The service was quick and efficient! My chicken tacos were excellent and I love the lunch special prices. They have a great patio and fast service. I liked the radish on top of the taco and I liked the choice of salsa. My only complaint is the lime in the green sauce and guacamole. Lime should always, always, be served on the side. It's not appropriate in the food. It's always an add on in Mexican cooking. It's much too overpowering and ruins the flavor of the food. The food should stand on its own. I highly recommend a visit to this establishment!! read more

A stop into this taco place yielded a small shop, so takeout to the splendid nearby park was a good decision. They have two vegetarian tacos, and I rather liked the more "real food" sweet potato and black bean than their tofu taco, but both were delicious. Upon seeing they had a seasonal special salsa; I was glad I took the option to order it as it was delectable and I liked it enough to haul what I didn't use back with me to save for another day. Their rice and beans have a vegetarian option, and given the option for various indulgences, I went for a semisweet chocolate cake, the sprinkles on which were unnecessary but fun. The salt level in something (or everything) was excessive, which had me gulping water. And it's a shame, because they could dial it back and this would still be some quality food. read more

This has the most amazing tacos and rice bowls! Never gotten a bad bit of lettuce or rotten tomato. Everything's super fresh. The people are friendly and the flavors are out of this world. I love every one of their sauces so just pick the one that meets your heat level. read more

This was an unexpected find in Staunton. More than anything, the non-meat tacos were very impressive as the yam/sunflower seed combo was something that was hearty yet balanced with textures. Props to their selection of salsa as well. I thought it presented a nice mixture of mild to medium to hot to extra hot. I'd definitely be back to try other items from their menu. One note is that I wish the tacos had a double tortilla so that I'd be able to "catch" the fillings. read more

The four of us shared the freshly made guacamole and various tacos loaded with meat. Can't beat the $5 margaritas. Nice, friendly service.

My friend, step daughter and I came here for lunch just after noon and we got there just before the lunch crowd came. Very casual, chill place. There's indoor seating on the side maybe 5-6 tables but not very big. It looks like people usually got their food to go. I got the chicken bowl, my friend did 2 tacos, and my stepdaughter did the kids meal with cheese quesadillas, a drink, but we substituted a side of rice for the ice cream. The kids meal came with 4 quesadillas which were big! Great portions for just $8-9 for the whole meal. My friend is GF and she actually chose this place because of their menu, reported her tacos were really good as well. My bowl was super good! Everyone there was very friendly and attentive. Would definitely come back! read more

Great food. Fun little spot to grab a bite. Good service. Outside seating and $5 margaritas.

Fast service, cute space, and really great food. Highly recommend a bowl with the sweet potato and black bean filling. Wish I lived closer so I could be a regular at this place. read more

Great place! Fresh food, fun atmosphere and fast friendly service. Portions are generous and the food was delicious! Can't wait to go back!

We stopped in for dinner Saturday night while we were in town for a trip. What delicious food! Small place that offered big quality. We enjoyed a burrito, salad, nachos, and tacos and it was all incredible. The salad dressing was incredible, chicken was flavored perfectly and queso was excellent! The staff was great at checking in on our needs and very helpful and kind. The kids loved the rubber ducks too! If we're ever back in town, we will definitely stop in!! read more

This place is a true local gem and we are so glad we stopped for lunch. I got the affordable yet large lunch taco plate with carnitas and the seasonal taco filling. My husband got the lunch burrito with beef, but he was enjoying it so much and so quickly I couldn't grab a picture. Had one bite of his, and I understood why. Generous portion and so delicious. My tacos were also great and almost overly stuffed. We got all of the salsas and it was fun to try each flavor they offered on chips and our tacos and burrito. They do a wonderful job here. Focused on providing great food from a small shop. Please stop in and give it a try. We were so happy we did! read more

Great taco shop in the middle of nowhere. It's a saving grace if you're headed to/from the VA Safari Park. Great customer service and quick even with new COVID carry out guidelines. We ordered a little bit of everything to include tacos, a burrito, super nachos, and a kids chicken quesadilla. Everything was fresh, hot and well seasoned. The nachos were my favorite and enough to feed even the hungriest person. Check your bag and make sure they gave you utensils and lots of napkins because you're going to need them. This was grab and go for us so we ate in the car but they do have a few tables inside if you want to eat there. Highly recommend if you happen to be driving through or if you happen to visit the nearby safari. read more

Lovely place. Amazing experience. Food was great. Very small seating area but to go service was very efficient. They had a separate front two doors down just for to go orders. read more

Coming from the tri state area where taco joints are a dime a dozen, I wasn't sure what to expect here. To my surprise, the tacos were good. We tried shrimp, chorizo and chicken. The shrimp was interesting - more like a shrimp salad - but good nonetheless. Although small in size, they don't hold back on fillings but could provide more sauce, especially since they charge for it. We tried all the sauces and thought the spiciest was best. Outdoor seating is plentiful - which is good because seating inside is limited- it's an enclosed area with benches and umbrellas. A beautiful mural is the perfect background for those who want to post pics of their tacos. read more

One of the top 5 burritos I've ever had. Order at the counter and have a seat, the food will come to you. 5 of us total so we ordered a few things to share and had a delightful meal. They serve a few different beers including some local brews. They also had water, a cup of limes if you wanted to add some to your cup, soda and teas. The kitchen is right there so you can see what's going on, seating inside is limited but they have a dog friendly outdoor area which is where we sat. I got the chicken burrito with their spicy salsa. I am not a fan of sour cream but I forgot to ask them to remove it but the burrito was so flavorful with perfectly grilled chicken, cheese, spices and salsa that the sour cream taste didn't come through which I was thrilled about. Haha. My sister in law ordered the brisket burrito and she was in heaven. My wife had the bowl with shrimp and they were cooked well and not stringy or tough, cooked just enough. We also split the queso and chips. Really great cheese sauce, and nice salty chips, my only suggestion would be for them to have an option where they mix their salsa into the cheese sauce. I took their spicy red salsa and added it to the last bits of the queso, it was amazing! I didn't take any photos because after the first bite I couldn't put it down. It's a few minutes off the main drag if you're headed south towards Roanoke but it is WELL WORTH THE ADDED TIME! VIVA CHICANO BOY! read more

This was my first time back in Staunton since 2020- the early pandemic days. And Chicano Boy was just as delicious as I remembered. I was happy to learn that the owners recently opened a pizza restaurant next door. Both places were packed and swarming with customers. The menu has been updated since 2020 but the food is the same quality. No tummy issues here! The portions are always satisfying and well worth the cost. I stand absolutely corrected and I've never been so happy to be so wrong. Ok, so, maybe my first review caught these good people on an off night because, holy hell, did they completely blow me away with food AND service today. Placed an order at 19:48. Food was here by 20:00. And it was supremely awesome. I cannot say enough good things about the food at this place, I mean, just wow. Wonderful flavours and very well crafted plates. Proteins are all worthy of their own five star reviews. I've eaten around the menu and I keep coming back to pretty much anything that has the brisket on it. Chicano Boy's brisket is my new religion. Sorry, mom. As far as dine in experience, all I can say is maybe I just needed to check my own vibe a bit and be ok with the wait. I'll still defend my initial reaction to that experience, but I'll also be eternally grateful that I didn't let that ruin what turns out to be a beYOOteeful relationship. (I'd take a picture of my hella awesome brisket bowl with salsa cruda but it didn't survive the first 30 seconds in my apartment, And nobody wants to see a pic of an empty bowl...) read more

The taco lunch box is a great idea and definitely cost-effective. The tacos were okay, but I felt the pork belly was pretty greasy. I probably won't be returning, but I understand their popularity. Nice clean restaurant with good service, just not very much seating. I would recommend the pork belly taco it was delicious.

Visiting the area for a wedding and I found this cute spot via Yelp. I love the mural they have inside! I had the taco lunch deal with chips and queso, along with a kids chicken quesadilla. The quesadilla was a great portion, my two kids could have shared one order. The green tomatillo salsa was really good. I got one carnitas taco and one brisket, both amazing especially with the tomatillo sauce. Very dog friendly outdoor seating if you want to bring your fur friend. read more

Their barbacoa tacos were really tasty. But OMG -- their burrito was amazing!! Seriously recommend the carnitas burrito. I think the secret is in their super thin and stretchy tortillas. I just fell in love with Chicano Boy Tacos the first time I tried it in September. Seriously, where have you been all my life! Straight from the website Chicano Boy Taco "focuses on serving handmade tacos, Mission-style burritos, bowls, and fresh salads." They utilize "fresh products and meticulous time honored technique" in the preparation of their food. With all the countless taco places around, this place stands out for me. Perhaps, it's the way they use fresh ingredients. There's this bright, superior freshness that can't be explained. That paired with superbly cooked fillings and meats make for a divine combination. Also, there aren't copious amounts of toppings. The toppings are well balanced for the perfect bite. The only thing we put on is the salsa. For this visit, I ordered 3 tacos: 1) the chicken - marinated in citrus, oregano, garlic and topped with sour cream, cotija cheese, and radish, 2) the sweet potato and black bean - topped with queso fresco, cotija cheese, and a spiced pumpkin seed relish, and 3) my personal favorite, the shrimp - chilled shrimp tossed in chipotle mayo and topped with cotija cheese, cabbage, corn, and green onion. My other favorite (not shown) is the pork taco. Amazing! And don't get me started on the Taters! So good! I could talk on and on about this spot but definitely checking it out in Staunton or at their new location in Richmond. read more

So, I like the food overall. I'm going to piggy back off of Jenny C's comment...in a little different light. I equally was highly recommended this restaurant and looking forward to trying the food. While I understand there are still restrictions surrounding Covid, it is disappointing that spot like this isn't taking more advantage of the space they have. If sit down service is not the restaurant design the owners response makes sense. However, it does seem like a counter service at least from the patio would be a nice addition for people who are not trying to order online and do "take out" The patio has so much promise as a fun and inviting space with the lights, the umbrellas, the wall mural... It just seems like a little bit of music and person managing some outdoor seating would surely make the spot exceptional. Just a thought. To each their own, would recommend for takeout option but obviously not sit down. read more

Nice little gem in Staunton! I always order the pork belly bowl - it is insanely delicious.

Cook went too heavy on the cotija and it overwhelmed the chicken in the tacos I ordered. Shrimp taco is a cold dish; an odd, mayonnaise-y affair that I'm sure can only be found in rural Virginia. Service was great, but ambiance was one step above a taco stand (at night, the headlights of parking cars make chiaroscuro profiles of dining patrons). read more
