Super friendly staff! Bit pricey for one person who isn't a resident but other than that no complaints.

It is also home to the Avon HS Cross Country team. It the front they have a full basketball court that is pretty decent, a sand volleyball court, a gazebo, and 2 covered shelters that you can reserve. Each shelter has grills and picnic tables. There are also picnic tables scattered around the area, an open field that is well maintained, and a small lake. The lakes are rumored to be stocked, but I did not see anyone fishing. You will also find a very nice playground up there that has a jungle gym for small kids and one for bigger kids. The ground is covered with shredded tires. The playground also has a cargo net to climb, tire swings and regular swings. if you venture to the other part of the park in the back that is where you will find over 5 miles of paved trails, a splash pad, an outdoor fitness area, a reception hall, an small amphitheater, another lake with a fountain, 2 more covered shelters with picnic tables and grills, restroom facilities and another playground. The playground is very nice and is lined with a rubbery surface and has equipment including swings, monkey bars and other stuff that looked like it was purchased from Ikea. This is an awesome park and a great part of the Avon community. They have tons to do and can keep an entire family busy for hours. This place is very scenic and has some picturesque bridges and landscape. It is also home to the historic 1876 Whipple Iron Truss.

There's a basketball court and volleyball nearby. Plenty of shelters to plan a bbq or just chill. We came here to this park for a program that was at the pavilion center and the center and it's surrounding area was nice too. There's even a splash park and trails nearby. If we ever drive 40 mins from the center of the city again I'd def come back here

Usually it was for their own use even though they had time on the schedule set aside for lifeguard use, they never thought twice about disrupting patrons who came during the scheduled lap swim time. When I complained, the person I spoke to told me to come at a different time. When I said I have a job and responsibilities that keep me on a tight schedule, I was told the lifeguards can't always make it during their scheduled time. I explained that seems unreasonable to me since I'm trying to adhere to the schedule they published and I don't think it's appropriate to alter that schedule without notice especially when we're in the middle of a workout. The person I spoke to said I was being unreasonable. I left and have never gone back.

The facility itself is relatively new (I heard some people in the gym talking about having been going there for 20 years)! The gym maintains their gym equipment. In addition, they maintain the grounds really well. Someone is always patrolling the parking lot, Splash Island and cleaning the indoor areas. They offer various classes, including fitness and summer classes for the kids!!! Some other amenities I didn't expect -- lap swimming pool (indoor and outdoor), a lazy River and full free weight squat and bench racks. All staff are incredibly helpful and this place does a nice job training. It employs all ages and they host an annual "Getting Ready"-type training in the summer that prepares the lifeguard staff before opening. They're also fairly active on Facebook and good about communicating closings/delays. A great high school or college job for students. It's worth the price too! Any commercial gym membership costs the same for residents to just be a member here!

Ellis Park - also at the creek, in a secluded area so nobody can walk up on us.

On a recent visit, I found myself needing some down time and fresh air. I stopped by Ellis Park, a key park in Danville, Indiana and a park where I used to spend quite a bit of time in my young adult years. Ellis Park is directly off U.S. 36 right as you're getting into the main strip of Danville. It's a 49-acre park with a history tracing back to 1913. At that time, the 49 acres were set aside to protect the wells that provided Danville's water. In 1971, the park was renamed for longtime park superintendent Harve Ellis. Ellis Park is along the White Lick Creek. It's perhaps most known for its historical swinging bridge, however, it has quite a few amenities - shelters, playgrounds, sports fields, restrooms, Gill Family Aquatic Center, an amphitheater, and a "train station" that also can host meetings/events. Ellis Park is a rather nice weaving together of history with quite a few contemporary upgrades. It's incredibly wooded and it's super easy to take some time and just chill out here. The park is also adjacent to the nearby Blanton House Conference and Retreat Center. I definitely love Ellis Park, though every time I visit I can't help but feel like I wish it could be spruced up even more. It's really a centerpiece for Danville and it's definitely well utilized. I've always seen quite a few people here whenever I visit, however, it definitely does still have a bit of an aged feeling. That said, it's my favorite park in Danville and it has been a nice place to decompress during my family's recent challenges.

The playground is nice and pretty spread out. The equipment is not the newest, but it is well maintained There is a small jungle gym (for younger kids) with a small rock climbing wall and slide. Also in that area you will find a a carriage shaped monkey bar, a merry go round, two banks of traditional swings and some rocking vehicles and animals. Right next to that area is a bigger jungles gym for older kids (it did not intimidate my 2 year old though). It has a barn yard them and has a bunch of slides and bridges and stairs. In that area you will also find a maze, sit and spins, a bank of traditional settings and rocking animals. The shelter, which can be rented, is right by the larger kid play area and has picnic tables under it and a grill right outside of it. The shelter also has a wood over inside of it. It is a very nice shelter. There are 8 very nice pickle ball courts here. Four on each side, divided by a semi-covered sitting/waiting/spectating area. The courts were very busy. The park is home to 4 lighted baseball fields. The fields are very nice and they were having some little league girls games going on while I was there. Good luck finding a parking spot when they have baseball or softball going on. There were a good amount of spots near the playground area though. Even though they are not officially part of the park, there a some tennis courts, that belong to Plainfield Community Middle School, which borders the backside of the park. They were open while I was there and are pretty well maintained. This park has pockets of green space that can be used to toss a ball, have a picnic, run around, or have a football/soccer game. And as an added bonus, even though the park does not have a designated trail, it does have some pretty good paved paths that can be put together to get a decent walk or run in. This is not your newest park, but it is a very good traditional park with a lot of amenities. It is a solid park that the little ones will enjoy for hours.
