Bacon, Egg, and Cheese on Plain
Jeremy B.

11/29/2025 Ate list: Bacon, Egg, and Cheese on Plain - 8.3 Another institution locally. Fresh bagels. Everything tasted delicious. Would absolutely come again.

Homemade chili with brisket. This is the smallest size. Bring pool floaties.

5 stars. You must eat there. Period. **checks app** Apparently I am required to say more. Oh gosh, where to begin? First off, the service is really friendly. Everything looked good, so Bill walked me through all of the options, explained where to pay, just good, solid service. I ordered a bowl of chili, a hot pastrami sandwich, and a cherry lemonade. The lemonade was just that right balance of sweet and tart. Fantastic. When the chili came out I started to realize how much of a challenge I had just entered. The portions are huge. HUGE. I could have done aqua-aerobics in the bowl of chili they brought out. Perfection in the blend of sweet and spice - almost as good as my own. Plus they throw in a hearty helping of brisket in there, and I got some in every spoonful. It's like this creation found its way into my digestive system and hugged me from inside. It's soup szn right now and I will be back to try more. Then the pastrami sandwich came out. This is not some namby-pamby take-some-deli-slices-and-throw-it-on-a-dumb-bagel "sandwich." This is a SANDWICH. This is a bagel sandwich that says "you look me in the eye when you eat me, b*tch." I ordered it on a garlic bagel with lettuce, tomato, onion, and deli mustard. They serve it with a knife and fork as a brazen challenge, and I buckled. Never thought a bagel sandwich would do it to me but it did. The pastrami is piled so high that Icarus would look at it and say "Woah buddy, you're asking for trouble." And every bite was delicious. The pastrami is flavorful, not dry or tired like some places. I just left and I'm already harboring wistful memories of the pastrami. There's so many tasty goodies everywhere. I will 100% be recommending it everywhere I go. Come on an empty stomach and leave on a Rascal scooter. If that wasn't enough for you, they have a classic sit-down Centipede table. Perfection. Flawless victory. No notes.

Staff were so kind. They gave my friend a sample of their chicken soup. Bagels were chewey and a great crust. You can definitely tell they were fresh. Inside feels like a cute little hole in the wall shop. 10/10 recommend especially because prices are really nice too!

Unfortunately, I see why this place has quite a few negative reviews. The food didn't have a ton of flavor. I got to try their matzoh ball soup and some of their challah bread. Neither was particularly impressive, and I really was hoping for that small quaint Squirrel Hill shop vibe but just didn't really feel it. It was one giant matzoh ball, which was decent, but there were far too many onions in the soup. Broth was still pretty comforting. Vegetables may have been canned, I'm not sure. The challah was also just not my favorite. Seemed quite dry. Okay portion and it comes as a free side with the soup but I just wasn't the biggest fan. Maybe I'll come back to try something different next time, I'm not sure.

This is a great bagel place! I do not say that lightly as I have been looking for a while for a place in Pittsburgh that has good bagels. I found it here. Fresh bagels with really good salmon and spreads. Lots of choices too .

We popped into Bagel Factory on a Sunday afternoon, and even after trying just a small portion of the menu, I can tell it will be one of my go-to spots. As I walked in, the last Asiago bagel was being taken out of the case, so I was devastated. But, I noticed the rosemary parmesan bagel nearby, and my heart was less broken. I paired it with the garlic cream cheese, and it was incredible. Every bite was full of strong, savory flavor. My guest went with a standard bagel with lox and added capers and whitefish. I am not a fish lover, but he said it was very fresh. We also split an order of latkes, and they were delicious. Every bite was crispy, and the applesauce paired with it was the perfect sweet balance. Our coffee was made fresh in front of us, and the man working at the register was extremely outgoing and kind. When going on a weekend, you may not be able to get a table because it gets quite busy, but it is absolutely still worth stopping by.

TooGoodToGo bag, bagels, coffee, and orange juice

I visited this spot for the first time on Friday after signing up for one of those "TooGoToGo" grab bags, and I was absolutely blown away with the top-notch service and products. The premade bag included a variety of bagels + some coconut macaroons. The gentleman at the register was incredibly thoughtful and explained everything flawlessly, made sure to check that I wasn't allergic to coconut (as it was in the grab bag), and made my iced coffee perfectly. After I mentioned that I planned to share the bagels with a friend in a few days, he let me know that their bagels didn't have any preservatives and made sure I knew how to freeze them properly and even offered me extra freezer bags :') The service was so spectacular that I decided to buy a few additional items and wasn't disappointed by a single one!! I ended up bringing the grab bag macaroons to an event that evening and shared them with the bar staff and they absolutely LOVED them too!! Such a great experience -- I'll definitely be back :)

I hate to be the fly in the bagel schmear, but I was so disappointed. We stopped in for some pre-shopping noshing, and I happily ordered the matzoh ball soup while others ordered bagels. My soup was not hot and the amount of turkey on my daughter's turkey bagel sandwich was pathetic. (see pic) To make matters worse, the restaurant was pretty much filthy. Can't say I'd come back any time soon.

Bacon, Egg Cheese

This was the saddest breakfast sandwich I have ever gotten! There was a single egg on it. The cheese wasn't melted at all. The bagel was dry. I would definitely skip going here.

Everything bagel toasted with chive bacon cream cheese!
Tyler P.

Left feeling satisfied. The chive bacon shmear was chive cream cheese with 2 big pieces of real bacon! Pleasant surprise. It doesn't have a polished atmosphere but that's what makes it an institution in Sq Hill. The bagels here are above average for Pittsburgh.

Very stimulating store, plays tricks on eyes. As far as the food goes it was a solid reuben. $17 seems steep, maybe thats part of the trick?

There aren't a ton of options on the menu but what is there tastes really good to me. I'm glad this better fast food option is in my neighborhood. If I'm craving crispy crunchy chicken and a sweet Turners drink, I'd definitely be a regular at this spot. Service was friendly and quick. I ordered for pickup and my order was packaged great and ready to go. It's a chill spot that is laidback and like a diner feel. Well done!

Actually made rude comments, looked wacked out and was never at the front desk. So when she also forgot a portion of my order I had to lean inside the kitchen to get everything I paid for. To top it off this "chicken sandwich" was like what 5-10% chicken at best? It's honestly pathetic especially for the price they want to charge I used to enjoy bird on the run However over the past two years it gotten worse and worse every time to the point I will never come here again and advise everyone to stay away...better off going to chic fila where practically a child can deliver a better sandwich and food than this "establishment" also think this is my first negative review I ever left that's how bad it was.

At least ten visits in the last three years: great bar program and solid kitchen…read more Granted that the menu can be dynamic, some highlights: The mozzarella sticks are archetypical. Amazing. Five per order. Get these. Semolina crusted zucchini: yummy. Like someone dared a chef to take a normally healthy vegetable and render it in a way like on to junk food and chef said, "challenge accepted!" One slice of the pepperoni cut in half is still enough food. Delicious. The crust is really good enough to think of it almost as another snack once you have finished the pizza. Sprinkle some Parmesan and pepper flakes on your plate and press it into the crust. Sublime. The broccolini with chili oil is an unexpected delight. I love the grill on the vegetable. Moxxie comments that it should actually be cooked even further. Salads are excellent. Front of house is consistently excellent.

I've never really been impressed by any of them. On that scale, AVP was actually pretty good. The dining area was nice, with clear design concepts and enough space that each table appeared to be a bit of a private space. The staff were also very much on the ball. Systems were in place. People were on top of things. In terms of food, we ordered takeout. The online ordering experience was pretty good. The packaging was great. Everything was labeled extremely clearly. The food was good in a very real sense, but never exceptional. The restaurant made attempts to pair interesting sauces and layers to the various vegetable appetizers, but none of them came across as exceptional. The artichokes were good, and maybe my favorite from among the sides. The greek salad was a standout favorite for the freshness of ingredients and coherence of the dressing. That felt like a win. The pizza was good but not exceptional. We ordered a few slices to try them out, and the crust was legitimately top notch for the style. Any toppings were just okay, and the variety of slices available for order was disappointing. I would have aimed for a little more red sauce on the plain slice, but I understand the tradeoffs there. All told, this might be one of the better options in Bakery Square, particularly if you're dining in. It's thoughtful. It's well run. At the same time, the food fell short of being legitimately impressive.
