Maybe five years ago I sampled some cookies from Bake For You at a food and wine festival. Even though others had been raving about both their unique flavors, like Earl Grey, and their more standard flavors, like chocolate chip, I was not impressed with whatever I was served. Fast forward and my wife was at an appointment across the street from their current location. She had been interested in trying some of their goods since she was hearing positive comments about the bakery. She brought home five items totaling $14.75 before tax and tip. The two large cookies, a custom pumpkin flavor with a smile shaped piping of buttercream topped with a crumble, and an Earl Grey with a sugar glaze drizzle, were both very enjoyable. They were soft and chewy. Being "large" cookies, we easily shared each one and felt we had been satiated. A Cinnamon Twist was possibly our least favorite of all the items. While I really liked the concept of a cinnamon filling in a filo pastry dough, we thought it was dry and too light on cinnamon flavor. The Raspberry Square, again, was enough for two people to share, but seemed to be short on the amount of raspberry flavor. While it appeared that there was plenty of raspberry filling, the amount of buttery shortbread crust/base and streusel topping overpowered an otherwise enjoyable filling. The Earl Grey Brownie had a really nice chewiness like any good brownie should. The flavor of the tea leaves is very light, just like in the cookies, and there is a true richness to the brownie. Texture alone is enough to have me buy this again. read more

Space is cute. It's easy to find and parking in the lot was a breeze. However, when we arrived on Sunday, Mother's Day weekend, around 11 am, we were told there was nothing available to eat except for two cupcakes! Seriously? Really? We specifically came here in an effort to avoid all the wait drama associated with Mother's Day brunch and they completely sold out of everything except two cupcakes. Flabbergasted, we just left. I was soo looking forward to doing business with this bakery AND this was my experience... first they don't answer their phone. Or take orders online. When I did finally speak to someone they could not take my order Bc they were short staffed. Ok I can understand this. He told me to call back later - knowing they close early- I said I would stop in to place an order that I needed for tomorrow. I get there and the owner, so obnoxious, tells me oh no - orders are placed weeks in advance. She then proceeded to boast about her demand. While I'm thinking this information would have been useful to know when I called earlier or even if they had it posted on their website. The sad part was the owner didn't even offer alternatives knowing we had never been there before. We left empty handed. As for the place, we felt it stale and stuffy lacking culture and community. As for the baked goods, we wouldn't know Bc the owner was too busy boasting about how long the waiting list is- emphasizing quality over quantity. I had never heard of Baked for You until yesterday, but better late than never, right? I went to the shop with two friends. We all got sandwiches and some goodies. I had the turkey, cheddar and apple sandwich on a croissant. WOW was it good! The croissant was amazing, flakey and flavorful. The other ingredients were also fantastic, the apple was fresh and crispy, the turkey was flavorful and there was a lot on it. Overall, I was very satisfied with the sandwich minus one thing - the menu doesn't specify that it comes with mayo. And it came with way more mayo than I would have preferred. I would definitely get this sandwich again but ask for it without the mayo. It's not needed, in my opinion. I also got the "girl's best friend" cookie and what a delight that was. I had intended on offering some to my friends but suddenly I had eaten it all. Oops. It was the perfect combination of sweet and salty. Some of the cookies in the case looked a bit overcooked (I realize this is a personal preference) and I asked for the one that looked the least overcooked. I would have preferred for it to have been cooked less by a few minutes but it was still really great. All of the other baked goods looked amazing, too, and most of them were gone by the time we left! So they must be really good. The atmosphere of the bakery is really nice, but one thing I kind od hated is how there weren't any small tables. Only large ones. Meaning our group of three women was sitting next at the same table as another group of about five women. The acoustics there aren't great, so it was VERY difficult to hear, especially when it was busy. Only four stars for the unexpected mayo and for the seating arrangements. I would definitely recommend and I'll definitely be back (though probably not around lunch time when it's busy and I'll have to sit with people I don't know). Space is cute. Outdoor sitting is ok. They have a limited breakfast (only three items, a hashbrown patty, and a few bakery options). Two items are served on toast, Avocado Toast and Ricotta Toast. I showed up with four other people at 10:30 am, and they were out of avocados. Bummer. I asked for eggs on toast (since toast was on the menu too!), and they had no more toast either ....... "Nah, I got 90 minutes to close," said the owner. Really?! Still trying to figure out how they expect to run a business when unwilling to replenish two items that make up their menu (or are quite meaningful). And.. one of the sandwiches came to the table with bacon, and my friend didn't want bacon. I guess that does happen sometimes, I get that. I really, really wanted to love it. They are helpful but did not see any smile,that s okay . We got avocado toast(it comes only avocado and toast-some cheese would be nice-my bad) and scone(super delicious). This is by far the strangest bakery I've encountered. You walk in to a vast space with plentiful seating and a relatively small counter space with baked goods. You look for cupcakes as advertised by the pictures on their website and see none. You inquire about cupcakes. You are informed that they are usually available on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It happens to be a Friday. You are told "I know, but today they're not available. You should call ahead." As a compromise you ask for a slice of lemon pound cake. You are told "We only sell them by the loaf." Ok. Cool. Bye. Saturday comes and you have your other call ahead. Then you get "Well we might have cupcakes today, but later." Ok, so are you an actual bakery or not? Another Saturday comes. "They'll be available in a few hours." Ok, what flavor? "Don't know." A few hours later. "Are they ready?" "She hasn't made the frosting yet." These people are not serious. If you're looking for an actual bakery, look elsewhere. This one is a misnomer. read more

I cannot believe I did not know of this cute, local bakery before. In the Delso neighborhood, this bakery offers a rotation of fresh baked goods including a variety of cookies, scones, cupcakes, and some more. Drink selections listed were coffee and tea. Best of all they advertise using 'organic flour, sugar, free range eggs and Vermont butter.' To promote freshness in their baked goods I was told that the items are made daily and when they are sold out of those items, that's it for the day! Better get to the shop early to get your hands on what's in the case and that way you will have more options. It's always fun to not know what's in the case for the day....if you like surprises. If not, call in or check their Facebook page to find out specifically. The seating area is small and cozy with wooden tables and lit candles. If that's not your thing you can grab it and go. I was also informed of a special deal....buy two get one free on Tuesdays only! That is awesome! While I don't goto the Delso neighborhood frequently, this will be my must-goto spot when I'm nearby. My favorites so far are the White Chip Craisin cookie, Earl Grey cookie, and Spinach Feta scone (mmmh so savory!). Bake for You has changed a lot since June 2019 and I imagine this is in great part due to Covid and meeting the demand for customers. We came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning in September and were happy to find a table outdoors. The menu is quite limited for actual food options but everything tasted good. My birthday cake was also purchased here and was good but not abundantly flavorful or decadent. The coffee is very hot but I always feel like a bother asking for milk/creamers/sweeteners and they ask how many you want - I like to see the color in my coffee and decide. Bake for you is amazing fantastic and a wonderful experience. They have some of the best cookies in the region my favorite is the girls best friend it has potato chips chocolate chips and pretzels. They hand make their sandwiches and are fresh when you get them. The staff makes sure to go above and beyond they go out of their way to make sure that you have the most fantastic experience. They are just so kind and friendly. It's also nice because they have a ton of seating arrangements so you can get your work done, studying, or just going there with your friends. The whipped ricotta toast is an amazing flavor bomb on the lightest, freshest sourdough bread I have ever tasted! Service was quick and friendly. The avocado toast is also delicious. I was in need of a dessert for my small wedding rehearsal dinner. Our venue charged a cake cutting fee, so I wanted to find a single-serve option like cupcakes or brownies. Our dinner was in Saratoga, and I called around to well-rated bakeries up there. A highly recommended bakery charged $3 for a small cupcake (vanilla/choc only). That seemed too expensive to me, as we needed two dozen. As an amateur baker, I knew I didn't need to spend that much for a good product. I reached out to Bake For You. I hadn't had their cupcakes or cake, but have had scones and cookies before. They charged $2 for chocolate or vanilla cupcakes. That price was a little easier to swallow. Additionally, they asked me the occasion, and when I told them it was my rehearsal dinner, they asked me for my wedding colors so that they could incorporate them with sprinkles. The cupcakes were well packaged and all survived the drive to Saratoga. The cupcakes were of a good size, none of that one inch cakes with three inches of frosting nonsense! The chocolate was especially rich, and I'm a vanilla fan. The vanilla was also great, though I would have preferred a stronger vanilla taste in the frosting, it tasted like an unflavored buttercream (confectioners sugar and butter). Bake for You used attractive gold sprinkles, and they were frosted neatly. I'd absolutely return to Bake for You for future dessert needs. read more

My sister commented multiple times about how the cookies were the best she had ever had. My mom raved about the frosting. My husband said the cake hit the spot. Truly we were all thrilled. This place does exactly what they say they do. They bake for you. Their cakes don't look like airplane and rocket ships. They look like cakes. And they taste amazing. Everything I have had from this bakery is the best dessert I've ever had! First and foremost, the coffee cake is SO good. A huge layer of streusel topping, dense and buttery. So perfect. They don't have it everyday unfortunately but they should put this on their regular menu. The cinnamon roll is also delicious! I heated mine in the microwave for a couple seconds when I got home, so incredibly good. Most recently I ordered a cake and cupcakes here for our gender reveal. I will probably never order anywhere else. We got a yellow cake with buttercream frosting and yellow cupcakes with chocolate buttercream frosting. Both were so delicious. Linda makes the best cookies. No, I don't think you heard me: THEE. BEST. I've enjoyed everything of hers I've ever tasted. I'm not local, so every time I get home to the area, I like to drop in on her and pick up a little something. I am dying to try her MRE cookies- peanut butter cookies with peanuts and M&Ms (a portion of the proceeds goes to the Wounded Warrior Project). All of her cookies are gigantic and delicious. She makes cupcakes, macaroons, cookie bars, puff pastry and scones as well. My mom has ordered from BFY for family events and there have always been rave reviews. Swing by the Delmar Farmer's Market on Saturdays to find BFY's booth or visit her website or FB page. On FB, she does a giveaway every Wednesday! Honestly, this woman is always baking up something new and interesting!! Lately, I've been addicted to her scones- two visits ago, she had Mashed Potato Scones and last time, she had Reuben Scones: swiss cheese, russian dressing and chunks of corned beef!! SO. GOOD. This is my go to cake place. The cakes are delicious-perfectly rich frosting without being over-bearing with a soft, moist cake. The 8 inch cake is $22, which is extremely reasonable. My roommate and I order the Guinness Chocolate cake routinely for birthdays. It's come to be our go to birthday cake place, and we've tried several cake bakeries in the area. I've been tempted to order their cake on random days (not special occasions) just because they're that good. I've also had their cookies--their Earl Grey cookies are delicious. The tea flavor pokes through without being overbearing, and the icing on top is the perfect compliment to the cookie. It's such a unique flavor and it's a must try cookie. Marshmallow, chocolate chips and cornflakes- yes please! My favorite so far have been their oatmeal based cookies. I got an oatmeal white chocolate cookie, and can't wait to catch it again. I was in town for my dad's 90th b-day and wanted to get a really special cake. I haven't lived in the area for a long time so I didn't know any bakeries. I did a bunch of searching and kept coming back to Bake For You because of all the great reviews. All I can say is I'm so happy I did. I ordered a white champagne cake with raspberry filling and chocolate buttercream cream frosting. Wow, it was delicious. The cake was super moist and the buttercream perfect. A lot of time buttercream can be too sweet but Linda's was amazing. We had 12 people and everyone said how delicious the cake was. I ordered the 8" and it worked perfect for 12 people. The slices were a good size, not huge, but keep in mind this is a rich cake. The other thing I really liked when looking for a bakery is that Bake For You uses all natural ingredients. I was excited to see that they were relocating to Slingerlands and today I finally found time to go in for lunch. I love the ambiance - clean and open yet inviting and comfortable. My mom got the cajun curry on a croissant and I got the eggplant and mozzarella on wheat and we both loved our sandwiches. BFY. Is. Awesome. I have had many cakes from around the capital district. I heard rave reviews about her cakes and pastries and finally got to try. Ordered a carrot cake for a friends birthday. Linda was so accessible and willing to make the cake exactly how he wanted it. When I picked it up she brought it out herself and took the time to get to know me and say hello! I loved that. A friendly business owner with a great product- A WIN FOR THE COMMUNITY! The cake was so fresh and moist it was as if it just came out of the oven. Her website does say she bakes in small batches and this clearly shows. She obviously cares about what she makes you can literally TASTE IT! Can't make it into the shop.. well you can sample her products at various locations across the metroland. From WHOLE FOODS, to Daily Grind (Albany and Troy), Spectrum. So happy with this bakery! I'm glad that I found it. After reading reviews on Yelp, I thought that I'd give it a try since my moms birthday was coming up and I wanted to get her a cake. I ordered the smallest size, 6 inch, over the phone. The lady was very kind and told me the different types of cakes she could make. When I went to pick it up a few days later, I was surprised by how cute the little bakery was. It seems to be owned by a family, all very nice and helpful. The cake was wrapped up in a box, but the baker made sure to show me it first to make sure I was happy with it. The prices are cheap, but the cake itself was AMAZING! Stopped in to grab a sweet treat to top off our meal next door at the cheese traveler. Got the earl gray cookie and the Ramsey cookie (chocolate chip, marshmallow and cornflake). Both were delicious. I was partial to the earl gray which I would describe as a soft sugar cookie with a hint of black pepper flavor. My husband preferred the Ramsey. To each his own. Ehhhh. . . it's average at best. I visited the actual bakery once. I got there late in the day (Sisters Birthday . . fogot to get cake!! and man did I pay for that mistake later!!). . . I have tried these cookies at Whole Foods in Colonie Center. Maybe it's me. Maybe I just don't get the concept ??? I threw out both of my cookies after a few bites, in the car. It was stale. I found them super dry. Stale (not just dry but STALE - I understand the difference between a dry, hard cookie and a stale cookie) and mediocre tasting at best. The one I had from WF was Girls Best Friend or something?? And another kind that I don't recall the name of. The edges of the cookie were totally stale.
