During our recent visit to Cuyahoga Falls National Park my wife and I happened upon this shelter…read moreand lake while searching for the Ledges Trailhead. The well maintained shelter and bath house were constructed in the 1930's by the local CCC Corp. The lake was also developed at that time to offer the local population an accessible recreational area during the Great Depression. Currently, the lake is stocked with several local species of catfish, blue gill and bass. What a peaceful, zen atmosphere! Fall is definitely the time of year to visit with the display of Nature's Colors.

Today was my families first visit here, my mom slipped & fell while attempting to climb into the kayak - but the slippery bank is the only complaint I have....and it's not much of a complaint as it was a good laugh. Anyways, one of the best things I noticed about this park is that it is completely handicap friendly. They have a cute dock that has a rubber mat at the beginning so your wheelchair wont go full speed into the railing, a wheelchair accessible porta potty, parking & store. Although I did not go into the store itself, you can rent kayaks, paddle boats, john boats, canoes, and electric motors or you can even bring your own. And if you are an Akron resident & can bring proof- you get 10% off your rentals :) The water & picnic areas was spotless, no trash anywhere in sight except a large amount of goose poop but that can't be helped. There was a beautiful variety of trees, wildlife( great for bird watchers ( ...I saw at least 5 Blue Herons!), and anyone who loves dragonflies & damselflies. It was quiet, people were very respectful and it truly was very pretty! I also loved their bulletin board (which is a strange thing to appreciate) because they not only had one of my favorite sayings " The world is not your ashtray, please pick up your butts" but they also had a picture/advertisement up to adopt children from a local agency with a short description of that child (I would love to adopt this tween- Jacob if I could). Another stroke at my heart strings was another sign asking visitors to not keep small fish & requested they release them back into the waters to help the population grow and maintain a healthy balance. So kudos to whomever posted all these things because it shows you have an amazing heart!

Don't waste your time going out it's full of disrespectful people. They have let the water turn to green algae with dead fish floating all over. All they are worried about is money and how many kayaks or paddle boarders they can get in the water to ruin your day! Was hoping my daughter could grow up loving mogadore reservoir like my husband did but that will never happen. Thank you for ruining the love of this lake to make a dollar!!!

It belongs to everyone, now that it is a part of the Cuyahoga National Park. What a glorious setting: sitting high above the valley, above the quarries where the canal stones were hewn, nearly two centuries ago. Surrounded by trees, but with a few large, grassy areas carved out it is perfect for hiking, picnics, bird-watching, fishing. Barred owls sit in the pines, small-mouth bass and bluegill rise to a #18 Parachute Adams and a hiking trail connects you with the rest of the park. I can stand at the south-east edge, casting into the algae-covered waters, and imagine I am high in the Rockies, or perhaps at a private preserve in Scotland. Yet another fine and free benefit afforded by this, our great democracy.

Large soccer fields and open fields, a nice lake complete with a fishing dock, multiple areas with picnic tables and shade, two different kids play areas, benches and swings, a basketball court, and a hidden gem of a gazebo make this such a desirable park. Negatives: location! Its only entrance for vehicles is off of Silver Meadows BLVD, and this park is backed right up to the Silver Meadows apartments. There have been shootings in the past, there is definitely drug activity, and there have been robberies. It's not often, but it does happen. MY kids LOVE this park! We go there to feed the ducks and geese often. BUT this is a park that I do not bring my kids to unless I am concealed carrying.

Goose turds are another issue altogether. Starting in the spring, be prepared to prevent your dog from eating the turds, if your dog is so inclined. Al Lease is great. We have a walking trail with multiple pathways around a cute little pond. The landscape is well maintained with fresh mulch and mowing accomplished regularly. Along the edge of the manicured areas one can see different flora and fauna including bunnies and even find wild raspberries during the summer. Every spring the geese and goslings spend much time around the park. One can reserve the pavilions for around $20/day through the P&R website. During the appropriate seasons, there are athletics, soccer and baseball are most common. Fishing is a common activity seen when the temperatures are right. There are 2 small playgrounds, one is well designed for younger children and the other is more suited for school age children. As for down sides, the wooden structures like the pavilions, the gazebo, and the deck over the water could use some maintenance. Occasionally the mosquitoes get out of hand. Given that the park has a pond, and marshes, this is expected. The City of Kent usually controls this with mosquito spraying but during the height of mosquito season, bring repellent just in case the spraying hasn't been done yet.

Deer Creek Reservoir is a great lake located just West of Berlin Lake, in fact they are just…read moreseparated by a dam, with the water draining from Deer Creek into Berlin Lake. Although Deer Creek is the smaller of the two, it is well worth a visit since it is a great place to paddle or go fishing. The launch is well set up with a cement ramp and a small dock. The lake is limited to electric motors or paddle only. There are several port a potties, a fishing dock, parking lot, and plenty of shoreline benches and tables. I did notice there was a nice hiking trail that led over the bridge by the dam. Did see quite a few people fishing both from the shore and boats. My paddle was excellent, I headed along the dam and then followed the Southern shore which has a nice variety of bays and inlets to explore. The kind of interesting paddling that makes the day really enjoyable. At the North East end you can find the inlet for Deer Creek which will take you through two tunnels under the railroad and the road, which is a cool paddle. I was able to get about 1/2 mile further up the creek before it became too shallow with small rapid, but a great way to cap the paddle. Overall one of the best lake paddles I have experienced in the North East Ohio are, if you are looking for a place to kayak or fish, put Deer Creek Reservoir on your look.

The trail is mainly concrete at the onset, so this can be a little harder on your feet. What I enjoy most, is watching happy dogs, walking the trail with their owners! People are very friendly here and will say hello. This park is connected to a beautiful town, where people are that friendly, so don't be alarmed! On a Sunday afternoon, you will find lots of runners passing you and bicycles too, so just be careful and stay to the right.

This free admission park consists of a large pond (or small lake?) and a couple smaller ones in a…read moreheavily wooded very tranquil wetland area , , some hiking trails, an archery range, primitive restrooms, a large covered picnic shelter. Large pond is suitable for fishing from a rowboat or canoe. As of Aug 2015 most of the hiking trails are "closed for maintenance." Lots of Canada Geese around who have left evidence of their presence all around the edges of the lake. This is a very quiet , serene place. If you are a birdwatcher or like fishing this may be very interesting for you. The picnic area has a nice view of the pond, which probably looks pretty eery on a misty morning.. Be sure to check out the State Nature Preserve next door (parking lot anf access from Mill road) which has a number of hiking trails.
