Bait & Switch. Horrible negligent management. Unsafe rental. Poor customer service. Do not use their Groupon or their services.

UPDATE: I changed my review from 2 to 5 stars in light of the friendly response and excellent…read morecustomer service I received in the wake [pardon the pun] of our trip. And I'll add that with a new, non-cell-phone-based return policy in place, we are likely to return. Thank you! First, let me say clearly that the actual kayaking part of this experience was really nice. A little pricey, but that's mainly because we're a big family: my wife and I and six of our kids, ages 8-21, rented four kayaks for the one-hour (two-mile) "Camp Hi to SR 82 Two-Mile Trip." This cost $245.21. But it really was a very nice experience. What wasn't so great was the experience getting back. The way the short trip works is that you paddle downstream for two miles and then get out of the river. You're supposed to call Camp Hi soon before you get there, and they send a bus to pick you up and bring you back. "Do you have Verizon?" they asked me as we were first getting into the water, "You may not be able to get a signal. You may have to walk up the path a bit to call." Well, we do have Verizon. And we could not get a signal from the river. So we got to the disembarking point and pulled the kayaks out. This was at 3:00 on the nose. Then, I walked. And walked some more, all the way up the trail to Route 82, which I had to walk along for another quarter mile in order to get a signal. This was a bit unnerving, as the speed limit is 55 mph and for part of the walk there's only about two feet of space between the lane and the side of a bridge. I finally got a signal and called Camp Hi at 3:10 to request a ride. They said they'd send a driver. I walked back to where my family was waiting. And we waited. Around 3:20, someone pulled into the parking area to unload some kayaks. Around 3:30, I asked if I could use their phone, as we were still waiting for our ride. I called Camp Hi and they said they'd try to get a driver down to us. Finally, at 3.41, the driver arrived to pick us up. We made it back to Camp Hi at 3:48. To her credit, the young woman at the counter was polite and mildly apologetic. "Look," I said, "can I get any sort of a refund or anything? It took more than forty minutes for us to get back. That was a long wait with my eight-year-old." "I could only give a small refund," she replied, "two to three dollars." Seriously, that's what she said. "Two to three dollars." I declined. Politely, I think. So, that was my experience. $245 for one very nice hour on the water and 40+ minutes of waiting for a ride. Given that the people at Camp Hi--and let me say again, clearly, that everyone we interacted with was quite nice--definitely *know* that there's an issue with cell phone service, it's hard to understand why they don't simply send a bus to pick people up right at the one-hour mark. That would be far simpler and would have left us feeling much happier about the whole thing. Will I be back? Probably not.

Kayaks are not maintained. No plugs, they take on water. Staff is not well trained, check in…read moreprocess was slow, staff was rude, waited for the bus ride to the start... then Ernie was rude when we returned stating he and his staff would like to go home on time. Well I would have loved to start my reservation at the correct time and not delay your staff. I was late 20 minutes like you were 20 minutes on my reservation. If your delay made it to where my family and I could not enjoy ourselves on the water then you should have not let us start in the first place. We were not warned that our time was being cut short. I will not return to this location or any business that's states "Ernie" on the building as he kept pointing out. Canal Fulton canoe livery kayaks are well maintained and the staff are friendly. We will be recommending them to friends and family and avoiding this location for now on. So if you're thinking about kayaking here, look into canal Fulton... same water, better staff, better pricing, better trip!!!

Water was calm on our ride, but the 2nd we stopped paddling, these kayaks were immediately start to turn sideways or backwards. My son's kayak had a completely jammed seat back rendering it useless and his foot holders were broken so he got a sore back half way through the ride. My daughter's foot holders also broken. Lesson learned, assess the kayaks ur gonna have before they load them on the trailer or just take ur own if an option.
