I've been obsessed with Montreal style bagels since I visited there in almost 10 years ago, so anytime I can find a place that carries that style I go for it. Found the Bagel House on Yelp and swung by on my way out of town to get a dozen for us and a half dozen for our neighbors, plus some pastries for the road. Now, they didn't fully scratch the itch I've had lo these many years but they're a good bagel! They had the slight sweetness I was hoping for but I just wish they had a bit more of the wood fired bake on them. But we did like them and we went through a dozen SO fast! It was our last day in Toronto and we wanted to satisfy our bagel cravings before leaving. We were still reminiscing about our time in Montreal a few days prior and Yelp brought us to The Bagel House. The worker was busy with the fire brick oven making fresh bagels so you know they are legit. I got salmon lox with a sesame bagel. Although it was pretty close I feel like it was missing a bit of the sweetness of the bagels I had in Montreal. I decided to buy 6 additional bagels (3 cinnamon raisin and 3 sesame) to take home to freeze so I can enjoy it later. They will pack it for you in a plastic freezer bag. Its a very old school bagel house - a counter to order and just a few tables. The bagel was really good, they stack the cream cheese and the its a small bagel but it is very filling. I was curious if it were truly made the same way so I bought two bagels to try. They also sell many bagel cream cheese spreads. There are day-old bagels for $5.00 in a bag. Update 2022-12-16: The day-old bagels are in bigger bags now and cost more. There are all-day breakfast bagels, sandwiches, and salads. They make many other baked goods like turnovers, strudel, cream puffs, patties, knish, samosas, and latkes. There are also jams. The two bagels I had, Simply Sesame and Exciting Everything, had the same texture of Fairmount Bagels. It wasn't as fresh but that may be because I bought them at 17:00. The bagels at Fairmount Bagels constantly get purchased so you always get very fresh bagels. There are a few tables for indoor dining and a large screen TV. There are 5 locations in Toronto, with this one being the third. Many years ago, a baker from Montreal's Fairmount Bagels came to Toronto and started The Bagel House. He has since returned to Montreal and now owns Fairmount Bagels. There is free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. There are washrooms in the basement, hence not wheelchair accessible. I've been meaning to try the Bagel House for a few months now since I started my internship back in January at an office nearby and finally got around to trying one of their breakfast sandwiches this week! I ordered the Turkey Breast Sandwich on a plain bagel, which was $6.75 and comes with an egg, cheese, turkey breast and mayo. It was delicious! A nice crunch from the toasted bagel, and each bite had a perfect mix of the egg, cheese and turkey breast. I didn't feel super heavy after eating it but it was also filling enough. The service was quick and while the store was a bit on the smaller side, they have a ton of menu options, including samosas, that I'm excited to come back and try when I'm in the area. read more

I went there to get Montreal style bagels while visiting in Toronto. I got sesame and cinnamon raisins. The bagels were very good! This place was open for 24 hours, so I expected a brick oven was still on fire and there would be so many customers. I visited around 6pm and the brick oven was out of fire and there were no customers. And the light looked dark, it looked sad a little bit. The lady staff looked very tired and no smile... Bagels themselves were really good. They are pretty authentic for the montreal style. We got two Black Forest ham sandwiches. They did however run out of the type of bagel we wanted by noon which was surprising and disappointing. Service was not very welcoming. Menu flashes on and off on their computer screens making it inaccessible to people with reading impairments. They did not have a hard copy or paper menu as an alternative. Went to the Avenue Rd & Lawrence location. The place is so dirty (walls, floor & tables). Shocking that they have a green pass. Pretty sure some city inspector's pocket is being padded. Another off shoot the bagel house. I am quite familiar with the original spot and the mid town location. This one is decent as well. This was a spur of the moment purchase as I am partial to their liver sandwich. The oven wasn't running on this visit (I think the original runs 24/7 if I recall) but the bagel was decent nonetheless. Nice chewy texture with a sweet finish courtesy of the honey water. Their bagels are chewy, light and packed with flavour!!! Must eat within two days otherwise they get hard and stale. I loved their everything, sesame and poppyseed. They're not very thick or doughy so one could probably eat two to equal one regular bagel. They aren't filling. read more

The bacon, egg and such were fairly regular tasting but I did enjoy the bagel itself immensely. I am not sure if I am using the correct words to describe it but the bagel itself was pretty chewy and tasted fresh. I also got to taste the salmon spread and personally I found it to be way too fishy for me. I finished my order off with a chicken samosa which I would not recommend. The shop itself is not very big and I found the setup a bit confusing. When you first walk in you will be by the cash register but do not stop there as you need to go to the back of the store to order (look for the big order here sign). Service was just average which I do not mind as long as I get my food. To sum it up, I would come here for the bagels and not much else. I had a bagel board which is a super crispy common square bagel with lots of sesame seeds. With the side of Dill cream cheese. I love the crunch of the bagel but it was extremely too salty. Walking south to St.Clair I was craving a bagel & while bagel shops are few & far between these days we found one on the west side of the street, The Bagel House. A small tight space with some seats in the front window & a few tables packed tightly together, it is reminiscent in size of a New York deli or a bodega. The bagels are made in a kitchen in the back, while the service counter runs along the south wall of the place. They had a good selection of Montreal-styled bagels & we opted for a couple of onion bagels (why do Toronto places not have good onion & garlic bagels?) with some lox & mustard. There was a generous portion (at least for Toronto) of lox & the bagels were really yummy. They also have a good selection of other deli type foods, including latkes & knishes. Egg salad was sloppy. Packaging was abhorrent. I needed a spoon to eat my sandwich. Coffee was also run of the mill. Self serve coffee that was barely passable as coffee at best. DAMNNNNNN SOOOO GOOOOOOOOD! Went in there this morning to grab something to eat before I went to class and DAMNNNN! It was amazinggg! I bought the turkey breakfast sandwich; it was wonderful! I had it on an everything buttered bagel and the bagel was really fresh and soft! I enjoyed that the bagel was buttered and there was egg and a thick slice of turkey in it. It's close to the gym that I work out at now so I will definitely be coming back here! The employees here were also very nice as well! I went in there for the first time and I was very undecided but they didn't get mad that I was taking too long to order. She prepared by food perfectly and she even gave me a stamp card. Every 7 breakfast sandwich that you buy, you can get a free breakfast sandwich the next time you come back. I didn't even know that was a thing here but she was nice enough to ask me if I wanted one. Downgrade by a star, probably closer to 2.5 and that only because they're always open. Price per bagel almost doubled in a year. Freshness & selection not up to previous years' standards and the new night clerk provides indifferent and demotivated service. OK so $1 a bagel is not expensive these days but keep in mind they sell by far the smallest bagel anywhere and if they could do it at .60 last spring you'd think the next couple of years would be .75 or 80. More disappointing is that they no longer make batches around the clock. The evening & night selection is sparse with only a handful of whatever varieties are left, and bagels were hard & dry like day olds at a supermarket. Last couple of visits ovens were obviously not working. Used to be whatever time of day or night there was always the smell and heat of next batch being baked. It's probably still up to standard for breakfast & lunchtime - but then there's plenty of good alternatives during business hours (with bigger bagels in a nicer shop...) the unique selling point of fresh bagels 24/7 no longer applies and it's not worth walking or driving an extra block if you're closer to a Tim's, Rabba or supermarket. read more

Oh my goodness. I am not a bagel person, but this spot will turn me into a convert. I had the best bagels - plural - in my life thanks to Bagel House. I happened to pass by it during one of my midnight runs. It's located south of St Clair on Yonge Street. It's a small shop and the sign is easy to miss; about 2 minutes walk from the subway station. The place sits about 10 people; it's very small. I do not think that people come here to sit and socialize like they would in coffee shops - you'd come here for the bagel and leave with a bag of bagels. They offer cheese spread because calories from bagel isn't low enough. I tried the salmon cream cheese spread and sweet jesus, it's delicious. It doesn't have the Tim Hortons cream and cheese price, a bit pricier than that, but it has the taste of a higher end cream cheese. The bagel is pricier than factory-produced bagels, but they are fresh. At least I think they are. The Bagel House also have pastries and samosas if bagels aren't​ your thing. They also sell pop and juices are a ​reasonable price. I can say that after having these bagels, I will never go back to buying at supermarkets. I'll make the trip because it's worth it. read more
