Wow, this place is great in Atlanta, GA but this IN location needs to do a better job communicating with their customer service office and advertise when walk ins aren't available. I brought a group of 5 to downtown Indy from our hotel about 20 minutes out. I called ahead to confirm pricing and availability which they said was good to go for walk ins because we were not allowed to book a group smaller than 8 for a reservation. Once we arrived, and after we had already spent time filling out the waiver - we were told that they were not taking walk ins and that we would be unable to throw because they had several lanes that were "under maintenance". This is unacceptable and a horrible example of poor communication and facilities maintenance/coordination. I'll be thinking twice before booking a large group at a Bad Axe facility. read more

We had so much fun on our company teambuilding day! I was a little nervous because I'm not athletic at all, but our coach Jesse did an awesome job helping us practice and get the hang of throwing. I could even do some of the trick shots by the end! The pace and the games were just right for our group and everyone had a lot of fun. If you want an alternative to other games like bowling, this is your spot. We should have brought our own snacks, but their beer and wine selection is good for this kind of outing. Our company is very competitive so we took the games pretty seriously (our team won, if anyone was interested). Axe throwing scared me. I'll admit it, I was terrified to actually go. That being said, our coaches were fantastic and put me at ease almost immediately! Music, games, atmosphere all on point. The people who work here know what they are doing and make it such a fun, memorable experience. If you are looking for something new to try in Indy, this is the place to go. What could be better for stress relief and general fun than throwing heavy sharp dangerous things at a wall! I never knew I'd love this. The axe instructors were fun and provided great instruction. I went from axes flying everywhere except the target to sticking the axe in the target every time. They guided us in several games to bring a little competitive edge. More important facts: - Posters seemed to indicate there are leagues - They are only open during scheduled walk-in times and when they have groups scheduled! Definitely plan in advance. - They don't provide food or drink, but allow you to bring in outside food (at least for groups) - I only docked a star because we were in the back room and it had a bit of a smell. I didn't expect a place where we were throwing axes to be immaculate, but closer to the bathroom, bathroom smells spilled over into the axe throwing area. Not a deal breaker, but probably the one major place for improvement...it wasn't hugely bad...just minor... - It's on the 2nd floor (I took the stairs but there's an elevator) - You have to sign a waiver...you're throwing axes. It's dangerous. Duh. :) Basically just go! the fun outweighs any negative! I'll be back....and I'll likely even adjust my review up to five stars! Fun. Fun. Fun. read more

BIG UPDATE: they no longer allow you to bring in your own drinks since they got their liquor license. Great that they got it but it was not clear on the email we received so we all brought our own stuff and had to stash it in their staff room. They were super accommodating though and it didn't ruin the night at all. We had a blast! Grant, our coach was amazing! Great sense of humor and coached us through everything and made sure we were safe while throwing sharp objects at a piece of wood. We booked it for an event and I highly recommend doing that. What a wild and fun place! I went with a group of 17 for a work event and I think it's safe to say everyone enjoyed it. It's not just something unique, it's legit fun! Our Coach (Anthony) taught us how to be safe, how to throw, and kept things moving by introducing new games as we went along. It's trickier to get the axes to stick than I thought it would be, but it feels great when you connect! So, last night 9/28 apart of my meetup group I'm in I decided to go. Which, as the Saturday day was getting later I almost stayed at home. Anyways, the Bad Axe is in the heart of downtown Indy near Tiki Bob's location, walking in I went upstairs where my group was located, I noticed everyone throwing axes, yelling, cheering, music in the background. It was my first time doing anything like that before, I was nervous as heck trying to make it to the next room. I was thinking please don't throw an axe at me(me overthinking). When, I finally went to room on the 2nd floor where my group was Bad Axe leader Grant Miller informed me I had to read the waiver then sign it. It felt dangerous yet fun at the same time throwing axes. Since, it was my very first time doing throwing axes I had a tutorial lesson, and throwing axes isn't easy at least for me it's not. You have to stand a certain way, hold the axe a certain way then throw it. When I was slowly getting the hang of it I was throwing axes on the actual board. Bad Axes does offer alcoholic beverages, and non alcoholic beverages. I didn't have pictures of me throwing axes, but for the most part I didn't do too bad. The Bad Axe leader Grant had us doing games where we would compete against each other. Overall, a great experience, experienced something different, and out of my comfort zone.
