I went there today. The food was fine as usual. The issue came up when I went to the restroom. The door had a hook that you could use to open the door instead of the handle. I decided to use it. The edge was very sharp and tore my arm, see photo below. I did tell a person who said he was the manager, no name plate so I'm not sure. If you go there, please comment about whether they have fixed it.

The receipt as we received it! 2 burrito ultimos! No Mexicano, no enchilado style

Ordered online! Told 18 minutes, showed in 20! Only one person at counter, 4 others cooking and verifying orders! Burrito ultimate and burrito Mexicano enchilado style. My order was ready on time but I had to wait until the order taker was free to give me my incorrect order! Of course I didn't realize until I got home so it's a little hard to chastise at this point other than yelp! So 2 ultimos, no Mexicano, no enchilado style, way overcooked chips (resorted to tostitos, way better tonight). Total waste. I will give them credit though! They got 5 of the 6 salsa sides correct! Will use Sherwood or chipotle next time

When I was a kid growing up in Michigan during the 2000s and early 2010s, I loved dining at the Baja Fresh in Troy. But, the place closed by 2015. I was ecstatic when I found this place south of Portland off of I-5. The food at this location was delicious, and I had it 6 times during my stay in the Portland area from May 29th to June 2nd, 2023. I ordered diablo burritos (shrimp, wahoo, chicken, and roasted veggies) with sliced avocado added into it. Wahoo is a type of white fish. The roasted veggies was green & red bell peppers and onions. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and chicken taquito, which were also quite flavorful. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup twice here. It's my favorite tortilla soup out of any place I've dined at. It's a savory brown broth with chicken, onions, chips, & avocado. The guacamole is the best out of any fast food Mexican restaurant. The salsas offered at the bar are excellent. Lastly, I love the fact the tortilla chips and freshly made. The service was quick and professional. The ambiance is spacious, clean, and modern. This restaurant is better than Chipotle, Qdoba, and even El Pollo Loco. I strongly recommend trying the Baja Fresh in Lake Oswego. It would be quite a pleasant surprise for fast food Mexican.

    Really good food.

I was originally going to go to taco bell (what a mistake that would have been). I saw this as I was driving by and thought I should give it a try. The beef tacos came out wonderfully like little steak bites in corn shells. Just the right amount of spice and veggies. I will definitely stop back when I'm in the Tigard area as this was just to tasty to pass up again. They do have indoor dining too I just didn't stop inside. Their breakfast burritos are tasty, simple, and while sometimes inconsistent, are still a nice warm meal first thing on a Saturday. However, in the last few months, every time I enter, there's a Sonos speaker that is playing music ON BLAST. It's been in a few different locations; over the condiment bar, or behind the register near the kitchen, and at such a volume that I could barely hear the employee at the register, and I had to raise my voice to be heard by them. Additionally, the employee that normally works the register does the bare minimum you would expect for someone taking your order at a register. This is both a good thing and a bad thing. I get my order out in in a timely manner, but I get the sense that, while this is a family-run restaurant, they're not necessarily including their patrons as part of that family. I think their main challenge is their drive thru. They seem to have one person working the register, drive thru, and handling incoming phone orders the majority of the times I've come in. I'll never skip out on this place, but I avoid dining in anymore. You don't come for the vibes or service, really just a quick and tasty meal.

That said, time and time again, the company removes really great things from the menu, and doesn't replace them with something equitable and it's a bit of a bummer. First for me, the chicken sandwich with the peppers and the aardvark sauce - it was there for the first several years we lived in Oregon, I got it without a bun and it was amazing! It wasn't a seasonal item, just an awesome one! Now, just a plain chicken sandwich that was in the menu before. Then, the cowboy and chicken sliders - we went into get lunch - the cowboy sliders are my husbands absolute favorite and I love the chicken ones. Gone! And no more sweet potato fries. We couldn't land on anything we wanted to order so we left. Let me say I LOVE the local flair and the seasonal items - but it has been such a bummer to see great items come off the menu. After waiting more than 30 minutes, we still hadn't received any food or drinks, while customers who ordered after us were already being served. We checked on our order twice because our children were hungry and there seemed to be no progress. We were told there were computer system issues, which we understood, so we continued to wait. Eventually, after more than half an hour with nothing received, we requested a refund. While the restaurant refunded the food charges, they did not refund the tip. That was unacceptable. Not only was our time wasted, but we were essentially charged for service we never received. What made the situation worse was the lack of customer service. The manager's response felt dismissive, and there was no genuine apology or effort to make things right. A brief "sorry about that" at the end came across as an afterthought rather than sincere concern. It's now nearly a week later, and I still have not received a refund for the tip. Person in charge said they cannot refund my tip from the store but it must be corporate. Wrote a little note on my receipt, put it in the drawer and said they will submit a request. I left feeling completely ripped off and unvalued as a customer. The impression I got was that because this location is in Bridgeport and likely has plenty of business, losing a customer simply didn't matter. Mistakes happen, especially during busy periods. What matters is how they're handled. Unfortunately, this experience was handled poorly.

When we walked in for a Sunday dinner, we were greeted with the smell of roasting chicken and charcoal, a promising sign from the very start. It was pretty busy inside, but after ordering at the counter, the food only took about 15 minutes to arrive. Whole Chicken Meal ($27.74) - The meal comes with two 12 oz sides, an 8oz salsa, and either corn or flour tortillas. For the sides we went with the classic Mexican Rice and the Refried Beans. Both are pretty standard stuff from a Mexican restaurant. The rice is tender with still distinct grains, has an reddish color from tomatoes, and adds a scant amount of veggies mixed through. The beans are mostly smooth throughout, fatty and creamy. We went with the corn tortillas, of which they provide a whole stack of twelve, warmed until steaming, making them hot, soft, and pliable, perfect to eat with the chicken and sides. The chicken is legitimately amazing. Basically the entire restaurant smells like chicken fat being charred over mesquite. It's a mesmerizing smell that made me salivate upon walking in. The chicken is whole roasted with the dark meat and wings being cooked until succulent and juicy. The interior of the breasts are a bit dry, but there's not much that can be done with this cooking method! Otherwise, the char is excellent, creating an almost crust-like nature to the skin and the spice mix imbues a yellow glow to the entire tray. They give so much food that we only finished perhaps a quarter of it. We ended up bringing the rest home on our drive up the next day and ate it for another couple of meals. (5/5) I especially love their salsa bar off to the side of the main counter. There's so much variety, there's surely something to please anyone. They have a mild tomato, a mild but smoky, a spicy and fruity, a green tangy tomatillo, a creamy avocado, a crunchy fresh pico de gallo, a smoky and spicy, and a tangy and spicy salsa - basically all combinations someone could ask for. Even the spiciest additions are still very tolerable to my tastes. We were impressed enough to visit again the next day for lunch: Supreme Burrito al Pastor ($14.37) - This is hefty burrito, almost Mission-sized, being around 4 inch in diameter with the weight to match. It's first filled with plenty of Mexican rice, same as with the meal. For some reason, this time, the rice is hard and tough, like they had reached down to scrape the bottom of the rice cooker. It would likely be the most coveted portion of rice in a tagine or clay pot, but in a burrito, the toughness doesn't work well. On top of the rice are the refried beans, spooned over intermittently. It adds creaminess and fat to the otherwise dry exterior layers. Then the layer of meat begins - cubed pork, marinated in a savory and sweet sauce, then mixed up with chopped pineapples. It's more adobada than al pastor, and is on the sweeter end of things with the pineapple. The spice mixture isn't the most notable; they definitely focus on the chicken at El Jefe vs. the pork. Veggies, including lettuce and a pico de gallo mix cover the meat, followed by thinly shredded cheese and sour cream, which is thick and rich, perhaps more resembling crema than cream, and some guacamole, tangy and fatty. It's not the most even application - for example, the guac only covers one end of the burrito while the sour cream covers the other end. (4/5) I have to say, the chicken served at EL Jefe Grill is perfection. I would revisit just for that. Bathrooms - Two unisex rooms Note: El Jefe charges a 2.9% credit card fee. This is displayed at the register, but they have their POS set up incorrectly. Firstly, they lump the cost into the menu item instead of separating it out into a fee. Secondly, they actually charge a random fee rather than 2.9%. For example, the whole chicken meal is 3.1% and the supreme burrito is 2.7%. Very bizarre. I reported it to their management so hopefully it gets fixed soon.

They gave us one of those pagers that buzzes when it's ready. The ambiance was cool. It reminded me of a taco shop in LA. It had two separate seating areas. One was large, with flat screens, and the other was smaller near the register; both were comfortable and had ample seating. This place is literally seven minutes from my house. I will most certainly be back.
