We haven't been here for many years. It was a great place to go when the kids were little as they got some entertainment while eating. A great place for little boys! Everything was pretty much the same as when we were there 15 to 20 years ago. It hasn't been updated. The service was a little slow. The inside of the restaurant had a strange smell; something like tar. We ate outside for the ambiance. The food was OK. The shrimp plate could've had more fries. The chicken tenders were good. The mac & cheese was not great. It looked good on the outside, but when you started eating it, it was all watery. I certainly hope that this restaurant finds a new location on the runways at the airport. I assume this restaurant has a following of regulars that hopefully will keep them in business when they have to move their location. If this restaurant wasn't at the airport, I would not visit it again. I wish I would've taken a picture of the bar area and some storage area that I could see. It presents itself as dirty since it looks untidy, but they did have a good health score of 91 or 92. read more

I LOVE this place! They offer a great value for lunch (see menu pics), coldest beer in town, and the Chef salad is AHMAZING! The owners Hokey & Joy are wonderful down home folks that make you feel welcome. They have the same cook in the kitchen and the food is consistently delicious! The $100 burger & Joy's hot Philly sub are to die for.... the country fried steak you can cut with a fork. I so enjoy watching the airplanes coming in! Since the upstairs restroom flooded and they remodeled it's so clean and bright inside but I do miss the hanging model planes. I also miss bringing kids to watch the planes. I've been here twice and tried different things and everything I get tastes like canned/frozen food. First time I got flounder, mashed potatoes and slaw. Second time I got chicken tenders. Flounder and chicken tender taste like frozen food, mashed potatoes taste like those powder that you add water to it. The slaw was good. My husband ordered Country fried Steak, Mac and cheese and green beans. Steak and Mac were pretty good but the beans tasted like canned beans. Meemaw came with us and ordered the meat loaf and that was pretty good. We came here during Lunch Special time (until 3pm) so you get 1 meat + 2 sides for $9.95 which is a reasonable price for what you get. It's a nice place to come and hung out. I had the meatloaf and okra and it was so good. My son had mashed potatoes with gravy and he said the gravy was plain but he never eats gravy on anything, lol. I think they could get some new flooring to get the old smell out of restaurant. Spent thousands of dollars here over the years. Got my club to hold it's lunch meetings there and on Sundays would take my customers to lunch there. Never less than 10 people and once I had 30 people show up. You would think that I should at least be able to come in and get my order but NO. Hokey and Joy really don't have a clue. The back kitchen area is a biohazard site. The customer service is terrible. I kept giving them a second chance only to be embarrassed in front of family or guests. Last timeI went Hokey was sitting at the bar watching TV. I came in, said hello and then sat there for 30 minutes and nobody asked me if I wanted a drink, took my order, nothing. Another guy came in, sat down, the young girl server came out and waited on him and ignored me. Dude got his drink, food, ate and left and the whole time I had never even been asked what I would like to drink. I am polite and tip well, I haven't ever complained about anything. So looking forward to these people leaving and someone else taking over this restaurant. read more

We wanted to try the restaurant and went at 3:00 for a late lunch/early dinner. My friend ordered a club sandwich & fries, which she seemed to enjoy, and I ordered a Reuben. My word of advise is to not go there and expect to get a deli-style Rueben sandwich. The corned beef was something you'd order from Kroger deli (rubbery and not brisket corned beef), the cheese was American instead of the Swiss that was on the menu and the bottom side of the sandwich was soggy. This place is a hidden gem. Based on Yelp reviews we decided to go here and were blown away at the service and entertainment. Besides the comfortable patio where you see planes coming and going on the adjacent runway, you can watch the sunset as the panoramic view of the sky is wide open. My wife, myself and another couple arrived at 6:30 for dinner and sat inside in front of the bandstand with a clear view of the stage and the window to the patio/runway. By 9:00 we summoned another couple to come meet us who are Lawrenceville born and raised and were shocked to find that this restaurant/bar was here! As they drove in they kept saying to one another, "there can't be a restaurant out here", but low-and-behold, they arrived. Later, they kept saying, "I can't believe this has been here all along". Ok, the real surprise of the evening was the service. The food and drinks were good, but even before our waiter took our order, a rock-and-roll dude came up and engaged us with friendly talk and even went to get our drinks (almost as if he was pitching in and helping out). He also stepped on stage and was fidgeting with his guitar and prepping for his show, then went back behind the bar and served a beer to another patron. We kept wondering, "is he the entertainment? Or the owner?" Turns out he's both! While a few others were eating nearby, it was essentially a slow night, but he gave us a full 1-man show until 10pm (when they close on Friday). He was soo good, and is a Waylon Jennings buff. Evidently on occasion his music partner (a Willy Nelson buff) joins him for a show. We'd like to go see them together. A sweet ending to the night was when he called his wife (Joy) on stage and they sang a few duets. She'd been waiting tables, and working around the restaurant, so it was cool to see this labor of love. They were funny together as she had to be coaxed to come up and sing, then in her coy way would rebuff some of his on stage flirtations. (A bit like Sonny and Cher used to banter). Bottom line, we had fun and we're all going back! It's not a late night place, but it's cozy and homey, and super friendly. We even bumped into our neighbor who came by with his dog for a bite on the patio. (A bite of food, not a dog bite). Anyway, check out this place. It's simple, fun, and down home! I'm torn on my review here. I adore the location and that this place exists for my kids to be able to sit outside and watch planes land and take off while we eat. The food was decent- I ordered an iced tea and an egg salad sandwich for myself and a sprite and a cheeseburger for my daughter. The prices are good- $7 for the sandwich with fries and $5 for the kid's cheeseburger with fries. The food is adequate, nothing to write home about but definitely tasted good and was satisfying. Now I am going to definitely go back and try it again since everyone knows not to write a review after only one experience since they could have been having an off day. But that being said the service was pretty lacking- we sat outside and there were more people inside than outside so maybe we became a bit of an after thought. We never received any silverware. I ate here with 2 of my friends and their sons and we all shared one menu. We asked several times for napkins and were never brought any. The food took awhile to come out, we were there for an hour and a half and got asked if we wanted refills once. (Although she did give us to go drinks when we left which was awesome.) A true mom and pops restaurant for true aviation aficionado. I spent a good two months in Lawrenceville and I used to go here two to three times a week. The burger is amazing and the home fries are well battered. Their bread pudding is to die for no matter what flavor you choose. I've probably eaten each one, minus the seasonal ones. On a great day you can sit out and watch planes taxi, takeoff and land. What's not to love about that! All while eating great home cooking styled food. Loved it! read more

Came to lunch with my coworkers and the service was very slow. We waited for at least 5-8 minutes to be seated. There was 1 waitress at the time and maybe a group of 6 older men and a few other people in the restaurant for lunch. We were a group of 10 so it worried us a bit. We finally got seats and eventually had to ask for menus ourselves . The food came out at a pretty good amount of time for our group and everything was really delicious. Everything tasted fresh and cooked to order. I didn't hear any complaints. The only complaint overall was the service time. The restaurant itself has a home style feel, cute airplanes hanging from the ceiling and a good view to watch the planes take off. Definitely a good place to take your kids who love planes or even for yourself. A must go at least once. read more

Being directly on the ramp is one of the nice features of this KLZU eatery. Having been stationed at KLZU for several days I had the opportunity to sample quite a lot on their menu. My 1st experience was kind of strange...sat at the bar because the place was packed. From the looks of it I was going to be entertained by a band because the stage was set up with a couple of microphones. I was wrong...I was unknowingly attending a regional meeting of the Tea Party. I was polite and stopped eating when they started to pray for the resignation of Obama, and stood up for the pledge of allegiance. After some very scary rhetoric I shoveled the rest of my food down and promptly left. I can only assume that the major difference between this group and the KKK was the lack of burning crosses and bed sheets with holes. This restaurant is located next to Briscoe Field, a regional airport. Good burgers, friendly service, and fun watching the planes take off and land.
