Someone once told me the term "hot bagels" on a store meant they were "authentic" bagels. So when I saw Steve's, I was intrigued. I got six excellent bagels: two onion, two garlic, two egg-everything. They were not huge. They were normal size, perfectly baked and had plenty of seasoning on both sides but not too much. They were delicious. We liked them so much I sent my husband there on a Thursday a few weeks later and he came home with the same types of bagels. They were undercooked. They were overly large and they did not have much seasoning on them. Most of them had nothing on the bottom and a few barely had any seasoning on top. I understand that they use different bakers on different days, so whoever baked the bagels for Wednesday, April 8, 2026? He or she should get a raise and teach the others how to make bagels. So I understand that happens from time to time. Second time in was a not a great experience. I believe some of the staff need to be retrained on safe food handling. There was a young girl who took my order and handled my food. She was cleaning before taking my order and then grabbed my bagel with the same gloves. And while holding my bagel she used her other hand with the glove on and tucked her hair behind her ear. After she put my bagel into the toaster she came back over to the counter and rang me up with still the same gloves on! Then she walked to go back to get my bagel from the toaster. I had it and said could you please change your gloves you just handled cash! I'm not one to make a confrontation that is why I didn't not say anything the first time around as she handle it. Then she changed her gloves and continued to pull up her pants and play with her shirt. Unfortunately, I took my food and just threw it out afterwards. But I think this needed to be addressed in a review so everyone can understand the importance of food safety. As a new customer this was not a good impression to make. The business owner/managers need to pay better attention to this. I work in the food industry and as a manager I would call it out as soon as I seen an employee doing that and retrained.
