We wanted bagels and just so happened to be driving by Bagel Shack. Perfect! The Bagel Shack menu is large and besides bagels, they offer omelettes, salads, sandwiches, and burgers. I ordered an everything bagel with nova lox spread ($5.49) which came out promptly. The big bagel had a befuddling airy texture. I did favor the crunchy shell though I could see how it might not be for everyone. The bagel was also way too hot when the cream cheese was applied and as a result, the spread was rather liquid-like and difficult and messy to eat. There were tons of friendly employees eager to take your order, the bathrooms were freshly painted, and parking was not an issue. The location is convenient to the highway and has seating if you'd like to eat there.

Not a bad bagel. Came to Jersey to attend and celebrate my mom's 90th birthday! I saw Bagel Shack had opened up and had to try it out. Know what I mean? The place is big. Lots of bar type of seating. High seats and counters to eat on. No lower tables and chairs, and they have room for them. Large assortment of bagels and a nice varied menu, where you can order burgers, chicken sandwiches, cheesesteaks and salads. But the key items are the bagels. I always have a Taylor Ham, egg and cheese on a sesame bagel when I visit a new restaurant. First off, the bagels are huge! Second, they are cooked well to a deep brown. Third, I can smell the bagels! This is important because you can get a sense of what a good bagel should be like vs. what you are used to. Bagel Shack has the looks, smell and texture that you want in a bagel. The outside crust is baked to a golden brown but not burned. The inside of the bagel is dense yet chewy. The aroma is bready and malty, if you understand that. My wife had a burger which is large and tasty. My mom had a plain bagel with cream cheese. Loved it! The prices are inexpensive for a bagel shop. The location is clean and the staff are helpful. I hope they continue to develop a loyal clientele and try on new recipes. Go ahead and visit Bagel Shack in Mahwah, NJ. I believe that you will enjoy it.

Like... blink twice if you're alive. Mission half accomplished. Barista was polite. Efficient. Straight to business. No fluff. Which is fine... except somehow, despite there being no one in front of me, I was standing there long enough to wonder if this is how time works in dog years. Now let's talk pastries. I was torn between a scone and a muffin. The muffin won purely on looks, it was giving "pick me." And I'm glad I got it... even though it was dry. Like, Sahara dry. Like it needed chapstick. Crumbly too. BUT plot twist: I didn't hate it. I wanted scone texture with muffin taste, and somehow the universe delivered both in one baked good. Accidental win. The place itself? Nothing wild, nothing gimmicky. Standard pastry case, good seating, chill vibes. But the real star here is how clean everything was and honestly, that matters. If I'm eating crumbs that explode on impact, I at least want to know they came from a spotless counter. Overall: good coffee, decent pastry redemption arc, minimal personality but solid execution. Not life changing, but I'd come back, just maybe with a glass of water... for the muffin.

You can grab a tray and choose your sweet or savory baked goods, hot or cold sandwiches including egg sandwiches, and coffees and teas. They also sell whole cakes or by the slice. Their sandwiches like the chicken salad are good but not amazing. I have enjoyed their chocolate chip scones, quiche, and apple turnover. They came out a few times to refresh the baked goods which was nice to see, as other ones often run out of items. Their seating also had outlets which encourages people to sit and stay awhile. It's good to get the app because they offer discounts which can pay off. Their rewards program is earn 75 points (each $1) and get a free pastry or drink so it can take awhile to accumulate if you don't go often (though definitely not a cheap place). And the points expire at some point if you don't use them for awhile. Sunday is a good day to go to avoid crowds since the retail stores were closed. Parking is usually a pain on Saturdays. The Plaza also has a tj maxx, shop rite, cvs, old navy, orange theory, dsw, five below, Michael's, deli, etc.

But as I told my PhD advisor in year 8, I'm not a quitter so I will see this thing through (spoiler: I did quit). I was committed to the bit. Pour City had me at turmeric latte. A maple turmeric latter with espresso and oat milk to be exact. Of course the one time I don't bring my phone with me the place is super cute. I made it shake by taking pics of the coffee itself in the car. Super smooth, velvety even. Rich in flavor. Sensational. I legitimately live 60 miles away. They offered two little slips to each customer - one for a savory crepe and one for a sweet and you can build you own. Great concept but it would be beneficial if the server confirmed the order because we asked for nutella, banana, strawberry, and ice cream and got 2/4. We were in a rush to leave so forgot to check the receipt to see if we were charged for the others; however it was $48 (w/o tip) for 1 panini, 1 crepe and 1 latte so a bit overpriced for the quality of food, in my opinion. The sandwich and crepe were both just okay, nothing to rave about. The drink was aesthetically pleasing with the iced Bear and tasted great. We asked for whipped cream on the latte but our server forgot that too. She also forgot to provide us water until we asked and it came at the end of the meal.  Outside dining was not optimal as it's right next to the railroad tracks and quite loud. There is a kids play area which I thought was a nice addition to the space, but I do wish it was gated off for the younger kids as it's so close to the road! Overall, I found that it was a bit overrated and underwhelming... there are so many restaurants to choose from in the area that I wouldn't opt to come back here.

At the register, it was a little confusing as there was no line that had formed. There were people standing in front of the register and the young employee would just shout "next customer" and someone would decide to go next. In my opinion, I think the back room should have a door or curtain just for the employees privacy. I would not want customers seeing me eating or on my phone while I'm on a break. I'm sure most people know it's a break room, but for those who don't would be wondering why there are people sitting when the front of the store has customers waiting for their order to be taken. Back to the food... I got a panini with mozzarella, tomato, basil and chicken (additional $4.50). And I also go the Clean Green smoothie. They gave me a numbered placard so that someone could deliver my food to my table. The panini was good, but unfortunately the chicken was very dry and the ends of the bread was soggy. For something that was just made, the bread should not be soggy like it had been sitting in a liquid for a while. The smoothie was ok. I think they put too much vanilla extract in it because that was the only thing I could really taste. I think the banana needed to ripen for another day. Also, there was a grainy texture and I can't figure out why as there was no powder added to it. According to the menu, the ingredients are coconut water, banana, cucumber, spinach, dates, and vanilla extract. The total for my sandwich and drink was $31. This is an ok but overpriced lunch. I might come back to try something else in the future.
