We wanted bagels and just so happened to be driving by Bagel Shack. Perfect! The Bagel Shack menu is large and besides bagels, they offer omelettes, salads, sandwiches, and burgers. I ordered an everything bagel with nova lox spread ($5.49) which came out promptly. The big bagel had a befuddling airy texture. I did favor the crunchy shell though I could see how it might not be for everyone. The bagel was also way too hot when the cream cheese was applied and as a result, the spread was rather liquid-like and difficult and messy to eat. There were tons of friendly employees eager to take your order, the bathrooms were freshly painted, and parking was not an issue. The location is convenient to the highway and has seating if you'd like to eat there. read more

I called in an order for pickup they said 10 minutes, my drive alone was 17 minutes I get there go to the cash register and 3 women looked at me didn't ask me my name nothing so I stood to the side knowing they are busy 5 mins pass I go to the side where it says pick up orders still multiple people looked at me didn't ask my name didn't even greet me, extremely rude I will not be going there again read more

My son and I were cruising down NJ 17 on a father-son road trip when we stumbled upon this absolute gem. Easy off, easy on, and a parking lot big enough to land a small plane (which is good, because I don't parallel park before coffee). Inside? Spotless. Minimalistic in that "we care about cleanliness but still have soul" kind of way. The bagels were on point -- perfectly chewy, trendy toppings, and served like someone actually went to Bagel School. The sodas and chips? Weirdly awesome combo selection -- I felt like a kid again, except with better taste. Service was friendly, quick, and knew their stuff. No fake smiles, no chaos, just good people doing good bagel work. Would I stop again? 100%. Might even plan my next road trip around it. read more

Unlike a few other reviews here, I had a great experience on my first visit. Granted I was there at 7:30 am so service was fast and friendly. The bagels are very good and mine had plenty of cream cheese on it. Plenty of parking in on site lot. Can't speak to the cooked sandwiches but will try in future. A bagel with cc is $4 read more

Not a bad bagel. Came to Jersey to attend and celebrate my mom's 90th birthday! I saw Bagel Shack had opened up and had to try it out. Know what I mean? The place is big. Lots of bar type of seating. High seats and counters to eat on. No lower tables and chairs, and they have room for them. Large assortment of bagels and a nice varied menu, where you can order burgers, chicken sandwiches, cheesesteaks and salads. But the key items are the bagels. I always have a Taylor Ham, egg and cheese on a sesame bagel when I visit a new restaurant. First off, the bagels are huge! Second, they are cooked well to a deep brown. Third, I can smell the bagels! This is important because you can get a sense of what a good bagel should be like vs. what you are used to. Bagel Shack has the looks, smell and texture that you want in a bagel. The outside crust is baked to a golden brown but not burned. The inside of the bagel is dense yet chewy. The aroma is bready and malty, if you understand that. My wife had a burger which is large and tasty. My mom had a plain bagel with cream cheese. Loved it! The prices are inexpensive for a bagel shop. The location is clean and the staff are helpful. I hope they continue to develop a loyal clientele and try on new recipes. The variety of bagels, cream cheeses, and sandwiches is outstanding--fresh, creative, and unlike anything else you'll find in New Jersey. They even offer excellent croissants that you don't typically see at a bagel shop, which really sets them apart. The service is fast and efficient, and the staff--especially the ladies behind the counter--are exceptionally friendly, professional, and welcoming. The Bagel Shack is a relatively new and welcome addition to the Ramsey/Mahwah area, boasting easy and convenient access right off Route 17. Service was as expected; adequate and standard for a new bagel shop. The shop itself has a lot of space and potential. However, the bagels didn't seem spectacularly good yet. I feel like the team is still figuring things out as they are new, and there is definitely room for improvement in the product. Given the convenient location and the ample space, I see a lot of opportunity for them to grow and get better. I look forward to trying them again in the near future! read more

Dried out brownie that tasted like paper, I don't know how they are cooking the rest of their food today because it seems ALL OF THE OIL in the state of New Jersey is somehow in the two hash browns I ordered. Straight trash. The sandwich, dried up powdered looking eggs, trash bacon with trash bagel. Watered down coffee, get out of here what are you even doing. After what felt like 100 years waiting for this bagel store open I had a chance to try it twice. That said I will not be returning for quite a while. Maybe they're suffering from opening growing pains, but the staff seemed all over the place and the bagels were really lacking. A bec was mostly bread and no bacon, egg or cheese. I wish I had taken a picture. Same with a bagel and cream cheese- barely any cream cheese. Also, the prices were higher than neighboring bagel stores. Definitely not a good way to start off and attract new customers. I checked in with others in the area and they had similar experiences. I live in Monticello, NY, the self proclaimed bagel capital of the world. The problem is, the gagel bakery there steams their bagels.Bagel Shack still kettle boils their bagels and it is a huge difference. The bagels at the Shack are perfect, the way bagels should be, big and tasty. And the service is awesome. read more

I always take yelp ratings into strong consideration. Only 2.2 stars and 13 reviews in I was going to stay away but figured I'd give them a chance being new and I'm glad I did. The bagels are great. Big but not too big and very fluffy with a decent crust. My sausage egg and cheese was $6.50 which is a good deal these days and after eating half I was already full but kept going it was so good. I stopped at Bagel Shack on two separate occasions specifically because they have a drive-thru, but it was closed both times, which was disappointing. Inside, the place is very clean and the service is fast, which I appreciated. The bagels themselves are huge with a very hard, crunchy exterior- more like biting into a loaf of crusty Italian bread than a traditional bagel. The inside wasn't dense and chewy the way a bagel should be, so the texture just missed the mark for me. Overall, an okay experience, but not quite what I was hoping for. read more

Maybe I'm spoiled when it comes to bagels because I'm from NY but these bagels were NOT good. They were tough in texture, not pillowy like many of my favorite places in the city and lacking in cream cheese. Not to mention, when I visited, the place was nearly empty and they still got my order wrong. I wanted a jalapeño egg bagel with vegetable cream cheese but they gave me strawberry cream cheese. First of all, who orders a jalapeño bagel with strawberry cream cheese?! Secondly, if I was working there, I would've asked to make sure that was correct because it wouldn't sound right to me. Coffee was okay- it was actually better than the bagel which is sad for a bagel store. Finally, these bagels are overpriced for its quality. There's ample space for customers to relax and for staff to work efficiently, with an open baking and prep area where you can watch the bagel-making process. It's easily accessible from Route 17 north or south at MacArthur Boulevard, and parking is plentiful--even large enough for an 18-wheeler. My bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich was a masterpiece: served on a generous, perfectly seasoned everything bagel with thick, crispy bacon, two eggs, and a slice of American cheese, and of course, salt, pepper, and ketchup. An attentive staff member took my order on a mobile iPad, and I was able to pay easily with Apple Pay. Despite the busy crowd, the whole process took less than 10 minutes! Phenomenal. And I say this as a Bagel Train (Suffern) customer for over 30 years. I grew up in Bagel train with my mom and grandmother. Over the years it has faded. Yesterday I even called and spoke to the owner. They had excuses. Not bagel Shack. LOOK at this Lox bagel. The one on the Right (fat) is from Bagel Shack. The one on the Left (pathetic) is Bagel Train. Literally back to back days. My day is complete today. I found my new breakfast home and I am so excited to bring my daughter here as she loves bagels. I had such high hopes for this place, but it turned out to be one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in a long time. The bagels had a strange aftertaste, almost identical to Lender's frozen bagels -- not what you'd expect from a "fresh" bagel shop. Service was even worse. We placed our order and sat down, only to realize 15 minutes later that our food had been sitting on the counter the whole time. When we asked, the girl behind the counter flatly said, "I called your name and you didn't come," with no apology whatsoever. By then, the food was lukewarm, tossed onto a flimsy tin plate with plastic utensils. The atmosphere inside was just as cold and uninviting as the service. What makes this all sting even more is the buildup. After Boston Market closed, we watched the new bagel shop sign go up and waited months for the grand opening. We were excited for a new go-to spot for a weekend breakfast. Holy smoke, was I wrong! If this place did they would have found that they had a captive audience the this area since there are NO good bagels around.
