There was a little confusion when we ordered as the gal taking the orders was limited with English but the owner filled us in and our meals came with chips plus you can make it either a Reuben (with sauerkraut) or a Rachel (with coleslaw). The service was fast and you could tell how much the employees appreciate what they do. We will come back again. read more

Everything looked good, so Bill walked me through all of the options, explained where to pay, just good, solid service. I ordered a bowl of chili, a hot pastrami sandwich, and a cherry lemonade. The lemonade was just that right balance of sweet and tart. Fantastic. When the chili came out I started to realize how much of a challenge I had just entered. The portions are huge. HUGE. I could have done aqua-aerobics in the bowl of chili they brought out. Perfection in the blend of sweet and spice - almost as good as my own. Plus they throw in a hearty helping of brisket in there, and I got some in every spoonful. It's like this creation found its way into my digestive system and hugged me from inside. It's soup szn right now and I will be back to try more. Then the pastrami sandwich came out. This is not some namby-pamby take-some-deli-slices-and-throw-it-on-a-dumb-bagel "sandwich." This is a SANDWICH. This is a bagel sandwich that says "you look me in the eye when you eat me, b*tch." I ordered it on a garlic bagel with lettuce, tomato, onion, and deli mustard. They serve it with a knife and fork as a brazen challenge, and I buckled. Never thought a bagel sandwich would do it to me but it did. The pastrami is piled so high that Icarus would look at it and say "Woah buddy, you're asking for trouble." And every bite was delicious. The pastrami is flavorful, not dry or tired like some places. I just left and I'm already harboring wistful memories of the pastrami. There's so many tasty goodies everywhere. I will 100% be recommending it everywhere I go. Got 6 bagels here for my dad & I while he was visiting for a few days and got a breakfast sandwich. The breakfast sandwich was actually decent especially since I reheated it at home. Bacon was good The bagels themselves tasted old and and not fresh. We both had to heat them up just to make them a little soft. By the next day in just 24 hours, the 3 remaining bagels felt like hockey pucks. I threw them out. Wouldn't ever get anything from here again. Waste of money read more

Unfortunately, I see why this place has quite a few negative reviews. The food didn't have a ton of flavor. I got to try their matzoh ball soup and some of their challah bread. Neither was particularly impressive, and I really was hoping for that small quaint Squirrel Hill shop vibe but just didn't really feel it. It was one giant matzoh ball, which was decent, but there were far too many onions in the soup. Broth was still pretty comforting. Vegetables may have been canned, I'm not sure. The challah was also just not my favorite. Seemed quite dry. Okay portion and it comes as a free side with the soup but I just wasn't the biggest fan. We popped into Bagel Factory on a Sunday afternoon, and even after trying just a small portion of the menu, I can tell it will be one of my go-to spots. As I walked in, the last Asiago bagel was being taken out of the case, so I was devastated. But, I noticed the rosemary parmesan bagel nearby, and my heart was less broken. I paired it with the garlic cream cheese, and it was incredible. Every bite was full of strong, savory flavor. My guest went with a standard bagel with lox and added capers and whitefish. I am not a fish lover, but he said it was very fresh. We also split an order of latkes, and they were delicious. Every bite was crispy, and the applesauce paired with it was the perfect sweet balance. Our coffee was made fresh in front of us, and the man working at the register was extremely outgoing and kind. When going on a weekend, you may not be able to get a table because it gets quite busy, but it is absolutely still worth stopping by. read more

I visited this spot for the first time on Friday after signing up for one of those "TooGoToGo" grab bags, and I was absolutely blown away with the top-notch service and products. The premade bag included a variety of bagels + some coconut macaroons. The gentleman at the register was incredibly thoughtful and explained everything flawlessly, made sure to check that I wasn't allergic to coconut (as it was in the grab bag), and made my iced coffee perfectly. After I mentioned that I planned to share the bagels with a friend in a few days, he let me know that their bagels didn't have any preservatives and made sure I knew how to freeze them properly and even offered me extra freezer bags :') The service was so spectacular that I decided to buy a few additional items and wasn't disappointed by a single one!! I ended up bringing the grab bag macaroons to an event that evening and shared them with the bar staff and they absolutely LOVED them too!! Overall, it was an average breakfast, which was disappointing for what seemed like a nice independent bagel shop in a boutique sort of neighborhood. Had seen their signs in the window bragging of 'best corned beef in the city and had been wanting to try for quite awhile but they close early so I hadn't been able to. Ordered a Reuben and was disappointed. It took about 10 minutes to arrive. The sandwich was a sloppy mess. The bread too small for the ample meat. Skimpy on the sauerkraut & dressing. Fell apart when picked up to eat. Some of the corned beef was fatty and inedible. It wasn't horrible but far from the best Reuben I e ever had. I stopped in to get a sandwich and a chocolate babka, which I haven't done in a long while. The Nova Lox sandwich was delicious. The babka was not good at all. I used to buy their babka as hostess gifts because they were so moist and flavorful. Not anymore. These don't have lots of delicious twisty layers. There was hardly any chocolate inside of it. It was incredibly dry and had a smattering of chocolate chips on top. It's the same price as the old one at$ 14, but you can't compare the two. Whoever it was making their Babka a couple of years ago, they knew what they were doing. They need to get that Baker back. read more

Just an outstanding experience every time I visit Pittsburgh and grab some eats from this restaurant. Perplexing to see any negative reviews tbh. I placed a pickup order through an online app for a couple salt bagels and a pastrami sandwich. For the latter, I had no expectations other than tasty pastrami - as you can see from the photo, it was gigantic with the meat overflowing. The bagels were outstanding, mind you I live in Colorado and it's just not the same as Pittsburgh to East Coast bagels. And the assortment of this establishments pastries was incredible - I grabbed a gigantic black and white cookie, just had to have it as a snack for later. Also I wanted to add how my experience as a customer was equally outstanding. The restaurant staff and even the owner (I believe his name is Mike) were very personable, friendly and kind. Had a nice chat with Mike, as I'm a big fan of college hockey and he played Division 1 years ago. Even from that brief chat, you can tell how much pride they all take in providing an excellent product to their customers - from their baked goods to sandwiches and other things. We were at first very excited with the long line and variety of bagels, however once we got our coffee we were met with what we believe was expired milk. The university area is filled with cafes and coffee shops which don't tend to have many *real* options for breakfast. Bagel factory has omelettes and skillets available, in addition to french toast and sandwiches. You also get a bagel for free on the side (at least with the skillets and omelettes you do) which is nice and there's a bit of variety. Unfortunately I only discovered Bagel Factory on my way out of Pittsburgh -- Had I known earlier I would have been in at least once a day during my visit. This place rings of the olde world, to a yesteryear where awful cookie cutter chains weren't the standard. Inside Bagel Factory is a small army of workers preparing food, making coffee, and presumably baking and preparing the many, many offerings aside from just bagels. Laid out on carts and tables are a wide variety of baked treats - from babka, to cookies, muffins, loaves of bread, cupcakes, etc, each more beautiful than the last and all glowing with the aura of homemade goodness. Behind the display counter are various salads including chicken, egg, whitefish. Hand written signs list all kinds of sandwiches, soups (I will DEFINITELY try the matzo ball next time!), and snacks. Staff is so friendly, and the bagels were completely delicious. Outdoor seating was attended by a friendly gentleman who goes out of his way to make sure tables are clean and everyone has a chair to sit in. I am completely charmed. My partner and I wanted to get some take out bagels and so we came here. We ordered a Turkey Rachel on multigrain and a Wild berry bagel with raspberry schmear. Also a seran wrapped cinnamon bun to go. When we got home to eat it, the turkey Rachel was beautiful and delicious! So piled high! The best turkey Rachel I've ever had! The wild berry bagel was okay. I'm not much of a bagel expert, I guess. The texture was chewy and satisfying. The raspberry cream cheese spread was not nearly as flavorful as I expected, a lot lighter in its flavor. Still good.
