Had one of the worst Customer Service experiences from a Store Manager and Assistant Manager!!! My sister and I had gone in a few months ago for the first time and wanted to give it another try yesterday. When we got off work around 7pm we stopped by to pick up 2 Baja Mexicana burritos. Nothing fancy at all. When we got home, we realized that the orders were made wrong for both of ours. She had the wrong beans and mine included onions and cilantro, which we asked to leave out. When I called, a girl answered acted as though she couldn't understand what I was saying. I asked to speak with a Manager or Supervisor and she told me no one was there and I would have to call back tomorrow. Her demeanor on the phone was a bit sketchy and to be honest, I just felt like she didn't want to let me talk to anyone. My sister called in today and asked to speak with a manager. At this point, she wasn't looking for a refund, she just wanted to talk with a manager about what occurred yesterday. When she called, she spoke with the Store Manager Raul, who's first response to her was that she had previously gone in last week complaining of the same thing. Funny right?? Seeing as though this was only our second time everrrrr eating Baja. She corrected him and after calling her the wrong name 5 times, finally got that she wasn't the same person. He asked what the order was and offered to remake the burritos if we liked. Since we work near by, sure why not. She gave him the correct order and Raul said we could come in and get it. When we got inside, the Assistant Manager, Edgar V., was the one to "help" us. Once we told him who we were and what we had come in for, his entire demeanor changed. Not that he was very cheery to begin with, but once he knew what we were in there for, he immediately gave us dirty looks and said hold on. He went to Raul, who looked up and continuously while getting our food gave us dirty looks along with Edgar. They took our food and slammed them on the table when getting a bag, threw them in the bag like they were throwing out trash and both kept giving us hostility even though it was THEIR idea to re-make the burritos for us! When Edgar went to give us our food, he accused us of never being there and lying about it. He kept asking for a receipt, which we had let the manager know that we didn't have it since we paid in cash and again, we had not been looking for a refund! We didn't even expect them to offer to re-make the food! Upon opening our burritos, one was again, made exactly the way it was when we got them the night before, WRONG! I don't mind the mistake of making, putting or forgetting something on an order, as long as you are willing to acknowledge it and correct it. BUT these two did not even apologize ONCE!!! not for the night before and certainly not for their behavior displayed in the store. It was one of the most uncomfortable and hostile experiences I've had in a food chain. I'm never one to complain, but I just find the lack of customer service displayed by the two people in the entire store that should have the skill set to provide great customer service just appalling! read more

I love their food, but somehow always have a bad experience at this location. This is the second time I have placed an order phone/online, got to the restaurant, and they hadn't even started making it. Both times I heard the lady go back and tell them that they had orders they were supposed to have made. I mean what's the point of ordering ahead if you still have to wait? And there were no other customers in the store.. not busy at all. Anyway, after getting home and finally getting to eat they made me the wrong burrito. I love coming here! I consistently experience great customer service, but today was just superb! I was greeted by the friendliest supervisor; her name is Miriam according to the name printed on my receipt. She really took good care of me, asked me how my day was going, and overall made me feel very welcome. I always get great food and good service at this Baja Fresh. I love that they use quality (never frozen) ingredients. Takes a little longer to get your food but it's because there are NO heat lamps- food is made to order and I like that. Love their Baja Burrito, Tostada or tacos. Yummy! read more

I eat here once a month or so and have never had any issues or surprises. What you see is what you get. Orders are always accurate, food always tastes good, and the staff is what you would expect the staff to be. Plenty of parking and outside seating is available if the weather is nice. Any other day would of been 4 stars... Forgot to use my coupon and went back up to counter to use- they said NO! I didn't even have my food yet and they said once an order is rang up they can not change it. How about voiding the transaction and starting over... how about a coupon for the next visit... how about an apology of some kind! It may seem silly to some, but this incident has changed my entire viewpoint of this restaurant! I DO like this place - they have a pretty rockin grilled chicken burrito, the fajitas are better then many Mexican restaurants that specialize in fajitas (go figure?). It just lacks something sometimes - maybe an extra 'kick' or edge. It also suffers from the over-Californization of Mexican food as some meal items can be jacked to the gills with guacamole and sour cream. I'm sure that many out there prefer this but I'm more of the mindset that I want to enjoy the essence of the food. Get this - you get a burrito that is fresh made, piping hot, and then you put some cold condiments on it which also in turn, overwhelm the flavor. Zuh? I do dig and respect their business philosophies though - everything is fresh, no microwaves, no MSG, and so forth. Some of our restaurants could benefit from that line of thinking, no? read more

What happened Baja? Went today for lunch and had a chicken quesadilla and all that was in it was chicken and cheese. There was tomatoes, sour cream, and guacamole on the side. But not enough for the 4 pieces of quesadilla I got. Also the chips were really stale. I only ate one. Really bummed.. Maybe next time I won't have the quesadilla. read more

Just ordered dinner to be delivered by Eat24 which I found on Yelp, and WOW!!!!! They were fast and very efficient!!!! The food was great and it's nice to know that on nights when I am being lazy and don't want to cook or go get something, I can have food delivered that's not pizza or Chinese. read more

Went to Baja Fresh, on Oakdale Road, in Modesto, to find no staff to help those waiting in line. When someone finally came out of the back room, they were friendly and apologetic, yet this isn't the kind of service that one should expect from a fast food establishment. I love Baja Fresh! I come here often and the food is always good. A little pricey but its worth it.

I eat here several times a week and they never fail to be friendly, and all the staff are hard workers. The place is usually pretty clean as well, so I don't know where some of the negative reviewers on this site went, but it doesn't sound like it was the Baja Fresh on Oakdale Rd. The food isn't the cheapest but it's far better than typical fast food so it's well worth it and somewhat healthier. I prefer the fish, steak or carnitas to the chicken as I prefer simmered and seasoned chicken to grilled, and usually order the Baja Burrito (which is the one that has no rice) or the tacos (I like both the Baja style and the Americano style) and once in awhile, one of the salads. The beans are a bit bland and not refried, so adding salsa or hot sauce from the salsa bar is a must. I've also had the veggie burrito which was surprisingly good, and my vegetarian friends like it well enough that we can go there and everyone leaves satisfied. This town has lots of Mexican restaurants, but many of them are what is referred to as "authentic", which frankly, doesn't impress me at all. I grew up in the LA area and "authentic" is vastly overrated in my book. I prefer slightly upscale Mexican which is more where Baja Fresh is at. Similar to La Salsa and Rubio's chains, the place is a keeper, and fortunately for me, very close to home. read more

this place was horrible! i went in and placed a order for two burritos and they completely messed it up.everything i didn't want in there they placed it in the burritos!! once getting home and calling to speak with a manger the lady said nobody was available to speak with or to help me. later the day i called to speak with manager and spoke with a man named raul (manager) who right away said i was lying and had been in there last week complaining ( when he didn't know my name at the time). after correcting him & providing my name he then apologized and said he would replace my order. during my lunch hour i went into baja to get my order and the assistant manager edgar than accused me of never being here! his words were " i worked that shift and i don't remember seeing you!" mind you as he is telling me this he is giving me dirty looks and throwing our food in the bag as if it was trash. horrible customer service!! read more
