Lots of baked goods and had to give their breakfast burrito a try (something a out soft things inside, crispy grilled outside calls to me!)! The breakfast burrito isnt my favourite - missing that tart and sweet factor so all you get is soft, crispy, somewhat saltiness from the bacon and a hint of sweet from the tomatoes ---- and a WHOLE lot of grease, but not much else. For the price, I was expecting a bit more richer flat white, but it wasn't terrible. The interior has plenty of seating and it's located in a pretty busy part of town. Le Gourmaud in Toronto is a great cafe, and seems like a popular spot for Torontonians. We only spent 24 hours in Toronto, and this is one of the great stops that we made. I love Canadian pastries, because they are not as sweet as the ones in the US, and I'm not really a person who is big on sweets and desserts. My family and I stumbled upon this gem after eating at a spot on Queen Street, Walking by, we saw the sign outside saying "world-famous cookies," wnd decided to go in to try some of them. We ordered oatmeal raisin, white chocolate macadamia, and chocolate chip cookies, as well as an orange muffin. At first, I was not really excited about ordering anything, but since we were only visiting Canada for a couple of hours, I gave in, and I'm so glad I did! The chocolate chip cookie was delicious, it had crispy edges with a gooey center that wasn't overly soft. My parents loved the oatmeal raisin cookies, and my uncle and aunt, who initially passed on ordering, couldn't resist running back to get their own pastries once he tasted the muffin. In fact, he and my aunt stocked up on cookies and muffins before we left for New York. Le Gourmaud is a quiet and nice cafe with incredible pastries. I did not have the chance to try their sandwiches this time, but it's definitely on my list for my next visit to Toronto. I hate giving low reviews but this place is so awful. We also visited twice (not by my choice), so unfortunately, I know it is not a fluke. First, you have to traverse through a bunch of construction to find it (not their fault but does not help with the overall experience). All the tables were dirty from previous patrons, and we didn't see anyone wiping them down the two times we were there. You bus your own tables and the bussing station is in a similarly sorry state. They're also not that busy so not sure why the service is so awful. The blonde cashier that we encountered twice was just chatting with the other staff rather than taking our order. When she finally paid attention to us, she was unnecessarily cold like we were bothering her. Again, this happened twice. The first time we went, we only ordered a cookie and a cappuccino. The coffee was mid and the cookie took so long the another staff member noticed and apologized, which was nice of her. The second time we went, the sandwiches behind the glass looked sad, so I got the kathu roti, which was drowning in sauce and became very unpleasant to eat midway through. My partner got the egg bacon croissant - the eggs were rubber, croissant was also mid, and the whole thing was too salty. They also called the wrong order number (we were the only ones waiting for food). To sum things up, the food here was great, but my experience dining in left a lot to be desired. The way the restaurant is run is a bit disorganized, which is particularly noticeable when it is busy. We waited for around 20 minutes to get our food, and were not able to hear our order being called when it was ready. There was also limited seating available, especially since this is both a cafe and brunch spot. I tried the Kothu Roti and Creme Brulee French Toast, both of which were delicious. I am so happy that Le Gourmand on Spadina Ave. is still here after all these years! It used to be my second office for over 10 years where I did sketches for my illustration business and had many meetings here since it opened in 2002. I loved getting their delicious Balzac's Farmers Blend with just a little honey early in the mornings and loved all their freshly baked treats! Today I enjoyed their famous giant chocolate chip cookie still hot from the oven and so crispy and chewy at same time. But it wasn't as giant as I remembered so I hope it was an off day for the baker. Also had their chocolate bomb that unfortunately didn't come warmed up as they usually are so it wasn't great. But the European atmosphere and warm ambiance hasn't changed one bit. It always feels like I've stepped into Paris when I walked in. My visit brought back many happy memories. I do miss the founder of Le Gourmand Milton Nunes who was always so friendly to me and everyone who came in the café. He sadly passed away in March 2019 at age of 47. Love, love this spot. Their coffee is great and your cannot beat their baked goods. Located just south of Queen on Spadina, it's just off the streetcar spot. It's a local fave. This place is awesome. I was staying nearby and after my flight home got delayed, I wanted to squeeze in some work and breakfast before hitting the road. I found this spot on Yelp and arrived around 8:30-9am. It was right off Spadina and was easy to spot... next door to a Starbucks. Why would anyone choose the big box coffee shop over the little guy? I will never understand. The space is big with a giant area filled with seats and tables for dining and cranking out some work. There is a long L shaped counter with pastries behind it as well as the register/pick up area, and a small kitchen. There was a bit of a line when I got there but it moves pretty fast. I ordered an egg and cheese croissant and their turmeric latte. The service was fast af. I went to set up my laptop and hadn't even noticed them call my name because it was so quick. My sandwich was great and I ate every single bite. My latte was not very sweet at all and the turmeric was very forward. I also drank that down to the very last drop. I was excited to try the gluten-free almond cake, so we ordered that along with salted caramel hot chocolate with coconut milk and whipped cream. The hot chocolate arrived cold, and there was no whipped cream and the cup was not full for a size large. It was so thin. It didn't seem like coconut milk was used to either. Great place to get cookies! I went around 2pm on a Saturday and it was busy, but the line went quick. There's about 10 tables there to sit and enjoy your goodies. If you've been to Levain cookie in NYC and loved their chocolate walnut cookie, you need to come here. It's comparable but different. Both are equally good, on different levels. Le Gourmand cookie is a slightly thinner version of the Levain cookie, but equally rich and delicious. Cookies here sell out fast. I tried to come in the afternoon one week day and it was sold out. The good thing is they bake them very fresh, but if you're in a pinch and can't wait 40 minutes, then it's best to come here early to secure your cookies!! I have been here a few times in the past few months and there are some negative consistencies that are making this rating so low. Firstly, the manager doesn't properly wear his mask and is constantly readjusting it by pinching it by the nose and touching it, then not washing his hands and making drinks and serving food. This thin disposable mask isn't protecting anyone from him touching his nose and it's so gross. The rest of the staff are all wearing their masks properly and not touching their face, I don't understand what this particular guy's problem is. Second, service is horrendously slow, whether in person or via an app like Ritual where you order ahead. Today I waited 30 minutes from ordering just to get a drink. The manager was blaming the new cashier but it wasn't her fault, it is just way understaffed. One dude making every drink. Speaking of the new cashier, they definitely threw her on cash before she was properly done with training, as she didn't even know a 12 oz was a small and a 16 oz was a large, even though it is plastered everywhere. Had lunch with friend's here and not only was the food absolutely delicious, the service was excellent. Had the cauliflower soup, very tasty, an Avocado sandwich, an Italian panini, and a vegetable omelet. Everything was grilled and ready within 10 minutes. Came here after hearing that this was the best cookie in the city. In my head, I'd built it up to be something like levain in NYC but very honestly these are even better. AND it's an entire amazing cafe with so much more to offer. Wish we'd been able to have a weekend brunch here but as it was, I picked up a lemon bochon and a salted butter caramel cookie, both of which were out of this world. The lemon boxhon is this sort of compressed croissant with a caramelized skin. Inside there was an amazing lemon curd. The caramelization combined with croissant perfection made me wonder why it wasn't just natural for literally every cafe to have something like this. The cookie too was everything I wanted. Not so fat it's almost a meal like Levain's and in fact a much more traditional cookie shape, this guy was crisp everywhere I wanted a crunch and soft everywhere I wanted a chew.
