They have two vegetarian tacos, and I rather liked the more "real food" sweet potato and black bean than their tofu taco, but both were delicious. Upon seeing they had a seasonal special salsa; I was glad I took the option to order it as it was delectable and I liked it enough to haul what I didn't use back with me to save for another day. Their rice and beans have a vegetarian option, and given the option for various indulgences, I went for a semisweet chocolate cake, the sprinkles on which were unnecessary but fun. This was an unexpected find in Staunton. More than anything, the non-meat tacos were very impressive as the yam/sunflower seed combo was something that was hearty yet balanced with textures. Props to their selection of salsa as well. I thought it presented a nice mixture of mild to medium to hot to extra hot. I'd definitely be back to try other items from their menu. The service was quick and efficient! My chicken tacos were excellent and I love the lunch special prices. They have a great patio and fast service. I liked the radish on top of the taco and I liked the choice of salsa. My only complaint is the lime in the green sauce and guacamole. Lime should always, always, be served on the side. It's not appropriate in the food. It's always an add on in Mexican cooking. It's much too overpowering and ruins the flavor of the food. The food should stand on its own. There's indoor seating on the side maybe 5-6 tables but not very big. It looks like people usually got their food to go. I got the chicken bowl, my friend did 2 tacos, and my stepdaughter did the kids meal with cheese quesadillas, a drink, but we substituted a side of rice for the ice cream. The kids meal came with 4 quesadillas which were big! Great portions for just $8-9 for the whole meal. We stopped in for dinner Saturday night while we were in town for a trip. What delicious food! Small place that offered big quality. This place is a true local gem and we are so glad we stopped for lunch. I got the affordable yet large lunch taco plate with carnitas and the seasonal taco filling. My husband got the lunch burrito with beef, but he was enjoying it so much and so quickly I couldn't grab a picture. Had one bite of his, and I understood why. Generous portion and so delicious. Great taco shop in the middle of nowhere. It's a saving grace if you're headed to/from the VA Safari Park. Great customer service and quick even with new COVID carry out guidelines. We ordered a little bit of everything to include tacos, a burrito, super nachos, and a kids chicken quesadilla. Everything was fresh, hot and well seasoned. The nachos were my favorite and enough to feed even the hungriest person. Check your bag and make sure they gave you utensils and lots of napkins because you're going to need them. This was grab and go for us so we ate in the car but they do have a few tables inside if you want to eat there. The shrimp was interesting - more like a shrimp salad - but good nonetheless. Although small in size, they don't hold back on fillings but could provide more sauce, especially since they charge for it. We tried all the sauces and thought the spiciest was best. Outdoor seating is plentiful - which is good because seating inside is limited- it's an enclosed area with benches and umbrellas. One of the top 5 burritos I've ever had. Order at the counter and have a seat, the food will come to you. 5 of us total so we ordered a few things to share and had a delightful meal. They serve a few different beers including some local brews. They also had water, a cup of limes if you wanted to add some to your cup, soda and teas. The kitchen is right there so you can see what's going on, seating inside is limited but they have a dog friendly outdoor area which is where we sat. I got the chicken burrito with their spicy salsa. I am not a fan of sour cream but I forgot to ask them to remove it but the burrito was so flavorful with perfectly grilled chicken, cheese, spices and salsa that the sour cream taste didn't come through which I was thrilled about. Haha. My sister in law ordered the brisket burrito and she was in heaven. My wife had the bowl with shrimp and they were cooked well and not stringy or tough, cooked just enough. We also split the queso and chips. Really great cheese sauce, and nice salty chips, my only suggestion would be for them to have an option where they mix their salsa into the cheese sauce. I was happy to learn that the owners recently opened a pizza restaurant next door. Both places were packed and swarming with customers. I stand absolutely corrected and I've never been so happy to be so wrong. Ok, so, maybe my first review caught these good people on an off night because, holy hell, did they completely blow me away with food AND service today. Placed an order at 19:48. Food was here by 20:00. And it was supremely awesome. I cannot say enough good things about the food at this place, I mean, just wow. Wonderful flavours and very well crafted plates. I just fell in love with Chicano Boy Tacos the first time I tried it in September. Seriously, where have you been all my life! Straight from the website Chicano Boy Taco "focuses on serving handmade tacos, Mission-style burritos, bowls, and fresh salads." They utilize "fresh products and meticulous time honored technique" in the preparation of their food. With all the countless taco places around, this place stands out for me. Perhaps, it's the way they use fresh ingredients. There's this bright, superior freshness that can't be explained. That paired with superbly cooked fillings and meats make for a divine combination. Also, there aren't copious amounts of toppings. The toppings are well balanced for the perfect bite. The only thing we put on is the salsa. For this visit, I ordered 3 tacos: 1) the chicken - marinated in citrus, oregano, garlic and topped with sour cream, cotija cheese, and radish, 2) the sweet potato and black bean - topped with queso fresco, cotija cheese, and a spiced pumpkin seed relish, and 3) my personal favorite, the shrimp - chilled shrimp tossed in chipotle mayo and topped with cotija cheese, cabbage, corn, and green onion. My other favorite (not shown) is the pork taco. Amazing! And don't get me started on the Taters! So good! So, I like the food overall. I'm going to piggy back off of Jenny C's comment...in a little different light. I equally was highly recommended this restaurant and looking forward to trying the food. While I understand there are still restrictions surrounding Covid, it is disappointing that spot like this isn't taking more advantage of the space they have. If sit down service is not the restaurant design the owners response makes sense. However, it does seem like a counter service at least from the patio would be a nice addition for people who are not trying to order online and do "take out" The patio has so much promise as a fun and inviting space with the lights, the umbrellas, the wall mural...
