This is some of the best BBQ I have ever had. I used to live in the south where BBQ was plentiful (some good, some not so good). I ordered the chicken and the pork and both were tasty without any sauce and they were cooked perfectly. The sauces did add some fun flavor - I liked the two sweet sauces and the golden sauce. The fries were crispy and flavorful. If they added sweet tea and some cornbread mash to the menu I would want to move in upstairs!! read more

Chopped brisket sandwhich was delicious! Restaraunt was tightly packed, crowded, and loud. Chef was an asshole as he couldn't even respond to a compliment and when told jokingly we were bummed we didn't see his prime rib special, stormed off and said "well it's on the board". Working in the area. Yelp had a few reviews all three were great. I figured give it a shot i was not disappointed. And i have a lot of experience smoking meats. My specialty is ribs and this place is as good as mine.(maybe better) Definitely worth the drive. Had the three meat combo pulled pork sliced brisket and ribs it came with two sides. Can honestly say I have never had a bad meal at Bad Bones BBQ! Judges Plate, smoked Prime Rib, wings or Mac n' Cheese - it's all delicious! Had the wings tonight, they are HUGE! They were also perfectly smoked and then just the right amount of crispy skin from being fried, but nice and moist on the inside! Had a mix of the house sauces as well as having some tossed in Bayou sauce, can't say a bad thing about them! My wife had a nice slab of Prime Rib tonight, she said it was delicious! My husband and I would give Bad Bones a zero if it were possible. As we were eating our dry , bland brisket and lobster Mac and Cheese ( which might have been better is it were Kraft) I noticed all the work was done with only one gloved had. The ungloved hand was used to eat the scraps. There was no hand washing no sanitation at all. I mentioned it to the girl at the counter and she seemed unphased by it. My husband and I had paid $17 each for smoked brisket. Imagine our surprise when were left to see a wood pallet with a tarp item on it leaning on the smoker... it would melt if the smoker had been used so we question how fresh the meat was. We were 15 minutes away when we were struck by stomach cramps, and more unpleasantries. For 3 hours we both had been violently ill. I called to let them know our experience. This call was met with a "I'm sorry your experience wasn't good, I hope you feel better and Have a Merry Christmas ". REALLY? We were lured in by the delicious smells coming from their smoker as we were driving down highway 51. Their menu is located on a board right inside the door. I chose the pulled pork with fries. The pork was tender and smokey and the fries were crispy. My companion orders the pulled pork with slaw and it came with a mountain of food between the bun. He loved the Carolina sauce and I had the Memphis sauce. The restaurant is located on a lake and there is a deck out back overlooking the lake. read more

Bad Bones BBQ.... Definitely Bad. I called in an order of 2 pizzas and 2 orders of wings. They gave me a time estimate of 45 minutes. I live 2 towns over and left at the 30 minute mark. I got there and stood in line for 15 minutes before I was even waited on. Then, I got to listen to the head cook and the cashier bitch and bicker for 10 minutes before anyone even helped me. I gave them the name of my order and she tells me "Oh, they're just putting it in." I go "well that's an issue seeing as I called over an hour ago, and was given a time estimate." She throws some sass at me to which I walk out before I lose my stuff. I leave my Fiancé inside to deal with it. About 10 minutes goes by and I go back inside and she hasn't even helped my Fiancé yet! We walk out, 3 other couples walk out. And I'm sure this isn't a surprise. read more

Best BBQ in the north woods hands down. I'm counting down the days until this spot gets featured on a food network special. Definitely not your typical supper club, but this spot won as our favorite family dinner on our recent week long vacation in Boulder Junction. They outgrew their downtown Minocqua location and have moved to a more scenic spot just off of Little Muskie Lake. Their traditional dishes- ribs, brisket, pulled pork are to die for. But don't pass up the non-traditional- Lobster Mac and Cheese, or the Brisket Bomber- chopped brisket with giardiniera. Everything is smoked daily and the smell emenating from the shop will make your mouth water. Be sure to try every single BBQ sauce- the Pitmaster and the Golden are my favs. Great spot, owned by great people, with fantastic service. I have a cabin up north, and go every time here when we go up north. The location is right off the road easy to get to and the inside is small but very nice and a out door seating erea. I get the brisket it is very good all sauces are good the Golden is my favorite. read more

Bab Bones is a unique spin on dinning. The change of pace was interesting. You walk in and see a big menu board on the left and place your order with the cashier lady as your order ziplines over to the kitchen for Aaron and his side kicks to make it for you. I'll admit they were busy and probably under staffed but the wait was worth it. I had the grinder which was a giant sausage patty log covered in marinara and mozz cheese. My wife and son and the chopped chicken sandwich which was supper yummy I was happy most of my sons chicken fell out so I could steal it. The inside seat is a little cramped but if it is nice outside there is seating outside or you can take it to go. The BBQ sauce selection was great with I think 5 to 6 different sauces to try out. I started with Memphis but resorted back to Kansas because it reminded me of Sweet Baby Rays. There is a large variety of specialty soda and Wisconsin micro breweries in a bottle. We look forward to the next trip up north to try it out. As we were leaving we noticed Aaron pulling more meat out of his smoke house out front to thank him for our visit. read more

Great BBQ/awesome pizza, slooooow service. I ordered for pickup. The lines are "out the door" because those plating and serving are slow as molasses and there was just one worker behind the register. Definitely no urgency to get to the next customer. No protocol for pickup vs. ordering on the spot. Family of 5 ordering in front of me and single pickup in front of them. This place is great. Their barbecue is excellent. Oak wood smoked brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and the best prime rib in the Northwoods in my opinion. The prime rib is smoked, but you don't get an overwhelming smoke flavor, it is just excellent slow roasted prime rib. I have been searching for a great prime rib in the Northwoods and this is finally it. I have going here since they first opened in Minocqua. Now that they moved, they have a lot more tables. I have had barbecue many places including a quite a few places in the south and this is as good as the best down there. It is so good that when I had visitors in the middle of winter during a snowstorm, I drove the 70 minutes round trip to pick up ribs and brisket for my guests. There were travel warnings that night while I was making the trip, but I would not go anywhere else for ribs Shaun the pit master is very particular about his food. It will not leave the counter until it meets his standards. I can't recommend this place enough. Oh and he finally has unsweetened Iced Tea for us northerners who can't have the sugar. read more

Some of the best BBQ I have ever had. Also hear wins and the sides are all delicious. Simply great food at a reasonable price. Customer service is just barely acceptable. You order as you walk in without much of an opportunity to look over the menu. It can get really backed up trying to get in the door. Dining room is small and hot, as they cook right in the same room. Would recommend considering ordering ahead and taking out. My family and I have gone to Bad Bones since it first opened in Minocqua. We always came back because the pulled pork is good and the people were friendly. However, on our last visit, the owner made a point of chastising one of his employees as she was asking us how our dinner was. This was moments after he yelled at another employee. The tension in the air was palpable and it made us feel uncomfortable. There are many restaurants in the Northwoods that have good food AND friendly owners. A interesting restaurant to be sure. The place itself is so poorly designed, interior-wise, with only 6 tables to accommodate around 15 people. The kitchen is very poorly laid out and is constantly noisy. Another thing that struck me was how poorly taken care of the place was. I sat at a table right beside a window, and not only was my table full of crumbs and leftover bits of food, but the window sill was littered with dead bugs, more food, and dust. One more problem I had was the staff. They seemed bothered to cook, or wait on customers. Heck, when I was ordering, a waitress had an earbud in. The saving grace here though, is the food, and that is, after all, what you're paying for. The menu is filled with many delicious-sounding dishes, many of which, I didn't have the chance to try. What I was able to eat though, was excellent. Even with the food being as good as it was. I don't think I'll ever go out of my way to come here again. read more
