This spot is OK but a little overpriced for the quality of food in my opinion. I had a nice pumpkin soup offering to start. I cannot recommend the short rib. Though tender it was sadly very dry -- could have a red wine reduction or some sauce. For me, short rib is all about sauce + fatty goodness. This sadly lacked both, which was disappointing given the NYC prices. The nice, homey interior seems befitting of the nice country suburban vibe of Ridgefield. Maybe it was an off night -- maybe I'll give it another go. read more

What an amazing find!!! I was on FB earlier in the morning just looking around. LeFarm had a status asking for the best brunch places in Fairfield County and someone mentioned Bailey's. It was on the way to where we were headed so it was game on. When we walked in, there was only one other table. I was a bit nervous. Never good if it is that quite. We sat down and were handed menus. The deco was awesome. Very low key with a southern touch. A burlap ceiling and a bit of gingham here and there. The menu was interesting and I wanted to try it all! We ended up getting Crispy "Scotch"Egg and Cheddar Popover to start. Oh and we had bloody marys too! I've never had a 'Scotch' egg before. It was great, and I've been trying to figure out how to recreate one ever since. The Cheddar Popover was just as delightful. For our meals I chose the cauliflower and eggplant wrap and G got some sort of pate omelet. The wrap normally came with a house side salad, but I asked for the Connecticut Kale Salad. OMG. One of the best salads I've ever had. PS - It was so empty because they close from 3-5 everyday. We just made it in time! Can't wait to go back! read more

This place just gets the amazing balance of flavor, texture and the concept of Farm to Table. Nothing special when you look from outside, cosy interior nothing fancy, but the did food rocks. The server was very knowledgeable and her suggestions were phenomenal. They have a simple one page menu and are always willing to accommodate. Don't miss the desserts. Btw what was interesting is that the chef changes the menu around 8 to 9 times a year based on the season and local produce. Must try and I think you will not be disappointed. So you pay more, yes but that is why you get the high quality local seasonal produce. read more

Bailey's Backyard - American Near Me - Ridgefield, Connecticut

Love it. Last night was my first time here - went to have a quick dinner before a show at Ridgefield Playhouse. **Note - if you are going to a show at the Playhouse (great venue!) - THIS is the place to go beforehand! As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with a warm, friendly smile and were told we could choose wherever we'd like to sit. They offered the patio (to which I said, "You have a patio?!?") and we took it. There were maybe 6 other tables with people at them. Our server (kicking myself for not getting her name) was extremely attentive - but not TOO attentive. She suggested a red and a white wine based on our tastes (my friend had red, I had the white) and her suggestions hit the nail on the head - we were both thrilled. Friend had a burger with mozzarella and it was cooked to perfection. She LOVED it. I went 'different' and had watermelon gazpacho - something I never had but was glad I did. The mint complemented the fruit very well! I also had the mussels in garlic broth. WOW. So tender and tasty. Would absolutely get those again. Would've liked to have tried some more food but we had a show to attend just around the corner. Had a lot of laughs with the staff. Just a warm, friendly, comfortable place. Undoubtedly....we will be back - and I'm already looking forward to it! read more

The best of the best in RIDGEFIELD. Get the sweet earth sliced to go. Staff is so friendly and warm.

Just left the location after a Valentine's dinner. We arrived at 7:30pm, ordered our meal at 7:40pm, received our appetizers at 810 - 30 minutes later. We were served our entree at 910pm - An hour later and lukewarm! We didn't bother sending back after waiting as long as we already had. During the wait between appetizers and entrees, the waiter had no problem visiting our table numerous times soliciting wine refills but never once communicated the status of our entrees. While we waiter we sat and witnessed other patrons who entered the establishment well after we arrived, served appetizers, entrees and leave before we received our entrees. This is our first location we've visited as we start our food blog 'Foodies for the people' and we have to say it will be memorable first one but for all the wrong reasons. We've never visited a location with such high expectations and drop so quickly. Three glasses of wine, appetizer and entree for two = little over $200 - overpriced for the experience, service and quality of food we were extended by Baileys establishment. The appetizers were undersized but flavorful while the entrees were a HUGE let down! $48 bland lamb chop under hard to find polenta and a $40 'New Jersey' Diner caliber Halibut dish - uncertain if BB was that bad or New Jersey diners are that good. Either way, we can easily recommend dozens of restaurants in the neighboring area offering better service, food and overall experience. Is Baileys Backyard a pass or fail? Totally a Fail for us. on a day that we cancelled our valentine dinner at Mazzo Danbury in place of Bailey's Backyard, they failed hard on delivering a solid dining experience. We wont be back and won't recommend to friends and/or family. From the looks of it they have a local 'client' list they seem to cash in on. I've seen 4.5 and 5 stars given to Bailey's but our experience places this joint at 2.8 stars at most. NOTE: We were the only minorities in the establishment at the time of our dining experience. not sure if the lack of service and communication played a part. Key point here because we weren't approached as frequently as our neighbors about our needs or meal status. E.g., the nice older couple who arrived an hour after we did had been served their three course meal - identical to us - within 45 minutes time with frequent updates and an apology from the server for the wait on their food!! While we weren't extended one for our wait. read more

I have eaten at Bailey's Backyard dozens of times. We have had date nights there, taken my parents there, and we've even had birthday celebrations there. We have NEVER had a bad meal. Some people have written that they think that some ingredients don't sound like they go well with others, yeah I've thought the same. My suggestion is -try it, you may be surprised. Bailey's has become the restaurant we compare ever other restaurant to and it has always come out on top. read more

Tried it again. Ate in the "backyard"... Brunch. Not bad. Certainly better than my previous takeout experience. Dandelion green salad was good. The pancakes were ok. The waffle was ok. Huevos Rancheros was...ok. In my previous review I gave three stars, though the experience, in isolation, warranted two at best. This time. The three stars was earned. But not quite a fourth. read more

WOW! What a gem in Ridgefield CT. Great food and creative menu. I have been in the hospitality business for 50 years and have eaten is some fine dining restaurants this is one of those special places I encouraged you all to try. The young chef ,Zach a graduate of Johnson and Wales could not be better. He is amazing. His choice of ingredients that go into a dish are unusual but work so well. Prices for what the quality and presentation are reasonable. Its also a farm to table. I drove 45 minutes to try and it and have my new favorite place in CT. Ao Wed a $40 tasting menu for 3 courses well worth it for what is on the menu. Bruch, Lunch and Dinner. Also a more elaborate tasting menu. I encourage all you are nearby by to go and if not nearby go. You won't be disappointed. I will be a regular for sure. read more

I went on a Friday night with a 3-yr old and 5-yr old and was afraid it would be s disaster. It ended up being a great experience. The host recognized I wanted them to eat asap and put in their order as soon as we sat down. The food was delicious. I highly recommend! read more

If Consumer Reports were rating restaurants in Ridgefield, Bailey's would certainly be its "Best Buy." Reliably delicious, with a quiet, intimate ambiance, and polished and attentive wait staff. (Perfect English, straight teeth, and no tattoos or piercings. Imagine that.) Bailey's is one of the rare restaurants where I often order the daily special. It's usually a lightly seasoned pan-fried fish with a delightful green salad with balsamic vinaigrette. My favorites off the menu are the duck egg rolls and the pecan crusted snapper. One of my favorite things about Bailey's is the food is always served right out of the oven. I would much rather wait until my food cools down than wish that it were hot. The desserts are to die for. The Key Lime pie is perfect. The chocolate dishes are so good they're sinful. Bailey's offers the best casual dining in Ridgefield. Five stars indeed. read more

Wow. Nothing to say but WOW. I have a white lasagna when I went here, all I could say was how amazing it was. Nothing else was coming out of my mouth. I used to go to Bailey's a lot and loved it, but haven't been there in years. I went today for lunch with a friend. I ordered a roasted root vegetable salad and asked the waiter to tell me what root vegetables would be included; he told me beets, carrots, squash (he was uncertain which squash, but we agreed that most likely -- since it's January -- it would be acorn or butternut squash or the like). The menu said it also included baby arugula, heirloom tomatoes, cracked wheat, dill, Kalamata olives, and feta. I asked for the dressing on the side. What arrived seemed to contain no visible pieces of anything resembling any roasted root vegetable at all (I'd imagined chunks). And the salad was already dressed, despite my having asked for it on the side. There were perhaps two (maybe even one) tiny Kalamata olives, each cut in half. And probably two cherry tomatoes (one obviously an heirloom and the other maybe just an ordinary cherry tomato), each cut in half. No cracked wheat at all, that I could see. There were also numerous very, very thin strips of something pale on top of the mound of arugula, etc. They had no taste and I wondered what they were. The waiter informed me that they were parsnip; and carrot. Carrot? Oh, upon serious inspection I did find a one-inch piece that appeared more orange that the other strips. The strips themselves looked like what one gets when peeling a carrot. No dill that I could discern. The "salad" arrived in sort of a log-shape on my round plate; given the price of this tasteless offering, the price was pretty steep. There was not a lot of it and what there was wasn't at all what had been described on the menu. Disappointing to discover too late that Bailey's is no longer on my list of places to go to enjoy a very good meal. The service was adequate and the surroundings were pleasant enough, but I'll not be going back for a good long while. I hope other people have a more enjoyable experience, though I can't imagine that would be so...... read more

Excellent! Went as a group of 4. We ordered a few apps and each had a different cocktail and entree. Everything was very delicious and so perfectly made. We should have left room for dessert because their menu was one of the most exciting dessert menus I've seen in a while. ...next time for sure! I think the seating is a huge plus here- the restaurant is in a great location where foot traffic tapers off from the main road. We sat at a sidewalk table and it was more peaceful than we expected. There were even blankets available, draped over the chairs- the host made sure to situate one on my chair and my sisters "in case the ladies get cold"...what a nice detail. They also have a beautiful patio section off to the side of the building. Finally- there's a huge public parking lot steps away. Service is also really great. The host could not have been nicer and our waiter was awesome. Everything was timed nicely as well- it was textbook execution of a dinner service and we were very happy and comfortable for the whole meal. I can't wait to go back. I'm so glad my sister-in-law recommended it- I think it's one of my new favorite places! read more

The food was very tasty, but the paltry portions, rushed service, horrific acoustics, and high price were beyond disappointing. We arrived on time and were shunted off to the "waiting area," where we were told we could order "drinks...or water." So we stood awkwardly next to a table where two women were eating and were promptly ignored. The hush puppies "for the table" arrived before the drinks and were the size of quarters. Five little nuggets for four people was actually kind of hilarious. Drinks came next. Beer glasses were unusually small, and wine pour was likewise light. Our friend who had a "signature" cocktail said it was good, if rather medicinal tasting. The house bread (cornbread) came at us fast -- was yummy and different, with a nice sweet butter sauce, but (again), servings were tiny. Boom! Appetizer time! My tomato bisque, pretentiously poured over the huge "croutons" (bread with cheese) was good, and the portion reasonable. But my husband's kale salad hadn't been macerated or otherwise left to soften, and was hard to cut and swallow. Naturally, we'd barely finished the first courses when the second arrived. Hubby and I had sussed out the situation and ordered burgers so as not to arrive home hungry, but our friends settled on "jumbo" shrimp at $9 per, and scallops (the same, I think). They wound up filling up on our fries. My burger was cooked just as ordered and really hit the spot. My husband said his was oversalty, and both the bun and burger fell apart, making it a challenge to eat. The coffee was regularly priced, so we got three, but we ordered just one dessert. The chocolate ganache was delish, and we all got a few good bites, but the the ice cream had that metallic taste you get from bottled flavoring. The bill came before we finished dessert; they clearly wanted us gone. With the noise from the party next to us (tables being so close together and sound management not in effect), we were in no mood to linger anyway. I'm guessing maybe Bailey's is better when it's not a weekend, or at the second seating. I hope so. I see many favorable reviews here, so perhaps we just caught them on a bad night. Nevertheless, we won't be rushing back. read more

Very nice, cozy atmosphere. Food is well done -- not overly fancy, but definitely done with care and talent. Octopus is particularly good. Maybe it's us. Although the food was delicious, other aspects of the experience were less wonderful. We went for an early lunch on a weekday and since we were the only patrons in the front room had a choice seat in the front window. Attentive service followed. However, the music volume was too loud for us to converse (we were talking and listening)so we asked to have it lowered. It was, by a fraction of a decibel. Food arrived - we were sharing a salad and our server brought extra plates, and then noticed a crumb on one plate which he thoughtfully removed with his finger. Since the music was still too loud for us, I asked whether they could turn it off completely in view of the fact that we were still the only patrons. It was, although we were cautioned that it would have to go back on if anyone else came in. We ate quickly. Maybe it's us. Maybe they have concluded that the desired clientele wants a level of music that is too much for us. Oh well. read more

This is my go-to place for when my New York friends come to visit. They all love everything from the laid-back but beautiful decor to the farm-to-table fresh food. I particularly love the way they bring cornbread to the table and then drip it with molasses. This is a five-star restaurant from start to finish! My friend & I went on a Tuesday evening, so it wasn't busy at all. Lucky for us! Our server was super-friendly, polite, and very knowledgeable. He was attentive and explained any questions we had about the food. He knew how everything was prepared and what they were accompanied with. I had a delicious glass of Lincourt Pinot Noir (okay, I had 2 glasses) and my friend had a glass of Prosecco. We started with soup & salad. She had the Potato & Roasted Garlic Soup, which she said was delicious and perfect for a winter evening. I had the Kale and Brie Salad and I wasn't sure if I'd be able to eat all that raw kale, but wow! Best Kale Salad I ever had! The champagne vinaigrette was a fabulous dressing to go with this salad. The Brie and walnuts and apple chips complemented the kale wonderfully. Next we wanted to try something from the "for the table" section on the menu. Upon our server's recommendation, we tried the Tandori Crispy Chickpeas. Not only was it a generous portion, but it was packed with delicious flavors! It was a unique dish and because we wanted to save our appetites, we took the remaining home. My friend had the salmon for her entree. It was a special dish that was not on the menu. She said "wow! this is really scrumptious!" After allowing me a taste, I had to agree. The salmon had a nice crust on the outside and it was a perfect, tender fish. I had the Pan Seared Duck Breast for my entree. The pickled grapes and fennel purée were a fabulous accompaniment to the duck, which was perfectly cooked the way I asked. I enjoyed it very much, as duck is one of my favorite things to get when I go out since I don't make it at home. We could not leave without trying a dessert. I do not remember exactly what it was called, but it was the best caramel ice cream I ever tasted! I will not do an injustice by trying to describe how it tasted, but it was truly to die for! We also had cappuccinos and they were a great way to end a wonderful evening at Bailey's Backyard! I highly recommend this restaurant and I look forward to coming back again. read more

This place was unbelievable. Started the dinner with their mixed salad, and it was perfectly dressed and fresh. Bailey's Backyard -We haven.t been here for dinner in years, but saw a review and decided to try it out for New Year's Eve 2015 and what a spectacular meal we had. Usually, when people ask me where's my favorite place to eat, I have to say, "chez moi," not because of my cooking but because my husband, his mother (and occasionally I) are such good cooks that most restaurants disappoint. Tonight I take that back-- Baileys Backyard was not only a great way to close the year, it was in fact, the single best restaurant meal we've had in 2015! I'd recommend Bailey's Backyard without hesitation and here's why: the two "for the table" appetizers-- clams casino and scotch egg were both gorgeously presented, a delicious combination of savory with an occasional spark of sweet, a nice contrast of textures with just the right amount of satisfying crunch in each dish. We continued on to several more small plates-- At first I wasn't sure about the duck meatballs, but it's important to taste each element of the dish in each bite, that's when the flavor began to unfold, and then to blossom into multiple layers like a brilliant, rare flower. The exquisitely savory broth, with the tang of either escarole or collard green, + the swirl of cauliflower purée + tiny pop of sweet/tart lingonberries all slowly tasted together was just heaven. Then, came the Sake cured Hamachi and avocado tartar-- all I can say is, the tastes developed in your mouth like an opera, with a subtle taste of the fish, a sparkle of pickled ginger, the youthful crunch of peanut and the sweetly perfect tomato picks up a fruit note and delivered it in a swelling choir of flavors wrapped in gorgeous smooth avocado. Close your eyes and imagine! I tell you-- it sang to me in a language I'd never heard before, and with an aria in every mouthful. Yes, dessert was great -- but honestly, after the Hamachi, nothing could compare. Go, check out Baileys Backyard. read more

Food here is delicious. I came here to celebrate my grandmother's birthday and I was simply blown away by all the food. Its was absolutely delicious. Everything is farm to table and you can tell that the food is fresh. I loved the food that I ordered. The pasta is a must. The only reason I gave this place a four was because the service was a little slow and one of my parents dishes was a little on the cold side when it shouldn't have been. Granted, the night I went, it was crowded. Otherwise, I highly recommend this place. read more

Went last minute for lunch with a friend, first time. Limited menu but with good choices. To start; I had the Asparagus & orange salad, my friend had the leak & potato soup. My salad was creative but with the lavander honey on top of the orange wedges it was quite sweet. Personally, I feel there needs to be something to balance the sweetness. Fresh cracked pepper helped but... My friend's soup he reported as "excellent". He certainly finished it right up. We both elected a daily special as the main course, lobster BLT. Along with the lettuce and tomato it had thick pieces of smoked bacon, roasted jalapeno aioli, together with the lobster. As my friend said, "it's different". We both concurred that the smoked bacon, while delicious, together with the aioli overpowered the lobster, leaving only the barest hint of lobster effusion without the the actual taste of lobster. Nevertheless, I'll be back for a second experience before finalizing my opinion/rating. read more
