Okay, first of all. If you are ever lucky enough to find yourself sitting in Bad Bobs, make sure to be served by Tiageo, he is AWESOME and possibly the best and most accommodating waiter I have encountered in Dublin City, (which, contrary to some people, is actually saying something.)
Although we were initially ignored for a while by the bar staff (and the security guys were rather rude and obnoxious) when we went in at 6pm, once we managed to hail service things dramatically improved.
I ordered a starter of their Louisiana spicy wings, the portion, though they admitted was unusually large, was huge. Absolutely huge. 23 wings! What on earth?! And I ate every. single. one. These were just so so good. My friend, who hates chicken, ordered the potato skins and enjoyed them so much that I didn't even get a nibble, he was grinning from ear to ear from the first bite.
Tiageo, paying attention to our actual preferences of food had suggested the classic with Bacon and Cheese for my friend- who isn't a terribly adventurous eater- and when I finally settled on the Crispy Cajun, he suggested I get it with a chicken breast instead of the beef. This was before I gorged on 23 wings, but my god, was that burger good. Our actual meal ended up being mostly silent, occasionally spliced with the odd 'mmmmm' or explicating to each other how good the food was. The only thing I would suggest to avoid are the sweet potato fries, after everything else being so good, these were a bit like a slap in the face, 4 thick, soggy, tasteless, watery, depressing as hell lukewarm wedges of nothingness. Somehow they managed to be both burnt and soggy at the same time (maybe mircowaved? I hope not!)
I took a bit of one and just abandoned them.
At the end of the meal, Tiageo, who we were now chatting away with like he was a good friend from years ago (charismatic man), was horrified to see I had left them and apologised and told me I should have sent them back. We weren't charged for them and we got a discount on one round of drinks, which was amazingly decent of the staff!
Besides the soggy sweet potatoes and a shoddy solo guitarist (very very bad singer), the entire experience was a delight and I'm actually heading back tomorrow. read more
