Rushing to get our show to black friars theaters! We get there at 1:15 and met with a interesting waiter! We ordered two beef tacos and made it delux ! The waiter was a young man . He wrote everything order in a notebook! He also could not understand how to give me an extra taco! He was extremely nice ! The ambiance was low key! The food was good! The bill for four tacos and fixings plus a beer was over $35 ! If this country wants to elect someone with no political experience who is racially insensitive and golfs... Great atmosphere. Downtown Staunton vibes are incredible. Buddha Bowl is literally one of the tastiest things I've eaten! Staff was young and super friendly.

Korean BBQ on the specials menu. Love this place.

I love Baja Bean in Staunton, Va. this Staunton go-to restaurant is ran by a friendly bunch of folks -- love them. My favorite thing about this place is that it's NOT the typical Mexican (for Americans) place you're thinking of. Sure they have tacos, fajitas, burritos, etc. They just do cool, creative things with the standards on their menu. Their specials are always fun. I swung by on a random Thursday for a late lunch at 3pm. Of course, they had an awesome Korean BBQ dish on the specials list. I recall having a special years ago here that involved a raspberry coulis....... I think it helped cut the heat in a dish for the faint of heart? Heaven.

A sad chili relleno, lost it's cornmeal dredge and the flesh of the poblano or Anaheim turned black in the fryolator.

My how things can change. Stopped in here about 3 years back and had a decent lunch. Ordered "lotsa guacamole" and underneath a fresh looking top was a gray/black unappealing mass. Two fish tacos contained a frozen battered piece of fish chopped up into little bits covered with lettuce in a very raw flour tortilla. The chili relleno was dredged in corn meal, which didn't survive the deep fryer, and sat atop the plate, blackened. Salsa was made with unripened, nearly green tomatoes, and flavorless. Yes, I should have said something; instead, I paid too much and left a barely eaten lunch in disgust.

Grande nachos-of course half eaten. LOL

My partner and I came for dinner last night (a Tuesday). We arrived around 5:45 pm and were…read morepromptly seated. The restaurant was not very busy, but there was a pleasant vibe. The inside reminds me of a Chili's or Ruby Tuesday, but a bit darker. I think it's a nice atmosphere, appropriate for date night, a group, a family, etc. Our server (who has worked here for 3 years) was friendly and efficient. To start, we ordered a bowl of yesterday's soup special (She crab) and a small order of boiled shrimp. The soup was excellent, creamy, and with small pieces of crab throughout. The shrimp (six in the small order) were prepared well and came with a tangy cocktail sauce. The server brought over a loaf of their complimentary bread, which is actually three breads together in a single loaf. The bread was good (I preferred the dark loaf part) and came with a peach butter. We were told that the butters change periodically. The butter had pieces of peach in it (!) and we enjoyed the novelty. Our server mentioned that they also have a pistachio butter and maple butter. Yum. I ordered a salad with the balsamic vinaigrette dressing on the side. The salad itself was good - fresh, with crisp lettuce, tomato, cucumber, apple, almond pieces, etc. Then there was the dressing. Although I mixed the salad dressing in the cup before tasting it, when I did taste it, it was almost all oil with no discernible vinegar or other flavor. I kept stirring and tasting and nothing. So I abandoned the dressing. For entrees, my partner ordered the charbroiled salmon in herb butter with a side of broccoli. The salmon was prepared well and very tasty. I ordered the mahi-mahi, with the sun-dried tomato butter sauce on the side. The mahi-mahi was well prepared and tasty on its own. Honestly, I tasted the sun-dried tomato butter sauce and it was essentially whipped butter. I didn't think it added anything to the entree so I didn't use it. The potato came with butter and sour cream on the side. The potato was very good. Although we were full and not planning on dessert, the server came over with small cups of peppermint ice cream, calling it a "palate cleanser." It was very good and a nice touch. Other than the salad dressing and the sauce for the fish, it was an excellent meal in a nice atmosphere with good service. When we were leaving at around 7:00 pm, the line was out the door.

Grt them if you like ribs. My only regret and it was my own taste buds the bbq sauce needed some heat. My wife had chicken with artichoke hearts and sauce. She said it was tasty and the sauce sublime. Overall, a must dine at historic restaurant in Staunton.

Upon entering, I was hit with the smell of pizza. It was tempting to stray from my mission, but I forged on! The counter to order is right up front with the casual seating area to the right. We were quickly greeted by the friendly and helpful staff. We ordered the Philly with fries and a Chicken Marsala. CM is one of our favorite pasta dishes so we will often try it if it's on the menu. The beverages are self serve so we paid, got our drinks and selected the corner booth. Just after we ordered, the place exploded with a steady stream of customers. Our salad and bread arrived right away. The housemade Caesar dressing was excellent. The bread has warm and soft. When our entrees arrived we dug in. The Marsala was absolutely lovely. The sauce was creamy and flavorful with the mushrooms and marsala wine both coming through perfectly. The flavor of the Philly was also good. I would have liked a little more meat on there, but overall a solid sandwich. The creamy cheese (not chez-whiz) was mixed in with the beef and topped with lettuce, tomato, and onion with mayo on the bun. We will definitely be back for the marsala and maybe some of the other pasta dishes as well.

But a customer inside kindly came out and said they were leaving, offering us their inside table. (There's also the beer garden outside in the back for seating, which looks like it would be nice and comfortable.) I got an everything bagel with hummus and tomato. My partner got everything bagel, scallion cream cheese, tomato ($0.85 for tomato) and lox ($6 for the lox). Although everything tasted good, we both noticed that the bagels were really, really dense, tough and chewy. Like uncomfortably tough and chewy. My partner left one half of their bagel uneaten and I didn't finish mine. It looked great and the hummus and cream cheese and other toppings were fine, but the bagel was really, really tough. I'd like to believe that it isn't because the bagels were stale, but the thought crossed my mind. The coffee I had (dark brew) was outstanding, served in a nice, large mug. Excellent! Service was efficient. I considered a four-star review because the coffee was outstanding, but the bagels were really disappointing. It's too bad. It looks like a cool place, but their main food item appears to be bagels. Maybe it was a one-off, but I spent over $26 for two bagels and one coffee, and I don't plan to come back to find out.
