Really on the fence about Baker- maybe I'm reading too much into it, but when I call it seems like they immediately hate me and want me to go away. I've ordered and picked up three or four small parts from them, and it goes extremely well- they get the part quicker than I expected, they know more about my car than I thought they would, and the part is usually cheaper than I thought it would be.
Today, I called about a belt and got scoffed at for not knowing inches vs. millimeters and he seemed pretty upset about me giving them information I acquired at Pep Boys in inches and then giving it back to Pep Boys in millimeters so I could maybe find the belt I was looking for. When I subsequently asked about buying the correct sized belt from Baker, he said "probably not until Monday" in a way that I took as dismissive. Again, maybe I'm reading too much into this.
On another occasion I called in the morning about getting a thermostat for my car, and whoever answered the phone was kind of rude asking if I was actually going to pick up the item repeatedly like I'm an irresponsible child prank calling businesses for old Mercedes thermostats.
Maybe I'm at the butt end of a long history of customer abuse with this company. Every time I order something and actually go into the store, everything is perfect. They tell me to call even if I just want some knowledge. But the over-the phone customer service is too bad for me to continue a relationship at Baker. They make me feel like I'm an idiot and I should give up trying.
Two stars for operating a great business- the remaining three are for the way someone makes me feel over the phone. read more
