It wasn't even crowded. They've messed up orders for me and others before. With this being said, the combo isn't as bad as I thought; just slightly sweeter cream cheese than I'd like. I'd appreciate the staff taking more care with paying attention and/or listening for all orders, esp when it's not crowded. In NYC this type of bagel shop is a dime a dozen. They are everywhere. Since I know these types of places I don't even need to look at the menu. I went with the plain bagel with chicken salad since the chicken salad looked good. The chicken salad was in big chunks and it wasn't overdressed with mayo. The problem was they didn't get my order right and put lettuce instead of tomato on my bagel. I also tried the carrot cake too and it was good but had raisins in it which aren't my favorite. The best part was they did have salt and vinegar blue diamond nuts which are tough to find. In the end the bagel was average and didn't taste fresh. A bagel shop with average bagels is not the best look. The chicken salad was spot on but carrot cake wasn't. I have a hate/love relationship with this place. I like it because they give you the classic Bodega sandwiches at great prices, but the customer service here is just sooo on and off. One day I come here and everything goes smoothly and another day, the workers are in a frenzy telling me to line up here or there. Till this day, I am still very confused on how to order here. I only come here for the bagels and spreads and usually I line up, but sometimes the cooks tell me to go straight to the register since I want bagels. Another time when I went straight to the register, the cashier told me to line up where the cooks were. ??? No idea what's going on with the lack of communication here. Besides that, the bagels and spreads here are actually really good. The bagels are fresh, don't have giant holes in the center, and they are a hearty size. They also have tons of cream cheese spreads. I've tried a good amount of them but usually default to the avocado cilantro cream cheese unless it is brown which means the avocados they used were too ripe or its been sitting out for too long. My second pick would be the basil. Some of their other spreads include: walnut & raisin, strawberry, oreo, blueberry, banana nut, jalapeño asado, salmon, lox, and Chipotle. Wandering around 3rd Avenue on a very cold early midweek morning & looking for a place to have a danish, croissant, bagel or whatever, we were so glad to stumble upon Bagel Express III & it looked like we were not the only ones who were happy it is here. Bagels were fresh, large, not crazy expensive for NYC prices ($1.30 each), lots & LOTS of spreads to "schmear" onto those bagels, freshly squeezed juices, gigunda muffins, & all else that goes with breakfast-all-day food items. Last week I ordered the PB&J spread, they called to see what bagel I wanted. The bagel arrived with PB&J, that simple. Today I ordered the spread, then around ten minutes later a lady called at 12:51pm. For 17 seconds I said "hello?" "Hello?" And I could hear her having a conversation with someone in the background. I am pretty upset with Bagel Express. Alright, first I placed my order at 7:31 am (email to prove), by 8:36 am, I call and they put me on hold for 5-minutes. They lady calls back to let me know they were out of the red velvet slice and if I would like to change it to a marble or chocolate, I choose the marble slice. I told her over the phone, "is my order still there?", she answered, "yes, it is still here." Then I said, "you know what, I will come and get it since you guys are down the street." Please keep in mind, at this point I was hungry and upset (we've order from them every Saturday, what happened?). I get there, the guy gives me my order. I ask what happens to the delivery tip, they state that I need to contact Delivery.com?! I said, "totally, fine." I walk out, then I check the bags, they forgot my two coffees (double whammy), I go back to the shop and ask if I could have my two coffee's. PLEASE KEEP THIS IN MIND - The woman behind the counter had the WORST attitude, that added more frustration to my day. Coming from a person that has experience doing Customer Service, she should not be working behind the counter, this is not the first time she gave me attitude BUT the third time. I can't with this place, there was no given apologies. Just excuses, that the internet was "down" and a handful of attitude. The lady's at the counter have so much attitude that they make customer feel unwelcomed. Their coffee taste like it has gasoline in it, which makes me want to contact the NYC Health Department and they food was so hot that it melted the plastic cheap container. Due to the serious lack of good bagel places in the area, this may be one of the best options. The bagels themselves are actually really really good, and they don't over do it on the cream cheese. They have a lot of options for flavors/types of bagels, I think the total price for two bagels toasted with cream cheese was less than $10, somewhere in the high $7 range. Unfortunately, they do not have flat bagels, if they did, this place would be a perfect option. The workers are nice too! Our hotel is right across the street to Bagel Express III. And because of the fact that we already had our third time in NYC and in this hotel, we had lots of breakfast experiences at BE-III! My Darling prefers pancakes, eggs, bacon. Sometimes he does an experiment and tries eggs pancakes and bacon. Or something completely different: bacon pancakes and eggs.... I´m not that adventure seeker! I take a fruit bowl or a bagel with cream cheese or an egg white omelet or something like that. And though there are certainly difficulties to compound to the "next one"-dude, the breakfasts always are yummy and have fair prices.
