i am scared of bugs & animals. there's so much room to walk here depending on which trail you pick. lots of cyclists and people taking pictures in the water. i wish there was better and more signage up as this park is pretty big. nothing indicates how far you've distanced into woods or which path you're on. there's another walking trail (by the pictured buildings) but i do feel it's too many people in that area during covid and more chance to get hit by rollers. i would love it if they installed call buttons for safety as you can walk several miles here and you're in the middle of nowhere. i love how scenic it is bridges, natural brush, & creeks. dog friendly. just like being out anywhere if you're apart of a vulnerable group be careful going alone , late etc

The Avon Park Ice Rink in Washington Township Park was a blast last night. We went to the Bumper Cars and Brew - 21 Plus Event. The tickets included one draft beer, 2 hrs. of Bumper Cars and a cupcake as we left. You could buy additional beers if wanted. Hubby had two Sun King Oktoberfest while I had Hot Chocolate and two chocolate chip cookies right from the oven. It was difficult at first to know where to check in but after walking around for a couple minutes it was clear. The lines were long for the Bumper Cars but it moved quickly. We had the opportunity to go several times throughout the night. The food truck, A Small Town Throw Down, folks were super friendly. They offered food and hot chocolate plus more. I posted the hours but I didn't see what days they have ice skating vs. Bumper Cars. You'll need to call. The ice rink is located on the basketball courts for those of you familiar with the park. Washington Township Park is a gorgeous park, beautiful scenery with many recreational opportunities. The park is 160 acres plus a preserved wooded area and a great deal of open green space. This park has so many remarkable amenities. There is a 24 foot Gazebo, two playgrounds, a sand volleyball court, horseshoe pits, a basketball court, a splash pad, 4 covered picnic facilities, and an outdoor fitness station. If that's not enough to get your interest then how about a Paw Park with 3 separate fenced in areas for all size of dogs. 5 plus miles of trails and of course, the historic 1876 Whipple Iron Truss Bridge. The Pavilion Center, in the lower park, (435 Whipple Lane, Avon) is where the office is. The Pavilion Center is surrounded by green space, a wooded tree line, and a pond off the back covered patio. This beautiful building has exposed knotty pine beams, high peak ceilings, lot of natural light and a modern alternative to a park-like setting. The Pavilion can seat up to 300 guests and can be used for indoor weddings, conferences, family reunions, birthday parties and much more, Lots of activities for any ages. Washington Township Park can be a quite sanctuary or a space to be very active for all ages. Stop by this gorgeous park and find your favorite activity and don't forget the Bumper Cars.

Drunk bumper cars!

I went last night on a double date and had a great time!! I am deducting one star because the rink is smaller than it appears in event photos and because in the Facebook events for drunk bumper cars they make it sound like you have to buy tickets ahead of time and you don't. We got tickets in advance and the other couple did not and we had the exact same experience. You get a free beer and a free cookie. We forgot to get our cookies. Oops! There were four different beers and baileys but you had to buy the coffee separately for the baileys and the person in our group that got it said the coffee wasn't good. Next year, I'd love to see a spiked cider or spiked hot cocoa option since it's cold out! All in all I had a great time and would likely make the trek out to Avon to do drunk bumper cars again.

This park is the ever ready bunny of parks on the west side: It keeps on going! I pulled in the park from US 36 at McClain Road and saw the dog park on the west side and the playground on the east. I thought it would take a few minutes to see all the park had, but was I surprised. There is a nice sized parking lot on each side of the entrance, so I chose the playground side and immediately noticed trails leading off into the woods along White Lick Creek. There was also a nice playground, a story walk where kids can read a book as they move along the park, a basketball court that is transformed into an ice rink during cold spells, and shelters. By one of the shelters is a large hill that can be used for sledding. And then I saw signs that made me realize I was only on the north side of the park. So, I hopped in my car and drove around to the other end. There, I found another playground, a splash park, a community center, and an amphitheater. There was also an exercise station along one of the trails. The park has a bit of something for just about everyone. Not all the parks are paved, so they can be challenging. The dog park is basic and doesn't have any special training equipment, but there is a shelter inside the park fencing that allows the humans the rest while the dogs romp. Overall, I look forward to returning to explore more of the hiking trails. Review #725

One of the best parks I've been to here in in Avon! Splash pad, jungle gym equipment and no mulch it's tire padding . Lots of tables with shade for large parties and umbrellas with chairs next to the splash area which is wonderful! Also there is a beautiful trail that goes along the small lake and then a really nice trail where you can get off and play in the creek. It was so nice I had to let my kids play and catch small frogs and let them go.

Such a fun park. The trails are beautiful. There's a small playground and splash park for kids. There's also a large pavilion overlooking a pond that's perfect for weddings! Bark park, too. Dogs rejoice!

Nice town park

Nice park, especially considering its location. If you're into trail running or mountain biking, this park sits in a rather ravine-prone area...you'll get a workout looping up and down the trails. It also connects via a paved drive/bike path to another park with soccer fields, a pond, and a pretty cool playground. There are a few shelters and some decent charcoal grills, real bathrooms, and of course playgrounds. Lots of families there on the day we went, but the kiddos were NOT in the woods. The trails are narrow, kinda rocky and full of roots...not someplace you can go "stroller hiking". Check it out some time when you don't have the time to go to Brown County but still want to get a little muddy.

A beautiful Sunday afternoon

It can be tricky to find the splash pad as you come in its down the hill and follow a long road back.

The facility itself is relatively new (I heard some people in the gym talking about having been going there for 20 years)! The gym maintains their gym equipment. In addition, they maintain the grounds really well. Someone is always patrolling the parking lot, Splash Island and cleaning the indoor areas. They offer various classes, including fitness and summer classes for the kids!!! Some other amenities I didn't expect -- lap swimming pool (indoor and outdoor), a lazy River and full free weight squat and bench racks. All staff are incredibly helpful and this place does a nice job training. It employs all ages and they host an annual "Getting Ready"-type training in the summer that prepares the lifeguard staff before opening. They're also fairly active on Facebook and good about communicating closings/delays. A great high school or college job for students. It's worth the price too! Any commercial gym membership costs the same for residents to just be a member here!

She had brochures and everything! Yes I'm convinced they don't want US! Yes Us here! Stay Woke!

This is one of the best parks I've visited in central Indiana, and if you look at my Yelp review…read morehistory, you'll see I've visited a lot of parks! This lady knows her parks, mmmkay? Hummel Park in Plainfield is impressive for many reasons: it's huge (205 acres!), it has multiple playgrounds (like 4!), it has a splash pad, it has a baseball field and basketball courts, it has a great area to creek stomp with lots of shallow places for kids to wade, it has paved walking trails, it has a bridge, it has a amphitheater, it has clean restrooms, and a lot more that I'm forgetting. Also, it's really clean and well-taken-care-of. People with kids definitely need to visit this park. Like I said, there are four different playgrounds, so you could spend a lot of time here going from playground to another. The biggest playground area is located in the southeast part of the park. This playground includes a vintage twirly slide, but also a more modern playground structure with multiple slides, tunnels, bridges, monkey bars, poles to slide down and rope ladders to climb up. The playground is accessible to kids of all abilities, and includes a ramp entrance into the playground structure. This part of the park also has swings, including a saucer swing, as well as a separate playground for toddlers, and a big sand box. The splash pad is located in this area of the park, too. It's a great size for toddlers. I wouldn't visit this park just for the splash pad, because there are other parks in the area with bigger splash pads, but it's nice that there's one here and that it's so close to the playground. There is another playground near the performing arts center, which includes a toddler playground and a playground for bigger kids. A short walk away from this playground is a nature playground, with manufactured boulders and rope webs that kids can climb and explore. Paved trails offer an easy walk or stroll. As you meander through the park, you'll probably cross over a bridge that's suspended over White Lick Creek, which runs through the middle of this park, and it flows from the north part of the park to the south part. There are five small lakes within Hummel Park, including Blue Heron Lake. Hummel Park is also a great place to go creek stomping, because the creek bed includes many shallow areas where kids can wade in the water. I've heard that the sledding hill at Hummel Park is amazing, so I'll have to visit in the winter with my kids.

Most of the folks I encounter are friendly and polite with a lot of dog walkers, runners and bikers. Each of the trails intersect with another trail making it easy to explore Plainfield or stay away from the congestion of the world. If you enjoy spending time in nature, you'll enjoy Vandalia Trail. Spend a few hours exploring all the trails to find your favorite route throughout Plainfield. Vandalia Trail replaced the old Vandalia railroad line. As a child my husband played on and around the Vandalia tracks and I love hearing his childhood memories. Most of the 5 trails have points of interest along the way that can distract you. Vandalia Trail has a great bridge at the intersection of White Lick Trail close to the baseball diamonds at Franklin Park. Just across the bridge is a shaded seating area which is great to meet up with friends and a map of the trails if you get turned around. I often find myself stopping to watch a ballgame at Franklin Park on my way to White Lick Trail. The almost 5 mile trail is a comfortable walk, jog or ride with a few hilly areas. The N. East Street and Aquatic Center hill is probably the steepest but still manageable for most. Much of the trail is shaded with sunlight streaming through the trees and I find very peaceful. You will encounter a few road crossings or under passes, and even though well marked stay vigilante. Vandalia Trail connects with White Lick Trail which takes you to Main St., a.ka. Washington St. or US 40, Al's Doughnuts, Oasis Diner, or Dairy Queen if you're looking for a quick snack or meal. From here continue on to Friendship Park and Hummel Park. Both are beautiful parks and each have their own points of interest worth exploring.
