So happy to have checked out this location in Duluth. I used to frequent this restaurant back home in Chicago so it was nice to see one in the area. Had lunch here with my friend Sari and enjoyed every bite. We were both craving salads so she ordered her chicken cesar and I took our waitress's advice and had the "chicken kabob salad." I was told by "Happy" (yes, that's our waitress's real name) that this is not a regular menu item but I was glad that I took her suggestion. It's a huge salad with grilled zucchini, red onions, tomatoes and chicken. I'm a huge fan of red onions and grilled vegetables in general, so the salad was perfect. (See the photo that I added on this page.) The salad also comes with blue cheese and an awesome citrus flavored vinaigrette dressing. Absolutely great service. We started out on the patio but after an hour the heat became unbearable so we moved inside. Our server outside was Kyle and he was amazing, he answered all of our questions and was super friendly. He made great suggestions when it came to the food and drinks. Although I didn't like my first drink he made sure I found one I like. Once we moved inside the server who took over could've been a bit more observant however the meal she suggested was very bland she switched out my meal and it was great. You will like the decor and ambiance but this place has crappy food now. Ten years ago it was much different. Today I had a jerk chicken sandwich that wasn't anything I couldn't have made myself. Fries were bland and the "Caribbean Jerk Sauce" was just Kraft BBQ sauce in a cup. Very much a store-bought meal. Black bean soup was just black dishwater with bean flecks in it. I wish I could give this place 0 stars. This is possibly the worst service I've ever experienced. I walked in with my group and they were busy, but still had several tables that were clear. The host told me, just a minute or two to be served. I said fine I'll go order a drink at the bar. At the bar, there was one manager and two bartenders, and they were all in conversation and would not acknowledge me no matter how loud I yelled to get their attention. Approximately 10 minutes later a bartender walked out of the bar area and I went and grabbed him and said we needed drinks and then we finally got our drink order in and served. Another ~10 minutes later, I went back to the host boy, and asked him what the heck the wait was for. He had a surprised look and said oops I forgot and then seated us. We sat at our table and no one ever came to serve us. I tried getting a female waitress' attention that continued to pass by and serve the table next to us, two times, but she ignored. A third time when I raised my voice asking for our server, she looked at me while walking by and rolled her eyes. ~5 minutes later, I walked back over to host and asked him who are server was, and again he admitted he did not tell anyone. Went back to the table and waited. Another ~5 minutes later I got up and found another waitress and asked her who our server was and she said no one in her area had been told and she was very apologetic and when I explained the wait times, ignoring and rolling eyes, she felt bad and told me she was very new there and was very sorry. Her name is Meagan, she decided to proactively serve our table, and she was extremely awesome. She continued to apologize, offer great service, and discounted our meal a small portion. I was hesitant to eat here last night because the reviews aren't the best but I was pleasantly surprised! Although the parking lot was full I quickly found a spot...it was busy inside but staff was friendly and seated us quickly in the outdoor area. It was heated with a nice fire pit in the middle. The ambiance was great and there was live music. The menu was full with dishes you can't find anywhere! I found the choices to be very creative. The prices were also great for the amount of food you got. I ordered a meal, cocktail, small plate and appetizer for under $50. I didn't even finish the meal lol. Bottom line--I'm coming back! My roommate and I went out to eat for a casual Tuesday dinner. She is from the Islands and she just moved to the city, so I thought it would be a perfect place for her to try. I have been to Bahama Breeze several times and have always sat on the patio, but this time I was met with less than a pleasant experience. First of all, If your hostess is so miserable that she cannot say anything that even slightly resembles a greeting she probably shouldn't be there. I can overlook that though because sometimes people just aren't feeling it. However the hostess that actually led us to the table was very accommodating and pleasant 5-stars for her, I cannot remember her name. The music is good, the banana supreme dessert was excellent (which was the only thing I ate this visit), and the service was fine. I can be really indecisive even though I've been in the service industry for a long time (hostess, server, bartender, manager) I was happy that my server Alison was patient with me. We like Alison. Roughly around 10:15 I ordered food; they do specials on appetizers from 10-close. 10:16 is when everything that was perfectly fine went down the drain. I was still on the patio sipping the Rum Runner when a squad of roaches crawled across any surface that was vacant. I know I'm outside, so I can look past one or two bugs. However, when I can see 5-8 of them in my immediate view I am disgusted and confused. I'm sitting at the low table when a roach crawled across my foot. My roommate and I moved to a taller table, but to no avail the roaches crawled up the side of their island pub chairs. We informed the manager. She apologized. We tried to push through on the patio let alone in the restaurant. That was until a flying roach probably the leader, hit me in the back. Naturally I jumped up and moved, to which a waitress named Daysia made a rude remark about us being outside so what do we expect. I surely don't expect to have bugs hit me while trying to drink rum. We moved inside. They gave us the wrong tab. The manager found it fitting to give us a 25% discount for our pain and suffering. We still tipped 20%. We promptly left. It is proper to tip well regardless because it is their livelihood. Waitstaff are already extremely underpaid as it is ANYWHERE. Which is probably why they couldn't afford to re-ring the check. I don't know who is in charge of pest control, let's hope they get on top of it. All in all, do better Bahama Breeze. Extremely disappointed. Let me know when the army of roaches is gone. read more

This place is a great place to get some near-authentic island cuisine at an affordable price. The food is legit with plenty of the staples you'd expect - plantains, beef, jerk spices, etc. - that will leave you full due to the heaping portions. But that's not why you'll return; it's the drinks that will bring you back. They're stiff and just right for the wallet. The decor is really nice and the service is well done. I had to open a Yelp account just to acknowledge this establishment. I've been here many times. And am currently sitting inside.. waiting on my food for over an hour. It's take. 20 min for someone to come to the table. Then drink order (bartender was seriously slacking pina colada was terrible, then Bahama mama was equally as bad, glad they weren't able to mess up the Miller light. Well besides the wait time. I ordered the coconut shrimp tacos, they brought me the fish tacos. I specifically told the waitress and pointed to it. She still wrote it down wrong and when they brought it, I told her it wasn't what I ordered. She said she would return it, but I said no I'll keep it. Past experiences with restaurants is if they made the wrong food and you send it back, they don't do a good job with it, maybe because they're upset. Highly disappointed! I really don't get the hype for this place. It's not authentic and just has microwaved food. Maybe people only come for the ambiance and drinks because the food is NOT it! I ordered the spinach and chips for appetizer. The dip tasted microwaved and had a very canned soup taste to it. I couldn't even finish it. Then my entree came which was the fried chicken platter. I substituted my mash potatoes with fries. My fries were undercooked inside! I was disgusted at this point. I told the waiter and she said I could replace with a different side. This is one of my all time favorite "local " restaurants. I live in Ga and it's a 30 min drive from my house so once I get there the atmosphere makes me feel like I am on vacation. Most weekends they have live music outside, and in the winter there is a big fire pit you can eat around. I recently came here during the craziness of Covid-19. I have been coming to this restaurant for years, because the food is amazing. However, the service certainly has gone down hill. I was very disappointed by how the manager Banjo (not sure of spelling?¿) treated my family. He was very disrespectful and rude during a miscommunication with the hosts. Usually, I would expect the managers to help alleviate issues, so this was very disappointing. This is the place to go for good food, attentive service, and a fun atmosphere. I was a bit put off initially when I called one weekend and was told they could not take a reservation for 8, although we could walk in. Because my parents are in their eighties, we don't like to take them out and wait especially amongst a group. I am glad though that we tried them again though after church for my niece's birthday dinner. Our server Imani was on point and helped us make great food and drink choices (all virgin in our case, so this isn't the alcohol talking, LOL). The service was fast, delicious, and pleasing to the eye as well as palate. There is a liberal use of plantains which is a staple in many Caribbean cultures- both fried ripe and green (tostones).
