Seriously, been coming here since the 1980's. For them to last this long and open way before then says a lot already. In my opinion these are the best bagels and twisters in the city hands down or up depending on how you see it. I came here again to feel some nostalgia and they didn't disappoint the bagels are still awesome. They have some of the best lox and cream cheese. I wish they still sold the kaisers and hot dog sticks though. But when I asked they said they don't make them anymore. That's a shame the kaisers paired up perfectly with a homemade burger. And a buttered stick was just amazing. IYKYK. Anyways this please is a gem and goldmine in the heart of the city. I will be back for another 30-40 years of patronage. I know they will be around. This place has improved a LOT. Their bagels are ok and they've increased their repertoire to include pasteis de nata, a good range of favourite cookies and squares. Clean. What makes this place shine are their pleasant, hardworking staff with a genuine smile. Food (3/5) - I thought the bagels were okay... tried both raw with butter and also toasted. Bit too crunchy for me and seemed to lack some flavour. Service (3/5) - Place gets busy and it was a bit slow waiting in line to order 3 bagels. Atmosphere (3/5) - Nothing special... some dining tables and take-out counter. Parking out front is not great. Brooklyn born, I go to Bagel World to buy their bagels, rye bread and cream cheese. The bagels are too big. In my opinion, these bagels would be perfect if they were smaller. They are moist on the inside, and crusty on the outside, with toasted poppyseeds (my fave). CAVEAT: the parking is a nightmare. read more

My wife complains that you can't get a good NY style bagel in the GTA, that a lot of places make a soft bagel but Bagel world makes a proper crusty firm bagel that is soft on the middle...other places it feels like the bagel is a dinner roll. Good selection of bagels and other baked goods. The challah was okay - and for lunch we had bagels and whitefish and the kids had grilled cheese on challah. They loved the grilled cheese but the service was so slow. Also parking is a nightmare - so difficult to get in and out. Our fist choice is always to get a Montreal bagel but for NY style, Bagel World is our choice so far in the GTA. read more

Our regular weekend brunch spot! It's consistently good, no-frills, and always busy. We've never had to really wait for a spot as it's fast moving, but you can expect it to be busy most weekend mornings and over lunch. My husband's go-to order is the spinach feta omelette with a flagel (he loves this). I get the shakshuka typically but have also tried the tuna platter. Both are excellent. The bagels are fresh and the food is good. They recently added more to their menu (like Benedict's and pancakes) which have seemed to be a hit. read more

This place is one of North Toronto's bagel lovers hubs and it's BUSY! My cousin loves this place and I decided to join her for breakfast. Lots of tables for various sized groups but there was still a line up out the door...did I mention they were busy? We sat at a table for six and generally shared the table with a couple of strangers. It's definitely diner type seating and loud but you can easily have a conversation without being drowned out. Fairly broad menu! You'd never guess but their specialty is bagels (I know shocker right?); however, aside from that they have eggs, salads and other kosher dairy fare. I had eggs and a bagel and the eggs were done perfectly and the bagel was fresh and soft. Toughest question of the morning: what type of bagel? We're in a bagel place how am I supposed to decide? Despite being busy we weren't rushed out by any means and my cousin and I were able to lounge over a second cup of coffee (felt slightly guilty as there was a line out the door). Price point was extremely reasonable $10 per person for coffee and breakfast. Only downside: parking around there stinks! Small lot and most spots are claimed by other stores. Overall, if in the area and feel like a fresh bagel, check this place out! read more

Passing this locations en-route to the condo, its always a busy place that's serving home made bagels and breakfast/ brunch. If you have a soft-spot for Bagels of different kinds, this is truly your venue. I'd envision this place has been here for decades with tons of patrons in all ages coming here to enjoy their baked good and classic simple breakfast. Parking in the plaza can be a task since it's right off Wilson just west of Bathurst. To keep it simple, I decided to order a range of their popular bagels; Onion with poppy seeds, cheddar cheese and sun-dried tomato. The poppy seed Twister warm is the Gold medal in Bagels I my opinion not even close. A very good takeout operation here with fresh spreads, juices, salads and desserts with easy tap and go. Hope to take a seat at the counter and order one of there delicious omelets and greek salads soon. read more

The service is going downhill. As it was crowded on a Saturday I asked if I could sit at the lunch counter where another single diner was sitting. After 10 minutes of sitting without anyone coming to get me water or coffee, I left. It seems the older servers who have been so pleasant to people for years are being put on other shifts, replaced by friends of the manager who think they will get bigger tips prejudging clients. The bagels are good...perhaps some of the best in Toronto unless you are an absolute fan of the Montreal style. The food is good too. The service is also good and the best it can be... under the circumstances. The circumstances are that the tables are jammed together so that you are basically having lunch with the folks on either side of you. Don't go there if you want to have a private conversation. Solid brunch move on a Sunday at around 2pm. Boy ordered a cheddar omelette and added onions, which cost him a dollar. Not a huge deal, but it seems like a lot for a bit of sauteed onions. I have driven past this bakery so many times and always swore I would stop there one day. Problem is that they close at 4pm on weekdays, which is very inconvenient for basically most employed people. I guess that's criticism number 1! Still, I vowed I would try those bagels. I had heard such good things. I wondered if all my life I was merely eating bread, and not experiencing true bagel deliciousness! Finally, I made a special trip, on the weekend to Bagel World JUST for those bagels...and what a disappointment. We got four bagels: 2 plain and 2 "everything". We sampled the plain one first...they were bland and tasteless, with no crispness on the outside and softness on the inside, like I have come to expect from a good bagel. They were basically just huge hunks of dough. They were expensive, although large, but I didn't finish mine. I nibbled the everything bagel and was equally disappointed. In the end I had to throw them out. They sat there on my counter for days, before it finally became clear that no matter how hungry I got, I wasn't going to bother. SO what happened? A bad batch? Maybe I hyped them up too much? Who knows! All I know is that I can't figure out where the rav reviews come from. I wanted to like them so badly...and they were just bleh. Agree with all other posts so I'll just add this: every time I've been, the servers ask me if I'd like my bagel toasted. Definitely do not have yours toasted! (if you ask them this they will tell you as well if you ask) The bagels are so lovely and fresh as others have described, that it would be a waste to toast. If you are bringing home and freezing, that's another story. I also ordered the whitefish salad on a poppy bagel. I can't really compare it in terms of texture to other places as it was my first time having whitefish salad however I will say the flavour was delightful - smoky and salty but not too much more. I LOVE THIS PLACE. No fuss/ low key/ and consistently delicious bagels. You really can't miss this place if you drive along Wilson Avenue as its gigantic 'bagel world' sign is iconic and looms over all the other stores in the neighborhood. My favourite is their flat bagels - when toasted they have a texture bordering between the chewiness of a bagel and the crunch from bagel chips. In the winter, I like having their pea soup which is loaded with ingredients whilst my orders in the summer usually are their omelette dishes. They also have a very tempting counter of freshly baked goods and soups that you can take away; i often buy two dozens of flat bagels to stock up at home before I return since they are that good! Like every good Toronto Jewish family, there are disagreements about things. Especially bagels. Some say Kiva's, some say What-A-Bagel, and others even say Gryfe's for some reason. Maybe they spent too much time in Montreal or something. But the answer for me has always been Bagel World, and I don't see that changing any time soon. It isn't just about the bagels here, no sir. It's also the experience. Parking in the ridiculously narrow parking lot without damaging anybody's vehicle (especially your own) kicks it off. Then on a Sunday morning you need to push your way past the throngs of people to get to the counter for your dose of flour-based crack. Not just any people, though, a mob of people who all want their bagels, and they want them now, dammit! Once you finally get to the counter, it's time to get your dose. I like the twisters with sesame seeds, but there's about 15 or so kinds of bagel to get, in both twister and regular formats. Twisters hold more cream cheese and smoked salmon, so it's a given :-) When fresh, these bagels are unlike any I've ever tasted elsewhere. Just crispy enoguh on the outside to be satisfying, but not enough to lacerate your mouth with shards of crust. The middle is perfectly chewy and tasty, fairly dense, but always moist. What more could you want? They even freeze well - take them out, microwave for a few seconds, then douse them in water and bake for 15 minutes in the toaster...thicker/crispier crust, but otherwise like new! I do this when I transport the best bagels ever back to California, since they think bagels are supposed to be light and fluffy here. Sheesh. Oh...leave the bag of (warm) bagels in your car for 20 minutes in the sun and be greeted by the smell of heaven when you next open the door! read more

Bagel world doesn't have out of this world bagels, their parking lot makes me want to play smash em up derby and the waitresses are barely alive. The good: - The bagels were fine, but they weren't outstanding. I was not offended by this product. They have nothing on Gryfe's which is just around the corner. - Most in our group agreed that the chocolate pastry (called "Buffalo") was excellent. - They have a funny sign. The bad: - The parking situation here is straight up unacceptable. I wanted to scream at every single other person in this parking lot. People parked wherever they felt like it, where there clearly was not a spot. I had to make a 50-point turn to just back out of my spot because some haggard old man had parked perpendicular to the painted lines and made his own spot where none exist. Massive parking lot failure. - Our waitress was an empty shell of a woman. - Dirty bathrooms that I didn't even get to use because a woman yelled at me 'there is a line' like... I see that because you and your mullet are standing here. The verdict: I will never go to Bagel World again, but if someone offered me a bagel that they made at some type of conference (which is the only time I imagine I would be offered this bagel by another) I wouldn't refuse their bagel. read more

A group of Yelpers stopped in for breakfast at Bagel World after a failed UYE at Gryfe's. This bagel shop also has a sizable eat in area and, as well as bagels and other baked goods, they serve a range of Jewish breakfast/brunch fare. I had a bagel with cream cheese and lox ($8.95). It comes platter style with a fresh bagel, a few strips of smoked salmon, and a mountain of cream cheese. The bagel was your standard grocery store variety, only much more fresh; good but not worth going out of your way for. The smoked salmon was also pretty average. The cream cheese was amazing, whipped and super creamy. The buffalo is also recommended. It's a huge chocolaty pastry. Very dense and rich, so get it to share. This is a dairy restaurant so don't expect any meat, especially bacon! read more

Ever since my visit to Bagel World, I've been reminding myself to sit up straight. If you see the kyphotic waitress who served us, you'll know what I mean. She's awesome, by the way. I had the whitefish salad[1] on a poppy bagel ($7.95). It's served with slices of tomato, onion, and cucumbers. The bagel was fine untoasted; dense and chewy the way I like it. The whitefish salad, on the other hand, was dry. I'm used to having it with more mayonaise and this was so flaky, I could barely get it to schmear. The coffee is the standard deli coffee but at least ours was served super hot, fulfilling Shari M's desire to peel a few layers of skin off the mouth. The food was awful and the service was mediocre. As soon as we finished eating, the waiter brought our bill in less than a sec, even though the restaurant was nearby empty. It seemed a bit forceful to pay and leave as soon as you're done eating. I expected to be "wowed" by bitting into a bagel since it's called "bagel world" well, I would say, i'd take timmy's bagels any day over their tough cardboard bagels. Nothing tasted fresh. Time visited : Friday morning at 11am. Atmosphere: hometown, trucker style, everyone knows your name coffee/bagel shop. Cleanliness: much improvement is needed. Definitely not at par to my standards. Constructive criticism: servers who make the personal butter cups should be in hairnets and wear gloves while doing this task. This should not be done while on the restaurant floor. This task should be carried out in the kitchen by chefs. Not by waitresses who handle cash. There's a grill near the bar stool area. The cooking area has a microwave on the top of a rack in a corner. Full of dust! Not adequately cleaned. I imagine it to be far more dirtier in the back and side corners of this area. Cuisine: American/Jewish inspired. All day breakfast. Facilities: washrooms in the basement from what I'm told. No thanks. I'll hold it! Counters, tables and cooking area look filmy with food residue. This place needs a desperate re-vamp and deep cleaning. Food: I ordered the large Cream Cheese with Lox on a large Twisted Sesame bagel. The bagel was fresh and the cream cheese was whipped and creamy. The Lox (salmon) was good, just wish the portion matched the price. To drink, I had a chocolate milk. Parking: private, but make sure you park in the designated space provided for Bagel World customers. Parking is extremely tight. Watch out for the wooden hydro poles. The service was a little scarce to get started, but if you get their attention and let them know you're there, everything goes smoothly. Having a dairy and gluten intolerance, they were very accommodating with the meal (and as it is kosher cooking) this was something I could count on. The food was exceptional, hot, and exactly what we ordered. The atmosphere is eventful, so don't go here expecting a quiet meal; it's a busy place. Getting bagels to go is a bit of a challenge, not baca use of ordering, but because you have to watch and learn the ebb and flow of the line. Note: when you pay for your food at the counter, you can ask them to grab you some bagels as long as you're not making specific choices: like three sesame, two poppy, 1 pumpernickel... Overall? Great fare, great food, good service, decent coffee, and bagels that are to die for. read more

A friend and I went here for brunch and had a terrible experience. First, it was next to impossible to get a table, which would have been understandable had the place actually been busy. Due to the torrential downpour, however, there were several vacant tables; as we would soon learn, this is not a place worth trekking out in the rain for. We waited to be seated, as per the sign's instructions, and were completely ignored for a solid 15 minutes, even though there was no one in front of us. Finally, my friend went up to a waitress cleaning a table and asked if we could have it. Score. Next came the ordering. My friend had told me about their crunchy French toast, which she attempted to order but was told they didn't have any. Fine, it happens. When I placed my own order for chocolate chip pancakes, I made sure to inquire about their availability. The waitress assured me that they had them, only to come back several minutes later and tell me they were out. It was annoying, because I had specifically asked about them, but whatever. My friend and I both ordered the plain French toast (I made the mistake of adding an Israeli salad to my order which was basically a bowl of chopped onions with some other slivers of vegetation tossed in for good measure. Needless to say, it was completely inedible). My friend was charged extra for a couple strawberries sliced on the side. The French toast was okay -- nothing to write home about -- but the service went from bad to worse when it came time to pay. The waitress asked us while we were in the middle of eating if she could bring us the bill so she could cash out, which I thought that was very annoying and unprofessional. She then proceeded to sit and chat with her friends for 20 minutes while we tried to get her attention, which was no easy feat considering she kept her back to us the entire time. Afterwards, my friend and I wandered over to the bakery section to check out the over-priced ruggelach and cookies. The woman working behind the counter could barely speak English but still managed to roll her eyes at our questions. I've been a customer of Bagel Worlds since I was six years old. It's been a family tradition for years and we still go back. It's not for the ambiance, it's not for the specials, the view or even the service - it's strictly for their heavenly bagels and the nostalgic feeling I get whenever I walk in there. Heck, the waitress that was serving my family almost 20 years ago, still works there. You're probably wondering, why such a low rating. I'm getting to it, I'm getting to it. At Bagel World, it's an adventure and you've got to work for the bagel. From the moment you pull up, you're fighting for a spot, while squeezing through a tiny strip of asphalt that leaves no room for mistakes. It takes talent to get in and out of that parking strip. No time to relax, put the car in park and hustle to the door. There's almost always a line up at the door and since no one really seats you, you've got to be like a hawk, scoping for the next available opening, keeping your defense on for the families behind you who might grab it when you're not looking. You've found a table, but it's covered with the last families meal. No worries, just squat. In about 5 minutes someone will be there to clean it. Grab a menu and figure out what you want quickly. It's hard to get the attention of the waitresses, they move quick. Once you've ordered, you can relax. Your bagel and whatever else you've ordered should be out in no time. The three star isn't based on the above. That routine comes with the territory and I've come to welcome the adrenaline rush I get going through that door. It's custom. Us Jews, love our customs. My rating is based on Bagel World starting to change their authentic tune. In the past three years Bagel World has started franchising. They even had Restaurant Makeover come in and give the place a slight polish. They changed their prices slightly but this past weekend I was shocked at the value of my egg and tuna take out order. I swear, they're pricing this stuff like it's gold. For a medium container of tuna $14.50. That's just a little below what a large runs you at places like Kiva's or Sunrise. The egg was even $12 for a medium. I lost Pickle Barrel to franchising and commercialization 8 years ago I'm scared to see the same thing happen to Bagel World. The moment a restaurant decides to franchise and promote themselves in the mainstream, is the moment they loose their true identity. This may seen crazy, but I can only hope that the price of their tuna and egg is the only thing thats changing. I would hate to loose another childhood gem. read more

I hadn't been to Bagel World in YEARS and I had a meeting in the area so I was really looking forward to having a fresh baked breakfast there before my meeting. I even intentionally arrived early before my meeting just to come here. I arrived and the place was very busy. Numerous staff whisked past me -- so they knew I was there. But NO ONE said a single word to me. Not even a quick "someone will be with you in a moment." NOTHING. I was standing there for five minutes, maybe more. Still NOTHING. So I left. They lost my business because they had absolutely no customer experience. None. It's awesome if you can do well on regulars that you treat like gold -- as you should. But many a great business with lots of loyal regulars have died sudden deaths when those regulars just don't come back as often as they used too as they are enticed by the ever growing competition. read more

It was busy on a Sunday morning but they were able to seat our group of 6 right away. I ordered the benedict florentine but they were actually out of english muffins so they offered to substitute it for a flat bagel which is great because bagels are their specialty and I agreed. In retrospect, that might not have been the best idea because it's pretty difficult to eat a poached egg off of a very large, flat bagel. Challah might have been a better choice because it was a bit messy but it was still very good, a bit better than your standard breakfast fare.The prices were decent and the service was okay; I would definitely go back for a quick breakfast but it's nothing super special. 3.5/5. read more
