two plates of food on a table
    Mirella K.

Y'all know I'm a sucker for Greek food, and this place had one of the BEST Greek food I've ever had. Located in Lincolnwood, Backyard Grill is a mid size counter-service food place with parking on all sides of the restaurant. It's very easily accessible and there were a ton of spots available (we came here on a Tuesday around 11:30am). I got the chicken skewer dinner (2 chicken skewers, Greek potatoes, rice, vegetables, and pita with tzatziki sauce), a side dinner salad but added feta and olives to it, and then my sister got their cold cut salad (blend of chopped crispy iceberg & romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, red & green peppers, red onion, egg, turkey, ham, salami, cheddar & Swiss cheese). It was really big! The portion sizes here are above average in my opinion and are all fairly priced. I was obsessed with my chicken skewer plate. The chicken was juicy and charbroiled perfectly, and the Greek potatoes were so lemony, herby, and soft. Their feta and Greek dressing here are A1, too! The food did not disappoint. The only reason I docked a star is because of the inside and ambiance. There was one long table in the restaurant with a bunch of papers, a laptop, flyers, newspapers, and just a bunch of random stuff on it which didn't look too good and no one could sit at. They have a lot of long tables put together and not a lot of 4-tops or 2-tops, so you may have to sit next to strangers if it's busy. The place could've been a little cleaner. Nonetheless, I would easily come here again and try other things off their large menu. The food was fantastic!!

Cheeseburger no bun and spinach pie with rice!

Food is allways great! Service was excellent with quick delivery from uber eats. Ambiance very nice!

Best skewers around! Editing this review after a catering experience. We eat here a lot. The food is always delicious so we decided to cater for a big party that we had for 60 guests. I'm writing this review so others don't experience the same we did. We ordered 6 pounds of beef and received 20 rolls. That's fine. We ordered 2 full trays of Italian sausage and meatballs for 40 people each (as described in menu). We expected 40 pieces in each tray since their menu suggests that a full tray is for 40. Don't be fooled. It's only for 20 people. We only received 20 half cut Italian sausages with 20 rolls and 20 meatballs with 20 rolls. Meaning it fed 20 people, not 40. Meatballs weren't large enough to cut in half and broke apart when I tried. We didn't have enough food. We had to go back and pay for a tray of chicken just to make sure this party we had was entirely fed. Although I hate to write this review, I wouldn't want another party to be shorted. The owner called them appetizers saying not everyone will eat "one of each" Odd because the menu does not suggest they are appetizer portions and who is he to determine what other food we had at our party and what people will eat. Also if I order food for 40 people, I expect food for 40 people. It doesn't matter what people will or will not eat. Stressful, expensive experience but lesson learned. I won't cater from here anymore. I don't like to be misled. Picture of menu, prices and what we saw is attached to the review.

The first thing that hits you when you walk in is the smell, and it is coming from the outdated carpet. It is not subtle. It lingers throughout the entire space and makes it hard to fully enjoy the experience or even have much of an appetite. Older carpet is a real issue in restaurants. Over time, it traps dust, food particles, grease from the air, moisture, and bacteria. If it is not regularly deep cleaned or replaced, that buildup starts to break down and creates a heavy, musty odor. It does not stay contained in the carpet either, it rises into the air and essentially fills the entire space. The smell is so strong that it takes away from what would otherwise be a really good dining experience. Updating or properly maintaining the carpet would make an immediate and noticeable difference.

The main dining room has a view of the kitchen, and the second dining room is adjacent to the bar. I recommend the bar, as I am not a fan of open kitchens and if you are lucky you can get a table against the windows, secluded from the hubbub. It is a loud, energetic space. They have a solid cocktail program, particularly their riff on a Black Manhattan with bourbon and Demerara - a refugee from an Old Fashioned. I recommend swapping out bourbon for rye and holding the Demerara - its an excellent drink. A good collection of Italian and American wines. We ordered the Lemelson, a light bodied Pinot from Willamette Valley. It paired well with the lobster ravioli special and roast chicken. For food, we ordered the aforementioned entrees, and started with the meatballs and the beet salad. The meatballs were superb, flavorful and juicy. The beet salad was delicious, as were the entrees. Just a note, they have a very heavy hand with the sauces. The lobster ravioli came with a cognac cream sauce that painted the plate. It had much more tomato than I was led to believe but the dish was still very good. Kelly had the red wine reduction on the side for her chicken, and it was a veritable bowl of soup! The mushrooms are actually in the sauce, and it has a strong bitter flavor - I liked it but it was not Kelly's favorite. Still, a very good dish. We went light for dessert and had a scoop of gelato and a scoop of sorbet. They were both excellent. Service is friendly, the tables have plenty of space between them and the restrooms are accessible. No valet, but a free city lot is a short block away and street parking is available. Definitely worth a trip from the city.

Spacious and elegant, the bar area seemed even larger than the dining room, though not many people were there for Happy Hour (please add more options to Happy Hour). We split a charcuterie plate (not exciting) and some pinsas (flatbread pizzas), one a margherita style and the other a pesto flavor (our favorite). We basically met to have some drinks and catch up but I would have welcomed a few more choices. The staff was very attentive and friendly and even sent out some complimentary bruschetta. There is plentiful free parking. It's great to have another restaurant in this area of downtown Skokie. Though I didn't have dinner, my friends recommend it!

The store is brightly lit and clean (almost sterile feeling) when you walk in, with plenty of tables for dine-in eating. There is a counter to order with menus on the wall. The menu is simple and straight forward, you pretty much have burger, chicken sandwich, or wings. They also have a boba menu with many flavors and they have a soft serve ice cream machine! My partner and I had stopped in for a late lunch/early dinner and we dined in. The gentleman who took our order was very kind and as it was my first time in, answered all my questions about the menu as I ordered. I got a chicken sandwich (but without whatever their signature spicy ... addition? topping? seasoning? is) and a strawberry boba. My partner got a ghost burger, loaded fries, and a pina colada boba. We grabbed a table to wait and the boba came out first. These are super delicious, I've never ordered a boba anywhere else and had it come out like these, but they are like blended and creamy and also some of the best "popping" or "tapioca" additions/mix ins that I've ever had. I went back the next day to get another strawberry boba it was so delicious. The food here is over the top good. The sandwiches and fries come out loaded and messy and in huge portions. The chicken sandwich is so moist and tender, they are definitely frying chicken right here. The house sauce is tasty, flavorful and not too spicy. Neither of us were able to finish our orders here (you really get your money's worth!) but we left stuffed to the brim. I'm so happy this spot is within walking distance for me, I can treat myself to their delicious boba any time, and we will definitely be back for more sandwiches. Thank you, Sizzle!
