After searching for the best sourdough bakery in the Phoenix area, Proof Bread kept rising (pun absolutely intended) to the top of the list, so I figured it was worth the try. The moment I walked in, I could tell this wasn't your average bakery. The smell alone was enough to convince me I'd made the right choice. I originally came in looking for a classic sourdough loaf, but the woman helping us recommended their weekend special... a freshly baked olive sourdough loaf that was still unsliced. I probably would've overlooked it if she hadn't mentioned it, and I'm so glad she did. It sounded amazing, looked even better, and ended up being the perfect choice. Then came the unexpected touch that won me over. While we waited, she offered us warm, freshly baked chocolate chip cookies straight from the oven. It wasn't a huge gesture, but it was one of those little moments of genuine hospitality that sticks with you. Great customer service isn't always complicated... sometimes it's simply making people feel welcome. The bakery itself was filled with gorgeous breads and other tempting goodies. It was honestly difficult to stop at just one loaf. Now, I'll be honest... Proof Bread isn't inexpensive. The prices are definitely higher than what you'd pay at your neighborhood grocery store or chain bakery. But here's the thing... That olive sourdough didn't survive the evening.
