I attended a two-day dog behavior seminar at BaDDogs and it was fantastic!

We had adopted a dog from the pound that repeatedly tried to attack our larger dog and we really wanted to get a professional opinion to see if we could make it work for our family. Barbara answered my call on a Sunday and was able to see us Monday and asked that we keep the dogs apart until then. Great first interaction! When Barbara came she spent a few minutes with each animal and asked about the interactions in detail. There was a lot of typing. While there, the dogs fought right nearby my 4 year old and my husband was bitten and bleeding in the process. She was glad "no one got hurt". At the end of a lot of the sessions she let us know that we could get through it with some very expensive training lessons for both dogs. That was it. The next day, I was charged $100 more than I heard her say the cost would be (I had even repeated back to her the cost and she told me what it would include). I feel taken advantage of and that the true value of her visit wasn't provided. I wanted an opinion on if this was good for our family (which given the fight) it was not. I will not put my family in harms way like that! And she didn't listen when I gave her the price back to her. Maybe she is better in other situations. But I am left feeling like the 2 hour onsite evaluation was just a very expensive way to eventually pay her more money. Very sad given our desperation at the time. read more

It's been almost a month since I had an in-home consultation and so far so good! In just one session we had a plan and realistic goals. Barbara asked me detailed questions that led to very insightful recommendations. We've been practicing the exercises she recommended and I've already seen a big improvement in my dog's impulse control. I called Barbara because my 2-year-old dog began displaying behavioral problems such as biting other dogs, growling and barking at strangers, randomly attacking our cat, etc. Barbara came to my house, spent 2.5 hours taking a very thorough history then provided a detailed explanation of what she thought was going on. She cited recent dog behavior literature references to support her ideas. She helped me to understand my dog's thought process and perspective, and I could see why my methods weren't working. All in all I found Barbara to be extremely reasonable, intelligent and knowledgable. When we concluded she provided me with pages of information and names of helpful books to read. She then gave me the option to go it alone or continue using her for training. She didn't do a "hard sell", which I appreciated. I am very surprised to hear the negative Yelp reviews. I read them and they do not sound remotely similar to the woman that came to my house. read more

Barbara is special and has the unique ability to know exactly what your dogs needs are. She even has this special intuition that comes into play when you need to understand the specific behavior that your dog is exhibiting. There are a lot of trainers out there but not with these special abilities. 5 stars all the way! read more

If I could rate BArbara a 0, I would. She repeatedly cancelled appointments after I had taken time off work to accommodate the lessons. For $1000 for 2 lessons we accomplished nothing except having the dog wait for a great when it was placed on my knee. She claims we didn't get the items she suggested which we did when she suggested them. The dog was a stray and we were hoping to be able to keep him but because of his behavior we were unable to. I completely disagree with the other reviewers. The trainers methods and system saved me and saved our dog! Our golden retriever had horrible guarding issues and had seriously attacked me several times. I still bear many scars from canine punctures and claw marks. Most people would've given up this dog or put her to sleep, but I knew deep inside there was a great dog there. The trainer came into our home and worked to re-train us how to work with our golden to make her happy by using training that making her think, problem-solve, and bring us her highly-coveted items to trade for a treat. After the training was completed I was no longer fearful of my own dog and we had 3 more wonderful years with her before we had to put her to sleep from complications due to cancer. i think my lucky stars that I found BADDogs Inc and only wish I'd found them earlier! read more

I consulted barbara for a problem with my dog that I later found out was a resource guarding issue. She was baking and biting any dog, including our own dogs, that her came near her toys. Barbara told me that this was nothing and that it was perfectly normal behavior. She said that she was "just protecting Her stuff". My first instinct was Huh???It didn't feel right and my questions regarding this seemed to Annoy her. Anyway the problem escalated and my dog began guarding other things-the couch, etc and I contacted another trainer. I found that resource guarding is a problem that has to be managed from the get go and because we did nothing it became much much bigger. She is doing great now but it was not a quick fix. I attended class with my 2 Bulldogs one of which was a rescue. The class and Barbara's methods were extremely helpful in training me to train both of my dogs. I continue to use her positive reward training with my fosters. I'm actually considering going back for a refresher course. The drive all the way from the OC was definitely worth it! read more

Barbara has been our trainer for my three dogs for the last 8 years. She has inspired myself and yes my 3 dogs to work closer together to maintain a calmer more peaceful household. Barbara has been an amazing trainer for years! Our Vizsla, Bella, started with her at 9 weeks old, and using positive training had her in a sit in just a few sessions. We first met Barbara four years ago when our daughter and then 18 month old granddaughter moved in with us. Our then seven year old lab Abby had never been socialized with young children and a nip in the face of our granddaughter caused enough alarm that we considered re-homing Abby or worse. It was a very minor cut but we can't have kids getting bitten... I did some research online looking for alternatives and eventually found Barbara and BADDogs Inc.. After an initial telephone conversation we decided it would be well worth the cost (we loved Abby) to give some "rehab" training a try in our home. I'll never forget, Barbara came in, sat on the floor and started giving Abby treats in a myriad of different ways: open hand, closed hand, etc. and each one after a few minutes was designed to get Abby to respond differently to get her treat. Then came the "zen" training where a treat was laid in front of Abby and if she lunged for it, it was taken - only if she could control her instinct to lunge for the treat would Abby in fact get the treat. Barbara explained to us while doing this that Abby was terrified of our granddaughter - here is this adult dog who has always had teenagers and above around her who suddenly has this little human jumping in her face - she explained that we needed to protect Abby from this young stranger and make her feel safe. She advised us to keep Abby's crate out again (it had been in the garage for years) as a "safe haven" for her to escape to. She also let us know that if a dog that size wanted to hurt a little girl there would be a hospital trip involved at a minimum. Barbara taught us how to read Abby's signs of discomfort, she taught us to "protect" Abby from the little one and to control their interaction. She also taught us how to teach Abby impulse control, ie. the impulse to nip at an irritant...it's hard to picture that little princess as an irritant but to a dog, well... In one couple of hour meeting we saved our beloved dog's life! There was never even close to another incident and our granddaughter who still lives with us has always been comfortable around dogs! We lost Abby earlier this year at age eleven. We knew it was coming and had researched dog breeds because we can't imagine living without a dog. We wanted an action plan in place when the time came. Knowing the end was near I called Barbara a couple of months before Abby's passing. My wife and I had narrowed our thoughts down to two breeds to be our next dog and after about a fifteen minute question and answer phone call she helped us decide on a Rhodesian Ridgeback to be a great hiking/camping/outdoor companion. She further gave me some valuable resources along with a couple of good references to find good/reputable breeders (no question Abby was a puppy mill baby in my mind and that wasn't going to happen again either). We picked up our new baby RR in early April and started him in Barbara's "puppy club" class the following week. I've been told labs are hard to raise but I have to say Abby was an easy puppy compared to our little RR, he brought with him a whole new set of challenges and Barbara has guided him and more importantly us through them. We now have a four month old large puppy who still has some "puppy" in him but he's extremely manageable and very well behaved for a puppy of his age. He has finished his STAR Puppy training and we are now slowly working towards CGC - in every class Barbara gives us some pearls and I know that we will have one of those dogs that everyone wishes their dog could be... read more

Barbara does know her stuff. The problem was me. I did not work with my dog as I should have. Also where I live on a ranch made it really hard to implement some of her techniques. But she has the patience of a saint and a kind heart. read more

I have used Barbara several times over the last years! She was the only one that helped me with one of my dogs that was Rottie/mastif. He was fearful of strangers. She taught me to walk him with confidence and taught him commands! He was 150 pounds and used to drag me! He also would growl at people walking by. I was able to walk him on command and use hand signals. It was a wonderful experience for myself and my dog! She also helped us with 2 shepherds who went crazy when they saw the lease! Getting out the door was impossible! All 3 of those dogs are now in doggie paradise as we lost them to old age and 1 to cancer! We now have Boxers and she helped us with those 2 love bugs! We started Puppy class with Barbara when our Golden was 9 weeks old. Best thing we ever did! Barbara is wonderful, always positive and kind. We completed Puppy class and have moved on to the next level. He is currently working on getting his B.A.. We drive over an hour each way, just because Barbara is so great! Very worth the drive!! I have worked with Barbara Davis and the BADDOGS staff with several dogs -- all adopted and/or rescues with various issues. (Dog/dog aggression, destructive behavior, ADD.) I've attended several types of classes -- from basic obedience to clicker training and rally, and had in-home consultations. The trainers are very good. I have a lot of experience with dogs and have worked with a lot of other dog trainers, mostly in L.A. Also, I have horses and have worked with a lot of behavior oriented horse people. Barbara and BADDOGS are really up to snuff. From reading the other reviews, it looks to me like some of the reviewers are coming from the alpha dog nonsense recently popularized on television. That's a shame because to find someone with BADDOGS level of education in the Inland Empire is a real treat. read more

Today, he's a well behaved delightful companion who loves learning new commands. We learned how to work with him to get the behaviors we want and teach him new behaviors. We learned the skills needed to know what and how positive training works and to apply these skills to future training needs. Barbara is great at teaching us the best way to train our dogs. She also knows the correct way to fix certain compulsive behaviors, as we experienced with our Vizsla. She is also great at conflict management as she showed us how to deal with and resolve issues we had with 2 of our Basenjis. Upon first impression, what was in writing on the website about this dog training program seemed very good. I took the dog trainer's training program offered and found out what was written was far from what I witnessed. I paid for two training programs up ($1200 each) front because of a discount. After finding that the program did not meet my expectations and abilities I decided to gracefully part ways. I only finished about half of first program and let them know this was not for me. My immediate feedback was not concern or help but that my 2nd fee of $1200 of a course that I had not taken, would not be refundable. All during the course different things made me feel uncomfortable and the main trainer, Barbara's arrogance, was just more than I could take. I have moved on and no am going to have to pursue this in small claims. I am writing this only to prevent other from making the same mistake I made and to warn them that all may not be what it seems here and the training knowledge may not be supportable in a real environment. There were some good ideas that I could have gotten out of a book or video, which I did because I had to buy a ton of them as part of this program which was not even covered under the $2400 I paid. BUYER BEWARE. Please research other training programs and compare. I should have gone with my first instinct but we all learn the hard way. read more

Ok, So I got a email from this site saying Barbara ( owner of baddogs inc) posted comment from my previous post ,something about whatever not being in her contract.. 1. Her contract is technically not even valid come to find out as the organizations she claims to be a part of AABP & APDT, both state she must have their logos on contract, she does not. these 2 organizations pride themselves in providing the utmost professionalism, ethical, ,honest and humane ( to all animals and their owners)..I can tell you from personal experience, which my husband can and will attest to in court that she is non of these things. If you would like a trainer that shorts you on time, lies to your face, makes up charges along the way, fails to provide proof of charges, then hire her. Her contract should have pricing on it, it does not. also it does not say how she is going to come to your home, charge you $200 for a 90 min session, which is supposed to be assessing your dog (she told me she got what she needed watching our dog lay on the floor with a leash on)..we had a severe situation with dog being aggressive with our baby...she assured us she could help. I let her know please no basics, I have lots of training experience, just not with this. She showed up for first visit with dog treats my dog did not like and started doing basic recall( which is like the very first thing to do on a "basic training form, I KNEW THI l, she was here 30 of the 90 min we were supposed to have totally lying as to the reason she left early, she later claimed the kids were disrupting..my kids were in another room with their dad. I did not want her back for obvious reasons. I paid her $600 and she refused to return any of it...after I told her and the recue who referred her to us she said she would refund like $140...I said no way. She never once did what she was supposed to do, lied so horribly to the rescue about me and my family (which they obviously did not believe since they dropped her as a referral for training, yay)..she started adding on charges that had no validation once she found I was filing for mediation, which I did file but have not heard anything so I will do again. I have texts from her where I can easily prove she is a liar, wish you guys could see all the emails back and forth....this woman is crazy,truly. She is out for your money, that's it. I told her if she would have acted like a professional business woman and refunded our unused time, I would let it go. But no she would not do that an in hind site I am glad. I plan on filing grievances against her with the AABP & APDT as well as suing for all monies since she did not even assess our dog at $200 consult, then shorted us 45 min on very fist session. That is what we got hiring her. This all happened Jan 2013, my son was diagnosed with Autism shortly after which is why I have not had the time. But since she tried to reply to my post, of course defending herself, I will make the time . This woman has no business dealing with the public. She is horrendous. PLease don't let her fool you too...I am now out $700 as the result of her and am furious..I am so happy she was dropped by a wonderful great rescue, just trying to help you all. Most trainers do not charge anywhere close to this..the owner a"t It's a dogs world" actually does free assessments if you take them there and only like $50 for them to come and by the way..those are some really great people, truly helped many dogs of mine!! read more

Our new rescue puppy was enrolled with Barbara in the puppy socialization class. Throughout our time, both we and our puppy were trained in appropriate behavior! Unlike some other early training classes, our puppies are encouraged to not only learn behavioral modification but to learn to play and interact positively with other dogs and other people, as well. Barbara's techniques are all "positive", which has resulted in a very calm, loving, fun and, usually, polite adolescent dog. Our dog stands out amongst most others with how 'chill' she is around other dogs - even walking around the neighborhood with strange and even, sometimes, aggressive other dogs. Barbara has lists of resources which have helped us in all areas, from extended training to nutrition and health. As a Retired Chief of Animal Services I can tell you I have seen many dogs that needed training. This company stepped up to the plate to help train and make a lot of those dogs more adoptable. Because of this company many animals have found forever homes. I have also seen this company train many people to become better animal owners. Barbara has excellent communication and walked us through behavior issues with our first dog Roxy. Roxy was neglected and had huge separation issues including eating blinds and crown molding in our brand new home. Barbara came to our home to see the issues first hand. She is always prompt and lays training out in a way that can be understood to a non-dog person as this was my first time owning a dog. She walked with us throughout the neighborhood to overcome basic training issues and came to our house several times in order to help us learn training techniques for Roxy. We took her basic dog training class which was just what we needed. With a week to practice the new training methods we were able to be successful with her basic training needs. The recall class is awesome and something every dog owner needs. In order to get your dog to return to you consistently this class moves through step by step and we were successful with this recall skill by the end of the class. Barbara was called on to work with my foster english bulldog who has fear aggression issues and some bizarre behaviors. He would attack our feet when coming in from outside. He would attack again when opening a closed door he was sitting behind. Never mean aggression, fear based. In only one session she had my silly, scared boy acting like a normal dog when coming in and out of our slider and walking in closed doors. He also was very fearful of strangers in the home. She pulled him out his shell quickly and easily! She has been very helpful to our rescue when working with some more of our troubled dogs. From tips on how to do meet and greets to giving us great mind stimulating games to play with our dogs in need of homes- she has been a real help to rescue. She has a Sunday morning class that has benefited several of our dogs that were hard to place. It truly made a big difference for each of them. Her techniques are positive reinforcement based and really bring out the best in dogs. She has so many tricks and tips its amazing. She knows her dogs and loves them too.
