I celebrated my birthday here. The coach was very nice and helpful. We had a lot of fun. Bad Axe accepts walk ins as well as bookings. We did 60 minutes with knives, hatchet, and full axe. It was $36.98 per person for that time. The knives were so dull that I got the hilt to stick in the boards, but not the blades. I went here with a biggish group with no prior experience and it was some of the most fun I've ever had! We were greeted at the door by our instructor which I enjoyed. He broke the ice with a few jokes and we signed a waiver which I expected with the activity we were about to partake in. Our instructor was very knowledgeable about his craft. As he explained the techniques we could use he also watched us carefully so he could give us tips afterwards on how to correct our throw and hit the target. Tried this activity for the first time. Walked in with a group of three and were the only ones in the place the entire time. The attendant was polite and helpful getting us started and the axe throwing was very fun once we got the hang of it. However, despite there being nobody else in the location and six or eight additional open targets for use, we were given a firm *no* when we asked if we could each have our own spot and were instead made to share two targets between the three of us. This was disappointing as it always left someone sitting on the sidelines despite the fact that we all paid for a full session. Also disappointing was the fact that the attendant sat at the table directly next to us and spent nearly the whole time critiquing us. While we appreciated him watching our first throws, orienting us, and giving some advice, his constant presence and commentary made everyone feel very uncomfortable and took some of the fun out of it. He also was very overt about expecting a tip, which was poor form. Will try again in hopes of a more relaxed atmosphere and ability for everyone who pays admission to receive a full session. read more
