasant shopping experience. It would be worth it if you really found a deal, though. read more

First time coming here and I'm ready for another visit! I loved looking around! This place has lots to look at and has some relatively , reasonably priced items . Lots of decorative items , well made furniture pieces , a garden center , odds and ends, faucets , etc. I was happy at how organized everything was displayed. Typically a store that offers these many items tend to be junky to me. This store wasn't junky at all! Unfortunately, the store was closing shortly after arriving but I still had time to shop. I live reasonably close to this store and it it one of my favorite places to shop for our home. Sometimes there's less to see than others, but overall this place has been amazing... until today. My parents and I dropped in to grab a flower pot as I got one too few this past weekend when I was there. We walked up to the automatic door and it didn't open. Assuming there was a malfunction, we just approached the exit door and it popped right open. A young lady approached us and immediately said, "We close at 6". "Oh, is it already 6?", I replied. "It's 5:51", she said. I then said, "Oh, I just need to grab a pot. It'll just take a minute. I know exactly what I need."... and we headed off to the garden center to find that they had already closed that door too. I went back up front and said, "I need to get in the garden center. Can someone open the door?" A gentleman who was walking from that direction (and had obviously just closed said door) did an about-face, clearly not happy about it, and went and opened the door. I got the pot... brought it to the register and checked out. The same young lady who alerted us of the store hours (of which we were never in violation and still weren't) was able to only muster enough courtesy to speak out my total. As I was leaving, I said "thank you" in the same kind tone I always do when I check out (check your cameras if you don't believe me) and the young lady walked over to the other register and flatly ignored me... and yes, then I got pissed. I made diliberate eye contact and said, "THANK YOU!" I didn't scream it, but my point was clear. She at that point did respond and I walked out as she gathered her coworkers, no doubt to tell them a completely false version of what had just occurred. I know that because I saw all of them clucking like hens as we drove away. This won't stop me from ever returning but it'll be a while and I won't have many nice things to say about Southeastern Salvage in the interim. I am not a big fan of those who dangle the amount of money they have spent with a particular business and expect SPECIAL treatment and I am definitely not one of those people. That said, I am also no fan of not being shown common courtesy... especially when I have done nothing wrong and yes... I.have spent a small fortune in that place... as has my mother. No special treatment required... but don't be rude. It's not necessary. For the record, my receipt is time stamped 5:55. I was back on 20 before the clock ever struck 6:00 o'clock. I don't need my you know what kissed, but I won't be flatly ignored by someone who's pissed because she assumes I might extend her work day (which I would NEVER do to a person in that position). I was raised in the grocery business. I've run a front end. This is the best way to run off good business, I promise. Do better. read more

Service....Meh. Selection...Place is crammed full of things that you didn't know you needed, and a few things that you actually may need. Value: I guess that depends on what you count as valuable. My husband and I actually found a couple of rugs there that were really nice and at a very affordable price. My husband had a job binding rugs and creating area rugs for customers in upscale communities. He has found many rugs at S.S. that were quite valuable. read more

This place is absolutely amazing. Every time I'm in Birmingham, I make sure I swing by. It's a huge emporium with a huge rug, furniture, and fixtures selection. Everything is reasonably priced and I like the fact that the store is well organized. I have bought pillows, cloth napkins, indoor decorations, paintings, and other knick knacks--all of great quality. I only wish they had even more kitchen accessories, but I'm biased. read more

You're not always guaranteed to find what you're looking for (since they change out pieces often and it's random items) but when you do find something it's always awesome and at a great price! I bought these fantastic lanterns the other day and probably going back for more. If you're looking for home decor, this is the place for you. It's always worth the trip! They are dog friendly! I love the products here, and you really never know what they have to offer at super discounted prices. I have to say their return policy is rather poor. They tell you that you can return anything, but when I tried to they tried to tell me I didn't get a receipt and could only get store credit. I made two returns on one receipt and wasn't given my original receipt after my first return. Luckily I almost never leave this place empty handed so I had no problem with store credit. Mostly discontinued but decent items like backsplashes, flooring, and countertops so it's a great place to get what you need if you're building a house or doing renovations. read more

Every place I go in this shopping center falls in the same category for me: You can never go to look for something specific. That is the same for Southeaster Salvage. Now you can go here and browse both indoor and outdoor furniture, rugs, and they have a huge plethora of lanterns. But as far as looking for that specific thing you saw online, this is not the place to find it. But that is part of the fun. As many others have said, you never know what you're going to get. This is the type of place that I am not qualified to pick out things for our house. My wife is the only one with that kind of security clearance. But I do enjoy walking around and checking everything out from the cool and expensive to the weird and unusual. I really haven't had much interaction with the staff besides checking out. But it always seems someone is nearby to ask a question if you have it. Overall a pretty cool place to stroll on a Saturday morning. read more

Don't be fooled by the outside - the inside is amazing. Solid, seemingly high quality furniture, tile, vanities, rugs, etc. The furniture is how World Market used to be - the exotic-hardwood furniture appears to be well-built (from Indonesia) and it's beautiful. This wood and the construction is so much better than the press-wood junk that unfortunately America turns out too often. We were pleasantly surprised on a side visit while visiting Irondale Pickers in the same outdoor mall (another great store). read more

I they have furniture, rugs, garden stuff, tiles... And so on! I found Brazilian cow hide rugs for $150! SERIOUSLY?! I'm almost tempted to buy them up, drive them to LA, and sell them for 4x the price! You need to dedicate some time when you go. There is just so much to dig through. First time for me, but my mom is a regular. HUGE whse w/ a little bit of everything - granite slabs, windows, beautiful arched doors, rugs, sofas, mirrors, lighting, and a lot of junk too (wooden sign w/ gun that says We Don't Dial 911). The prices seem to be pretty random to me w/ huge planters for as little as fifty, but a leather couch w/ a huge tear for fifteen hundred. Maybe it's four grand to begin with - not sure. Not a clean looking store, but I didn't expect much. I took off a star for maneuverability. They have shopping carts, but many aisles were blocked b/c of merch in the way. Give it a try if you need furnishings and can dig a little. read more

I have always loved browsing this store, because you never know what you may find. Their selection of unique furniture (from reclaimed wood kitchen islands to patio furniture made out of old barrels that have been welded together) is awesome. Some of it may seem expensive at first glance, but really is not bad given the quality and uniqueness. I love the selection of plant post as well, where the prices are generally about half of what you would pay at a big box store. The selection of flooring and tiling is also awesome, with some incredible prices! You can spend quite a while browsing around, since they have everything from lamps to rugs to doors and toilets...even a garden section in season. Definitely check them out before you make a purchase from a big box store!! read more

I come here often, they have great decor. Some really nice sturdy items for just about every type of style. Also you have all types of various types of price point so something for every budget for sure, I can not complain with the great things I have been able to get from there. One thing I will say that keeps them from getting better review is its warehouse style, but that is not the issue its very disorganized at type and some times that can make it harder to find something you may have seen before or may be interested in. Then the service is not always the best sometimes the workers dont have a good attitude nor appear friendly. I am in the petite to average size frame and it is a struggle for me to get assistance for someone to even offer to help which today kept me from buying more because the guy in the rug section is looking in my direction chatting and not once stopped his convo or made himself available for me to ask for assistance, and walking out to load my items in my car which were still heavy one guy was helping a large man load his truck with something smaller than my purchase and seeing me struggle after he was done with the guy still didn't offer, BUT the customer did its crazy!!!!! Service is everything, it leaves the customer with a good impression to not only return but to also buy more and refer others. So this trip is definitely deserving of 2 stars. read more

I used to like this place, but tonight we bought a huge piece of glass for $150 and they tried to get us to sign a release before they would help us load it up. The release basically said it would be our loss if the glass broke (Even if it was their fault). So, if the worker dropped his end and the glass shattered then I'd be responsible. As my wife was paying a worker helped me load the glass, so as they were trying to get her to sign the release we were already successfully loading. When she refused to sign, the cashier raised his voice and told her she couldn't leave the store without signing the release, even though she had already paid the bill. Of course she said, "Watch me" and walked out. I'm fine with it being my loss if I damage the product, but to refuse to help unless the customer releases them for their negligence is just far too little customer service for my taste. read more
